    Bought a 2021 model off Mercari for around 80$ , it came in yesterday. You are right , the Apple TV is so smooth and ZERO LAG compared to the Firestick which I’ve only used until now. I’m only a iMac away from the whole ecosystem but the Macs need bigger screens. 24inch is too small for me. Hoping Apple goes back to 27inch screens and above. The Apple TV definitely is worth the money. Great video Craig and I’m subscribing.

I would definitely order one. Thank you for subscribing. I do appreciate you sticking around. Make sure to check out the Apple Tip videos. A great one I learned is asking Siri What did he, she or they say? Then it will hop back 15 seconds, turn on subtitles and play the part over. Then turn off subtitles.

    I have the 2017 version and the 2022 version. I think Apple did a great job keeping the 2017 version fresh because there’s no difference in user experience. The new version is a little bit snappier. The one thing I did notice was video games on RUclips playing in 4K 60fps playing on the 2017 version would only output at 1440p 60 fps. The new version plays in 4k 60fps no problem.

    The big advantages of the Apple TV are speed, simplicity, and no ads. Anything that’s Tizen or Google-based have tons of ads taking up huge chunks of the screen. As for HDR10+, that’s for Samsung and Panasonic TV’s. They don’t support Dolby Vision, partly because they helped create HDR10+ and they don’t want to pay Dolby for the royalties. Unfortunately most streaming services don’t support HDR10+, but two that do (to some extent but not universally) are Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime Video.

Apple is far from perfect (e.g. high prices and then not including a cable!) but I do prefer them when it comes to privacy. @CraigsTechTalk  2 года назад +2

      Thank you very much David. I am glad that you enjoyed it. I am with you on that assessment. That is an interesting topic. We do see as an Apple TV user the option to ask apps not to track you through Apple TV. That feels like they are putting up a wall that others aren't. But who knows, what happens on the advertiser end. That would be an interesting topic to see how much you can really find out from these companies.

    I dumped U-verse TV this week and switched to Direct TV Stream. A couple reasons, price, video quality, not needing a cable box for every TV that I have to pay a rental fee on.
    I have Apple TVs and Fire TVs, but the Apple TV is going to be my main device now, because of the HSV camera feature. I’ve wanted that for years, I hoped the Fire Cube Gen 3 would make that happen no matter what I was watching with the HDMI input on it, but it doesn’t.
    I have 4 TVs, 2022 ATV with Ethernet, 2 2021 models, and 1 gen 1 4k model.
    I do wish that it would share HSV processing between them if needed, maybe one day.

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  2 года назад +1

      Let us know how Direct TV Stream goes. I have been on Hulu Live for a few years. Apple HomeKit Secure Video is really cool. The HomeKit camera options go beyond what a lot of people realize. I would like to see cameras be able to use 2k in HSV.

    • @rswyltk
      @rswyltk 2 года назад +1

      @@CraigsTechTalk I’m happy with it so far, I had the highest package in U-Verse, so I got the highest package on Direct Stream, after looking at it, I think I’m going to drop down to the lowest tier. The only thing I watch above that tier is the movie channels. I get HBO Max from my cellphone plan, my dad has Epix and STARZ streaming, so I have access to those.
      As far as cameras, I’m using Ring and Wyze, and bringing them into Apple with scrypted, it can make pretty much any camera an HSV camera, take a look on here if you haven’t seen it yet.

    Good video. A few comments. 1 is if you have faster than gigabit networking to your house and a wifi 6 router, the ethernet port is of no use, as you would be better served using the faster wifi connection, so if home automation is of no use to you, then the 64gig is fine. I was able to find it at Costco for 125, and they didn't carry the 128gig model, so I just picked it up instead, as both the above cases apply to me. The only other thing I want to say, is you claim this is "Still the BEST!" in the title, and then say you have not tried its biggest competitor, the Shield. So, how do you know it's the best? :)

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  Год назад

      Thank you. If you are showing faster Wi-Fi speeds on the Apple TV than it makes sense not to do Ethernet. As for the still the best, it’s a title to a video. It is meant to make people click. It is not clickbait that does deliver on the title. It is the best device I have used out of the 3 big players that count to me, Google, Amazon and Apple. I honestly could not care less about Shield or Roku. They are niche products with no greater ecosystem or devices. I get people like them and usually it’s for something 90% never even think of. That and my coffee maker fried itself today so I need a new one and will go the turn it on with a bot route this time rather than a cheap machine with a switch that fries itself after a month. Haven’t decided on the coffee maker model yet. I’ve got it down to 2. I know which one I’d prefer but need to check that just pressing start and not selecting things with the dial will work. I’ll call them tomorrow to ask. Might wait to see if they have a Black Friday sale though as it’s a bit exxy. I guess I’ll go back to instant for a week or so.
    I will check if Decos are drastically reduced for Black Friday but that’s it then for me until at least February. I got 3 months of pay at once this month so I’ve had my little spree but now I need to be careful to not go over budget. I’m used to monthly pay but 3 months will be a challenge!

      I am sorry to hear that the delivery man didn't even try. I am seeing that happen with expensive items that require a signature. I hope you enjoy tvOS. I don't know if you are able to cancel your switchbot order. They will be having some great sales from the 18th through the end of the month. I love that you are finding the right coffee maker for your buttons to work with. It is the smart move since there are not a lot of smart coffee makers. Thanks for checking out the video and sharing what you have going on.

      @@CraigsTechTalk they’re lazy buggers aren’t they! So rude. I have to go to a funeral Tuesday so I figure I’ll pick it up on my way home from there and setting it up might cheer me up.
      I thought about waiting for a sale but I really don’t think that company will have one. It’s just a small business. Switchbot stuff is a bit hard to find here. Amazon has the hub but no bots. This small business has pretty much the whole range. And the hub was $23 cheaper through them than Amazon! If they do have a sale I’ll consider the extra I paid my contribution to supporting a small Aussie business. Penance for all the things I’ve bought from Amazon recently!!! Lol. The coffee maker I want is through a major company though so they might have a sale. They have in previous years. So I can suck it up and make do with instant until I’m sure about that. I might pull out the stove top coffee pot for Tuesday. That’s an early start that’s gonna hurt. Good coffee will help.
      I had a look to see if there were any Alexa/Google coffee makers that might be perfect if they had Matter, but nothing was suitable. There were a couple, but they were 110V of course so I’d need a step down transformer as well and that’s just getting messy then. There were no Australian ones that would work for me. So a bot it is.
      I looked around last week and realised that there are only 2 rooms in my house that don’t have anything smart. Not bad for a relative newbie! It was about May when I first started this, so only 6 months! And the item that got me started was a video doorbell, which I still don’t have 😂 I can’t justify the price of the Logitech or Wemo. Maybe with Matter the Eufy will become an option. That will be for the next house.

    • @CraigsTechTalk
      @CraigsTechTalk  2 года назад

      That is great you can get them from a local business and better that you are saving. I just hated the idea of you ordering from Amazon today and them being on sale next week. We are definitely in a weird time with the Matter of launch. We could see a lot more options for the home this time next year.
      That is impressive that you only have 2 rooms left in 6 months. I am impressed that as a newbie you are talking about Matter and factoring that into your decision. Some long time users aren't there yet. A doorbell got me started too. My wife told me about the one her friend had and liked the idea of it for traveling. So technically I guess she started the smart home.

      @@CraigsTechTalk the sales are never as big here as what you get anyway. The last one in October, I picked up some Meross plugs for 20% off. Other than that the only items reduced were Eve Bluetooth sensors. And of course Amazon’s own products which I’m refusing to buy lol. I keep a pretty close eye on the prices of a few things as they show as discounted all the time so I’m careful to not get sucked in to buying it during a sale when it’s always on sale.
      It is a weird time isn’t it. I’ve been looking into HOOBS too but I don’t think I can justify the cost of the box or a raspberry pi when it will be a temporary thing if Matter works as intended. I do have a Windows 10 laptop that I hardly use and could use that for homebridge but I think that’s a bit above my skill level. I don’t know coding and I don’t particularly want to learn. Plus I searched through the plugins and there aren’t any for most Australian products. I think the bots and hubs will tide me over. One hub in the lounge will replace everything the Aqara camera hub is doing, and one in the kitchen for the coffee machine bot. The robot vacuum is packed but another bot will be for that. Then one more for a light switch or something. Moving the Aqara hub to the front window will give me motion alerts, and the doorbell tone it plays should be heard from outside which will solve another problem. Having the Aqara mini switch “doorbell” so close to the hub might reduce the delay a bit too.
      I’m trying to be careful to only buy things that I know for sure will be useful at my next house, which i hopefully will find soon as I’m starting to get a little anxious. So it’s mostly bulbs and smart plugs, and a couple of IR blaster hubs and 2 HomePod minis. And now the AppleTV. But still no proper doorbell lol.
      Isn’t that funny that doorbells got you started too! And that your wife is essentially responsible for you having a channel! That’s hilarious. She can’t ever complain that you’re spending too much time on techy stuff because it’s her fault!!!

In my opinion, it’s not that big of a deal but that’s just me. In terms of overall it’s arguably better quality. Won’t be a downgrade for sure.

It can’t work on heuristics… It can’t read out the azimuth of the sun…. Location based automations don’t run automatically… Basic stuff is just impossible with HomeKit.

    Let's be honest: the Apple TV 4K is a wonderful device for digilliterate people with cheap/outdated Smart TV's. It provides a butter smooth interface and everyone with an IQ over 24 can operate it. However, if you value audio quality, you should leave it on a shelve. People who buy external media players are often looking for a better experience than what comes with just about every smart TV for no additional cost. Unfortunately that's not something the Apple TV can provide, as it lacks lossless audio (i.e. TrueHD/DTS-HD MA) support and offers little more than any current high-end Smart TV does. It doesn't even have AV1 HW support which will be the new video format to replace h.265 on about every platform.
