I went to the link provided...Every model is out of stock LOL! I'm not surprised. I would definitely consider this as a 2nd Kayak. Still working on my 1st one. 4 seasons later... Pelican Challenger 130T. Same length. A couple of rod holders. Original 2 foam seater tandem but those were crap(removed them). added an anchor trolley, Anchor wizard bought but still not installed, marine raider high back boat seat bought but not installed yet, registered for a trolling motor add on, but still trying to come up with the right DIY configuration. Even bought a McClain Trailer for it figuring I'd eventually upgrade to a jon boat. I could go on an on about this Kayak lol! The point is I paid only 450.00 dollars new for it at academy, and still haven't used it as much as I planned due to all the upgrades I want and need. Sometimes saving money still costs you more time off the water. This Hammer Head Kayak is ready to go and any upgrades are going to be a lot easier to add, due to it's ready design! Nice Vid man! Now I am motivated to go finish mine up. Maybe I'll do a video of that when its all done! Sub earned!
Just an awesome kayak and I look forward to getting mine. If you are looking to start out kayak fishing, this would be the way to go. I will have mine by the end of the month! 😀😃😄
one more thing . its been like 8 months since you posted this video . i think you had enough time to try the kayak . i noticed that the front is different than any other kayak . does it resist the water or its smooth ? and is the drive reliable or not ?
That is a nice kayak man. I am glad to hear that it is made for big people. I have loss a lot of weight. I was at 390Ibs & now 275Ibs so it's nice to know that this kayak will whole me. Brother I don't know of i missed it or what. Do you know how much weight can it carry? Good video brother thanks you for sharing it & be safe out there.
Great video and review. Subbed! I'm a bigger dude too at 6'2 280lb so I'm always on the look out for big stable options for kayak fishing. In fact I am about to purchase an Sportman 120 or a Dorado, but can't quite justify the $$$. This kayak looks like exactly what Ive been looking for, and the option for fin or prop drive had me about to swipe the card! Until I visited the company website. The lack of brand positioning and using the free version of Wix as a retail storefront immediately and sadly shriveled any confidence I wanted to have on purchasing. Anyway, awesome channel man, keep it up!
I know there’s a big price difference between them but how well do you think this holds up as far as stability and control in comparison to old towns 120 pdl’s? Getting ready to make a big decision over here but this yak definitely has gotten my attention.
I kind of like the kayak. When you said I could upgrade the rudder I know I like the kayak. I fish the Oregon in California coast. It takes a good turning kayak to do it safely. There's a lot of kayaks out there and some expensive ones but that means nothing when you're on the ocean.
Love your videos brother. I'm over in Destin, FL! Was wondering if you have seen the new Brooklyn Kayak Co 12.5 Pro it looks very similar but is slightly cheaper and has a pre fabbed trolling motor setup to drop in where pedal dive goes.
Thats a cool kayak. They definitely took ideas from feel free and hobie, while delivering it at a good price. If i was interested in a lake only kayak I'd buy it. Im a river guy though and big like you, so i stick with nucanoe. Being able to put a motor on a kayak is a must for me. It makes solo up river trips a breeze.
Generally peddle drives are not all that bad price wise, you just gotta avoid Hobies. Not knocking hobie, they are good boats with vary cool drive designs. But hobie will overcharge you in every possible way. By that i mean they will try to sell you a 50 cent screw plug for 20 bucks or a 10 dollar deck hatch for 150. Ever since Hobart Alter passed his family has been trying to milk every last dime they can before all his patents expire.
Eddie has other models that are pedal drive at even lower price points. They are just as well made just not as BIG! The Bullshark model is 12' has the same drive options and is $1599. I know he has a couple of other pedal models as well that are even a little lower in price than that. All are same quality and great boats. This one is the largest in his line up. So as the size reduces so does the price.
1500 to peddle your butt off, or 500 to buy a trolling motor and second hand Jon boat... Where you don't peddle at all... Have the ability to take a second person, have increased stability and fishability, a better seated angle to actually see into the water.. and the list goes on. Buying a kayak is like buying Starbucks... You get less for more cost.
@@ryandaniels8022 a halfway decent jon boat is gonna cost you more than a grand my dude and that doesn't include the trailer. Then a decent mini kota is gonna cost you 600 and up, if you want a lithium cell tack another 500 ontop of that. Also don't forget about your motorized vessel registration fees.
@@ryandaniels8022I have a 16’ bay boat with a 60hp and trolling motor, a 10’ Jon boat with a with a 3.5hp and trolling motor and a 10.5’ pedal drive kayak and I can honestly say I catch more fish with my kayak and It’s the most comfortable out of the three to fish out of. The added benefit is I get a little work out to stay healthy by pedaling.
Problem is the company doesn't offer shipping for their kayaks, and the only places to purchase are in Mississippi, Florida or Alabama. So cheapest or not, no matter what size, is completely irrelevant for the majority of consumers. So realistically for a kayak of similar size and capability, someone would be better off getting the Wilderness Systems Radar 135 at approx $1700.
Where do you live? We are close to resolving the shipping issue. Looked at the wilderness kayak, the price is about the until you add their $1400 drive that isn’t included in the $1700 kayak price.
My concern is the paddles for the pedal drive. What happens when you hit shallows? I know the rudder folds up, but the drive system? I feel like if you hit the shallows, they would snap. Also, reverse? Is it possible with the pedal drive?
I want one. Cycling class became 3-D. I still need a paddle for upper arms/ rowing capabilities for abs. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ I also love the side for the fishing knife. Need a cuter life jacket with free purchase thou.
Hey bro . Great review you are the best to introduce this great kayak . I was hesitating but am gonna go ahead and buy it now . But I have two questions 1- Is the plastic material as good as Hobie for salt water ? 2- During your trip and maneuver , were you using the extra radar fin or just the normal one ?
Well it’s hard to compare $1600 kayak to a $6000 kayak. Stability and storage is very comparable. I haven’t spent enough time in this kayak to know about efficiency on the water.
Fair enuff. I bought the whale shark and love it!! I didn’t know about the pinned rudder tho… haha So now I’m anxious to try the steering which should be a lot tighter radius. I also greased the steering cables coming out the rear of the hull which took away the grinding noise and made it a lot easier to turn the knob.
That's definitely a nice rig. I like it alot. I personally use a Jackson Coosa FD. The rudder system on the Jackson is sort of similar to what you have there, minus the drop down extension. I REALLY like the drop down. I'll bet it really helps with tracking. Thanks for sharing this fine piece of equipment with us.
@@kennedybj1 that's what I did also. Found out the hard way that if you use it in saltwater, IMMEDIATELY wash the drive with fresh water. I waited a day to wash mine and ended up having to get a new drive.
@@racerx12003r good to know but I'm in indiana so no salt here..the number one thing i like about our kayak is the easy access to the prop to clean off the grass and what not...
One question I would have about such a big kayak is that due to the back handles obviating any possible transom mounted motor, any motor would need to fit into the drive hole, which is both good and bad, good, because it makes it easy for purpose designed solutions like a Bixby drive or similar, but bad because it reduces options for non proprietary DIY mounting options that individuals might want to use to reduce costs. This Kayak definitely seems to be a bass fishing focused system but I also wonder how it would do in the ocean; through surf etc. I probably handles great, but I wish there was some internal hull storage for rods etc so as to be able to put extra gear for long ocean trips. otherwise it looks like a great alternatives to those more expensive kayaks (although would be better priced at $1399).
Great question. I was thinking the exact same thing. I'm on the west coast of Fl and considering buying a Kayak to fish inshore, just not sure what to get yet. This one looks amazing.
Haven’t seen any updates. Have you been using this kayak? Would love to get an update on the fin drive reliability and how shallow this kayak can go. Thanks.
On the water, trolling motors and stuff, prepared stuff for miles an hour is pretty darn quick, I’m curious to see what those panels look like or the fins underneath
Would you say this would be a good kayak to use here in NW Florida Sound Side and Bays and Bayous?? I really want a pedal drive kayak to go fishing for reds and trout. Kind of impossible to do in my area from land as most of the good spots are private property.
A few weeks ago, I comment on this video then copied and pasted the comment to your review of the baby whale shark. You thought I was being critical of your review but that was not my intention. I meant to say that I think the whale shark is comparable to your other kayaks. (not as good but comparable) I completely screwed up. I think your videos are great. Also, I think that the Hammerhead Kayaks are great deals for someone wanting to fish from a kayak. It would be hard to find better service then what you get from Eddie.
I was going to buy this one until I learned that I could raise/ lower the rudder from the cockpit. I ended up going with the great white model instead. The great white has 5 rod holders.
Isn't it the same as a pa14 where the rudder stays up. My viking profish reload I'm currently selling to get this yak in Australia has a rudder that stays down but flips up if it hits anything. One issue I have with flip down and up rudders is they can break. I know lots sea kayakers that there fold down rudders break due to moving parts to make them fold down.
What is that pedal called? I noticed it's not the "cycling" pedal, but rather a stepping pedal. Can that version of pedal be purchased and installed on other kayaks?
If you could review the hoodoo impulse 135 dual drive it's about the same cost but sometimes you can get it for about $1400 and I'm curious how it would hold up to someone your size.
There's a kayak out called Old Town Sportsman it's a pretty nice kayak it comes with a trolling motor RJ's paddle 1u demonstrated as much cheaper affordable
I'm looking to get into kayak fishing as I've recently moved to the Nashville area. Is there any feature to prevent breaking off the fins when they hit on bottom as I'm fishing the shallow small streams?
What seems to suck about these kayaks is that every one I looked at you have to buy "in store" or they're out of stock. Like out of stock on it seems much of their models. Though I chalk that off to them prob just making their newest models like this one now.... I live in Maine(and grew up in Old Town which is the home of Old Town canoes obviously)....so I'm not gonna be heading anywhere near their store(are they is S Alabama or something iirc, right?). So if they ever get shipping handled I'll check in with them again. I really like the setup of quite a few of their kayaks. You can tell when fishermen are helping to design something.
They're just rebranded Chinese kayaks, you can order this exact one from the same place these guys did. Cheaper, delivered to your door, just without the fancy sticker on it.
Looks like a more refined hobie. I love my outback but would definitely consider this for a second kayak for the wife. The price makes it a hobie killer!!! 😮
I don't even fish but this looks awesome. I think I'd have a good time fishing if I could bring EVERYTHING. This looks like you could make a camping trip out of it. What if I fall out? Could I pull myself back in without tipping the thing over? I'm 160 lbs. and not a lame-ass.
Ascend 133X Tournament Sit-on-Top Kayak Ultimate Saltwater Fishing Package it doesn't have the pedal drive but comes with a GPS trolling motor fish finder yakattack wiring system already built in and a few other things for like 2100
While I am not going to "round up" my weight - I'll round down 😀- this is a great intro to a kayak for guys our size. Thanks for the pointer to the website!
I can't seem to find kayak stands wide enough for my pro angler 12. The set you have in this video look more than wide enough for a pro angler 12. Where can I purchase those in the video? Thanks !
Pretty nice kayak & price! A possible motor option to buy would be a PAC Motor. Although, I don’t think you would have the speed as a Bixby & how to mount a Bixby.
You’re right! That is one heck of a deal. The fact you can swap drives is very innovative.

Do the hatches have gaskets? They don't have much info on the website.
Haven’t seen any updates. Have you been using this kayak? Would love to get an update on the fin drive reliability and how shallow this kayak can go. Thanks.
Well, when people post these types of video's and then ask for updates and they don't do it, kind of a "red flag" for me.
Looks like maybe a hunting option if its in darker colors. That back area looks like it could hold a large lab easily
Sweet ride! Great review, I am going to check it our a little more. Thanks.
🙌
looks perfect machine for fishing congratulations thanks for sharing
How many water skiers can you pull at the same time?
It looks nice!!! But what do you mean 16.99??? The price change if has the propeller system????
Is the fin drive extra?
Nice overview…It looks like an Awesome Kayak..For sure…Salute!!!🍃🍃🍃
Thank you!!
Can you buy the seat separate?
I don’t think so
Yes we do have these seats available as a separate item
Yes you can
On the water, trolling motors and stuff, prepared stuff for miles an hour is pretty darn quick, I’m curious to see what those panels look like or the fins underneath
Is there an adapter planned for a trolling motor mount?
I’m not sure but I know there’s some 3rd party motor mounted options
Would you say this would be a good kayak to use here in NW Florida Sound Side and Bays and Bayous?? I really want a pedal drive kayak to go fishing for reds and trout. Kind of impossible to do in my area from land as most of the good spots are private property.
Definitely!!
@@southernsalt sweet! Thanks for the reply.
Kaku voodoo or Zulu is right around that price and are amazing you should try one of those next
I can review them no problem but I don’t think those are peddle kayaks
@@southernsaltonly the Zulu is but it’s 2125$
Have you looked at Brooklynn Kayak Company kayaks?
Where can I demo one of these?
A few weeks ago, I comment on this video then copied and pasted the comment to your review of the baby whale shark. You thought I was being critical of your review but that was not my intention. I meant to say that I think the whale shark is comparable to your other kayaks. (not as good but comparable) I completely screwed up. I think your videos are great. Also, I think that the Hammerhead Kayaks are great deals for someone wanting to fish from a kayak. It would be hard to find better service then what you get from Eddie.
I would like to see a comparison with the prop drive. As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
Would be interested in seeing the pedal drive vs fin drive. Also the New Baby Whale vs the Whale Shark. Also the Baby Whale vs the Hobie Lynx.
This too has 5 rod holders....
Great review! Thanks for putting this video out.
🙌 thank you!
There's a kayak out called Old Town Sportsman it's a pretty nice kayak it comes with a trolling motor RJ's paddle 1u demonstrated as much cheaper affordable
I have one it’s my primary fishing kayak. However it’s more than 2x the cost of this one and requires a trailer to transport
The flap rods snap but you can relace sprockets and rods with hobie mirrage gt parts which much improve the drive.
Can a hobie drive work in it?
wish it had a spot already molded for a trolling motor to mount to.
I'm looking to get into kayak fishing as I've recently moved to the Nashville area. Is there any feature to prevent breaking off the fins when they hit on bottom as I'm fishing the shallow small streams?
Not on this model
Kayak is 🔥 always wanted to get one
Di it. You won't regret it
Where can I take a look? I am in Huntsville, Alabama
I believe there’s a dealer nearby there. Reach out to the company I believe there’s a link in the description
Wish they had a dealer in Texas! That’s a beast of a kayak!
Might be one soon!
Nobaddays kayak shop right around Austin has them now
I don't even fish but this looks awesome. I think I'd have a good time fishing if I could bring EVERYTHING. This looks like you could make a camping trip out of it. What if I fall out? Could I pull myself back in without tipping the thing over? I'm 160 lbs. and not a lame-ass.
Very functional! Larger 15 feet version would be nice!
How would this do on the sol cal wave?
No experience there so I have no clue
Ascend 133X Tournament Sit-on-Top
Kayak Ultimate Saltwater Fishing
Package it doesn't have the pedal drive but comes with a GPS trolling motor fish finder yakattack wiring system already built in and a few other things for like 2100
While I am not going to "round up" my weight - I'll round down 😀- this is a great intro to a kayak for guys our size. Thanks for the pointer to the website!
😂 😂
what is the draft on a prop. mod.
I can't seem to find kayak stands wide enough for my pro angler 12. The set you have in this video look more than wide enough for a pro angler 12. Where can I purchase those in the video? Thanks !
Harbor Freight sells these. They are used in auto body shops. Each stand is rated for 200#
@@hammerheadkayaks36582 awesome! thank you for the info.
How’s the stability compared to the PA14?
It’s equally as stable
Pretty nice kayak & price! A possible motor option to buy would be a PAC Motor. Although, I don’t think you would have the speed as a Bixby & how to mount a Bixby.
good videi , i am a big guy also 245lb and need to have a stable one,, by the way where do i get that mph app you have ? whats the name of it👍
It’s called “speedometer “
Can you interchange electric motor drive from pedal drive?
Yes. A Bixpy motor set up drops directly in place of the drives.
We also have a new electric motor in the works that will cost about 250 with the mounting system included
