    Both Alienware and Razer have really improved their laptops over the years. I did get the X15 r1 last year... At the time I really considered the Razer Blade 15 (and 14 for a second)....
    There is just something about Razer which makes them cool haha.... In a weird way, Razer Blade 17 is probably closer with Alienware x15 series....

    Live these comparison videos. I recently got my new x15 r2, wonder if there’s gonna be any deep dive for that or is there any settings I should change to improve my performance in games, I have the max spec one (i9+3080ti), thanks

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  Год назад +3

      most of the x17 deep dive also relates to the x15, but in a nut shell: lift the rear end of the laptop up a little to improve airflow. I use the Fn+F1 performance mode when gaming. As you have the i9 you can tweak it in either throttle stop or intel XTU and lastly give the 3080 a little overclock in MSI afterburner :)

    2:16 I see your preference for side ports for ease of connectivity. I think competitive FPS gamers with large mousepads actually would prefer the Alienware’s layout, lacking ports on the right side where cables could creep into mousepad real estate. I do agree it gives a “cleaner” look too, but that’s an aside for competitive fps gamers.

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  Год назад +4

      I do totally agree with you and this is totally personal preference. I just happen to be someone who is alway plugging devices in and out and that makes it difficult at the rear of the laptop. Have you tried in the balanced mode where you can adjust fans on the razer, to override wattages with the lock mode on throttlestop TPL? I was able to override my Lenovo this way so it never ever drops under 115 watts on CPU now no matter what LOL. I noticed before when I was playing Spider Man that the cpu dropped to 3.7ghz on the Lenovo, so I loaded up throttlestop and did the tweak and it stayed at 4.3 all the way, even though the temps was in high 80's at all times during gameplay as that game is a BEAST. This is the game that has made me think it might be worth waiting for the 4080 laptop series next year, as with the 140w 3070 and all cores at 4.3ghz, the Lenovo struggles to play this at 60 FPS with Ray tracing and DLSS at quality with ultra settings. I have settled on native res of 2560x1600, DLSS Balanced, and RT high. Rt adds so much to this game that it's a must IMO. But if I disable it, I can have ultra everything and 100 FPS no problems. But I am thinking even a 3080ti laptop will be pushed to the limit so maybe worth waiting. We have finally seen the limits of laptop GPUs with Cyberpunk/Ultra/RT on and Spider Man/Ultra/RT on, believe me. Well if you want to play at anything higher than 1080P that is. But even at 1080P this game will utilise 100% of the 3070 no problems LOL.

I just tried it with my 11800H model since the CPU re locked itself (I have been fighting with support for 2 months, the unlocked CPU just magically locked 2 months back, after being unlocked for 7 months). And sadly in the one mode you can adjust fans in, the throttlestop overrides do not work, I took every step including locking out the razer defaults. They are computer fascists LOL.
      There is no point doing it in the high performance mode even if it works, as that mode has slow fans and hits 100c as is, so the power drop is welcome there.

      @@MashITTech I agree. Thicker looks better too. I want to be a “fan boy” of Alienware, maybe it’s nostalgia, but there is too many things they don’t do.
      For starters the laptop lids should have the series letter not a number. The speakers should have little tron rgb that lights up your desk, the ports need some lighting. Either they need a better design team or the bosses need to let the engineers do their thing. I read a comment from a Alienware engineer about the issues from upper management. Don’t even get me started on their desktops and lack of just stupid accessories they should offer.

    So in the end I decided to stay with Alienware brand since I have nice line of credit with them. Now while I could go for and afford all top specs, I am unsure which configuration truly is worth it. I read a lot about i9 not really getting value same with the 3080ti. I dont know how true this really is but thats like a 1k difference almost if its better to go with i7 and 3070ti. So if the gain is so small then saving 1k def a lot better. So I am debating between x15 r2 qhd with some combination of i7/i9 and 3070ti/3080ti or x17 r2 4k with some combination of i7/i9 and 3070ti/3080ti and prolly 2tb storage and 32gb ram on either. I primarily will hook up the laptop to my 4k monitor (eventually may switch to an ultrawide but a 4k for now). I will use the monitor screen heavily as a second monitor for streams, movies, etc. Occasionally going on the go with it and being my primary screen on travel. A lot of time I would auto jump to top specs for longevity but with what I am reading I am lost on what configuration I should go for. You have played with both and did some benchmark testing and stuff so figured you would be able to give good advice on this.

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  Год назад +1

      I have said it a lot before but the i9 is a complete waste of money on both the x15 or x17, the chassis van only just cope with the i7 so the i9 needs much better thermal solution to reach its potential. Same goes for the 3080ti, you are paying a massive uncharge for just 5-10% better performance. The only reason to take the 3080ti is if you need the extra vram (16gb over 8gb) for a particular productive workload

In comparison to other brands, Alienware even flipped the mother board dividing the motherboard and keyboard by the cooling chambers. Such a thoughtful fix to make the comfort for the gamer a priority. Makes me happy to know that they either listen to the consumer or they are heavy gamers themselves that understand what is best. Even the M series only sacrifices a bit of thickness and build quality but still maintains overall performance. Alienware's customer service has fallen far behind recently. Dell has been trying to get a technician out to repair my Alienware x15 R2 for over 2 months now. I live in chicago so there should not be any geographical barriers. Dell finally gave up and sent me a refurbished unit to replace my defective unit. The refurbished unit had the soft touch finish blistering and bubbling on the keyboard deck, the finish was worn off, and there were what appeared to be bread crumbs in the keyboard.
    This is my 3rd alienware and computer and probably my last one. Previously, Dell's customer service was second to none. They overnighted a box to me to send the computer in and it was back working flawlessly in just a few business days. I even requested that solution in my many interactions with Dell's tech support recently and they said that this was not an option anymore.
    I think the best way to go is to find a 3rd party insurance company and steer clear from Dell entirely until they get their tech support situation sorted out.

    Too long;didn’t read: Razer is good for both work *and* heavy gaming on top. Alienware is a good choice mainly for gaming.
    Razer is good for both work/study and casual to heavy gaming, due to its size/portability and better camera mic quality. Has a bigger track pad, but poorer thermal cooling compared to Alienware. It’s very good for people on the go all the time.
    Alienware is good specifically for gaming. I wouldn’t say it’s the best for work as the camera is okay quality, and trackpad is albeit a bit small. Poorer portability compared to Razer, and likely difficult to fit in most backpacks. Although Alien was my first choice when I wanted a gaming laptop, because I heard that it cools well. Although I have heard the quality of the cooling might drop depending on what games you’re playing.
    I might use Razer and willing to sacrifice the gaming quality over portability and good camera quality, because I’m not a heavy gamer, and on top of that modern games are pretty expensive, I’d probably only be playing Roblox, Sims 4 (free now), and some blender maybe. As a previous early 2015 MacBook Air user, this is an insane upgrade. But I wouldn’t recommend Razer for everyone, solely because not everyone has the same needs as me.
    If you’re looking solely to game, probably the Alien is much better choice for you.

      @@MashITTech Nice! The thing I like about the Legion series the most is the keyboard design tbh. No other laptop can compare imo.

      Lenovo have already listed the mini led for the new legion but it’s not available to buy yet. Fingers crossed soon

    Razer Razer Razer a thousand times over. The only system that can compete with top performers like Apple and possibly out perform them in the future. I was a Mac user for years until switching to Razer.

    Was able to get the Alienware x15 r2 with 3070ti , 1tb ssd for $1600 from Best Buy by getting the open box (excellent condition)! Some issues the first day but dell support was awesome and fixed it remotely. Plus can’t beat getting a $2600 laptop for $1600!

      Was looking at an open box, but went with new for right around $2100. Week after Xmas, price shot up to $2600. Still cheaper than thru Dell.
