    Good video Ron. The fungicide in Caravan G is azoxystrobin which works well on brown patch and other diseases, but not dollar spot. Also, you need to rotate fungicide classes so that you do not develop resistance issues. A good rotation would be Headway G which contains two different fungicide groups, group 11 azoxystrobin and group 3 propiconazole.

      Thanks for making the point about rotating fungicides lambert1702. It’s not something I’ve done but certainly makes sense. Good call on Headway G which has an active ingredient specifically for dollar spot. 👍😎

      Love it Wize Guy. There are definitely worse things than spending time in your lawn regularly. Fungus and grub worms are especially nasty. I've dealt with both in my lawn which is why I believe in this product so much. Since switching to it, fungus and grub worms haven't been a thing in my lawn. The fact that I only need to apply it once per season is also really attractive. Glad that you're enjoying the content man. Let me know if I can help with anything else. 👍😎

    Im loving your videos. They are the most concise and actually informative ive been able to find. They are real treat for a lawn nerd like myself. Dollar spot you can tell its that by looking at the blade and they will have what looks like burning that isnt from the top or bottom consistently. You will see green spots surrounded by burned out areas(for a lack of a term i can remember) and like dark rings around the green spots in the blade. where like grubs eating from The roots you will see consistent the grass dying from the top down because its trying to pull back to save the plant instead of it being a fungal disease that kills the blades where its contacted it.

    I love the simple combo products! However I have to spray on the regular to keep my PGR going so I do a lot of tank mixes. I mix tnex with 20-20-20 fert (always less then 0.2 N per 1,000 sqft), iron, and whatever insecticide or fungicide I want to apply. Your way is much more simple and clearly works.

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  4 года назад +3

      Thanks Dangerlawn. I do like simple; especially when it comes to fungicides, insecticides and herbicides. There are liquid products that work well too but I've found Caravan G to be a great one and done type product that takes care of the nasties for the entire growing season so I don't need to think about it again. There's more than one way to get the same result though. If your method is working for you, then stick with it. 😎👍

    I´ve got brown patch on my carpet grass turf! I have applied Scott´s Disease X during the past month. Probably due to the biblical deluge of rain to which La Niña is to blame, the results have been mixed! As some of the brown spots on the leafs of the grass have subsided and as it grows they get cut with my Scotts Elite 16". However, on other areas, it is as rampant as before! I rinse my mower when I change areas and use a spray on fungicide on the blades too to not spread the disease. Albeit, I do not stand on chlorine and water for my shoes... I should have use my bagger mower, albeit, I have been using my rake in my 2,000 sq.ft. of lawn. I also purchase Scott´s Grub-X. I haven't used it yet as I want to use it late in November when the last strong rainfall start to subside to save on water and enjoy the 4 month protection well into March when the grubs start to emerge until May! Thanks indeed for the recommendation and to where to buy the Caravan G!

      Caravan-G is effective against brown patch. It doesn't target dollar spot. For dollar spot, you need different fungicide. Headway G or Pillar SC will control dollar spot.

    Thanks for the insight into Caravan G, Ron. Was not aware of the combination product But frankly, I have to question using the one-product-for-all approach in the spring, at least based upon the published information for best use of the insecticide and fungicide components in Caravan. From what I have read, insecticides like thiamethoxam - the active ingredient in Caravan - work best on active grub infestations which usually occur in mid to late June and into July. The insecticide is supposed to somewhat break down and be less effective if applied in early spring. On the other hand, Insecticides like Chlorantraniliprole - the active ingredient in Grubex - are designed to break down more slowly so that they can be applied in early spring. The approach I have been using is to apply Grubex in the spring - and then use a product like Headway G or Strobe G - which I believe contain the same fungicides as that in Caravan - in June when the weather turns more hot and humid. By separating the two in this way, you get to apply them at their supposedly optimum times. At least that's the way I have been doing things the past several years, and it has been effective for me. By the way, I have no vested/commercial interest in any of these products. I am simply a homeowner seeking to sensibly control both fungus and insect problems. And I live in the New York metro area, as a reference point re time of year.

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for chiming in Steve. You're right that Caravan G is best applied in May/June while Acelepryn can be applied much earlier in the season. The fungicide component is good for 28 days or so. If treating an active fungus issue you'd want to follow up Caravan G with Heritage or Headway G depending on the fungus problem you're facing. Appreciate you watching.

    FYI, azoxystrobin will not treat dollar spot. I think you were meaning to discuss brown patch. There are cheaper sources of azoxystrobin. Also, grub prevention is better than fighting grub infestation. This product would be best applied as a preventative using a split application in the spring (although grubs are likely too large to be affected in the spring) and again in June/July to target eggs and grubs up to 2 instar. This insecticide works similar to imidacloprid so Temprid FX is another alternative. Personally I like liquid insecticides and fungicides. Spraying is so much easier, and with the right tip, application of a systemic product is very consistent.

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  4 года назад +3

      Thanks for sharing your experience SMK. Headway G has both azoxystrobin and propiconazole but I've found that by using azoxystrobin and keeping nitrogen levels where they need to be, I've not had to use a product with both fungicides. I really like the Caravan G product because I've had excellent results with over the past 3 years since I started using it. I used to use several different products (one for grubs, another for ants and another for lawn fungus). Those various products (and time associated with applying them) has been reduced to 1. Everyone might not get the same result as me, but several other people that I've recommended the product to have had great results as well. Depending on your setup I can definitely see how spraying would be easier. 👍

      I hear you Tony. Are you considering giving Caravan G a try? In addition to Caravan, make sure your lawn is also getting enough nitrogen. With warm season grass, maintaining proper nitrogen levels helps with keeping certain types of fungi (dollar spot) away. Let me know if I can help with anything.

    • @OfficiallyTonyGianni
      @OfficiallyTonyGianni 4 года назад +1

      Ron Henry I don’t like the price point but I am considering it. Last week I applied Spectracide Imminox with Insect control to the front yard and BioAdvanced to the back yard both in liquid form attached to the hose. So I’m waiting to see the 14 day results on that. The front has dollar spot the rear has several big dead patches but I shoveled the earth and saw no grubs and the few roots there were strong. I aerated a week ago as well. I put some top soil on the dead spots to help them recover fast.. grass tries to grow. I plan to put down a granular fertilizer later this week. I think it’s Scott’s Summer Lawn Food

    • @RonHenry

      Ron Henry Update: I tried the BioAdvanced in the backyard and Spectracide Immunox in the front.. the front showed progress so after 14 days I applied Immunox on both the front and backyard. Using a water hose sprayer. All the dollarspot was gone after the second treatment in the entire yard. Immunox is my goto next time. Just gotta remember to only partly turn on your water so the chemical doesn’t evacuate too quickly

    First I have been introduced to this product, Thanks! One important thing to mention is that Azoxystrobin is not labeled to control Dollar Spot, which is a common disease in reel-mowed Bermuda. I would recommend supplementing this with with a product containing Propiconazole for dollar spot control. We should discuss fungicide resistance too but that’s a whole new video!

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  4 года назад +4

      Great advice Brian. Syngenta's Headway G product amzn.to/2VoyWhm contains the Azoxystrobin and Propiconazole stack that you're referring to. I've had such good results with Caravan G which only contains Azoxystrobin that I haven't had a need to add an additional fungicide. I also tend to keep a healthy level of nitrogen in my lawn which also helps keep dollar spot away. Thanks again for sharing. Great comment! 👍😎

      Without seeing pictures of the lawn, it's tough to say spidey197012. If your soil is healthy (verified by soil testing) and you're watering enough (1 - 1.5") per week for Bermuda, heat stress shouldn't be terribly bad. When my lawn has turned brown from heat stress, it's always started in the highest points of the lawn since those areas hold the least amount of water. Feel free to send me pictures if you like ron@ron-henry.com 😎👍

    Hello Ron. This is my 2nd str8 year I get Grey leaf spot in my Zoyzia. It's pretty much in the same place as it was last yr. I pretty much scalped my lawn in the spring and applied Lebanon Fungicide. When I cut my lawn a few days ago, I noticed some more oval spots on the blades, just like last yr. I am going to cut back to watering once a week, and not apply any herbicide to prevent stressing the lawn out. Any suggestions to kill it for good? Thx Ron

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  Год назад +1

      Killing it for good isn't easy TJohnson. What I would do next is consider switching fungicides. Caravan only has azoxystrobin. I'd give Pillar SC a try. It contains 2 different fungicides which helps it control diseases better. golfcourselawn.store/products/pillar-sc-fungicide-liquid-brown-patch-and-dollar-spot-control Hope this helps.

      You're right Tom. If you're not dealing with an active fungus issue, a single application in May/June is great as preventative. If you're using it to cure an existing fungus issue, a follow up application with Heritage or Headway G in a 21 - 28 days is a good idea. Hi Nick. I would get the Caravab G down a few weeks prior to when you normally have issues with fungus. When it comes to those types of problems, every lawn is slightly difference. For my lawn I’ve had good success with late April/early May applications. It will prevent fungus for up to 21 days. If fungus is your main concern and don’t need insecticide, you might consider Headway G which is a better fungicide that protects for a few weeks longer. Good information. I think I've almost figured out a good maintenance plan for Tall Fescue. I know my fungicide game was lacking this year. I'm in the Charlotte, NC area. My local sod and seed provider has a recommended program that I intend to follow. It lists monthly Headway G applications for May, June, July and August. I'm working with 16,000 square feet. Based on the application rate, Headway G will cost me dearly. You think one application of Caravan G will get me through the entire summer?

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  4 года назад +1

      Hi Deon. That seems like a lot of fungicide to be applying monthly? Do you have a fungus problem that you're dealing with? Headway G is has an additional active ingredient for lawn fungus so it should be more effective that Caravan G. Having said that, I wouldn't apply fungicide to your lawn monthly unless there's some issue you're dealing with. I've never done that. Spring and Fall applications should be more than enough. If you keep the soil healthy and mow regularly, you should have far less issues with lawn fungus.
      The only product you should be having to apply monthly to a warm season lawn during the growing season is nitrogen. Granted, I also apply PGR and carbon products but that's to decrease mowing requirements and improve soil health. I'm from the school of that that herbicides and fungicides should be used sparingly when required.

      Hi Linwood Scott. Are you certain that the brown areas are from fungus and not heat stress? It won't hurt to put Caravan G down now but I'd also want us to look at your watering to make sure the turf isn't drying out too much. Also, are you keeping adequate nitrogen in the lawn?

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  4 года назад +1

      Hi Tm. I would apply it to the sod itself instead of the bare sod. The active ingredient in Caravan G (azoxystrobin) is absorbed both by the grass foliage and roots. Though not related to fungicide or insecticide, I would apply a carbon soil amendment treatment like Carbon Pro G to the bare soil before applying sod. Hope this helps.

    Is a reel mower better for zoysia lawns, as well? Is it too late to apply Caravan G now, in late June?

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  4 года назад +2

      Hi Sheril. Yes they're better for Zoysia because of how they cut the grass. Zoysia is happiest when mowed between 1 - 2 inches which is really difficult to do with a rotary mower without scalping the turf. You can still apply Caravan G now. It's a fungicide and insecticide so it's not like pre-emergent where there's an idea time of the year to put it down. Applying it now should take care of grubs and lawn fungi in your turf for the remainder of this growing season. Let me know if I can help with anything else! 😎👍
