Not really worth it IMO. You can get a MacBook Air and a decent ASUS gaming laptop together for the same price as a razer. And yeah the razers don’t seem to hold up too well over the years unless you wanna fork over an extra $300 for insurance.

After all the research I've done and videos I've watched I narrowed it down to two laptops for both content creating and gaming. The Lenovo Legion 7 which I had pre-ordered in April, but due to COVID it's been delayed until July they say... who knows if it'll be further than that. But the Legion 7 is a 15" under 5lbs thin and light gaming laptop and the particular spec model I got was the i7, RTX 2070, 1TB SSD, Gysnc display, NVIDIA Advanced Optimus, and 32GB RAM...... All of that can be had for $1699 on B&H, that's insane!!! But, I wanted a laptop NOW. So I canceled my pre-order and got a 2020 Razer Blade Base Model which I like better than the Advanced. First it comes with an open M.2 slot, so for the spec'd model I have Mercury White (which I love) i7, RTX 2070, 16GB RAM, 512 SSD, and OLED display... I was able to upgrade that to 1.5TBs of storage and 32GB of RAM. But when all is said and done it was $1K more than the Lenovo Legion 7. I will say though, this Razer Blade 15 rips through gaming and content creating no problem but the down sides are battery life is a joke, 60Hz for OLED which I am OK with because the display is beautiful and I hate anything under 400 nits which is what most gaming laptops are except the Lenovo Legion 7 500 nits!... I like a nice bright beautiful display, also, the keyboard isn't as nice to type on. The remedy to the downsides is that I can set it up on a laptop dock and hook it up to my high refresh rate monitor, and nice keyboard and mouse. But that's if I am mobile, like at the in-laws house or work however, annoying because I have to bring the peripherals with me, but it's irrelevant at the house because I do have a beefy custom water cooled desktop. I just can't do the Dell or MacBooks, need a stronger GPU.
Nice write-up. Don’t forget, buying a Used laptop has it’s benefits. You can get the 13” Razer Blade Stealth with an MX150 for around 1k. Granted you’re looking at MBP specs, but the MX150 is worlds above Integrated Graphics. It depends how important portability is to you. Personally, I’d go for that one.
That USB Type C charging makes all the difference , as you can charge it with a PD power bank , and if you travel a lot it can be useful . With a 50$ power bank you can easily fully charge it . And as the batteries get better and better each year , for me this is a must on any laptop that I would consider buying .
Is there an edition of the 2020 stealth 13” with the green snake logo on the back? Everything I’ve seen is just the black snake, and I enjoy the green one.
They removed the sata port and put in another NVMe drive. Same battery size however. I just got the 2019 base model for a great price and the second drive was empty. Added my own sata SSD. Cheaper than an NVMe drive, and enough for my needs. But the 2020 base still has two bays
if only the base model has a much better, symmetrical positioning of its' 2nd M.2 bay they could've added the same, if not bigger, battery capacity as the advanced model. It has the potential to be the most popular Razer Blade.
One real bummer besides price... Many Razer Blade users have complaint about their Razer power adapters become suddenly spoiled out of no reason, and buying one online is extremely expensive, and continuously out of stock. Does this ever happen on any other mainstream laptop manufacturers?
Thanks for the lovely comparison, Matthew. Pray tell, will you be reviewing the refreshed HP Spectre 15? If so, I'd like to make a request: please review the 10750H hexachore model with the GTX 1650Ti and the 340 nits display. Went with 2020 Razer Blade 15 Base and I couldn't be happier. Beastly 6 Core i7 and the 1660Ti which so far has totally exceeded my expectations. Thermals are actually quite good even before -125mv undervolt although being an aluminum chassis, the body gets very hot. Matthew, Could you tell me that whether the base model is compatible with eGpu or not? And one more question is that is having thunderbolt port enough to say "you can use eGpu without any hesitation"?

Hey Matthew, would you recommend the advanced model with 9th gen 2080maxq or the 10th gen 2070super? Will the two extra cores give that much of a performance difference in productivity tasks such as development and multitasking?
Because ext monitor must use USB-C, is there a FPS and/or refresh rate reduction if using an external monitor (which is capable of displaying same res & refresh rate)?
Can both usb-c ports on the adv model be used to charge the laptop simultaneously, and if so could this be theoretically at a rate of up to 100W per port (or 200W total)?

Hey Matthew, can you make a video talking about the uses of a Thunderbolt 3 connection. I have a razer blade 15 with rtx 2070 (2019 edition). I am thinking on buying a monitor but what’s the thunderbolt going to do with my monitor, is there a significant advantage ?
Hey Matt - Why would you say that 6core higher clock speeds equal more gaming performance (by 5-10 frames) than the 8core slower clock cpu and then in your gaming comparison the 8core lower clock speed CPU trounces the 6core higher clock (and this is within 10seconds of either claim)........
Hi Mathew been looking to see this review but regarding RAM speed difference in Razer website configuration page, Base model RAM speed is highet?!! Can you check and see
Omg...thank you for explaining this. I just bought an advanced model and am planning to return it due to poor performance. The 8 core performs worse than my laptops with 6 cores. The fans never get loud. I can only get 2300 on Cinebench R20. Did you do do something to get 2862? I tried adjusting things in Synapse but didn’t help.
Hi Matthew, what is your opinion on getting the advanced 2019 model? I know I want to get the RTX 2070 Max-q, and the advanced model from 2019 that has the 2070 GPU is about the same as getting a 2020 base model.
Another great review. Matthew you dont want it to drive like a Lambo. That means you are limited to weekend use only and for very limited milage as well. We want it to drive like a Porsche....punish as hard as you can and it will still be around for at least 50 years...!!
It doesn't matter what brand of laptop or computer you choose, value is subjective. Doesn't matter if you pick AMD or Intel, Razer or Asus we are being driven to war and we shall stay collective as PC users and shit on consoles.
The problem how ever you spec your pc you can't run exclusives on it. The main thing is the console dose not matter its the experience that the console provides and the games with it. That is why most Nintendo consoles are either major hits or flops. Like tell me a PC which is portable enough and can run windows which is like a Nintendo Switch none. Also as a PC user you could shit on console as the mainly the provide additional functionality unlike consoles. But a console is specifically built to mainly run games. As a PC gamer my question is can you game while taking a walk. Also the absolute truth is unless you buy used you will newer be able to spec the PC to beat a console.(because a lot of consoles when bought actually make a loss to the manufactruer though this is not true with current gen its true with past gen consoles) Not to mention most PC's are bigger than a console. Don't get me wrong but a PC has its huge share of advantages. But having your goal to only shit on console users is wrong and dumb.
@@BornArcher8 Mate its a joke, i know consoles are good and i said what i said because im tired of people critizing others over what hardware they have instead of acknowledging the things they have in common, they use pcs to game. Also PC gamers for some reason dislike people who game on consoles so i used that to bring everyone together.
consoles just cheaper... used it a a beachmark.. an wait for pc to catch up.. it save money more that way.. your time will get less and less so less time to play some game.. i had alot of game i can never find time to finsih..

Woah, something is up with the battery there, my 2019 2080 240hrz is able to get over 6 hours easily
i thought that was off - shows pic of bigger battery and than shows it only lasts 10 minutes longer - lol.
I dont know why he's getting such poor rates. my 2020 advanced gets me 8h on battery easily
Christopher Yap what work load do you guys put these machines through?
@@swiftylefty7965 Well if youre playing games its obviously only going to last a few hours, but f you put it on battery saver mode it can easily last a whole day writing up stuff and general lightwork light watching media
Christopher Yap ya, what sort of stuff do you do? I’m tempted to get the 2070 super over the 2070 oled but if battery is terrible then I’ll have to pass
Would getting this laptop make sense for a college student who would also like to have the gaming option? Are there any drawbacks for when you are using it for schoolwork or anything like that?
Matthew, Could you tell me that whether the base model is compatible with eGpu or not? And one more question is that is having thunderbolt port enough to say "you can use eGpu without any hesitation"?
If you hooked both up to an eGPU with a 2080 Super (or ti), would your general recommendation of the base model stay the same or would the extra cores of the Advanced make it your recommendation?
Can I edit 4k Video on the Base model with the Intel i7 10gen and an rtx 2060?
absolutely! It will run great
@@MatthewMoniz thanks for answering (:
Stay healthy and safe
can i add a second hard drive on all razer blades ( not the advanced ) 2020? More specifically i would like to have 2TB storage, so i wonder if i need to replace the original drive or i can simply add an extra one. Thank You
henrique matias I know this is late but you can add a second one I added a 1TB 960 Pro to mine and I have the Base model
Hey Matthew, would you recommend the advanced model with 9th gen 2080maxq or the 10th gen 2070super? Will the two extra cores give that much of a performance difference in productivity tasks such as development and multitasking?
(Despite the 2y.o comennt) I recomend 2020 model be cause that extra gpu power and other new futures are worth it
Because ext monitor must use USB-C, is there a FPS and/or refresh rate reduction if using an external monitor (which is capable of displaying same res & refresh rate)?
M new to laptops however just wanted to know that will it be a bad idea if I get the base model for animations and video editing?
I'm bout to get me one of those about a decade from now
Can both usb-c ports on the adv model be used to charge the laptop simultaneously, and if so could this be theoretically at a rate of up to 100W per port (or 200W total)?
Hey! Would you say this is a great computer for video editing? Or should I go with Mac? getting crazy with this decision.
dude im in the same boat you ever pic one to go with? I am a huge mac fan but i have noticed all my macs have had some problems running adobe premier
Which razer blade advanced would be best for 3d modeling and rendering and design? Not really for games but I'm considering the 2080 super edition
Base model. 4k 2070 maxQ. Expandeable to 32GB RAM, 2nd SSD slot. Thunderbolt, Ethernet. Solid photo capture station. Finger on the trigger. I like what I see.
I have one question. My current laptop is Alienware 15r3 and I want to switch to something new. I don't play games so much like before, but still can use Borderlands 3 to chill out and need something slim, not so heavy like Alienware. I was thinking about Macbook but no games after and now stucked on Razer. It's also alluminium right? And they have this two versions but without 2060 or 70 chips?
Does razer release a refreshed bios? I see somebody get around 3600 scores in Cinebench R20. That is a big difference.
Hello Matthew , does the base model can run for the new games on ps5 or xbox s x or the advance model is better for the future games ?
I can't decide between the razer blade 15 and the gigabyte aero (more games for me, quieter and less warm) the problem is that 4k tempts me a lot. Which one should I take? please
Not really since you have the HDMI port. Probably no reason to use the TB3 port for a monitor unless you want a third one.
Im glad that I got the base model 😁😁should arrive within this week
Matt should I get the S20 (standard exynos version) or the iPhone 11 non pro? It’s a really hard decision for me..
Can you check and see
can u please compare the advanced model with the msi gs66
Do both have a fingerprint reader? Also I don't see why the advanced is almost double the price, for my use atleast.
have you ever edited 8k content with any of theses?
also what portable batteries can charge on the go ? can any usb power pack work ?
1:53 Compared to advanced model , base model has at least a 2.5 inch Sata III Drive Slot.
Nice idea to put them in the same video Bruv!
Glad you think so!
1:20 Mathew, you are an absolute mad man
Thank you Matt being looking for what the response time was for the advanced model.
Glad to help
At this point I still don't know. I was going to pick up the advance model but what configuration? Is there a better 2020 gaming laptop out there?
My 2020 advance is actully giving me pretty good scores and battery life. I'm enjoying it!
I got 3420 on mine. How are your scores like that?
Hi Matthew, what is your opinion on getting the advanced 2019 model? I know I want to get the RTX 2070 Max-q, and the advanced model from 2019 that has the 2070 GPU is about the same as getting a 2020 base model.
I am buying the 2020 version as 2019 has many bad reviews. I hope razer fixed it in 2020s
is the charging
with type c also works with the 2019 advanced model?
Another great review. Matthew you dont want it to drive like a Lambo. That means you are limited to weekend use only and for very limited milage as well. We want it to drive like a Porsche....punish as hard as you can and it will still be around for at least 50 years...!!
Hey man ,when will you post the review of the dell g3 2020 model
Not sure if ever! Getting Dell laptops has always been a bit tough
@@MatthewMoniz thanks for the reply but I am thinking of buying that model so I needed suggestions.
It doesn't matter what brand of laptop or computer you choose, value is subjective. Doesn't matter if you pick AMD or Intel, Razer or Asus we are being driven to war and we shall stay collective as PC users and shit on consoles.
PlayStation, pc and Nintendo all have their benefits. Pc, PlayStation and Nintendo master race. Xbox sucks. Mobile is peasantry.
Chlorify What about multi platform gamers? Do pc fanboys hate them too?
consoles just cheaper... used it a a beachmark.. an wait for pc to catch up.. it save money more that way.. your time will get less and less so less time to play some game.. i had alot of game i can never find time to finsih..
my razor blade 15 advanced easily climbs to 90c when gaming. is this normal?
Will you be reviewing the asus rog duo 15? It really stood out from other competing laptops:)
Ill see if I can grab one!
I've been eyeing this one too!
I was eyeing that one too
You do such an amazing job explaining and reviewing this laptop. Really great voice as well.
I want this laptop and waited for the 3080 to arrive. Now it's not really available, so I find myself looking some more and found the 2020 advance with 4k oled for 2100€ vs 3700€ for the 3080 one.
Would you spend the extra 1600 for the 3080 and the new intel chip vs. the 2020 advanced one?
i dont think the battery test was truly apples to apples, set the refresh rate of the advanced to 144Hz then tell us the result
Is it possible to undervolt both Razers? I've reading this patch by Intel about disabling that feature due to plundervolt.
Can’t undervolt 10th gen unfortunately
I just wish I could order the RTX Super Max Q 2080 OLED model in Mercury White. Why won't Razer offer the silver paint option for every trim? Don't they wan't to take everyone's money?
Mat! Will you review the Asus ROG S15? Really think that laptop is a contender for gaming laptop of the year
If i can get my hands on it definitely!
I was going to get that but its sold out everywhere next time they will be in stock is in July August cant wait that long so I ended up getting the razer blade advanced model off Amazon with eligible prime
Got the 2080 super max Q with 300HZ screen
All the laptops I originally wanted were all sold out so I ended up getting this one best 3,266$ I ever spent after taxes
@@kyokushin1289 hey man. What do you think of your new machine? I bought a similar product. And am interested in hearing others opinions.
g14 is better
I wish they made the snake symbol on the lid black and change the up/down arrow keys back to a regular size.
Gaming is not a big concern for me since I have a desktop for that, but my macbook pro 2012 finally gave out on me, so i'm looking for a new laptop, should I go for a macbook pro 13", razer stealth or razer blade 15? I am and engineer so I do need a powerful computer for some of the programs I have to run.
Is the advanced touch screen?
Did you notice the fan bearings rattle when the fans starts to spin?
Can you make a video comparing the GS66 10-SE and Razer blade 15 base model (GS66 vs Razer Blade 15 Base Model)
Edit: Razer Blade 15 Base Model with RTX 2060
Is the razor blade base model good for making music on FL studio 20
looking to buy the advanced model, in 2023. Did Razer fix the throttling issue? Are they running hotter now?
