Earth Wind and Fire is ICONIC. This group has been honored by the Kennedy Center for the Performing arts for its contribution to American music. Yeah, even though the brilliant Maurice White has passed. They will still fill the arena.

Maurice White has a voice that instantly takes me back to summers at the pool, late 1970s.. I was about 10 years old when this song came out and I spent my birthday money on this album.. Outstanding

I've seen them in concert 3 times...they are still great. They are older than my parents and have more energy than I will ever have! It's a total experience every time. One of the times I saw them they were doing a joint concert with Chicago where they each did their own sets, and then did some of their biggest hits together, and it was amazing. There was like 50 horns on the stage...it was majestic.

David Foster is the songwriter of this beautiful song... he's an absolute beast! David asked Maurice White from EWF to consider doing this song and literally that night they were in the studio recording it. If you want to see something really cool, search David Foster - After The Love Has Gone with Brian McKnight singing. No lie, it's even better than this!

The funny thing behind the story, David Foster and Maurice White were both in the studio writing songs. The song was Being written for the group “Chicago”. Dave Foster didn’t like the song Lyrics and threw in the trash can. Maurice White took it out the trash read t-he lyrics and ask David Foster can he have it. Of course, David Foster said “no problem”. Maurice produced it and made some small adjustments to the lyrics and the song went number one on the charts. What I found most interesting was David Foster never asked for any royalties from Earth wind & fire from the song’s success. Both Maurice and David were Lifelong friends and worked together on number of projects.

Per Songfacts In a interview with Verdine White of Earth, Wind & Fire, he said that this was one of the hardest songs for them to get right in the studio. "The track was based on a vibe," he said. "We cut it about six, seven times, and Maurice just said, 'No, it's not right yet. We'll come back and get it tomorrow. It's not right yet.' And then one day we nailed it, and it was right. The way it felt. It sounded like Earth, Wind & Fire."
Earth Wind & Fire has the honor of having three songs listed among the most-performed songs in the BMI catalogue of more than 3 million recorded works. "After The Love Has Gone" is their most-performed song with over 2 million performances. That is the equivalent of around 100,000 broadcast hours, or more than 11 years of continuous airplay. "September" and "That's The Way Of The World" have also had over 1 million United States radio and television performances.

    • @patrickschio3913

"September" is certainly their most famous song, but "After the Love has Gone" is definitely the group's best song, and when it comes to a group with music as excellent as EW&F, you can certainly expect nothing less than perfection

I saw them in the early 80's and it was an incredible concert. This was when they were in their prime. They brought the horns and multi-percussion, as well as amazing vocals. I have seen alot of rock shows, but this blew me away. That was quite the summer as I also saw Prince/The Time/Vanity 6, also an excellent concert. But EWF was in a league of their own, thats for sure. They later toured with Chicago, who was the perfect match as they were the same type of group, both with horns and multi-percussion, as well as just great musicians.

They are absolutely one of the greatest groups ever. I have seen them live three times. Last time was in 1996. Yep, I’m an old forker. Great music lives on forever. Unbelievable that the band was formed in 1969 and still has three of what is considered to be original members of the group. They have a long list of past members but continue to get quality replacements keeping their music alive. My daughter is 29 and loves EWF. She was exposed to them and Mother’s Finest at an early age. She has often said that she should have grown up in the 80’s (it was a great experience and perfect time for sowing your oats).

EWF is one of the bands that OWNED the 70's. White, Black, Purple, Whatever ... EVERYBODY loved EWF.
BTW BJ is right and they were AMAZING live, even better than their studio recordings, by a lot. Basically Maurice White's goal was to create the greatest live band in the world, which was huge (brass sections etc.). Checkout Reasons and Fantasy live in their prime. I believe it was a concert they performed at MSG back in the day? I saw them live BACK THEN ... amazing!

This was voted the Best Song of 1978, and it’s the gift that keeps on giving . Saw EWF at the Venetian Theatre in Vegas. When they do this song, they get casual, sitting on stools in a semi circle. They sing and the audience sings it back to them. It’s a beautiful moment.
They are ageless and timeless, and one of the most talented, musically tight groups I’ve ever seen live. What a Blessing. If you ever get a chance to see their show, don’t miss it, in fact, put it on your bucket list!

There is nothing like the R & B ballads of the 70 and 80s. I was 14 when this song was released. It was all over the radio for years.
I so enjoy watching you two experience these songs and groups for the first time. You make me love them even more. I’m grateful you picked videos with the lyrics. It helped me really hear the lyrics in a way I haven’t in years. The second time they sang “We were scared”, I I got tears in my eyes.

PLEASE try to see them in concert and yes, they do wear crazy costumes, tho not as varied as they once did. NO ONE sounds like them. OMG, you two really hit my heart, deep, deep, deep. I played this song over and over. In my car after my girlfriend of 3 years, broke up in our senior year in high school. Man, when I heard this song just now, all those tears, all those fears, all the memories of my very first Girl. We had it all back in the day. That line, "What used to be right was wrong....". I still this day feel that pain from so long ago. After High School, we still kept in touch. In her junior year in college, we met in San Francisco for lunch and that drive back across the bay she told me she never wished we broke up. Man oh man, she was my kryptonite. I miss her still. Love love, Earth, Wind and Fire. They were our band throughout high school. Ugh!!!!

They are still touring! I saw them last month with Lionel Richie. It was a freaking party🎉🎉
I’ve seen them in concert 5 times (I’m 34 now) and will continue to watch them live whenever they’re in my city. Their orchestra is legit and Philip Bailey’s vocals are 🔥🔥🔥

This was my Ma and Daddy's song. I remember being a toddler and watching them dance in the kitchen to this song. I'm 51 years old now, and I lost Daddy in 2004 and Ma in 2009. This song still takes me back to my childhood. Please react to Earth Wind & Fire's song Shining Star. That was the song that Daddy would pick me up and dance around and sing to me when I was little. Also The Way Of The World another special song between me and Daddy. Earth Wind & Fire is the first music I remember, ever. Our house had 4 generations of fans, my Gran, my parents, me and sibs, our kids....and now my granddaughter falls asleep to her dad (my son) singing those songs to her. They are iconic, multi-generational, and amazing.

The last time I saw Earth, Wind and Fire was several years ago and they were touring with Chicago. I thought that it would be a strange combination but they made it work. It was a phenomenal concert experience.

I have seen them live twice, the first time was in the late 70’s and part of the group was the female Group The Emotions. The costumes and their set was amazing!

I went to Earth Wind & Fire's concert for the very album this song was on. 1979. The album and the tour was 'I Am'. Maurice White and Philip Bailey were the voices of the group. And if you look at all of the albums you will see their names credited as All Vocals by Maurice White and Phillip Bailey. They had in my opinion, the best horn section of that era hands down. And that was during the time of Kool and the Gang, KC and the Sunshine Band, the Commodores and Cameo all had top tier horn sections. They have been and will always be my favorite 'Soul' band. Pay respect to the elements. Earth Wind & Fire. :)

Maurice White passed away a few years ago but I don’t think he was still touring with the band when he was still here. Earth Wind and Fire were so, so good. So many great albums, especially the earliest ones which are raw and funky. Love your reactions to the song. ⭐️

Whenever my wife does something to annoy me, I start singing the chorus of this song. 🤣 It cracks us up every time. Yeah. We old. Another great track from them with a similar vibe/groove is That’s the Way of the World.
