I'm reminded of how fortunate I am to have grown up in the 70's and 80's. Lots of amazing music.
I love the vocals of Michael MacDonald. Check out his "I Keep Forgetting" from his solo career.
Great recommendation!
Yeah, esp when they’ll recognize the heavy sample of it in Warren G “Regulate”. There’s a great mash-up [Jammin Remix] by DJ EkSel
That song is amazing, Jeff Porcaro’s drumming on that track is beautiful too
They reacted to I Keep Forgetting months ago. It's one of their best reactions. They were crazy on it! You should look it up.
@@michaelblaydes2259 I was going to check and see if they had, but quite honestly, I kept forgetting.
I'm 61 and watching you 2 diggin' on the Doobies makes me realize (although I always knew) that I grew up surrounded by the BEST MUSIC EVER.
randallmccoy8581: Damn right !!!
From someone 10 years your senior.
I'm 52, and I couldn't agree more.
I grew up surrounded by music, everything from classic rock to gospel, and the Doobie Brothers were not excluded.
@@mrmusic248 ...Try 75! I'm jiggling and twerking in my chair hearing this again. Robert, uk.
This 60 year old loves seeing young folks discovering our music.
I've never seen BJ so animated in my life. Great to see it.
He loves him some Michael McDonald
Exactly it was nice to see him grooving so beautifully to an amazing song❤❤❤❤❤
the one and ONLY michael and that SOULFUL voice he was blessed with. if i could here just one voice he would be it.ROCK ON
i would take robert plants voice but Michael has a good one
The 70's were packed full of feel good music. What a time. :)
Back when they first became a hit any journalist who interviewed them would eventually ask if they were really brothers. They would always answer with "We don't be related, but we do be brothers"!!
Top marks 👏👏
doobie is a 70 s slang for a joint ! so the name doobie brothers means weed smoking homies
Hightly recommend - Doobie Brothers "Takin it to the Streets /Jesus is Just Alright" LIVE Sta. Barbara 1982
the underrated thing on this one is the lyrics. Everyone knows about his voice and all that but the clever turns in the lyrics really take it up a few notches - "trying hard to recreate what had yet to be created" for example is GOLD.
Remember, Michael co wrote this Kenny "Danger Zone" Loggins
This song won the Grammy for “Song of the Year”, I believe…
This song won the Grammy for “Best Song”, I believe..It was a HUGE HIT
@@djdoc06 One thing I love about this song is that it's sympathetic to her point of view, too, like she's feeling awkward but still being polite. And it doesn't blame her for his fixation; it just acknowledges that it's a thing, and it hurts him, and it's no picnic for her either. Really fantastic songwriting!
What a fool believes to be is always better than nothing...than nothing at all. OMG
The Doobie Brothers are an American rock band that have been around for 5 decades. They covered many genres of music over the years. They had so many great songs such as "What A Fool Believes", "Listen To The Music", "Jesus Is Just Alright", "Long Train Runnin'", "China Grove", "Black Water", "Takin' It To The Streets", "The Doctor", "It Keeps You Runnin'", "Echoes Of Love", "You Belong To Me", "Take Me In Your Arms" etc.
I think everyone knew that, and you left out Minute By Minute. 🙂
Remember they made a special appearance on the “what’s happening now” tv show! 👌😂👍
Yup, I remember the show. Funny
Real Love @@craigedwards2940
"What A Fool Believes" ruled the radio back in 1979. Michael McDonald also lent his signature vocal skills to the classic 1977 Steely Dan tune "Peg". He also wrote "You Belong to Me" which became a top ten hit for Carly Simon in 1978.
also....don't forget Kenny Loggins.....Michael and Kenny did alot together
He also had a hit with Patti LaBelle
@@jamminjim44 This one for example
💯🎵🎶🎵🎶
Listen to Christopher Cross' "Ride Like The Wind"
Michael McDonald's voice is amazing! He does a duet with Patti Labelle that is so freaking good. On My Own is the name of the song.
He also sang background on Steely Dan's "Peg"
I loved his duets with the late James Ingram.
I was about to strongly suggest that one..Fantastic duet!
On My Own, I love that song
Yes I agree 👍💯
The Doobie Brothers "Jesus Is Just Alright"...A Must Hear Classic.
First off, BJ's reaction was hilarious, loved it, as for the Doobies what can I say, they are an outstanding band, I love their music!
You immediately know Michael's voice as soon as you hear it...it's that distinctive. Great reaction, as always.
In 1980 "What A Fool Believes" won the Grammy for Song of the Year (lyrics and music) and Record of the Year (recording, arrangment and production). The more you dive into the lyrics, you'll realize what a DEEP song this is! BTW: This song made my mother fall in love with lead singer Michael McDonald and she's had a crush on him since! 😄
popular songwriting at a master level, how they build up that melody toward the chorus is pure gold.
Check out lead singer Michael McDonald's song with James Ingram, "YAH MO BE THERE". Yes, that's the title. Just take my word for it!
Phenomenal!
Michael and James did another song with David Pack (from Ambrosia) called “I Just Can’t Let Go”… smooth as silk and soooo good! It has a nice little sax solo, too. And Michael and James did “One Gift” on one of Michael’s Christmas albums. It’s so good I listen to it all year round….
it's cool to hate on Yah Mo Be There, but I LOVE THAT SONG
and how can you go wrong with James Ingram and Michael McDonald together???
ruclips.net/video/HQ1nvhLf1EU/видео.html
@@lesliesterling826 I LOVE it too, but the title might look odd to those who don't know about it. That's what I meant.
My daughter found this album in my vinyals a few years ago and got obsessed with Minute by Minute, that's another great one
The whole album Minute by Minute was gold. Grammy winner
ABSOLUTELY!!
Michael McDonald is an amazing talent. His voice is one of a kind, and man of many talents including songwriting and keyboard! Always love listening to him.
Michael McDonald is so good with the Doobies, but then he went solo and really took off there too.
More Doobie Brothers tunes to check out: Black Water, Listen to the Music, China Grove, Give Me The Beat Boys, Takin' It To The Streets, Jesus is Just Alright...
It's a deep dive, jump in 😎
The Doobie Brother's are a national treasure. Every day easy listening music for everyone. 🤗
So glad to see y’all listening to the Doobies! One of my favorite songs from a favorite group
God this is so much a part of the soundtrack of my early teens. Great shit even today, it's just timeless. 💜💚💛✌️
I am 73 and my generation had the best 🎵 music.
Yes , i remember buying this album when it first came out 1979 .
I LOVE watching younger people discover the music I grew up with. No cultural boundaries imposed, just pure wonderful jams and people enjoying talent. 😁
This is the music of my era and it warms my heart to see you guys enjoy it as much as I do.
The Michael McDonald effect! I will say “Listen to the music” is in my top favs of theirs too! Also, please check out their song “I keep forgetting.” Can’t remember if we did either of these LIVE or not..🤔. Those lives get so crazy! 😆. In a good way....💖💙👍✌️
Two great songs, absolutely
I also like "How Long"
Probably the best Doobie Brothers song. They were winning multiple Grammys at this point. Glad you guys enjoyed it.
Real Love
HUGE crossover hit. First time most black folks heard Michael McDonald. played on ALL the black stations
Such a timeless, upbeat groove juxtaposed against tragic lyrics about fooling oneself into thinking a relationship existed when it did not. Masterful songwriting!
You could loop that all day and I'd be just fine with it. My favorite Doobies song.
Love the band. Black water is a fantastic song. Can never go wrong with this band. Also Crosby ,Stills ,Nash is great trio band ( Helplessly hoping ) .
Black Water is at the top of my Doobie Bros. list! Give it a try!
Add Neil Young and you have CSNY . Deja Vu is my favourite album 😊
Not surprised Mike McDonald rec'd 5 Grammy Awards. Thankfully he & Doobie brothers inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame 2020. He's a terrific singer!
I'm surprised I have feet. Literally danced my way through the 60s and 70s. So many GOOD groups !! Won a s'load of money doin' it too !! Contests in bars & clubs everywhere !!
Michael sings with amazing soul and his powerful voice is soo great and unique! He grew up listening to Motown and did two albums with those hits. Check out his rendition of Stevie Wonders All Is Fair In Love. His solo career is also deep
Doobie Brothers are a great band you two are a great couple fun to listen to Thanks for all y'all do
The Doobie Brothers were a collection of incredible artists and then….Along came Michael McDonald and vaulted them into superstardom. Definitely in the top 10 bands in American history.
such an awesome song. cleverly written and has a great vibe.
Just remember, Kenny Loggins wrote this song 🙂
This is one of those where the producers in the studio had to have been thinking, "Yep. This is a stone cold hit."
First album I ever bought when this released as a young boy. I loved the Doobies & glad to see newer generations appreciate them too. 1979 was the end of disco and "New Wave" alt rock was entering the picture along with Punk as well. Great times back then with incredible music.
this was a great song. just rolling down the street.....6 guys blowing our minds
1970s hits were quite amazing, and this is one of my faves....you can't get music like that any more. Love it. 👍🤗🤪
If you wan to go to church with the Doobies, Jesus Is Just Alright is a must 👍🏻
That’s actually a Byrd’s song
The grown folks dance! Love it! Peace and blessings.
What a voice, I get carried away every time he sings, he's just awesome.
I just LOVE the Doobie Brothers, thanks so much for playing this song. We even called our daughter’s pacifier a doobie.
❤🤣😂
Their harmony puts chill down my spine!
the chord changes are masterful
Doobie Bros always jam! Very soulful! So glad you guys like them! They were forever classic! And your right their vocals were awesome! Long train running is my favorite song!
Michael's voice is unmistakable....!
🔥🔥🔥🔥. Great voice, rich voice, great sound one of the greatest songs ever. Mike is one of the greatest singers ever. 🎉🎉🎉
This song gives me Saturday afternoon in the park family BBQ vibes!💯
I saw Michael Mcdonald live in Atlanta about 5 years ago, 40 years after the original recording he sounded better than ever. It was unbelievable.
I still play this album several times annually for over 40 years. It's a classic. Good music never fades.
Takes me back to a wonderful time in my life.Carefree,no worries,no commitments. Its called being a teenager !
The entire album is fantastic.
I think you will like this by the Bee Gees Words
Yeah, you guys might like Minute by Minute from this record
The Doobie Brothers were always badass back in the late 1970s
They should be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame already!!!! Why not???
Singer Michael McDonalds voice is pure gold please check out his song I Keep Forgetting from his solo days its a must!
Your channel is musical therapy. I always feel so much joy watching your reactions. Bless you both!
I saw this great group in the summer of 1979. It was incredible, loved every minute of it. I am not a vocal expert, but I have heard other more expert like fans talk about MIchael McDonalds voice and how much talent it takes to go as high and low as he does in one song. It is my favorite song also!!!
Those harmonys are killer. This was on the radio a lot when I was a little kid.
That was a nice thing to hear "If nobody told you, I love you". You are amazing for reaching out to your audience with that type of realness, Thank You & God Bless 😇🥰
This song was actually REMIXED for the discos at the time. Smooth, good bassline and catchy vocals. Yes…….this had HIT written all over it!
There’s also a version with Kenny Loggins and Michael… they totally changed it up and it sounds awesome! It’s on Kenny’s album “Outside: From The Redwoods”, a special that he did. The video is really good too.
Funny watching you find a cool song that I've been listening to for 43 years now! Ha-Ha.
This music that I grew up with is why I am forever trapped in my youth..!! It brings tears to my eyes remembering the good old days..!! Long live the 70's & 80's..!!
I wish I could recreated the feeling of listening to this for the first time again
Y’all got it goin on, no doubt. I’ve been so blessed to have lived in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, and beyond! 🙏🏻
I think Asia might just bust a move.Michael McDonald is phenominal. The production is magnificent.Whether its lead singer ,Background, or playing keyboard the man adds flavor to whatever he does.
They're a legendary force 👍😊 Check out Doobies, "Black Water," and "Jesus is Just Alright With Me." You won't be disappointed...Also, Michael McDonald and Patti labelle, "On My Own." It will blow your mind. 🙏 Love you two 💕
"Ever Changing Times" by Aretha Franklin and Michael McDonald, is another good song.
"Listen to the Music" is a great song...!
There's no such thing as a bad Doobie Brothers song..they are all great stuff!👍
The lyrics are worth a read. It's a deep message.
He came from somewhere back in her long ago
The sentimental fool don't see
Trying hard to recreate what had yet to be created
Once in her life, she musters a smile for his nostalgic tale
Never coming near what he wanted to say
Only to realize it never really was
She had a place in his life
He never made her think twice
As he rises to her apology
Anybody else would surely know
He's watching her go
But a fool believes he sees
The wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be
Is always better than nothing
And nothing at all keeps sending him
Somewhere back in her long ago
Where he can still believe there's a place in her life
Someday, somewhere, she will return
She had a place in his life
He never made her think twice
As he rises to her apology
Anybody else would surely know
He's watching her go
But a fool believes he sees
The wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be (if love can come and love can go, then why can't love return once more?)
Is always better than nothing
(Who got the power?)
There's nothing at all (oh, now)
But a fool believes he sees (I believe she's never gone away)
The wise man has the power
To reason away (to reason away)
What seems to be (oh, if love can come and love can go, oh, mama)
Is always better than nothing (better than nothing)
And nothing at all (oh, I believe)
I can’t wait to see all these guys in June. I have had my tickets since 2020. Damn Covid ruined their 50th anniversary for these guys which was back in 2020 oh well!
You know, it always does my heart good to see younger generations feel how I felt when I first heard The Doobies Bros especially Michael McDonald! Just makes you want to keep dancing & smiling! ❤
BJ's reaction made me sooo happy. ☺️ It's the way I felt in 1979 when I heard it.. (Michael McDonald's voice is like melting butter...🔥🧈)
Grammy and 1979 Song of the Year! Love it!
I love that you youngins are digging the music we grew up with. It was great then and still holds up today! Love it, Enjoy
Taking it to the streets is awesome to react to!
This is what you call cruisin' music. Just rollin' down the road with the windows down and the tunes pumpin'. What a ride!
When this gem of a song was released I was in the 4th grade and had it on a 45 rpm which I wore out from playing it over and over again yes it’s the kind of song you want to repeat. 🙏🏽✌🏽❤️
Michael Mc Donald . I Keep Forgetting . That’s the song you need to listen to next
It Keeps You Running and Minute By Minute are my faves, but they have soooooo many great songs.
Michael McDonald is amazing. He did a few songs with Steely Dan also. Rock on all.
If this song doesn’t make you dance, there’s something wrong with you. Love it!!
1970s soulful and groove music coming from the positive and creative virtue of goodness in their hearts. If you lived thru this era and seen these bands play, you know...
Damn, that took me back to parents being young again. Rock'n this to the radio in cars with handles for the windows. Take me back to that era!!
One of my all time fav 70s songs. Love the Doobie Brothers!! Michael McDonald is a legend..
This is one of my favorite Doobie Brothers songs.
I am 59 and seeing you guys enjoy music from back in my day....LOVE IT
Their delivery is both honest and joyful. It's clear they love what they do, and that they're masters of their craft.
You nailed it! This was popular in the spring of 1979, last year of the disco era, and my senior year in h.s. Love the Doobies, but Michael McDonald really adds another whole level to their music.
LOVE your reaction! This IS classic and a GREAT jam!!!💗
This song is frequently my earworm. Love Michael & the Doobies! Heard them first in 1972 on an amazing stereo from a girl in my apartment complex. Also introduced me to Joni Mitchell. Friends for life! 🎶💙🎶💙🎶💙
I remember being like 6 years old in the late 70,s listening to this in the back seat while my mother was driving.
I'm instantly a little kid dancing around the living room listening to the radio....one if my favorite songs ever for life!
I remember seeing them on the tv show What’s Happening back in the day great band
LOVE your head bobbing, dude!! lol. I first heard this song when I was a college freshman, it rocked my world. Age 63 today, still head bop like you EVERY time I hear it. Mike's voice is surreal!!
There was a funny episode of What’s Happening in the late 70s where they all got to go see the Doobie Brothers and meet them back stage and Rerun shakes their hand and says “which Doobie you be?” Lol
I was born in 1971, mum played doobie bros records and I da nced around the room as a kid. still dance around the room to this song to this day in 2023 as a 52 old kid. so Good! I agree with BJ this song should go a little longer. oh fuck it. Just play it again!
Ya’ll are living in the rabbit whole with the rest us old timers🤣 No this is classic rock 😎
