    I’ve said it before; I’ll say it again. It’s not just the railroad that’s impressive. The room as a whole is extremely well thought out and has “finished” look. No clutter. Just clean and neat. The floors, lighting, windows are all something most of us just can’t match.

    Great layout & also a great tribute to the Rock Is,and, Chicago Great Western & the Minneapolis & St. Louis railroads at the same time.. I’m an N scale modeler, my N scale railroad is the Pacific West Coast Railroad which I will within a year have the first level of a permanent layout. My railroad will focus on the entire West Coast from the U.S.-Mexican border at San Ysidro, CA all the way up to Vancouver,BC, Canada, it will cover the final quarter of the 20th. Century from when I arrived in San Diego in 1974 up to the end of 1999 & all the railroads that served the West Coast & serve the West Coast.

      Have fun building your Pacific West Coast Railroad. In my opinion, half of the fun of a layout is the building phase. Thank you for watching my video and for your comments. Mike

    Beautiful layout. Loved seeing the IC Green Diamond TT Geeps in the yard. I do N-scale and only have one GP-7. I need at least 4 more. They used to rumble me to sleep when I was staying with my grandmother. There was a sawmill across the 2-lane Highway (Old 61) and he home was across the street from where the old Y&MV and IC crossed. I used to swim in a pond under IC trestle a short walk from her house. I’m hoping someone will produce some Green Diamond GP-7’ and GP-9’s in N-scale again soon.

      I enjoyed watching the IC operate in and around Dubuque, IA, in the late 1960's and early 1970's. There has always been something special about the black geeps with the green diamond logo ...... a classic look in my opinion. Thank you very much for watching and for your comments. Mike

    Stunning layout, really enjoyed your tour very much! What I found interesting, was the two rather large yards directly on top of each other. I recently read a piece by Lance Mindheim where he took a look at two deck layouts and he described exactly that situation as something that you never should do ☺. He wrote the operating crews would just not have enough space to work in a place like that. Guess Lance is not always right 😉 Keep up the great work!

    • @rimodeler7963
      @rimodeler7963  2 месяца назад

      Actually, Lance Mindheim has a very good point as the yards on top of each other can create operational interference. We’ve been able to work around that issue during operating sessions to minimize space conflicts. Thank you for your comments! Mike

      Hi Greg - I began building the layout in September 2007 and mostly worked on weekends and some evenings until mid-2011 when I retired. Once retired, I spent several days per week on the layout and was fairly complete by about 2015. So, the bulk of the layout was built in about an 8 year time period. Unfortunately, I don't have many in-process photos as I guess I was just too focused on getting the layout built. I appreciate your kind comments and thank you for watching. Mike

    Very impressive railroad!
    I finally have the space and financial means to build a decent sized layout and have acquired enough locos, rolling stock, track and switches to get started.
    Unfortunately I lack the imagination to tie all of my ideas together with a layout design and am currently paralyzed with fear of regret if I commit to any prospective design.
    I'm trying to learn to use the features of AnyRail design software to help me sort out the planning.
    Cheers!

    Very impressive. One thing you might want to consider to add even more realism would be to add some cables to the sides of the upper level of those autoracks. I recall seeing some done that way at the Elmhurst (IL) model railroad club.

    Fantastic layout! I subbed. My friend retired 3 years ago from the UP in North Platte. He began his career on the Rock out of Omaha down towards Fairbury. An old RI head told him this ship is going down and to look elsewhere for work. That’s when he went to the UP. He asked UP where is North Platte. 😂. He would love this layout! Looking forward to going back through your videos and future uploads. Merry Christmas and thanks for the present. 😉

    I had mentioned on one of your previous vids about how I liked all of the open country scenes. Model railroads need them to create the impression that trains are traveling between towns and cities. I used the same ploy back when I was modeling (in N-scale) back in the 80s/early 90s, but harder for me to acheive with a single-level layout, even though it was 11x14.

    Beautifull layout, must be a joy to see it come to life with trains everywhere and people running them. If there is a 'negative' it is the fact that there is slightly too much red and white in that M&StL train for this lover of the old colorfull early 1950s Modern & Streamlined... :-p
