      I’m getting ready to rip up my entire yard and start over. We sprayed the clover that was growing and will begin cleaning up soon. I’m sending soil samples to NCState to find out what our soil needs. It used to be 80% moss until we had 4 trees cut about 3 years ago. Any advice you can offer will be appreciated!

    I know this video is numerous years old, and would love to know how things are now with your lawn. What struck me most about your video, is how well you were mentally and spiritually handling your fungus woes. Your lawn looked horrible, and your home looked so beautiful, so I can completely imagine what a struggle it must have been to try and keep from plunging into turf depression. You kept yourself together very nicely. Well done. My new rhizomatous tall fescue lawn, that all my neighbors watched me carefully install and baby, has been completely decimated by fungus. It now in September looks like the whole thing was sprayed with roundup. And I have painstakingly gone organic with my lawn soil for years. Compost, composted manure, John & Bob's terribly overpriced fertilizer, Tiger sulfur, kelp, humid acid; get the picture. Absolutely sickening. Thought I needed therapy in the beginning. Now I'm just trying to recover.
    My ph is very high, will just keep plugging away at that. Fungicides are not an option for me.

    • @TheLawnGuardian
      @TheLawnGuardian  12 дней назад

      @@Dan4052 the lawn is okay. I've stopped trying to keep it looking nice throughout the summer because I don't feel like spending the money on the water and fungicides. I've been keeping minimal water to it and letting it go dormant and it recovers to some degree in the fall. I'm gradually transitioning my lawn to Bermuda now. Thanks for the support and watching my videos.

    I'm wondering if N-ext products that contain Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) are responsible to further increase your PH, can you check with John Perry or Matt Martin on this ?

    • @uberwebd9824
      @uberwebd9824 3 года назад

      Air8 and Humic12 have KOH in them and KOH is a very strong base that could raise PH - just curious

    • @TheLawnGuardian
      @TheLawnGuardian  3 года назад +2

      Great question! This wouldn't have been the cause for the pH problem in my lawn since I had just moved into this house. I have heard humic acids don't do a lot in soils with a high pH. In relation to your question, I would guess that there isn't enough of a concentration of KOH in these products to have a noticeable impact on pH. This would be a good question for JP or Matt Martin though. Thanks for watching!

      Hey thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Here's a follow-up video where I talk about some of the things I did to help my lawn recover. If you don't want to watch, that's okay but I thought I'd refer you to it if you'd like to see it.
      ruclips.net/video/R-2ZXm-L1UI/видео.html
      I would recommend reaching out to Matt Martin on the RUclips channel called The Grass Factor. He is a professional in the industry and will be able to better help you with whatever fungus problems you may have.
      In my videos I try to avoid saying that someone needs to take steps A,B,C because I'm not a professional in the turf industry and I know everyone's situations may be different and what I did may not apply or work in someone else's lawn.
      I try to just show what's going on in my lawn rather than tell people what they need to do since I do not have the proper education and experience to provide someone with guidance.
      Thanks again for watching and I hope you are able to get the proper guidance for your situation!

    Manure Happens and it happened to me last year. The experts said it was a perfect combination of everything. Too little and then too much watering. Heat and sun. Another thought was I created a micro climate in my back yard because of the heavy landscaping with tree and shrubs. Did an aeration and reseeding and GREEN came back this year. Have been putting down a fungicide every month this year. "They" said when you see fungus damage, it's already too late. Like you said "It's just grass." There is always the fall renewal period and now you have a project.

    This is sad, I watched your video with Matt and your lawn was beautiful at that time. I realize this video is almost a year old but I ran into something similar just within the last few weeks here in Houston. I had pushed my lawn (St Augustine) beginning in April, it was looking thick, lush, and green. Around the middle of May we had 11 days of heavy rain. That's when the "Take All Root Rot" swept through my yard. Sections of the backyard are almost completely dead, the front yard fared much better....but it's still sweeping through my yard, it hasn't stopped yet. It's funny that the root rot stops right at the property line. I'm going to start applying fertilizer at greatly reduced rates to see if that reduces the risk of fungus and I'm going to fix my soil PH. It's currently around 7 to 7.2, it should be 6 to 6.5. Thanks for the video !!!

    I know how you feel. We've been seeing our lawn go to crap for the past FIVE YEARS!! We start seeing signs in mid June, and it progressly gets worse in July and August. It could be from our streetline tree surface roots, or it can be a fungas. I'm not sure what it is, but we our soil test results last October came back low on pottssuim. I went out and bought a pottssuim product due to the fact miloganite doesn't have pottasuim. I also bought a dethatcher. I said to myself this is the machine that is going put my lawn back to lawn dominance. NOT!! IT LOOKS LIKE CRAP ONCE AGAIN!! I'm thinking about roto tillering and starting from scratch or applying a second dose of fungicide. I'm lost!

I'm sending a sample to Purdue lab,. I'm raking, ordered some better quality tall fescue seed from Super Seed Store, enough for my front yard anyway. And in a few weeks I will aerate and over seed, again. Good luck!

    @David-oh3rh 2 месяца назад

    If the Ph is that far out of whack why did your lawn look so great in the spring and probably in the fall? Simple...it's usually not the Ph,it's over watering these fine blade fescues. Your neighbors lawns look fine and I'd bet their Ph is similar to yours. Many people think that lawns are like humans and need fluids constantly--especially when it's hot. WRONG. BTW,fungus will kill the leaf but not the roots. A large amount of the grass will come screaming back when the temps drop and the grass actually starts growing again. Grab a rake and clear out as much of the thatch as possible and then....wait for cooler days.

    • @TheLawnGuardian
      @TheLawnGuardian  2 месяца назад

      You're right, I'm totally lying about what my soil test revealed in regards to the pH. While it looked okay in the spring, it still was not responding to fertilizer applications at that time because of the soil pH. When the pH is high or low the grass is unable to take up a lot of the micro and macro nutrients. I could tell it was not responding to the fertilizer because it was not growing much from the fertilizer and the lawn would never get a dark green color. Instead, it would keep a more lime green color relative to my neighbors lawns.
      The lawn didn't have fungus in the spring or fall because the environmental conditions weren't optimal for the fungus to thrive like it can in hot and humid conditions that we experience here in the late spring and all throughout summer.
      I never said high pH causes fungus, it just makes the environment more challenging for the grass to be its healthiest and when a plant is not healthy it is more likely going to have disease or other problems.
      You're right, overwatering can contribute to fungus problems but this was the not case for me. While you may not be able to see it on the video, many of my neighbors were dealing with similar fungus problems, just not as severe. Although my neighbors are close, soil conditions can be drastically different within a short distance.
      While you're also right that some fungus does only impact the leaf, some can impact the leaf and still kill the plant. There is also fungus that can damage the roots as well, resulting in the plant dying. That being said waiting it out until cooler and more favorable weather to arrive is not an option and treatment is necessary.
      Thanks for leaving a comment. Next time don't assume you know the entire situation from one video or know everything there is to know about lawn care. There is certainly a lot I don't know about lawn care and I try to learn more all the time. Your comment comes off as very ignorant, not just about my situation but also lawn care. Have a great day!

    My guess is that the reason the area around the tree doesn't have the fungus problem is one of two things: Either A.) since the area is shaded, the turf doesn't get as stressed out as the other parts of your yard. or B.) that area has a lower pH due to the extra organic matter build up from years of leaves being mulched into the soil.

      I have alkaline soil, and my home water is alkaline too. But just like you around the trees and some hedges the grass is darker green.
      You do know how grass cant absorb iron in alkaline soil?
      How do we solve this! Citric acid in the soil and foliar sprays of iron mixed with slightly acidic water?

    But I'm confused 🤔 if you overseed then you have to keep watering the lawn continually so the seeds germinate for to long. Then doesn't overwatering cause fungus on your lawn? I need to overseed but I'm afraid of my lawn getting fungus because of overwatering 🤯

    • @TheLawnGuardian

      I overseeded in the fall not the summer. Overseeding in the summer is generally not a good idea due to the heat and for the exact reason you mention with watering. You won't have the same fungus problems in the fall.

    I feel your pain. Our lawn looked fantastic last fall but this spring it kind of looks really bad. Although it has improved slightly since early spring. I think I have a fungus spot in the very center of the front. May be necrotic ring spot, but I don't know for sure. thinking of throwing some humic acid on it and the rest of a bag of fungicide to see if that helps. How can you tell if it’s heat stress or fungus I have the same problem with grass Turing brown

    • @TheLawnGuardian
      @TheLawnGuardian  Год назад

      You will see lesions on the leaf blades of the grass if it's fungus. Heat stress, the leaf blades will fold in on themselves and initially look more needle like and have a dull green appearance and then begin to turn brown because it's going dormant. Here's a link that I think can help. www.thelawnforum.com/threads/heat-stress-or-fungus.4043/
