Goosebumps and melancholy tears listening to her. Plus 70s childhood memories. It's also nice to see people slow dancing.
Gladys Knight sang with a beauty and passion that will never be surpassed - sheer glorious talent by a very classy lady ! 💜
And she STILL does. 😉
The natural beauty in the day was stunning.
Yes,,fan of all her music
Love Gladys since 1973 still on every playlist I make
They don’t sing like this today. She just SANG. It’s not overproduced. Just gorgeous.
Gladys knight is a goddess. Her voice powerful and golden. A true icon. Legend.
Gladys is still touring! I saw her a few years ago and she didn’t miss a beat! Her voice is still as strong and beautiful! Truly the Queen!
I saw her and the O'Jays together in concert in 2015.
Beautiful as she and voice is Aretha is the queen of soul
At one time she also had a Las Vegas residency.
She was on the first season of the Masked singer and sounded great. Many fans of hers who follow that show like myself wish she would release her version of each song she sang on the show
My Mom used to say that Gladys Knight has the most soulful voice of any singer ever.
Gladys Night is one of the most underrated singers in history. She's up there with Aretha, Barbra and Whitney.
I would personally put her ABOVE those three... for me, there is Gladys, Karen Carpenter, Patsy Cline and???
Whitney ? Try Donna and Linda or even Patti her other contemporaries , Houston is not the same category .
Mavis takes 'em all.
@@tomschmitz261 Say Whaaaaat??? With all due respect, I disagree. Gladys and Aretha are def top 2. The heart wrenching emotion that comes through their voices, and their effortless vocal skill -- they just do it for me. Check out "Angel" by Aretha -- one of my favs.
@@Hexon66 Love her too. Just pure soul! Chills when listening.
Gladys Knight and Pips didn't get the attention they needed from Motown Records. They do (another) great version of " I Heard It Through Grapevine". They signed with Buddah Records, and things changed. Starting with this song, which was recorded on the Motown Label, they had 5 top 5 hits on the Pop charts in 73/74. 4 with Buddah, which was the same amount of top 10s they have with Motown form 61-72. Midnight Train to Georgia, On and On, Your the Best Thing that Ever Happened to Me, I've Got to Use My Imagination. Along with If I Were You're Woman and I Feel A Song In My Heart Again which are gems in their catalog.
Completely agree! She was competing with Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick etc. and in my opinion she has the most beautiful voice out of all of them! She's truly a classic!
It's amazing that she got a variety show and had the notoriety but never got the big record deal and promotion as a single artist that others did. Truly a misjudgment on the industry's part.
Oh my goodness this song always makes my hair stand up on the back of my neck... Gladys Knight's voice is like no other ...
Hi Shawn and Mel, wasn't that so beautiful? Gladys Knight sang like an angel. She and the Pip's are one of my top ten favorite Motown artists of all time. Have you heard Midnight Train to Georgia? I love that one too. Did you notice all the couples slow dancing around the stage? I got tears in my eyes watching that. You never see couples slow dancing like that anymore, with the man holding the woman so tenderly and with respect. It breaks my heart when I see the way performers are dancing today on videos and television. I have been to wedding receptions where young girls are out there copying moves and they do not have a clue what those moves represent. I wish people would dance with respect and caring again. I love dancing and Soul Train had the best dancers on tv.
I loved both of your faces as you listened to this beautifully emotional song. This was THE best era of music, ever! Loved Gladys Knight and the Pips. ❤
The Pips are Gladys's cousins. Need to do Midnight Train To Georgia.
Such a beautiful voice from a beautiful woman. LOVE her. ❤️
They just don't make em like this anymore, not even close. Elegant. Soulful. Beautiful. Storytelling. What a class talent, to me one of the absolute finest singers of the 70s or any decade. Sheer brilliance.
Love this one, but my favorite of theirs is "If I were your woman". Please react to this!
Gladys is in a class by herself. Admit it, the Pps are are freaking amazing too.
Gladys is one of the greatest singers in music history, she's just terrific.
100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 100%!!!
a gem here. absolute gem.
Nobody sings like her. I would buy a ticket to hear her singing the alphabet. Props to the late Jim Weatherly, who wrote this and other Gladys Knight hits including "Midnight Train to Georgia" and "The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me."
You know how great actors make you forget that they're acting? That's the effect that singers like Gladys cause - the connection is that direct, and there's not a fraudulent note to be heard.
The way she sings this song sends me into melancholy and wistfulness like no other song does. The little "cry" or crack in her voice when she hits higher notes; the plaintive lyrics; and just her bare soul gets me every time I hear this classic tune. Thanks for reacting to it!
Love, love, love Gladys Knight & The Pips -slow dancing time & tears 💗😪 Still have many of their record albums, will be singing i this all day now !! This is a rabbit hole to check out ☮️😻🇨🇦
I used to play this song to make me cry when my wife and I split up. Such a beautiful voice and song, My generation was blessed with awesome music. Love you guys, keep em coming ♥️♥️
Such a sad but pretty song. And Gladys's voice is as beautiful as she is. Music today can't touch the music of the 70's and 80's
They really don't have music today. All they have is oversampled mix tracks stealing snippets of yesterday's music. The age of the music artist died somewhere in the mid 90's.
The woman just oozed soul. Thank you .
I saw this as a girl! My friends would watch American Bandstand but I liked Soul Train! The depth of emotion along with those marvelous pipes makes Gladys an icon and the Pips were smooth as silk baby! Thank you for sharing. 😽💋🎶
My sisters, I'm the youngest, use to switch between American bandstand and Soul Train any given Saturday. Good times for sure
@@samueltabo3390 Why did you have to switch? Soul train came on after American Bandstand ended. We watched them both , one after the other on ABC was Bandstand, Soul Train was on CBS. Soul Train was originally on an all Chicago network, but after it gained in popularity, it became an affiliate of CBS,I believe.
You hit the nail on the head Mel....no one else can do this ultimate breakup song justice like Gladys Knight and the Pips.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Her performance is stunning, she sings with so much soul and passion. You feel it
I’m 65 and I’m so glad I grew up in the 60s/70s with this music. This must be nearly 45 years old,I wonder how many songs nowadays will still be played in 45/50 years time.
Glady's Knight is the G.O.A.T (Legendary)
I just love Gladys Knight you need to listen to all of her songs Midnight Train to Georgia used to make me cry
Finally, you guys reacted to my favorite Gladys Knight & the Pips.
YES !! This is music my friends.👍
Another classic soul tune!❤🙂 Empress of Soul legend Gladys Knight does it again!🫡💐 Great performance. So much conviction in her singing.
Never got the props she deserved, she one of the best female vocalist in the world!!!!
I’m glad you love them as much as I do. They have a very deep catalog and you can’t go wrong with any picks
This is definitely one of the saddest and most beautiful songs ever recorded. Hit me hard during a breakup a few years back
Gladys Night and The Pips nothing but class.
Prime evidence of why Gladys is crowned "Empress of Soul." All life long!!!
Gladys Knight and The Pips are American music icons. Gladys sang the National Anthem at the Superbowl not too long ago
I always appreciated Gladys Knight's singing talent. She also is beautiful.
A list of the top singers must include Gladys Knight. This song is just vocal and emotional perfection
She is my absolute favorite female singer of all time.
Gladys knight such a beautiful voice. I've been listening to them since I was a child. I'm 64 now. What a voice
Great tune written by Jim Weatherly, who also wrote "Midnight Train to Georgia". Gladys Knight and the Pips brought life to Weatherly's fabulous melodies and lyrics.
this was when music was music and slow dancing was slow dancing!! Miss all I grew up with, happy you 2 are truly enjoying your
⭐⭐⭐🤩⭐⭐⭐
You will never see talent like this again
This group are like heavenly bliss
Australia 💕 Christina
I love your reaction my dude. You can see her touching your soul with her words. Real men have feelings. And it shows how strong you feel for your woman by how hard it hit home. Respect
she does My Life Story if you ;d like to go down that rabbit hole. a few really great tunes there.
I have always been such a fan of Gladys Knight-she is so good!
I'm 71 and this song still brings tears to my eyes! Beautiful lady, The Empress of Soul!
Black music legends....them damn Pips was so smooth with them steps too....great reaction!
All these great tunes. Great artists. Welcome into our once was the best era's of music. Lots and lots of diamonds in the roughs. If that make sense. I'm so glad and oh so so proud to say this our growing up music.
Gladys is the Queen. My friends in the 70s listened to rock radio stations but I would listen to soul/Motown stations. The music was better and I still love the sound. Thanks for the reaction. Much love and respect.
This One Will Hit You Different,,
Oran "Juice" Jones "The Rain" (Official Music Video)
One of my mom’s favorite songs. I heard it a lot growing up. Also Angie Stone sampled this for her song “My Sunshine” .Another great one by Gladys is “Help Me Make it Through The Night”.
Dionne Warwick said that Gladys voice was a God voice. TOUCHED by God.
Love your reactions. This was a tear jerker when it came out. Gladys Night voice is like warm butter. I saw Shawn's face as he heard the lyrics. You are myfavorite couple.
Glades Knight and Roberta Flack slayed every song they ever stepped up to the mike to sing...🎙
The Pips were just as talented as Gladys was back then with their smooth steps and singing.
Gladys Knight is a legend and GK and The Pips were major players of Motown
She is SOO TALENTED with a beautiful voice and on top of it all she is beautiful too ! And midnight train to Georgia is probably her best
Another great song from them is I feel a Song in my Heart Again. Awesome women's
Her raw, authentic and soulful voice cuts to the bone. Pure artistry
AH YES!!!! The good ol' days of MOTOWN!!!! You young folks don't know what you missed!!!!
Thank you, thank you for reacting to this great song by Gladys Knight & The Pips. This was a monster hit back in the day. Her voice has so much emotion and you can feel her heartache singing this song. Love this. ❤️
Shawn and Mel, I have watched many and liked all of your song reactions to white bands and singers. And being a 61 year old white male, I chose "Neither One of Us" by Gladys Knight as my first of you two reacting to a African American band as this song brings back so many childhood memories that when i hear it, i get emotional and get teary eyed. I just love the old Motown songs that came on the radio back in the day before there ever was a HIP HOP and RAP genres. Songs had so much meaning and so much cleaner than the smut our new generation is listening to nowdays. Anyway, I also loved, and still love, "Midnight Train to Georgia" and the Pips back there killed it with the train toots. What happened to the music of those wonderful days? I miss them so much.
You've just heard one of the classic voices in music history. A true American masterpiece. Back when every song was "performed"!
Excellent choice guys. Gladys us truly one of a kind.
PLEASE In Honor & Memory Of Both These Music Icons,, His Tribute To Marvin Gaye,, Robert Palmer "Mercy Mercy Me/ I Want You" (Official Music Video)...R.I.P. Marvin & Robert 🙏 ❤
Gladys Knight has one of the strongest voices in music!!!! She is in the 70´s and her voice is still as strong as the first she picked a mike!!! Patti Labelle should be very high on your list of powerful black women singers, too!!!
Gladys Knight..a gift to us. 🌹
Danced to this a zillion times. Gladys is beautiful and that voice...angelic. I think one of the Pips is either her brother or her cousin. Sorry,, can't remember. Please react to Midnight Train to Georgia and If I was your Woman, which will floor you!
Lady Gladys is, was and will always be THE GOAT! Thanks for reacting to this.
Yes please check out more of Gladys try "I've got to Use my Imagination" The live version!
The clarity of her voice building to a crescendo...the lyrics.
If you hear this song and don't get misty-eyed, you have no heart or soul!
Empress Gladys....LOVE her....and by the way, her Licence to Kill (James Bond theme) is one of the BEST...imho...
I saw her live about 10 years ago - it was on my bucket list, and I wasn't disappointed.
This was their LAST hit song before they left MOTOWN (GORDY). Their next album was for their new BUDDAH records contract....
Everyone knows how great Gladys is.
Going to see her in concert in s few weeks, just can't wait
My fave Gladys Knight song. She is awesome.
First time listening to Glady's?...I feel for you...man, where ya'll been?
Great memories from my teen years in this song.First loves and that angst of saying bye and moving on.
She actually discovered Micheal Jackson and his brothers but gets no credit. She's one classy singer. Beautiful song.
Wow! Gladys’ voice is amazing! She is always going to be Auntie Gladys to me! No one can ever match those golden vocals! That voice gets you in the heart every time! ❤️❤️
A MUST HEAR Classic,,
Rose Royce "I'm Going Down"
TRUST ME!!
They were very young when they began, and time caught up with them.Tony
What a queen. I got to meet her once in a business meeting. She was a queen there, too. Lovely, kind, smart, in charge, just special.
No words , absolutely amazing and beautiful Gladys
Just a voice from Heaven.
How could you not love this passionate song.
Gladys is the only one that can put her soul into this.
I just love love love this song,
In my humble opinion, Gladys Knight is the greatest female soul singer ever, including Aretha Franklin. Please, please check out "The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me," it's a much more positive and uplifting song and can be applied to many relationships: husbands & wives, mothers & daughters... Also, she absolutely killed a duet with Boys II Men "End of the Road." Thankfully, she is still with us and was on tour last year. Hers is one of those voices that get better with age. Thank you for that reaction, guys.
There's so many hits with Gladys Knight & The Pips. You can't go wrong with their music.
"You're the Best Thing that ever happened to me"
She's my favorite female singer...
That girl can SANG!!
Whatever way you look at the 70's was a superb period for soul music, a sad song, delivered to perfection. Sing it Gladys ♥
ya'll have to listen to you're number one in my book, Glady's Knight and the Pips
I love Gladys Knights Voice! She is Absolutely Amazing ! ❤️ This song is so heartbreaking though.
The perfect song
She's my favorite soul singer she should of been up thire number one
Gladys Knight and the pips : midnight train to Georgia, I heard it through the grapevine, if I were your woman, help me make it through the night, you’re the best thing that ever happened to me
