Would have loved to see Apple implement “Find My” Remote feature and MagSafe wireless type charging like how the Apple watches charge. This rendition would have saved also anyone from getting the USB-C charge port dirty.
What I find is the most important thing about using Ethernet connections is the security it provides. Hackers can’t see it and get into your network when you use a physical connection. I wired my whole home a few years ago. Love it.
The one issue I have with the ATV is that many developers are not in a rush to implement the best features for ATV. It took RUclips forever to implement match dynamic range on ATV. Fox Sports app offers 4K HDR for all platforms except ATV (4K SDR only). Amazon implemented Dolby Vision for “Rings of Power” on all streaming platforms except ATV (HDR 10 only). For this reason I keep my Android TV apps active and have a Firestick 4K Max as well.
I think the best point you brought up is to emphasize that thread support is *already* a useful feature. People don't need to wait for version 1.0 of Matter(™) products to roll out, thread is useful right now. And it's nice to see you'll be back to posting some more videos! 👍
Since this video I fixed this problem. We initially kept it high up to be out of reach of kids, and we were re-using a mount from a smaller TV we used to have on the same wall.
I went back to watch your video on using HomePods as TV speakers and it is good but definitely outdated now. You could try revisiting the topic now that last year’s Apple TV introduced that eARC audio routing feature. I have been using my HomePods permanently for all my TV audio, including consoles and PC and I am shocked at how well it works now.
Does screen mirroring work for you? Because I can’t get I working when the HomePods are selected as default output, indicating that mirroring doesn’t work over multiple AirPlay hops
I hope you are right about the full sized HomePod. My long term plans are to have HomePods as my home theatre and want something that would do justice to Dolby Atmos.
I have a pair of OG HomePods as a stereo pairing for one of my Apple TV’s and it’s rather awesome. They don’t take up as much room as a sound bar either.
My kids regularly max out my 1st Apple TV 4K, which I have on my living room TV, so I upgraded to the new Apple TV 4K. I also have an old Apple TV 1080p, which I still use in my bedroom, but I think I’m gonna use it in a Honda Odyssey that I plan on purchasing within a month or two. 😄
Yes Dan. The Apple TV box is a set top box with those same apps as well as tighter integrations into Apple's ecosystem with things like quick HomeKit access, better Fitness+ connections, iCloud Photo Library and AirPlay and remote control from your Apple devices.

I don't know specifically about your TV, but...If you want to use your Apple TV as the smart part of your TV, I find the easiest way if to make your TV forget your Wi-Fi network and or unplug Ethernet to it. Then use your Apple TV remote to turn it on and if your TV supports HDMI CEC then it will turn on with the Apple TV and you can start streaming.

Hi Eric, is the model on your shelf taken from ‘Kiwi’ the short movie where he dives off the cliff to simulate flying?? Brings a tear to my eye every time!!
I don't think that's currently possible. Here's what Apple says to developers: "Although iOS and tvOS apps are distinct entities (meaning there isn’t a single binary that runs on both platforms), you can create a universal purchase that bundles these apps. The user purchases an app once, and gets the iOS version for their iOS devices and a tvOS version for Apple TV." So, a developer would have to create an iOS version and a separate tvOS version, both of which you'd get if you bought the app, and you'd load the appropriate version onto the device you're using.

I wonder why they do not support directly connected external storage anymore. Would be very nice to browse through and play from an external USB drive. Ah, maybe they want you to buy movies from iTunes and pay for streaming services through the App Store.?
I have the 4k model from 2017. Just bought an LG C2 OLED with 2.1 HDMI ports. Would it make an appreciable difference to get new HDMI 2.1 cables with the older model or just uprgrade to the new 2022 model? Does the new model come with an HDMI 2.1 cable or is that something I must purchase?
I just recently upgraded to from the the 2017 model to the 2022 model. It’s pretty much the same experience. I did notice on RUclips when watching video games in 4K 60fps that the 2017 would output in 1440p 60fps. The 2022 model outputs the same video in 4K 60fps.
The thing does not come with a cable to charge the remote so I will let you guess........ LOL I am an apple user and have not ever used usb c to charge anything on device side. No cable is going to make a lot of people tilted. Its worse tthan what they did with the phones because old brick and cable would charge.
USB-C is absolutely the best (and will eventually be the only charging option) which is a good thing for so many reasons. That being said, since Apple Lighting was announced about 11 years ago, I have used the lighting port in many apple products. Some of the lighting wires did break over time, however, ZERO failures were from the device. I have an iPad Pro 11" that has tremendous issues charging from the USB-C and will one charge from one particular USB-c wire, even brought the upload to Apple to have them fix it (the iPad is like new but out of warranty) apple said they could only replace it, which is crazy as the pad is otherwise working and looking great. We also have an issue with a Nikon digital camera where the USB-c stopped working completely. I still believe in USB-C, but from my perspective it's not as good. One other thing, USB-C has an open slit at the end of the tip where dust and particles can get in and cause issues, where lighting does not have that issue.
Haha yes Tom. I might talk about that more in a future video. I am not an ultra outdoor person, but I am an ultra Apple Watch user and I appreciate the better screen, battery, and action button for those reasons.
Welcome back! I picked up one of these 2022 Apple TV’s specifically because of HDR10+, which is the only advanced HDR supported by Samsung TV’s. @@PCWorld22 No, they had made an announcement they were going to introduce HDR10+, but then the announcement vanished and people thought Apple wasn’t going to do it. It didn’t come in until the new Apple TV 2022.
Whats the point in these high storage? Even even you had most of the Apps, you would still have plenty of room even with the lower tear model. Hey you were right about the new Home POD.

That sounds like match content coming into play. Check your Apple TV settings. You could try turning match content off but it means your TV won't adjust to the frames per second of the video you are watching. (30 fps in my case and 24 fps for "cinematic" channels 😉). If I were you I would just live with loosing the first few seconds and enjoy the proper frame rate but it's a trade off either way.
@@EricWelander, I’ve been contending with it, by pausing and backing the video up to the start, but what a PITA. I’ve also noticed that HBO & RUclips TV are often worse when attempting to get an episode to start. I often have to quit all running apps, and then launch HBO or RUclips TV.
This helped on my 1st generation 4K Apple TV (A1842): On the Video and Audio settings, Match Content is set to Range & Frame Rate. Select Format and then scroll down to Other Formats and select 4K SDR (60 Hz). That reduced the number of times when the RUclips app blanked out the screen to deal with a frame rate change.

I forget in most cases people will use this device with streaming platforms, as I mostly use my own Blu-Ray, 4K dis backups on my Plex server and stream to all of my Apple TV 4K devices. I can only get DDP (Atmos lite) out of those devices. However my trusty Shield TV Pro still remains king in my home cinema room but Apple TV in all other rooms.
@@salarsadri 1I really don't understand Plex. When I want to watch a Blu Ray I use my Blu Ray player. Simple.
@@BookClubDisaster I was in the same boat but have 5 TV's in my house and an Apple TV on each one minus the Cinema room which I have a 4K player, Shield TV Pro and my Disc collection. I love physical discs but appreciate keeping a backup or even a hybrid version of the move I own on my home Synology server. For example: I have the Edge of Tomorrow 4K disc that is mastered in TrueHD and the BluRay with DTS:X. The DTS:X version is arguably better on this particular movie and I was able to backup my 4K movie and Blu-Ray and mix the audio file with the 4K file to create the ultimate experience.
never knew there was a fan in my 1st gen 4k..
The mandatory thing that I think I need after having an Apple TV is definitely a case, its remote is not good of holding, it hurts my hands
Only disappointing thing is bluetooth is not updated to 5.3!
I bought this new Apple TV but not sure yet what the advantage is. Tv came with an Apple TV app. Sometimes we are using the app sometimes the apple device which has a less useful remote. Feels like I don’t need the Apple TV
Why is it great that Apple stopped selling the 1080p version and why does it bother you if they keep around old tech and sell it?
@ 3:40 tv way too high, sound bar mounted way too low, if scoliosis doesn’t kill him the illegally run power cable might 😂
I’m on my second apple 4K tv, I had to buy another one because my first 2018 one was glitching and I bought the 2021 apple 4K and works great. I guess I will have no choice to buy the new one if my present Apple TV starts acting up but so far so good it’s working superb.
Off subject, but if they ever make a live movie version of "King of the Hill", Eric can have the part of Boomhauer for the asking. A little dialogue coaching from Mike Judge and it's him!
The extra space is for future apple VR.
They should maybe have ability to download iTunes movies to the apple TV for offline viewing with that much storage
