Replace the stock carburetor with a Walbro WYK-194-1 & you'll get a substantial uplift in performance with the ability to easily tune the Low & High speed fuel mixture along with running an engineered fuel which will improve exhaust emissions & eliminate that obnoxious gasoline smell.
That will immediately void the warranty, so that Is not going to happen. What you or other consumers do is on them. I keep it OEM until the warranty is out. Then add a water exit exhaust and you just eliminated what you swapped your carb to achieve. A tuned down pipe is the key.
The emissions in a Honda is about 95% efficient. The side discharge while underway and sitting idle has never been an issue. I have built 100’s of the new 50cc versions with no issues.

Not at all with a clean burning 4 stroke. You may get a scent if you are idle for a while with no wind, but I have never had an issue with the exhaust smell bothering me or the dozens I have built for clients.
informative video, but (yeah there's a but) from the video's point of view it was noisy which defeats the purpose of a Kayak being all quiet and stealthy moving along minimal disturbance. In the video you said it wasn't bad (the noise) but man from watching it was. I also don't know about having it center mass for a whole fishing trip just so I can power back in as the narrator suggests. Also noticed the bare legs near that hot motor head, could be painful trying to get out of the Kayak after running in with this "Buddy". One question, why the out riggers? was it for safety with this engine install? never needed or used out riggers. Put it on a new Shearwater 125 fishing set up and try it again speed test without the out riggers. But really think the "Buddy" should be behind the occupant not between the legs (for convenience I get you placed it in the drop in scissor blade slot). On second thought I'm thinking placing in the slot but lowering the whole thing so its a small hump and use the Kayaks rudder system to turn the boat. make it lower profile and just an forward and reverse engine.
St. Nick as I said the camera is 2 ft. from the engine. Of course it does not record with accurate decibels. The Revo is very compact and the water keeps it cool. I have never had an issue with heat period, but remember most people do not power these smaller kayaks. This is just informative and just plain fun. I would not power a Revo, unless it was a tandem. No cockpit space. What most people do is to keep the system in the storage compartment and use this for the trip home. It acts like a front wheel drive car. It’s way faster than rear mounted engines. Lifts the hull up and has zero cavitation. I have electric mounted to the same system that is even faster. Sounds like an RC car. When your kayak weighs over 125lbs like the large PA beasts, a gas power plant is perfect to have when you spent. The stabilizers are for my wife and allow side mounted engines that are offset by the stabilizers. These barely touched the water. I had these on initially for her, but I needed video for customers who want the capability of non-transom based kayaks to have power. These are fantastic.
If I was mounting on the new Vibe it would go in the back. Heavy kayaks benefit from having 50cc power. Anything less requires higher RPM. I have a new Pursuit and it is going to fly with rear power with trim and tilt.
@@kayakbuddysllc-lightweight4947 good to hear, I know when you edited this video you couldn't help but hear the constant motor noise, I was as you might say just checking. I've been looking at one of the electrics but this does present options. Still like the video. Have you fished with the buddy yet?? does it interfere in any way?? one last, does the weight above center G destabilize any? from your experience as in have you stood up and run it yet or "rocked the boat" for stability check??
St. Nick you have no choice to hear the motor because of the echo on the plastic. It is not as loud as it sounds. I didn’t have a GoPro mount to pull the video away from the kayak to get real sound and not the harmonics of the engine. This kayak is simply a test bed to see if the drive could work. The Hobie PA kayaks are awesome with the 50cc power, plus it is a good 1.5 ft.+ difference in rear seat to peddle opening. Now, as far as fishing, all of my engine setups are in the rear. I fish Nucanoe kayaks and use these all of the time. I don’t leave without it. Whether I use or not I have a power choice. The Frontier gets 5.7-6.1 mph with 50cc. The Pursuit will be faster I imagine. I haven’t rigged it out yet. It never gets in the way and actually I forget its there most of the time. I also use either a leaning post or just stand. The motor does zero to stability, because it is 23lbs and is centered. I get no deficit by having it on board.
