Finally a Big Guy kayak that does not break the bank or require selling a body part to afford it. Like how it did not really move when you stood up in it, nice wide foot print with the added tri-hull feature.
This is the first kayak I have ever seen that I would consider purchasing. I'm just a tad lighter than you and you look very comfortable on it! I also like the hull and the added stability it gives you. A ton of storage on the back too!
Why? A Jon boat setup is way cheaper, more stabile, more fishable, can get into 4 inches of water, and may even be easier to car haul... Why spend 2-3x more for a lesser product?
The tri haul as complete stability adds a tremendous amount of noise in the water! I absolutely love the storage in the front where you could put your fish on Ice
So many people that dont kayak fish, have so many opinions. I throw my kayak in my truck and go. No registration and hardly any maintenance. I also sneak in to the spots other people cant. I love my yak
Nice simple and practical design. Like the storage space. We already have a Hobie PA17T and a couple of pedal kayaks we bought used. But if we didn't already have those, this would be on the super short list.
Just an awesome kayak and I look forward to getting mine. If you are looking to start out kayak fishing, this would be the way to go. I will have mine by the end of the month! 😀😃😄
I went to the link provided...Every model is out of stock LOL! I'm not surprised. I would definitely consider this as a 2nd Kayak. Still working on my 1st one. 4 seasons later... Pelican Challenger 130T. Same length. A couple of rod holders. Original 2 foam seater tandem but those were crap(removed them). added an anchor trolley, Anchor wizard bought but still not installed, marine raider high back boat seat bought but not installed yet, registered for a trolling motor add on, but still trying to come up with the right DIY configuration. Even bought a McClain Trailer for it figuring I'd eventually upgrade to a jon boat. I could go on an on about this Kayak lol! The point is I paid only 450.00 dollars new for it at academy, and still haven't used it as much as I planned due to all the upgrades I want and need. Sometimes saving money still costs you more time off the water. This Hammer Head Kayak is ready to go and any upgrades are going to be a lot easier to add, due to it's ready design! Nice Vid man! Now I am motivated to go finish mine up. Maybe I'll do a video of that when its all done! Sub earned!
Great video and review. Subbed! I'm a bigger dude too at 6'2 280lb so I'm always on the look out for big stable options for kayak fishing. In fact I am about to purchase an Sportman 120 or a Dorado, but can't quite justify the $$$. This kayak looks like exactly what Ive been looking for, and the option for fin or prop drive had me about to swipe the card! Until I visited the company website. The lack of brand positioning and using the free version of Wix as a retail storefront immediately and sadly shriveled any confidence I wanted to have on purchasing. Anyway, awesome channel man, keep it up!
Thats a cool kayak. They definitely took ideas from feel free and hobie, while delivering it at a good price. If i was interested in a lake only kayak I'd buy it. Im a river guy though and big like you, so i stick with nucanoe. Being able to put a motor on a kayak is a must for me. It makes solo up river trips a breeze.
Best kayak we all have seen for sure! Thanks for sharing, only problem is 110lb weight, I`d need a trailer as I wouldn`t be able to put it on a roof rake. I`m 76 years old and I`m looking for a kayak for fishing and cruising.
I feel your pain I’m 66 and got spoiled with a canoe I got two tandem kayaks for my kids/ grandkids that I can use from the center but man the seem heavy compared to my old canoe and it wasn’t even a light weight canoe it was a 14.5 OC2 and I would flip it around and paddle from the front seat going backwards I sold it to an older lady when I moved for what I paid for it on Facebook she was happy to get it it weighed 79 lbs and had over a 600 lb capacity
definitely bubble based inflation due to brands like Hobbie, OldTown, Bonafide selling way over inflated kayaks whose basic manufacturing and materials costs have actually dropped. so they now are making incredible profits selling $150/400 dollars of materials/labor at Apple levels of profit margin... This of course has caused the market to be a gold rush with a bunch of smaller companies jumping into the fray. (of course they will all deny this but it is very easy and clear to see.) Eventually the market for large overpriced kayaks will pop and hopefully we will see a real price correction that reflects their real value ie a price range between $300
Engineering, production, marketing, distribution, profit, etc add quite a bit to any product. Compared to other products in this class the price seems very competitive.
That is a nice kayak man. I am glad to hear that it is made for big people. I have loss a lot of weight. I was at 390Ibs & now 275Ibs so it's nice to know that this kayak will whole me. Brother I don't know of i missed it or what. Do you know how much weight can it carry? Good video brother thanks you for sharing it & be safe out there.
I kind of like the kayak. When you said I could upgrade the rudder I know I like the kayak. I fish the Oregon in California coast. It takes a good turning kayak to do it safely. There's a lot of kayaks out there and some expensive ones but that means nothing when you're on the ocean.
This kayak comes with the option of either drive style. Our prop drive system takes about 25% of the effort of the Feelfree drive. The drive is very easy to pedal. The weight capacity on these is better and the stability seems to be better. The Whale Shark kayak is big and works great for big boys like me.
Problem is the company doesn't offer shipping for their kayaks, and the only places to purchase are in Mississippi, Florida or Alabama. So cheapest or not, no matter what size, is completely irrelevant for the majority of consumers. So realistically for a kayak of similar size and capability, someone would be better off getting the Wilderness Systems Radar 135 at approx $1700.
Where do you live? We are close to resolving the shipping issue. Looked at the wilderness kayak, the price is about the until you add their $1400 drive that isn’t included in the $1700 kayak price.
Generally peddle drives are not all that bad price wise, you just gotta avoid Hobies. Not knocking hobie, they are good boats with vary cool drive designs. But hobie will overcharge you in every possible way. By that i mean they will try to sell you a 50 cent screw plug for 20 bucks or a 10 dollar deck hatch for 150. Ever since Hobart Alter passed his family has been trying to milk every last dime they can before all his patents expire.
Eddie has other models that are pedal drive at even lower price points. They are just as well made just not as BIG! The Bullshark model is 12' has the same drive options and is $1599. I know he has a couple of other pedal models as well that are even a little lower in price than that. All are same quality and great boats. This one is the largest in his line up. So as the size reduces so does the price.
1500 to peddle your butt off, or 500 to buy a trolling motor and second hand Jon boat... Where you don't peddle at all... Have the ability to take a second person, have increased stability and fishability, a better seated angle to actually see into the water.. and the list goes on. Buying a kayak is like buying Starbucks... You get less for more cost.
@@ryandaniels8022 a halfway decent jon boat is gonna cost you more than a grand my dude and that doesn't include the trailer. Ascend 133X Tournament Sit-on-Top Kayak Ultimate Saltwater Fishing Package it doesn't have the pedal drive but comes with a GPS trolling motor fish finder yakattack wiring system already built in and a few other things for like 2100
I was going to buy this one until I learned that I could raise/ lower the rudder from the cockpit. I ended up going with the great white model instead. The great white has 5 rod holders.
Isn't it the same as a pa14 where the rudder stays up. My viking profish reload I'm currently selling to get this yak in Australia has a rudder that stays down but flips up if it hits anything. One issue I have with flip down and up rudders is they can break. I know lots sea kayakers that there fold down rudders break due to moving parts to make them fold down.
Looks like a more refined hobie. I love my outback but would definitely consider this for a second kayak for the wife. The price makes it a hobie killer!!! 😮
One question I would have about such a big kayak is that due to the back handles obviating any possible transom mounted motor, any motor would need to fit into the drive hole, which is both good and bad, good, because it makes it easy for purpose designed solutions like a Bixby drive or similar, but bad because it reduces options for non proprietary DIY mounting options that individuals might want to use to reduce costs. This Kayak definitely seems to be a bass fishing focused system but I also wonder how it would do in the ocean; through surf etc. I probably handles great, but I wish there was some internal hull storage for rods etc so as to be able to put extra gear for long ocean trips. otherwise it looks like a great alternatives to those more expensive kayaks (although would be better priced at $1399).
Great question. I was thinking the exact same thing. I'm on the west coast of Fl and considering buying a Kayak to fish inshore, just not sure what to get yet. This one looks amazing.
While I am not going to "round up" my weight - I'll round down 😀- this is a great intro to a kayak for guys our size. Thanks for the pointer to the website!
Everything is impressive with the exception of the weight, I’ve got an older 13’ Hobie which weighs 60 pounds. I don’t know at 66 years old if a could handle 110#. By myself.
I don't even fish but this looks awesome. I think I'd have a good time fishing if I could bring EVERYTHING. This looks like you could make a camping trip out of it. What if I fall out? Could I pull myself back in without tipping the thing over? I'm 160 lbs. and not a lame-ass.
I know there’s a big price difference between them but how well do you think this holds up as far as stability and control in comparison to old towns 120 pdl’s? Getting ready to make a big decision over here but this yak definitely has gotten my attention.
I mean it looks fantastic I would definitely want one. I’d like the high seat the width the length all the compartments but I’m not spending $1600 that’s kind of ridiculous. I can buy a boat for $1600 I’m guessing they gave you this for nothing? Hey Lucky you
On the water, trolling motors and stuff, prepared stuff for miles an hour is pretty darn quick, I’m curious to see what those panels look like or the fins underneath
This kayak looks great! Finally some decent pedal drive kayaks at a decent price. I’ve got a Hobie PA12, and this kayak rivals it almost as far as I can tell.
@@Goodellsam the easiest way to mount a trolling motor to these kayaks is to buy the Hobie cassette plug that goes into the drive and integrate a trolling motor into the plug. Lots of RUclips videos will show you how.
Nice boat for the price. The 110 lbs. is too high for me. I struggle with my Old Town 106 PDL at around 75 lbs. But the 13 ft. long explains a lot of the weight.
Pretty nice kayak & price! A possible motor option to buy would be a PAC Motor. Although, I don’t think you would have the speed as a Bixby & how to mount a Bixby.
That thing is absolutely unbelievable. I have a Pelican 110 Catch and it has been the worst product I ever owned in any category. Yes, the price is pretty significantly, than the Hammerhead, but another 2 months of saving I could have had something special. I am just blown away by that kayak. Unbelievable.
This is another in a long line of Chinese Ali Express kayaks that are rebranded and being sold. Great price point, but there is a reason for that low price. BKC and other brands have been selling these kayaks and branding them. The big question is how much real support do they give to customers. The hull is far too deep and the hull speed is very slow regardless of effort pedaling. Rudder is totally undersized for most fishermen, and the upgrade was not listed on the website despite being discussed in the video. Overall, please know what you are getting into and I hope that Hammerhead provides real support to customers unlike some of the other Chinese kayak resellers. ( I do not say Chinese in a derogatory manor, but just to be clear as to where these kayaks are designed, manufactured and sold)
There's a kayak out called Old Town Sportsman it's a pretty nice kayak it comes with a trolling motor RJ's paddle 1u demonstrated as much cheaper affordable
Vibe Makano 100. It's a little shorter of a boat @ 11 feet but has the drive and everything. Same price point $1599. I'm looking to buy something like one of these, but I'm a big guy also 300lbsish, so this looks good.
The Vibe kayak is actually 3’ shorter, 3-1/2” narrower and had 200# less capacity. It’s nowhere near the same. I’m close to 300# and I wouldn’t even consider that kayak. It’s just too small for guys our size.
Love your videos brother. I'm over in Destin, FL! Was wondering if you have seen the new Brooklyn Kayak Co 12.5 Pro it looks very similar but is slightly cheaper and has a pre fabbed trolling motor setup to drop in where pedal dive goes.
The vibe shearwater 125 is close to this size. Also pedal drive or interchangeable. At 12 foot 6 inches long and 35 inches wide and 82 pound hull weight it's a close contender at about the same price. The weight capacity is around a 100 pounds less but it's more streamline designed and not as bulky. It will be my next kayak but I'm kind of biased haha I had their seaghost before
The price on the vibe does not include their drive which is $700 more. This kayak has far better stability and is close to having as much space. Read reviews on that one before buying it.
The vibe is a nice kayak, but much smaller than this one. The vibe is like a Hobie outback and comparable to the Hammerhead Bullshark. The Whale shark is closer to a Hobie PA
What seems to suck about these kayaks is that every one I looked at you have to buy "in store" or they're out of stock. Like out of stock on it seems much of their models. Though I chalk that off to them prob just making their newest models like this one now.... I live in Maine(and grew up in Old Town which is the home of Old Town canoes obviously)....so I'm not gonna be heading anywhere near their store(are they is S Alabama or something iirc, right?). So if they ever get shipping handled I'll check in with them again. I really like the setup of quite a few of their kayaks. You can tell when fishermen are helping to design something.
They're just rebranded Chinese kayaks, you can order this exact one from the same place these guys did. Cheaper, delivered to your door, just without the fancy sticker on it.
Bro this thing is bad ass.. I love it except one thing like another one you do review.. the back should build a wheel on to easy for one person carry to water .. ✌️..
I really like this kayak. I have a little kayak envy and I have a pa14 360. I can't believe it's only $1700. I spent over x3’s that much on mine. U could've easily loaded it up with fish finder, power pole, and motor 😢
My concern is the paddles for the pedal drive. What happens when you hit shallows? I know the rudder folds up, but the drive system? I feel like if you hit the shallows, they would snap. Also, reverse? Is it possible with the pedal drive?
Haven’t seen any updates. Have you been using this kayak? Would love to get an update on the fin drive reliability and how shallow this kayak can go. Thanks.
You’re right! That is one heck of a deal. The fact you can swap drives is very innovative.

One issue I have with flip down and up rudders is they can break. I know lots sea kayakers that there fold down rudders break due to moving parts to make them fold down.
This too has 5 rod holders....
Looks like a more refined hobie.
I love my outback but would definitely consider this for a second kayak for the wife.
The price makes it a hobie killer!!! 😮
Sweet ride! Great review, I am going to check it our a little more. Thanks.
🙌
Is this good for saltwater and freshwater... Does a paddle come with
I would like to see a comparison with the prop drive. As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
While I am not going to "round up" my weight - I'll round down 😀- this is a great intro to a kayak for guys our size. Thanks for the pointer to the website!
😂 😂
Everything is impressive with the exception of the weight, I’ve got an older 13’ Hobie which weighs 60 pounds. I don’t know at 66 years old if a could handle 110#. By myself.
Very functional! Larger 15 feet version would be nice!
Great review! Thanks for putting this video out.
🙌 thank you!
Would be interested in seeing the pedal drive vs fin drive. Also the New Baby Whale vs the Whale Shark. Also the Baby Whale vs the Hobie Lynx.
Kayak is 🔥 always wanted to get one
Di it. You won't regret it
Looks like that could take a Min Kota electric motor?
What wave height can it handle?
Kaku voodoo or Zulu is right around that price and are amazing you should try one of those next
I can review them no problem but I don’t think those are peddle kayaks
@@southernsaltonly the Zulu is but it’s 2125$
Really cool boat and review
Thanks for sharing this information 👍
Thank you!!
Wish they had a dealer in Texas! That’s a beast of a kayak!
Might be one soon!
Nobaddays kayak shop right around Austin has them now
Picking one up in june cant wait!
🙌
I’m a big dude as well. Never thought about kayak fishing. Might have to check one of those out?
🙌
I can buy a boat for $1600
I’m guessing they gave you this for nothing? Hey Lucky you
On the water, trolling motors and stuff, prepared stuff for miles an hour is pretty darn quick, I’m curious to see what those panels look like or the fins underneath
This kayak looks great! Finally some decent pedal drive kayaks at a decent price. I’ve got a Hobie PA12, and this kayak rivals it almost as far as I can tell.
Absolutely
How do you mount a trolling motor to it?
@@Goodellsam the easiest way to mount a trolling motor to these kayaks is to buy the Hobie cassette plug that goes into the drive and integrate a trolling motor into the plug. Lots of RUclips videos will show you how.
Nice boat for the price. The 110 lbs. is too high for me. I struggle with my Old Town 106 PDL at around 75 lbs. But the 13 ft. long explains a lot of the weight.
Great review Nate!
Thanks man!!
I have one it’s my primary fishing kayak. However it’s more than 2x the cost of this one and requires a trailer to transport
Is the large platform on the back, big enough to sit a chair on for another person? Thanks
this is everything i could ask for in my next kayak. i really hope the quality is there long term. they hit it out of the park.
🙌
Vibe Makano 100. It's a little shorter of a boat @ 11 feet but has the drive and everything. Same price point $1599. I'm looking to buy something like one of these, but I'm a big guy also 300lbsish, so this looks good.
The Vibe kayak is actually 3’ shorter, 3-1/2” narrower and had 200# less capacity. It’s nowhere near the same. I’m close to 300# and I wouldn’t even consider that kayak. It’s just too small for guys our size.
The flap rods snap but you can relace sprockets and rods with hobie mirrage gt parts which much improve the drive.
Can a hobie drive work in it?
Love your videos brother. I'm over in Destin, FL! Was wondering if you have seen the new Brooklyn Kayak Co 12.5 Pro it looks very similar but is slightly cheaper and has a pre fabbed trolling motor setup to drop in where pedal dive goes.
I haven’t seen that one.
I bought the Jackson Bite fd I love the yak, but this is bigger, more space, more options, same weight, and $500 cheaper!!!
I would love to see your review on a blue sky 360 kayak !
I’ll see if I can get a hold of one for a review
I'm very impressed with the performance and price
🙌
That thing , looks like a mix of Hobie , native and lighting kayaks , looks super stable but I am sure slow ass he’ll
Good review sir.
Have you seen the new Lite Skiffs? They look pretty intriguing.
Cheaper, delivered to your door, just without the fancy sticker on it.
nice kayak , especially for older salts lookin at kayaks
That rudder is very clever
Just ordered this Kayak. Any recommendations on a optimal kayak cart that would be compatible with the size and shape of this kayak?
Pretty cool, but when you said “affordable” I wasn’t thinking used waverunner prices….
If you buy a used wave runner for this price I’m sure it’ll leave you stranded
Bro this thing is bad ass.. I love it except one thing like another one you do review.. the back should build a wheel on to easy for one person carry to water .. ✌️..
I really like this kayak. I have a little kayak envy and I have a pa14 360. I can't believe it's only $1700. I spent over x3’s that much on mine. U could've easily loaded it up with fish finder, power pole, and motor 😢
I like this one. It might be a nice replacment for the Shadow Castee ai have modified. I would like to have a pedal drive that works like that one.
My concern is the paddles for the pedal drive. What happens when you hit shallows? I know the rudder folds up, but the drive system? I feel like if you hit the shallows, they would snap. Also, reverse? Is it possible with the pedal drive?
The Nurse Shark is even a better deal. A tandem with dual pedal drives for $2k! Thanks for doing this review.
Brooklyn Kayak had a 13 ft with your choice or pedal drive or troller motor for the same price
How do you think this thing would do in water with swell? Would the hull design make it annoying to sit in with anything other than flat water?
It looks nice!!! But what do you mean 16.99??? The price change if has the propeller system????
Love the storage, hate the seat😂
Haven’t seen any updates. Have you been using this kayak? Would love to get an update on the fin drive reliability and how shallow this kayak can go. Thanks.
Well, when people post these types of video's and then ask for updates and they don't do it, kind of a "red flag" for me.
