    When Colin cried I cried! 46:08.
    "You treated me, like you're my newest friend, and you treated me like you were my oldest friend when people out there I have known forever just abandoned me" :'(
    Always respected Colins reviews and guides on video games from IGN and have found his perspective and topics on KF really interesting and thought-provoking. Sending love Colin and thanks Rubin for this.

    The more I hear from Colin, the more I'm convinced that he is far too intelligent for Kinda Funny. He brought a level of respect and dignity to video games that the rest of the crew can't match. I think in the near future that we'll look back and realize that Kinda Funny was holding him back after seeing what he does next. Good luck, Colin! I wish you well and support you.

    45:55 - The most real, most poignant moment I have ever seen on the Rubin report. I was washing dishes as I was listening to that and without even looking at the screen, it brought tears to my eyes (I was also yelling at the dishes to "HUG IT OUT FOR THE LOVE OF JESUS!" (my wife was slightly alarmed, I assume the hug / tissues happened in the break while both of you and the audience recomposed themselves). It was also a confirmation of the completely predictable and utter decency of David (and his husband) as men, the world needs more people like you. The end of the interview was incredible. I also (and I am sure I am not alone in this) now follow Colin and cant wait to see what comes next for him.

    So after Greg saying the tweet had nothing to do with Colin leaving, Colin just confirmed it was indeed the catalyst/straw that broke the camels back that made him quit. If he hadn't written the tweet he'd still be at kinda funny; as we all knew.

    • @Kyt2024
      @Kyt2024 7 лет назад +22

      I don't think it's that cut and dry. It's pretty clear, and Colin even talks about it in this very video, that he just hasn't been happy with doing gaming media. He wants for something else. This was coming regardless; maybe somewhat spread up by the timing, but that doesn't seem of any major consequence. Clearly even before the tweet other opportunities were arising for Colin.

    • @ThePhilipoconnor
      @ThePhilipoconnor 7 лет назад +8

      KNorth2 Indeed, I didn't mean that it was the only reason for him quitting, nor that his departure wasn't inevitable, but that the tweet, as I said, was the catalyst that made him leave now.
      Greg however, insisted that the tweet had NOTHING to do with his departure from kinda funny. He wasn't being completely honest.
      Not to mention that Colin said they have had significant disagreements behind the scenes, meaning of course in the past but I believe he's also talking about recent events.

      Yeah I feel that for sure. Greg's reply post about Colin's tweet felt like pressure from his current GF to say something as she must have his balls in a vice and was like "You better stand up for me! I'm so offended" . Some of the shit Greg has said in the past and then they fling him under the bus over this jokey tweet? Thats just how I feel about it all anyway but I'm probably wrong.

    • @robt5017
      @robt5017 7 лет назад +41

      Hard to know why Greg replied the way he did, but the main problem I have with it was how... corporate it was, for lack of a better word. The way the response was worded and how Greg handled it was done in a way you'd expect from a large corporation, not a small, independent gaming company.
      Now, I know that Colin allegedly gave his blessing for Greg to release the statement, but in my opinion, it could have simply be handled by releasing a short statement like this:
      "Look, everyone. Colin's tweet was made on his personal Twitter account and It doesn't reflect the viewpoints of Kinda Funny as a whole. Also, it was a joke. You may not like it or agree with it (we certainly don't), and that's fine, but we know Colin personally, not just professionally or through the Internet, and there was absolutely no malice or sexism behind his joke. To say or think otherwise is wrong."
      In that short paragraph, they would have addressed the "issue", declared their stance on the matter, and still defended Colin's character. Instead, their response simply made things worse.

    • @dezaf6998
      @dezaf6998 7 лет назад +6

      Thats the thing. Kinda funny is a business and one that is looking to grow. Colin himself said he made some good money from there. And then you also have to realize we live in this very sensitive world where outrage culture is the popular culture unfortunately. Rmmbr the character assassination that happened to Colin after his tweet by a "respectable" site, well what headlines would they come up with if Kinda Funny publically backed Colin when they are a company still trying to grow. I know there should be some moral highground and what not but this was potentially putting the business at risk, so from a business point of view Greg had to release the post he did and Colin understood that. He literally editted Greg's reply and added in parts to make Greg's point stronger, before it was posted

    Seeing Colin cry was one of the most upsetting things I've seen for a very long time. All of this happening to a genuine, decent and honest human being. All for the sake of a completely harmless joke that people have gone out of their way to find offensive. Destroying a mans career that he has built. Over 4 words. Absolutely disgusting how he has been treated.
    Karma always wins. And I don't see Kinda Funny being around for much longer or at the very least be as successful as they have been. We got your back Colin!

    As far as his departure goes...It must have been easy to resign after Greg "apologized" for the tweet. Their existence really depends on continuing to suck the Social Justice tit that is the foundation of the San Fransisco game journalism scene. In the long run I think they killed the golden goose. Alienating half your audience never ends well.

      Michael Crosby you are entirely missing the point. Let's say you tweeted that exact thing... What do you think would have happened? Do you honestly believe the world would react the same way to that tweet if it wasn't from a big name in the industry? And additionally do you think "media outlets" would misconstrue your tweet the point of calling you a racist even when there is no mention of race in the tweet? Clearly Colin was character assassinated and while you are allowed to disagree with his original tweet, my comment was referring to the escalation from that tweet to the racist headline. So please read carefully next time. Good day.

      Michael Crosby turning around a magnifying glass would result in the exact same results. You see, magnifying glasses consist of a convex lens suspended in a frame attached to a handle. No matter what side you look through a convex lens, no matter how much you turn it around, the results will be the same.
      Maybe you want him to put a mirror behind the magnifying glass? Why does there even need to be a magnifying glass? Maybe JUST a mirror, skip the magnifying glass.

      Albert Ibarra That seems a little extreme. Greg is totally free to disagree over Colin's tweet, business aside, and Greg expressed his opinion very respectfully. Colin just said on this show that he was not asked to leave KF, nor was he fired. Granted, maybe Greg and the other KF guys could have defended Colin more from the getgo... but I don't want to read into the situation and draw unfair conclusions. Plus, you have to remember that KF went to PAX East right after all the drama, so it makes sense that everything played out like it did. It's regrettable and I'm sad to see Colin go, but I can't reasonably fault any of the KF guys.

In the real world, he has to block you or else youre gonna constantly pester his feed with stupid posts until he debates you. Why do you care if Colin has a different opinion than you anyway?

      What was your tweet at him? You can explain your intention behind it as honorable and thoroughly as you like but until you actually tell us what that tweet was we only have your word that it was a tweet that deserved a response.
      He has thousands of tweets directed at him daily, are you such a narcissist that you think you deserve special attention from what you seem to think is the tweet of the decade?

    • @gilgamesh5796
      @gilgamesh5796 7 лет назад +1

      Michael Jackson Im not calling you specifically, and idiot. I am however, saying that tweeting at a stranger and expecting them to take their time to indulge you is an idiotic idea. And most people that do this kind of thing do tend to be idiots. But youre very articulate, Im sure youre not an idiot. But as a non-idiot, you should understand why a kinda-famous person would refuse to waste time debating a stranger on twitter, and why they would block said stranger when he continued to insist. It might have been severe in your case, but, as a non-idiot, you should understand why blocking these aggressive "challengers" early (before they start angry spamming) is a perfectly reasonal preemptive measure. Why do you care so much that Colin hears your opinion? You might win that debate, he did generalize, but who the fuck cares?
      Im also pretty sure that when Colin said "if anyone besmirches you in front of me...", he meant in person. He is not gonna go fight every internet troll that hates on Rubin (not calling you a troll).

    • @RandomCarrot2806
      @RandomCarrot2806 7 лет назад

      Which parts of my post did you find nonsensical, incoherent or "simply fabricated"? To me you are going way overboard of being blocked on twitter and seem to be taking personal offense at it. That fits the description of crazy to me.
      He could have provided some feeble attempt at 'wit' or 'comedy' (both
      of which he's not known for, hence the departure for his oh-so funny
      comment about women...hah..hahah...you're fired lol.)
      I took this as a reference to the original joke Colin made that started this whole mess. I thought the "hah...hahah...you're fired lol." was you thinking that the offices were empty because the women were fired, not because they were protesting. I guess I interpreted that wrong but by your own admission you don't proof read so maybe you could make what you were trying to say clearer?
      He didn't "clearly get this wrong" as you put it as plenty of people are agreeing with him. Just because you disagree with it doesn't mean it's wrong. The tweet you sent him was hostile and aggressive so of course he blocked you, just like you have been in this entire comment chain. Do you honestly think your tweet was worth responding to, especially when it's coming from a stranger during a time where thousands of people are tweeting at him?
      Since you seem to have missed it. The faculty that were not only part of the protest and riots, they were part of organizing it. And whether or not you like it the faculty does represent the college. In the statement released by the college they didn't even admit that part of their student body and faculty had organized and taken part in it. I don't have to prove anything about the numbers, enough of the 1500 people there joined in with the riots and destruction to shut down that part of the city for the entire night and stopping the event and everyone else there just stood by and did nothing. And it's obviously hard to know how many of the masked people that instigated the violence there were Berkeley students but the footage shows more than just masked people destroying things.
      And do you really disagree that things haven't changed on campuses in a major way in the last 10 years? Or that they aren't rioting against meaningless things?
      One last question. What do you expect to achieve with name calling and condescension?

      I've been watching since the final 6 months of Beyond. Personally I think Colin is a smart dude who consistently annoys me with a really lousy tone/mood. In general this decision he made is disappointing. Seems like he throwing away the biggest part of his life just because he wants to be able to flame people on Twitter and rant about "liberty" in front of a camera. It's been obvious for months that he doesn't care about video games nearly as much as he used to, so the decision makes sense I suppose, but I really hope he actually tries to DO something with his platform, rather than just become a lackey of people like Rubin and Beck. Anyway -- here's hoping the discussion remains as civil as possible!

I hadn't heard of you or your work but I have been following Colin ..and to an extent Greg Miller as they grew up with me as voices in the industry and hobby I love. Delighted to now have you as one of my go to channels now. Colin - phenomenal bloke , handled this whole situation with massive self pride and dignity and you know what the funniest thing is - in a world with Donald Trump as president, that this can even become a thing is the joke! What is more a story and of real consequence is how a friendship/partnership that was both mutually fulfilling can dissolve very rapidly. Just my 2 cents -- some candid dialogue alone or together between G & C might sate a lot of the followers and people who genuinely care more about the dynamic and friendship than the content. thanks to both of you!

  • @tdesercey
    @tdesercey 7 лет назад +6

    Wait Wait. The context to this is crazy understated. Colin LOVE politics. Its blatant to see if you're a KF fan. He's been positioning to do a more political commentary show for quite some time. Also, seemingly, in KF, he would go off on political rants in the middle of their show with little to no interest from the other guys. If you didn't see him splintering away from them when the opportunity came, it's just for lack of trying. Now, let me declare my colors-- I'm a big Colin fan. KF lost a respectful voice in the industry. I'm opposite of the political spectrum of him. BUT my love of history and video games draws me to him. He's well read and has thoughtful (albeit contrarian) approaches to gaming and politics. The other week, he was gushing over being on Dave's show (for good reason), and I could tell then--he wants more than just being a commentator on video games. It's not fair to the situation to say this was strictly a drumhead trail, and he was cast out. The overreaction to his Archie Bunker-esque, "tongue firmly in cheek" tweet is ludicrous. I support him in his unapologetic position for political discourse. That being said--the gun was loaded and the hammer was pulled back. This little twitter debacle was purely just enough pressure on the trigger to set this departure in motion. God speed Colin.

    I got so fucking attacked in the kinda funny community, I am a "best friend" and I've supported kinda funny since the very beginning, I was a Beyond! listener since the beginning of that podcast and Colin was the entire reason I supported kinda funny. I always disliked Tim because of his sjw and pc leaning when he is CLEARLY a very ignorant person, he doesn't even claim to educate himself on things. He acts solely out of emotion and virtue signaling. I respect Colin for not making people take a side, but of course the people who understand what really happened will take Colin's side. As I do. It saddens me that Colin's friends turned their back on him and caved to the sjw pressure, and I surely believe kinda funny will suffer because of it. People will see the hypocrisy, people will see Tim for who he is, people will see that Greg went against his morals and his heart and turned on his best friend. RIP kinda funny, because Colin's joke was actually funny, not just kinda funny. As long as they are beholden to pc culture and sjw pressure, they will always be just "kinda" funny.

    The most distressing thing to my ears on Kinda Funny podcasts wasn't whenever there was an allusion to Colin leaving the company/not wanting to be there, it was when Colin spoke about new people that would come in and slowly replace him and keep the brand existing because it's not about them and he would fade into the background. I've always loved hearing Colin talk about games but what would get me most excited was when I saw he had a political topic for the show because it came so rarely and I would listen to his parts over and over and over again. Colin Moriarty fading into the background would be the biggest travesty for moderate, educational political discussion on the internet imaginable and I am so immensely glad to hear that he's going to be doing regular RUclips content full-time. SJWs on both sides piss me off when it comes to shit like this. I stand with Colin and the way he tweets and how he lives his life. I wish him all of the best in his new career. BEYOND!

    This is actually the first time seeing the "so-called offensive tweet". It's THAT tweet!? That one? Really!? I saw that tweet on my feed the day of and thought nothing of it. So when people are talking about an "offensive, controversial" tweet (that by the way no one would reference) I truly wondered what Colin Moriarty said that got people so riled up. To be honest, the joke was corny, cheesy and played out but NOT offensive. I wholeheartedly stand by Colin and feel disgusted by the internet and the horde of vultures who wasted no time to attack a man who chose to make a single joke.

    When Colin started to cry and thanked Dave for being there for him. I started to cry. I’ve fallowed Colin for years. I’ve never seen him like that before. I know how it feels to have all the most important people in your life completely turn on you for something just ridiculous. I felt that to the very core of my soul. Colin has been and always will be one of of my top 3 heroes in life.

    I didn't know Colin's name up until your interview with him last week but wow. Colin sounds like a ride or die kind of guy and that makes me respect him more. He's very well spoken and I can tell he has a lot of knowledge on the topics. I'm looking forward to whatever Colin is up to next and will be there for it. I thank you, Dave for giving Colin the platform to speak about it at such short notice, I can see you two being very good friends from now on.

    Not like it's something that I want (I want BOTH parties to be successful), but it's strange to think that Colin is almost unquestionably about to skyrocket into a huge star (in a number of mediums, especially if he just does his own Political/Gaming/Debate shows of his choosing via patreon)...but that KindaFunny may now be on a downhill trajectory they may not recover from.
    Who would have thought it would even be possible that Colin, all along, was the main driving force behind KindaFunny and their success. Not Greg's goofiness, Tim's good natured insight, or Nick's hilarious jokes. But Colin's passionate, funny, thought provoking banter.
    Crazy
    This moment could very well end up giving Greg nightmares for the rest of his life.

    Colin. You are the ONLY one in the games industry with the voice that you have. That's why we came here. Because of you insight and views into the gaming world. With you gone I don't see it being the same. Keep games in your rotation my man. Your voice is very needed. Don't let them win by abandoning it!
