1:27 mark: “I think about everything in a cost-benefit way…. It is not clear to me that a good world is consistent with all of those principles.” - Listen closely and these people will out themselves. Let me rephrase it for clarity. “It is not clear to me that a good world is consistent with the principles of liberty and equality.” I reckon there will always be people who believe their own judgement and intelligence makes them worthy to be the arbiters of truth and gatekeepers of freedom. Such are truly dangerous people and should never be given power.

1 - Communicate in detail the full depth of their position.
2 - Doesn't leave much room for them to hide shortcomings in their idea.
This person isn't automatically "right".... he is presenting a idea. It's HIS current best understanding..... There are many others with ideas that counter some of his points.
Debate is ONLY present when we can have long form platforms where COUNTER ideas can be put forth.
This person is not right/wrong just because they have a platform.... it's just 1 idea of many that we should all be considering so that our own perception can grow and evolve.

Question everything, even what you think is obvious. Sometimes what we think is true is actually fact which only applies in a very specific context, yet we hold it to be a universal truth. That is why we need to put everything to the test. Knowledge is forged upon the flames of experimentation and quenched upon the waters of healthy skepticism and observation. We can believe with our eyes closed. But sometimes we need to open them so that we don’t fall into the ditch (or the abyss).
      Many Blessings.

    • @TheDionysianFields
      @TheDionysianFields 10 месяцев назад

It really depends on what you mean by "obvious." If you mean that there are structural problems with our society that enable centralized forces to manipulate and/or dominate us, sure. But if you mean the Jews or the WEF (or Trump for that matter) are entities of pure evil that must be vanquished at all cost, you need Dan's message IMO. Scapegoating is a human pastime and not one of us is immune to its allure.
It's easy to get the "success is life" vibe from Tom, but he's a genuinely inquisitive guy who still has a chance. Watch his talk with Daniel Smachtenberger. Tom means well but, yes, he's going to have some tough choices ethically. We shall see.
Dan thinks he's been ordained to restructure society. That's the only red flag we need...but it doesn't mean he has nothing worthwhile to say.

    "Trick of This Reality"
    1. Consciousness is a process of uncertainty reduction through differentiation, by sorting positive and negative energies into proper spots. Hot from Cold, Good from Evil and such.
    2. This reality constantly changes. Something that gave you pleasure one day can stop giving it another day.
    3. Result = Process of differentiation here will NEVER END, because this prison is designed specifically for consciousness.
Conclusion? Do not get attached to this prison reality and do not trust anything that changes, because things that change ARE UNRELIABLE AND ALWAYS BETRAY!!! The unknown can not be defeated in reality of CHANGE, because change itself keeps giving rise to uncertainty!!!
So no, guys, truths is so elusive is because this reality changes, its not due to subjectivity.

Ariely is a master-story teller. Unfortunately he's had a substantial crisis (drama) recently with it looking like his research and subsequent book on 'dishonesty' had fabricated data. He was in a panic internally sending emails to colleagues to have his back, meanwhile publicly playing it cool. It's a massive issue in social psychology (with a massive replicability crisis). The incentives in academia are backwards and much of the 'research' is done in labs, with small amounts of students, that do not extrapolate into broader society or life, meaning the findings are largely bunk. However, because they sound 'amazing' and these academics reach rock-star level they get picked up by thousands of high tier publications. There are some very good channels on RUclips speaking about specifically with issues in social psychology and behavioral economics. Dan is not the first person to be caught up in data fabrication controversies recently. The reason much of the drama has blown over is that he is largely protected as he is one of the wealthiest academics and brings a LOT interest and money into the University.

Hi Tom! Quick note about the KIPP vs public school experiment. Another factor to consider is that charter schools can set disciplinary rules that are very different from their public school counterparts. This makes it very easy to expel students, where public schools have to jump through tons of hoops to show that they have supported a student as much as possible before they can transfer them somewhere else. In NYC, when I taught, charters also manipulated the reporting/budgeting cycles to their advantage.
How does that work? Every school reports their enrollment in early fall. Then they shed students who require additional support, and those kids get kicked to the public schools. However, the dollars assigned to that student stay at the charter, and the public school has to do more with less. Everyone reports enrollment again in the spring. The State cuts the commensurate dollars, but publics then have to rush to spend them (it's often a sprint to contract for services with nonprofits) because if they don't spend it all, the state will use that to justify cuts in the future. So those schools get more challenging students, with fewer dollars to spend on them for the majority of the year, and then have to make quick decisions that don't allow them to plan as strategically.

Our worst enemy is ourselves. And we do a good job at deferring blame unto anyone but ourselves. Squint and you shall find that there are villains in the world, indeed, but we are also villains that, if we do not learn self-control, we can destroy ourselves in our own actions and patterns of thinking. The beauty of this is that we can turn into heroes and be of help to ourselves and others. But this takes intentionality and effort. We need to work for it. But if we do not invest in becoming good our base desires will take the best of us and our pulsations can destroy us and others.

"The Excel data file posted online and analyzed by Data Colada shows that Ariely created the Excel file and the last person to modify it was Nina Mazar, a co-author of the study.
"On Aug. 6, Mazar forwarded Data Colada an email that she received from Ariely on Feb. 11, 2011. The email reads “Here is the file” and attaches an earlier version of the Excel data file, which shows Ariely both created the file and was the last person to modify it.
"Mazar found two mistakes in the data file. First, the effect observed from the data was the opposite direction from the paper’s hypothesis. When Mazar asked Ariely about this, he wrote that “when preparing the dataset for her, he had changed the condition labels to be more descriptive and in that process had switched the meaning of the conditions, and that [Mazar] should swap the labels back.” Mazar did so, according to Data Colada.
"But Charlton noted that if Ariely didn’t touch the data, it wouldn’t have been possible for him to miscode the data.
“You can’t miscode a variable if someone else does all the data work and you didn’t touch it,” he wrote.
"The other error was that the Excel formula used to compute the difference in mileage between the two odometer readings was missing in the last two rows of data, which Mazar also corrected.
“It is worth noting that the names of the other three authors-Lisa Shu, Francesca Gino, and Max Bazerman-do not appear on the properties of either Excel file,” according to Data Colada.
"Charlton also noted a “logic problem” with the hypothesis that the insurance company itself fabricated the data: “Why on earth would an insurance company fabricate data in such a way as to support Dan Ariely’s hypothesis?”

This guy describes how water is wet, in such a significant sounding way: he refers to funnel, that has all the functionally of a more common word viewpoint. But funnel sounds cooler, its a way to silo a viewpoint as it develops over time, those in the "funnel" with this unapproved and unsanctioned and shared viewpoint are really poor saps who fall into a funnel, like a dark hole, who are now separate from everyone else with a different viewpoint. But instead of percieving it as two view points, it is framed in a bipolar way, where everyone with the "right " view who is outside the funnel... and the others who fallen down this "funnel" with the "wrong" view. And his description just further functions to ostracize those with a different view, placing them in the category of being caught up in "funnel." The merits of any issues are never addressed for its basically, sactioned views (the same people who accept unquestionably what their betters have said) vs unsactioned views ( who dare question) are relegated into the "funnel". Amazing conversation.

Postmodernism = everyone has their own truth, so morals and values are whatever it is you want to believe they are. So why not stay ignorant? why bother learning your own culture's norms? Anything goes. The generations raised from the 70s onward in the western world are thus completely docile and morally incoherent.
If the only source of moral authority is political power, then at the game theory level, only the most fanatic and virulent world views will survive,, and they can no longer be attacked on moral or cultural grounds, so there is no stopping them. This is like an immune system failure.
      Enter Progressivism and radical Islamism.
It's not clear if western civilization can snap out of its postmodernist delusions in time to prevent its destruction.

It seems that people invested continue to follow the story, the court cases the freedom of information acts etc. Whereas the people who discount it don't often realise that something from a legal perspective has even occurred.

It's always the role of the intellectual after the fact to fix the troubled person after years, if not, generations of injustice have made that person/people vulnerable to such a dystopian world we live in today. Some problems can only be fixed by justice alone. Let philosophy and psychology be welcomed again once people are not treated as slaves anymore.
