@@TheMrWhitmore well i mean Battlestar galactica was in the 2000's. One great show in a decade does not make it a good decade for the genre. In the 90s there were a lot, and a lot of those were great.
I feel you're counting out the original series because that was pinnacle Trek from which all the Treks after it followed but DS9 was apart of the 90s pinnacle decade of Sci-Fi.
That's what I like about Star Trek intros. No shooting, no phaser fire, explosions, charging Klingons... Just one ship (or a station) and space, lots and lots of space. The most exciting moment was when that wormhole opened at the end. But despite all this, the impression is just great. This is a sign of a great series: even the simplest opening reaches the viewers.
This is why being an Australian, I loved the intro that we had for Stargate SG-1. Literally just the theme music over the top of the Pharoah face like in the film, but quicker to get the whole pan over.
It was a great intro because it tells a little story. It is not just a ship whooshing by. First we open in the deepness of space, then we're gradually aware that there's some activity and the space station in the middle of nowhere. There are ships coming and going and people in space suits working on the thing. One ship (which fans know is the Defiant) undocks to go somewhere and suddenly there is the wormhole! Where is it going? What is the Wormhole about? We know just enough for the story to want to know more. It is a perfect introduction
I have the feeling that the star trek tv series where shot on cheapish film material or maybe even early digital cameras from the looks of it. With that said it might be possible that the footage is as good as it gets and would be impossible to remaster to hd
CrazyKraut20 You could use some of that Lumintri (or however you spell it) colour to breathe new life into the live action scenes, and redo the 3D animation scenes using all the latest and greatest technology at our developed disposal.
So, for Star Trek HD remasters, the problem isn't the film used. The film used was high enough quality and still exists in its original form. This is what was used for TOS and TNG remasters. The problems begin when it comes to things like effects and editing. Effects were not made using the original film, but were rendered at their smaller broadcast resolution. They would need to recreate each effect again and render in HD. The editing was also not done at original resolution, so they would have to reedit the episode painstakingly in line and in sync with the original. This was done for TNG. The remasters were sold for a very high, but fair price, and sales figures were down. And that was for TNG. A lot of us would love them to release remasters of the other series, but that's unlikely to happen any time soon without some miraculous cheaper process.
In the documentary, they talked about how they had to find the original footage and re-scan for HD, but there was really bad organization and some episodes only exist in their pre-edited form. So they had to search through 10 different barrels of film to find the right shots etc
It is too bad they did prequel show(Enterprise) instead of continuing the timeline. We got to see a Captain Nog in an alternative timeline episode, but not seeing a post dominion war/Borg destruction timeline with Nog being a commander or captain is a travesty.
Funnily enough DS9 when you think about it has a bigger message of unity than all the other treks despite being alone in space. @@lizardlegend42 True, but a show doesn't have to be super dark in order to have great character arcs and strong storylines. Tv today seems to get confused with that and we get plenty of super dark, gritty and frankly depressing shows that lack characters we care about or lack any kind of entertainment due to commitment to shock value or depressing the audience. The good shows know how to blend dark and light and be entertaining. DS9 is one of them that got that right.
@@kendallrivers1119 Oh god I absolutely agree with that no question of course! True depth is knowing how to blend the dark and the light. But with that said being able to delve into the dark is certainly a powerful tool in the right hands
How did it come to this. I played Richard III. There were five curtains calls, I was actor once. Damn it, now look at me... LOOK AT ME!! I can't go out there, and I won't say that STUPID line one more time! I can't, I won't!
DS9 is so damn good. Loved every single main character from this show which is surprising because I always hate at least one person on shows that I watch.
I was far to young to appreciate this serious when it first came out, but viewing it now as an adult i can appreciate it for being the best of the Star Trek series.
From TOS to Enterprise, we will always argue the order of quality in this legendary franchise, but I hope we all agree that the openings to all of the series were some of the greatest in all of TV history. Pure beauty and works of art.
Everyone of them had a separate feel to the series. DS9 was diplomatic and political. Voyager was about getting home when lost. Enterprise was about starting out on an uncharted journey as the underdog. TOS and TNG were about Galactic exploration.
Funny thing is when I was younger, DS9 was my least favourite trek series but now I am much older and have seen it all the way through again, I rank it closer to the top. I think the reason being based on a station that didn't move it was much more of a character drama than any of the other shows, which were largely adventure stories on ships encountering all sorts of crazy stuff each week. You have to appreciate some of the really amazing performances the actors put in this show consistently, particularly Andrew Robinson as Garak. Also I can think of two episodes of DS9 that for me are again right up there with the best trek episodes of all time. My most memorable one is 'In the Pale Moonlight' which is incredibly powerful, dark like no other trek episode I have ever seen and thought provoking.
Season six made nice improvements on an already-awesome intro. I liked the addition of the ships coming and going, the little welder-guys stuck on the pylons- Just the everyday going-ons of the station that we usually never got to see. I also LOVED the small changes to the music, especially the subtle tempo/beat thing added to the background, which also added to the idea of the station being "alive" with movement and activity, more so than the previous seasons' intros.
IMHO, this is the best Star Trek series - every season is awesome, character development is at its finest (makes you really care about the characters) and there are many fascinating alien races and recurring characters. TNG has a mediocre first season; TOS has little to no character development and many stereotypes, e.g. Chekhov and Scotty; Voyager has Neelix who is something like the Star Trek version of Jar Jar Binx; and Enterprise takes two seasons to really start being entertaining. To sum it all up, Deep Space Nine is the best.
Agreed, DS9 was brilliant. It tackled so many serious topics involving war, ptsd, effects it can have on the innocent and much more. I loved TNG, but it just fell short. I wish they would show it on tv more where i live
I thought DS9 was boring as a kid and favored The Next Generation. My Dad always was like "Deep Space 9 is the best" and I was like "Deep Space 9? You mean Deep Space NEIN!" Then I grew up and watched the whole show in less than two weeks. It is easily the best Trek series.
I only finished watching it mid this year, I felt it dragged on a lot and I absolutely hated the relgion aspects, I also found the ending was very disappointing. Sure there were some exceptional episodes but there wasn't enough of them, I still liked it more than Voyager however. I watched TNG later in the year and I enjoyed it much more, I also found that it had a satisfying ending unlike DS9 and Voy.
*SPOILER ALERT! DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE SERIES* I'm with you on the religious aspects of the show. Everytime someone mentioned the Prophets, it made my eyes turn. In addition I can also note that Kai Wynn is the most annoying character in the series and I enjoyed watching her perish, it would have been even better if she had died a season or two earlier. I don't feel let down by the last episode, however. The final battle between Sisko and Dukat was as epic as it could be and somehow it's nice to see that the ending isn't fully a happy one since we don't get to find out exactly what happens to Sisko after his ascension (that's the only way I could call it). As for the ending of the other four series: TOS doesn't have a proper one; TNG's seemed so dull to me, I don't even remember it and I only watched it a couple of years ago; Voyager has the best ending in my opinion of all five series; Enterprise's ending was absolutely degrading to the whole series which got cancelled when it finally reached its potential. Other pros for Deep Space Nine: Sisko's got to be the most badass captain of all (he's black, after all); Cardassians are one of the most interesting alien races in the franchise (and my favorite one) and Marc Alaimo and Andrew Robinson did one hell of a job portraying Dukat and Garak (if I didn't know any better, I would have thought that Garak was actually Robin Williams); the Ferengi served as a good comic relief without making you cringe... too much; Odo's relationships with Quark and Kira are also very emotional and interesting.
I absolutely love DS9. It sorta strays away from the exploration aspect the series would mainly focus on and goes more in depth with the politics and various religions within the Federation. Instead of just focusing on a single ship exploring (or trying to get home) it focuses on an entire station at probably the most strategic location in the entire quadrant. Life on a space station is completely different compared to a starship. We've all heard about battles/wars that Starfleet has been involved with in the past but we never really got a chance to see what real warfare is like in Star Trek until DS9 came along with the Dominion War. It shows a darker side to the Star Trek universe and what complications Starfleet has to deal with to protect the Federation, including the existence of Section 31, the "unofficial" organization within Starfleet to get things done that Starfleet otherwise wouldn't be able to accomplish due to the values that the Federation stands for and holds so dear. Also a good portion of the episodes really tie in with each other one way or another instead of a whole new location and story per episode. I found it phenomenal with how they tied the Bajorans religion into the plot of the whole show. It truly showed us a whole different aspect of the Star Trek universe
It;s so funny how underappreciated DS9 was on it's release and now how it's enjoyed such an resurgence of appraisal amongst today's viewers. A lot of it is down to the change in audience. In this era of Game of Thrones, Walking Dead etc people want more anti-heroes, moral ambiguity, more complex, less heroic storylines. When looking back on the Star Trek franchise as a whole , DS9 ticks those boxes the most which is why it's being so championed now. Is this justified? Probably - especially from season 4 onwards, although this praise also has a element of because 'it's different' or 'i's an alternative' which doesn't always justify that a show is great.
I JUST finish watching this series on NETFLIX and it has become my FAVORITE show next to the X-Files. Man, it was beautiful. This show actually had me laughing out loud, crying tears...just perfect.
Gave me chills almost 20 years ago,and still does! But,the slower version, few seasons prior, not this speedy one... The greatest intro music off all times!😊❤😎 Greetings from Croatia, you Trek nerds😊
The more I watch these old footages the more I’m depressed about what has become of Star Trek today: A mere interchangeable, mediocre cinema sci-fi franchise. The 90s, when Star Trek was on the height of its popularity, feel so far away. And I don’t think it’s all just nitpicking about the reboot. It *is* quite a fundamental difference. And makes me almost wish they would have just let things be after _Enterprise_ and _Nemesis_ for good.
s4ndwichMakeR I thought the TNG era stuff in the 2009 movie was interesting, kind of wish the movie was another generations type thing with young Kirk helping Spock and old Picard fixing things
It has become even worse in the year since you wrote this comment: Discovery came out in the meantime, and its an absolute abomination everyone seems to love for some fucking reason. I was able to get behind the Kelvin-Timeline-Films, to be honest, but even I find DISC intolerable!
Schwatvogel STD actually has many many haters too. It's like war zone in Facebook's Star Trek page. I only watched 3 and half episodes and said F to it. I guess some people want to like it, since it's been so long since we had Star Trek series. It's really sad because I myself was really looking forward to see new Star Trek.
+Space Child you should probably give it another chance, it gets considerably better after a couple of episodes. Besides, Season 1 of TNG sucked. So did DS9's first season, for the most part. Don't forget that.
The french horn is indeed majestic in this, I used to play it a little, and it was an honor to do so but I wasn't good nor patient enough to advance much.
Best Trek show by a distance. The 7 year story arc was very ambitious and superbly realised, especially from then of season 2 onwards. Fun, action packed and deep; we still miss it.
Of all the series from the Trek franchise, this, and Voyager, were by far the two best opening titles. McCarthy won an Emmy for DS9's music and it is well-deserved. You can only fully appreciate this piece uncompressed and through a nicet sound system. Simply exquisite.
This is the most underrated of the Star Trek series. The one about this series is it took a while to get going, but once the dominion was introduced at the end of Season 2, the show finally found its footing, and then really took off after Worf came on board.
This intro beats them all. It's just so gentle but strong, as if to glorify mankind's achievements. How it pans around the station like that, showing what we can achieve as a species. THAT is the essence of Star Trek, and by God I love it!
Very simply the best, most fully realized series of all the Star Trek canon. I remember the first time I saw the first episode. I thought, "This is different: a conflicted central character put into a peace keeping operation? Wow!"
I loved when they changed the intro from the first few seasons. It really shows how DS9 is a central hub of different ships coming and going and more life around the station then it just being there.
I love the DS9 intro but the sped-up music in the latter seasons drives me up a wall. It sounds like everyone's in a rush to finish and the powerful theme gets no time to breathe.
It's incredible how much depth and development they bring to the characters but then it's like they just stopped existing. We're left wondering how their lives continue. By the last episode it felt they had become family.
I've been watching DS9 a lot and I noticed that there's actually two versions of this theme tune. One like this and another which just has a single trumpet/horn playing the main theme throughout. I've got to say I prefer the latter... more relaxing to listen to. Though maybe they changed it as the war with the dominion began.
One of the things I love about star trek scores is how perfect each one is to match each unique tone, characters, and vision the specific series creates. I can't see deep space 9's music laying over the next generation or voyager intro scenes. I can't see voyager and TOS swapping musical scores. Like or hate it, Faith in the Heart only works with Enterprise. And it's details like that which make star trek even richer for me.
By far my favorite trek series. this show had so many good episodes. the one where sisko had to watch jake die was one of the few scenes in any movie or tv show that made me cry. love it:)
One thing I always noticed about this opening, is the asteroid at the beginning has no trail until it starts moving. It's obvious the computer rendering started making the trail effect at the beginning of the clip, or it would be behind it the whole way.
I loved everything about this show, from the Odo and Quark relationship, to the character development of Garak and Gul Dukat and the root beer and self sealing stem bolts.
@Tuskin38 They updated the intro in season 4 to reflect the station's new status as a major hub bustling with activity, while the old slower theme reflect its isolation at the frontier of the federation.

I JUST finish watching this series on NETFLIX and it has become my FAVORITE show next to the X-Files. Man, it was beautiful. This show actually had me laughing out loud, crying tears...just perfect.
Wow, this video was uploaded 17 years ago! Hello from 2023
The best Star Trek ever...a crime it hasent been remastered
That was the most well made intro of all the Treks, the music, the graphics, and I still love the Defiant just zooming into the wormhole!
1 of star trek's best INTROS
Who else came here after the new episode Star Trek Lower Decks
It was such an exciting experience sitting down to watch new episodes of DS9 and TNG shortly after dinner.
Gave me chills almost 20 years ago,and still does!
But,the slower version, few seasons prior, not this speedy one...
The greatest intro music off all times!😊❤😎
Greetings from Croatia,you Trek nerds😊
OF ALL THE STAR TREK INTROS THIS IS THE BEST: BEST GRAPHICS, BEST INSTRUMENTATION, YOU NAME IT THIS IS IT, the dj
shed a tear to the ending of this series. Still believe jake has the best episode in the series.
And what episode is that?
Grubnar "THE VISITOR" season 4. Tell me what you think
Charlysnoox Ro. I remember that one. It is good. Tony Todd gives quite the performance.
Grubnar Tony Todd. , so that's his name :). I'm glad someone agrees with me. For the new series we need T'pol back :D. Im in love. :D
Charlysnoox Ro. Fun fact: He also played Kurn, the brother of Worf.
Where did they find a studio musician who could play the French horn so beautifully. it's one of the hardest instruments to play.
+Schwatvogel just dont
+Space Child you should probably give it another chance, it gets considerably better after a couple of episodes. Besides, Season 1 of TNG sucked. So did DS9's first season, for the most part. Don't forget that.
My childhood right here. I was always mesmerized by the visuals and music of this intro. 🖖
The brass just stands out like no other!! Sound so majestic don't it? I absolutely love it!!!
DS9 is great one of my favorite shows of all time; great actors, great characters and very heart warming.
This was my Star Trek. I regret nothing.
I get misty-eyed every time i hear this theme i love it (and star trek) so much😭😭😭
The ONLY show I ever saw that actually got BETTER over time.
The french horn is indeed majestic in this, I used to play it a little, and it was an honor to do so but I wasn't good nor patient enough to advance much.
Best Trek show by a distance. The 7 year story arc was very ambitious and superbly realised, especially from then of season 2 onwards. Fun, action packed and deep; we still miss it.
i could watch this intro over and over! It is the best one!
Of all the series from the Trek franchise, this, and Voyager, were by far the two best opening titles. McCarthy won an Emmy for DS9's music and it is well-deserved. You can only fully appreciate this piece uncompressed and through a nicet sound system. Simply exquisite.
Hey thanks so much for posting this beautiful piece of music combined with cool video!
This is the most underrated of the Star Trek series. The one about this series is it took a while to get going, but once the dominion was introduced at the end of Season 2, the show finally found its footing, and then really took off after Worf came on board.
the star trek themes were so good, could listen to this all day
Best Star Trek show hands down. And god I can't beleive it's been so long since it went off.I miss it a lot...that's why I bought every season on dvd.
I hope I live to experience this in my lifetime. It would be a dream come true to live in an age of space exploration like this
Star Trek DS9 is An All Time Classic. Great Episodes and the best of all the Star Trek Series.
I love the DS9 intro but the sped-up music in the latter seasons drives me up a wall. It sounds like everyone's in a rush to finish and the powerful theme gets no time to breathe.
The most spirited Star Trek series ever!
Very majestic music for a great space station hub and wonderful show. How I miss this so much.
I miss this show.
It's incredible how much depth and development they bring to the characters but then it's like they just stopped existing. We're left wondering how their lives continue. By the last episode it felt they had become family.
Me too
This theme is the best! Gives me goosebumps everytime love the bass drum!
My favorite ST theme, and it fit the series tone and seriousness.
And now this song shall be in my head for the rest of the evening.
Who would down vote this?!
so STD fan probably
the breen
people who like the earlier season’s version better
People who hate the Defiant.
Steven H the Dominon duh who else
Could not get into this series at first but as of Season 5 it turned me around on it and it became one of the best shows on TV at the time.
This was the best intro since the original series.
beautifully poetical. you have nice talent there :-)
There can be only be one.. this is the best intro of any Star Trek series
1:18 cool, nice to see welders are still needed in the future ;p
One of the things I love about star trek scores is how perfect each one is to match each unique tone, characters, and vision the specific series creates.
I can't see deep space 9's music laying over the next generation or voyager intro scenes. I can't see voyager and TOS swapping musical scores. Like or hate it, Faith in the Heart only works with Enterprise. And it's details like that which make star trek even richer for me.
By far my favorite trek series. this show had so many good episodes. the one where sisko had to watch jake die was one of the few scenes in any movie or tv show that made me cry. love it:)
There is no need to hate Enterprise to love the others :(.
All of the series had their own unique selling points.
While an amazing series, this has to be the best Star Trek intro to date.
One thing I always noticed about this opening, is the asteroid at the beginning has no trail until it starts moving. It's obvious the computer rendering started making the trail effect at the beginning of the clip, or it would be behind it the whole way.
So many good memories these series got me into the star trek universe!
Best Star Trek theme music! And it sounds really cool on a carillon.
This reminds me of so much more than just DS9!
This is one of the most epic musics ever, according to my opinion :-)
Creations like this should be distributed all over the Universe!
these later season intros made the station look more lively
i still remember when i cried at ds9 ending. this is so awesome, seems like its time for a rerun :)
I loved everything about this show, from the Odo and Quark relationship, to the character development of Garak and Gul Dukat and the root beer and self sealing stem bolts.
I cant get enough of it, priced at $140 a season on DVD, its incredible.... but I bought them :P cant live without it.
@Tuskin38 They updated the intro in season 4 to reflect the station's new status as a major hub bustling with activity, while the old slower theme reflect its isolation at the frontier of the federation.
Love this opening music. Great Trek series!
The best Trek of them all. I still miss this show.
Star Trek is a kickass show that is a huge part of our pop culture landscape
This is the best opening. I love the music.
