That's usually the shaft rubbing against the rubber grommet where it passes through the firewall. pull the grommet slightly to the side, spray some white lithium grease in there, and turn the wheel back and forth to work it in.

I have a Toyota RAV4 from 2013 and this noise is only heard when the car is stationary and I turn the steering wheel left-right. Nothing is heard while driving.
I went to the car service and the guys lifted my car on the lift. Obviously, when the car is up, there is no noise when I turn the steering wheel because there is no load on the wheels.
The same problem with the Toyota Avensis (T 27), the same way to solve the problem, the broken part is the same, the repair cost 11 euros per part and about 4 hours of work done by me obviously.
Is there any way to know the partnumber for a lexus ls430 year 05. I have tried asking my lexus deslarship but they cant find it. I just know its this part i need
Should be the same. If it's an 05 I'm sure you have a regular hydraulic power steering system. This will not apply
@@gautorepairdamn, thought I found my answer for my 05 ES330 but it doesn’t have EPS. Any idea what would cause the rattle on hydraulic system?
Hi I bought this code reader but I seem not to be able to find transmission fluid temperature Do we have to get it update before we can see that information. Thanks
Lexus RX350 2013 same issue. Stupid toyota dealership alredy changed my steering rack without solving the problem about two years ago because off these noises. It was weak then. Now it getting worse. Thank you for this video. Hope its the same part number for the lexus 😛
I have 2013 Venza and have the same noise when moving the steering wheel right or left while park or hit small pot holes/bumps when car moving slowly... Not sure to take the car to garage or do it myself (seem hard though)...
Do you know if it's the same part for a 2012 toyota highlander? I see this part covers a huge range of toyotas with electric power steering but I can't seem to find the answer
I do believe it's the same part for all
I have a 2015 RAV4. My steering wheel sometimes gets sticky when making little adjustments like going around curves on the road. Do you think it could be caused by this damper starting to fail?
Mechanic wants to change the steering wheel column...same problem like you in a rav4 2017, but it looks like that star shape little thing is not in rav4 cause I have been looking for that or videos and can't find
@@gatitofeo82
@@gatitofeo82 our mechanic said the same thing but it was too expensive for my taste. Decided to live with it and keep driving until it got worse. I ended up spraying some silicone lube where I could on the shaft. It still felt sticky for a while but seems to have gotten a little better (or I’ve gotten used to it).
@@mmann2042 I did change the battery cause I found on Google that a low battery can affect the steering wheel because it's electric and of my battery was super old and leaking, I did also replace the intermediate shaft for a new(not OEM $100)wich is not difficult to replace but need to secure the steering wheel so doesn't move and doesn't require many tools but still the same.. however in my case when I did spray lubricant to the old intermediate shaft it didn't make a difference.. why don't you make sure that in your case is only this part you need to replace
@@gatitofeo82 will do as soon as it starts sticking again.
Do you have a video showing how to drop the steering wheel like you did?
I don't
Would this apply to a 2015 corolla?the car has gotten a new rack an punnion, inner/outer tie rods (they were worn) within the past year. But still makes a similar noise. And seems to be getting worse.
As long as it has eps it’s worth checking.
Dealer trying to charge over 3k for a new steering rack and labor. The said the bushing is not sold separately so I need to replace the entire rack. I found it on eBay for $7 and fixed it myself.
They know better. The part number is in their catalog. Its like a 10-15 dollar part at the dealer
Thank you brother. Truly appreciate your video!!! Great help.
I need to do this on my car, wish there was an "upgraded" bushing or damper. I heard adding some grease helps too.
is it safe when u add some grease to it?
Thank you!! I have the same problem 2015 Camry
Can it be done without dropping the column?
Same noise when the car in stationary or low speed when turning the steering wheel..but the dealer told me replace the steering rack. :( . The noise is gone after replacing and it costs me 800$
Hi. Does this fix work on a 2018 Rav 4 Hybrid. If so are there any videos Thanks.
@@MrJammyp1 have you fix it?
he so rite, we got a 1100$ part/labor intermediate shaft on the 13'camry wrong fully diagnosed, instead it was the coupler aka damper , theres videos of disconnecting the lower connection to the rack of the column and this is a better way of just dropping the steering column half way and do it there and save a step, wish he went step by step tho.....
Dude I’m trying this now and I can’t even remove that heater piece in one go. It came apart in half and the other half is still stuck on
Yeah that piece is, in my opinion, the biggest pain the the rear of this whole repair. It's always the stupidest thing that give issues lol
i have a 2013 toyota venza with a similar sound coming from my steering column, i called a toyota dealership and they say this part isn't available, they want me to buy the whole power steering motor, wondered if you know if the damper for the camry is the same for the venza.
Yes it is
@@gautorepair thanks for the reply, the dealer says the steering column for the 13 camry is different than the 13 venza, they say i have to buy a new power steering motor for 1800.00
I did a video on a 2009 venza and used the same part. Take a look and see if it's similar on the 2013
do you have to recalibrate the column and motor since it was removed . if the motor turned any before you put it back together?
No
Perfect exactly what i needed. Well done.
I have to do this for my 2010 Lexus RX350 but I cannot find this part any where online.
Visit your local dealership
Okay but what if I feel vibration/rattling when I place my hand on the intermediate shaft while driving is it a bad rack or this plastic thing on the motor? ( the intermediate shaft is new)
The damper. It has fooled me before. It feels right on the intermediate shaft
Anyone have a link on where to buy this part plz?
Does this works on a Scion tC 2016?
Excellent video. I appreciate your help.
Does this also apply to the Toyota RAV4? 2013 Mode
Not sure if it has electric steering but if it does there is a chance that this applies
thank you so much ❤❤❤from Philippines
Thanks for watching and your support
I have that issue now, easy replacement but it looks like a pain in the ass to remove all the stuff to get to it
Mine is making a similar noise on bumps only. Not turning steering wheel. Seems early for a 2015 SE with 35K miles? another video said to check for loose nuts on steering column area?
I have the same car with 98k miles. Does it on bumps and when I press on the brakes.
Hey boss if this dampener is bad would it also casue alot of play in the steering wheel ? tie rods control arms and ball joint all seem tight
How did u figure it out it was that little piece .
Can that cause u to runs off road?
My allion 2014 is having same issue only when driving on uneven road
