Nothing Beats An Honest Mechanic 🙏🏽

Having tinkered with cars my whole life, I can truly appreciate the mind of someone like this, who goes for the easy fix, instead of spinning his wheels for hours on other issues. I sometimes let my mind run away with me and imagine all kinds of problems that are not really there. Bravo to this gentleman!

Thank you Peter for being an honest mechanic I'd say 80% of all mechanics are trying to make more more money the popping sound was to get you to replace more parts then they was honestly tighten the bolts then do your back brakes or buy your van no money to make more

True it's this way a lot now. I had a tire guy everyone knows but he tried to say in disgust my v6 wasted so much gas. I laughed in his face and said just for that I'll charge him a thousand over market value because he just wanted to use and abuse it and then flip it for profit. Pretty disgusting.

    Inspection, inspection, inspection.
Here is an interesting experience to buttress this:
I had a rotational left rear noise on my Highlander that waxed and waned with speed. My mechanic diagnosed it as coming from the rear differential. Replacing the differential did not stop the noise.
I took the car to an elderly retired mechanic friend on my street who does minor repairs at home. He listened to the noise as I drove past where he was standing. Next, he threw a mat under the car and in less than 3 minutes, he came out with a picture of the problem on his phone.
It happened that the emergency brake cable came loose and was rubbing on the lead weight used in wheel balancing that was placed on the inside of the rim.
Thinking back, I remembered I had complained that my emergency brake was not working. My mechanic fiddled with the cable, but said it was a job for another day. He must have forgotten to properly put the cable back in place.
It appears that older mechanics are more thorough and more methodical than the younger ones.

This reminds me of a 1994 Grand Voyager LE I bought used many years ago. It did not stop well and it make a clunking noise when turning lock to lock. It had a lifetime set of dealer service records. A brake job had been performed and the rack was recently replaced. All four steering rack bolts were loose and the brakes were for a base Caravan. I torqued the rack bolts and replaced the brakes with the proper pads and rotors and had a great vehicle for several years. Dealer service does not guarantee correct or competent service.

Great job again Peter! @3:48 That miss alignment of the motor mount bolt bugs me LoL I would have loosened the nuts, maybe lifted the motor to see if it may pop back in it's old resting place. James has found a great mechanic.

Got a 2009 Ford Focus Manual in the UK, and I am having the same clunk or metallic bang when I turn the wheel like 4 hrs ago. But when I just go straight, it don't make the sound.
It morphed from just a squeaky suspension sound when I hit bumps or potholes to a full blown clink and clank. When turning the wheel and rolling slow.

Undercarriage sounds that translate into the cabin usually sound bad, so it can be easy to think the worst.

I've seen trans replacement on your back. I don't understand what you said it was extra. You mean the cost of a lift is extra or to use the lift is extra? I know there are some DIY shops that charge extra to use the lift otherwise you have floor jacks.

Thank you for the video! I have a 2007 Toyota sienna that makes squeaks and creeks when I’m turning the wheel left or right at slow speeds. I put brand new struts and stabilizer links on it. Hoping that was going to fix but it still squeaks and creeks plenty especially in cold weather. I tried to spray all the bushings and rubber components with lubricant but nothing has really fixed it. Any suggestions?

that sounds like ball joints. My lower ball joint was bad and it made that same creaky noise when turning at slow speeds. It sounded like an old door creaking. But check lower, upper and tie rod ball joints.

Check your lower control arm bushings. They have a tendency to crack causing a squeak or a creak. Recently changed them out on my '08 Sienna ~ 190,000 mi

I couldn’t find a solution or even a reason for a problem on RUclips, I drive an 05 Magna and when I turn a right corner, there’s a VERY obvious singular clunk/thud coming from what seems to be my front right wheel
It’s not a metal sound, more like a rubber/plastic sound? I’ve checked and it’s not my wheel bearings or my actual wheel, would you know what it is?

I have a 2011 toyota camry which gives a clunking sound on the first acceleration for the first 2 gears after a cold/warm startup. I'm confused about whether it's the CV axles or the transmission is failing. Can someone share their thoughts?

  • @psmevents

I have a similar sound and first thought it was the Struts (70K miles). hard to replicate sound on demand. seems to make when going over potholes, speed bumps but also just when tight turning. hope it's not the mounts.

what did it end up being?

    • @psmevents
      @psmevents Год назад +1

@@inspectorjavert5563 The shop heard the sound but didn't want to commit to a expensive "replace and see" method. They said all the steering linkage and tie rods appeared in spec / normal. It might be the struts but they weren't leaking and they mechanics couldn't replicate the sound in the shop. Went to 2 separate repair facilities. To me- it may be worth it to take it to dealership for their 2 cents.
