This takes me back to slow dancing at junior high school dances. Stylistics were amazing.
Asia & BJ, you'll LOVE their "Betcha by Golly, Wow", "You Make Me Feel Brand New" and "You Are Everything" !!!!!
The Stylistics are an American Philadelphia soul group from the 70's. They had a lot of great hits such as "Stop, Look, Listen", "You Are Everything", "Betcha By Golly, Wow", "I'm Stone In Love With You", "People Make The World Go Round", "You Make Me Feel Brand New", "Rockin' Roll Baby", "You'll Never Get To Heaven (If You Break My Heart)" etc.
Dagmar...you're name is now in my head cuz u say all the right things...yes on all those songs. Saw these guys in the early 2000s. I paid extra to pay in a front table. It was an intimate crowd of about 300...just incredible.
Betcha by Golly Wow!!! Love all their hits!!
And Let's Put It All together and I got a Letter...
very big in the early 70s.
Yes Stop, Look Listen is a must
This was called "The Sound of Philly"....One of my favorite groups as a teen in the '70s....
my faves are "you are everything" and "you make me feel brand new".
Absolutely my friend, grew up listening to this excellent music 🎶🎶🎶
Same here!
This beautiful love music is gone and will never be duplicated
Nope because its not just the music but how the generations thought and made the effort to love others.
It's still out there believe it or not.
Russell Thompkins has one of the best falsettos ever.
MAYBE THE BEST FALSETTO EVER ! HE WAS AND I THINK IS THEIR FEARLESS LEADER ! I THINK THE LAST I HEARD , THEY WERE , THE NEW STYLISTICS !
I agree.....but let us not forget about Eddie kendrick of the mighty Temptations
@@kolomo44 AND OF COURSE PHILIP BAILEY OF EARTH WIND & FIRE !
Or Johnny Wilder Jr. Of Heatwave
@@michaelwray4276 you have sick music taste❤🔥
Everyone listened to this song! This dude had such a great voice! So smooth! I really do miss the 70’s, when we listened to everything! Love it! Such memories! I miss being 17 just for the music!!❤️ thanks for the memories!
You're right! We listened to this song, James Taylor, Fleetwood Mac, Rolling 😅Stones, Stevie Wonder, on and on ... We were so lucky to be surrounded by great music 🎵🎶
The seventies were the greatest era of music across all genres of music. We listened to them all every day and loved all of it….
I agree that was the best music!! Heart and soul ❤️❤️❤️
I’m gonna put this group in my top five R&B groups of the 70s. Their music is so much a part of my life, all positive when I was in school in college. Their sound was Different and intoxicating. Love their music❤
They are a group from Philadelphia of which came a lot of great music. They called their music ‘ The sound of Philadelphia‘. TSOP❤
Definitely in my top 5. Stoned in Love...hard to beat that.
Yes, along with "The Dramatics, Temptations, and Spinners".
Absolutely they were one of my favorite groups in the early to mid 70's.
Yes, The stylistics, The dramatics, The spinners top three
70’s
Finally some ole school bangin r & b what memories!!👍👍
The Stylistics were pretty cool back in the day. This is one of those songs that you can't help but enjoy as someone else mentioned, "you make me feel brand new" is a GREAT song that you two would love a lot.
This song is total magic! Glad you reacted!
They were an amazing group. So many great songs.
Stylistics and the Spinners were my go to groups growing up...great music
The Philly-based soul groups were my faves growing up… they’re mentioned throughout this thread! Even the Mighty Spinners who were first in Detroit moved to the Philly sound with producer Thom Bell, and became legends!
Listen to the great blue-eyed soul artists like Tod Rundgren and Daryl Hall & John Oates… who also loved the Philly would of Stylistics, Delfonics, Chi-Lites… and others.
Listen to Hall &Oates “One on One” for an example… or Todd’s “Mated”.
Now you are cooking with Gas!!! This band was sensational. Huge in Dublin Ireland in the 1970s.
This was the era of candlelight soul , they were extremely popular during this period, '71 to '76
I grew up during the Motown days and it was the BEST!!! All these songs stand the test of time! This sound will never be replicated! Great memories whenever I hear this!
This is Philly Soul, not Motown.
@@Cosmo-Kramer I was referring to the era. But thanks for the correction.
@@kmac10-8 Well in that case, you got the era wrong, too. You see, the eras and the genres go hand in hand. *Motown was the '60s, and Philly Soul was the '70s.* Yes, it's true that the Motown label still existed in the '70s, but beginning in '69 it moved from Detroit to L.A. and became a mere skeleton of its former glory in the Motor City during the '60s. The other thing you seem confused about is the "sound"...as if Motown and Philly Soul shared "a sound". They don't. They are quite distinct.
One of the great soul groups of the 70's with lead singer Russell Tompkins Jr
Love that Philly sound. Stylistics, Spinners, O'Jays, Dramatics, and the Manhattans. Different from the Motown sound which was The Temptations, Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, Supremes, Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye. In Memphis you had Al Green, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Sam and Dave etc.The main difference between the three were the writing teams and the back up bands. All had their very own distinct sound. Motown was The Funk Bros, Philly was Thom Bell and Gamble & Huff while Memphis was Booker T and the MG's and The Bar Kays.
I was in grade school when this song came out. 6 years old or so. To this DAY I love the Stylistics and I am 57 now. Their song Betcha my golly wow is my fave❤ thanks for sharing your reaction to this song 😊
I am 57 also, I love the music in the 70’s ❤
I'll be 58 next month...
I have a sister who's 10 years older than me, so I was blessed with this and so much R&B Soul music from the 70s because she constantly had the radio playing...(107.5 WBLS)😂
Oh baby! My group of my teen years. When this song came on, you better grab someone close and start swaying and singing the lyrics. Many lonely nights sitting at the Berkely marina in my car listening to the Stylistics. Staring out across the bay at the San Francisco evening skyline, wishing my girl was with me. oooh that hurts. Love this band, love the great lyrics.
One of the greatest songs ever written. Nobody can sing it like The Stylistics. Released in 1972.
When I saw you were reacting to this, it became must see TV.
BJ, I knew Asia was going to love this.
Anyone that doesn't like this song has issues.🤔😮😊
Nice job as always
You can't go wrong with any song from the Stylistics. Beautiful music.
The voices just get into your soul. I kind of forgot about this song. Nice to hear it again. Perfect slow dance song.
My favorite group I’m originally from Pennsylvania and the sounds of Philadelphia will always remain the best soul music. ❤️
Ahh , the 70s ! enough said
Now we talking 😊 Stylistics 👏🏾👏🏾
Love these groups. All of them so unique. My Dad played this song often. I miss him. Great reaction. React to Champagne, " how about us."
i think this song is the very best of all the Philadelphian souls!!!
You’re definitely playing some great classic soul music tonight, love it, Thank You
Russell Thompkins Jr , the falsetto in the group ,is one of my Goats 🎤🎤🎤 what he did in You Make me feel brand new is iconic , legendary vocals.

Amazing beautiful R&B group
The Manhattans KISS AND SAY GOODBYE.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE The Stylistics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Stylistics were one of my favorite groups growing up in the 70’s. We had so many great R&B groups back then. Thanks for you take on this classic. Peace out ✌️
What a brilliant song by the stylistics. I love it. Doesnt get nearly enough credit!
I listened to that golden falsetto voice of Russell Allen Thompkins Jr. many times on many dates during my youth. These are songs of love and from the heart. The kind that make you fall in love all over again. Thanks for playing this one because I relate to it for a very personal reason. Sad but true. Rock on young bloods. If I could go back I would but you are only allowed to go around once in this life. I can relive it through both of you and your loving and soulful reactions. I send you all some love and a hug! We are paddling in the same boat on this journey called life.
These groups were so great. Man that falseto, wow. You will never see this kind of talent again. The song writers too They were musical geniuses.
You’ve opened a great big old box of goodness with The Stylistics!
Remember it well , great song. SMOOOOTH
Legendary group! I hope you dive deeper into their music.
70’s - they were a regular on the radio. ❤
this song was 1973 Stylistics were a philly's soul group,
Fabulous music
Love everything I have ever heard by the Stylistics.
“The Philly Sound “ gamble and huff this is the sound that influenced Hall and Oats along top with the temptations
Not the Temptations. They originated with Motown. They left for Philly with Thom Bell but returned to Motown.
I LOVE this song. Always loved the Stylistics. Still in my playlist.
I just find so it hard to believe that you guys never heard of these amazing groups like The Stylistics, Blue Magic and the Chi-Lite.. All of my kids was raised with this music. And it was way before there time. And Yes these songs are from the 70s
BJ you are right! This was the perfect slow dance during a fight song.
One of My favorite Groups in college!
The Stylistics were one of the groups that inspired the BeeGees when they were experimenting with their falsetto.
I know that I truly miss songs with that were true, deep, and committed to the person they were with. We need songs that are respectful and kind to the heart. And that is what makes the kind of relationship that last.
I remember older folks playing this song growing up! I still remember the words! A beautifully sad love song! This song was released in 1972!❤❤
Yep, now I'm one of those old folks 😂. Got married at 19 (both of us, met in HS) in 1972...but we're still together!
Pleas, please, please do more Stylistics. They are the best. Some of their best songs include "You Make Me Feel Brand New" and "You Are Everything."
This was a great song that brings back memories of the 70s.
Check out..I wont hold you back..by toto.
This song takes me back to the 80s.
Listened to lots of the classics while Deployed Overseas during the 70's, I guess that's why my a** was always homesick😂 #StoneColdClassic....Hooah!!👌

Was of the smoothest groups I ever heard.
Gloria is a great song by a group called enchantment-- you'll love this one too.
The Stylistics and Anthony and the Imperials are my favourites from the 60s and 70s
Another group very similar to the Stylistics was Blue Magic-Sideshow was their big hit but also three Ring circus and Stop to Start are worth a listen.Break Up To Make Up is from 1972 and is considered to be part of the Philly soul sound.
They never made a bad song there catalogue is off the charts 😊 this is my personal favourite but they have many many great songs
2 great songs from them also are "Children of the Night" & "Payback is a Dog."
You’re taking me back to high school on this one.
Such beautiful sound.
Another cool song by the stylistics is ya never get to heaven if you break my ❤ ....but this song is pure magic ✨✨💗
Philly Soul rules!
Featuring the amazing falsetto vocals of Russell Thompkins Jr. Check out their other hits like You Are Everything, Betcha By Golly Wow, You Make Me Feel Brand New.
Everything the Stylistics did sounded incredibly beautiful.
I think that you should react to Payback Is A Dog. The instrumentation on Break Up To Make Up is amazing and so is Payback Is A Dog. Break Up To Make Up is from The Stylistics second album titled “Round 2” released in late 1972.
The Stylistics absolutely brilliant loads of great songs.
Beautiful singers. 2 songs which are a must,
I can give you everything
You make me feel brand new
