I've lived in the Asheville area for my entire life, and as a kid lived in Ridgecrest and Black Mountain, and spent a lot of time in Old Fort as well with my grandparents. All of those communities have a rich railroad history, thus my love today for the hobby. Its really entertaining to recognize somewhere that you guys have worked into the layout. Its surreal seeing a model of your home. Very well done to the both of you, and keep up the good work. If you're ever giving out golden tickets to visit the layout, keep me in mind!
"Our Chips are HUUUUUGE". Great sense of humor. Josh, gotta tell you this is one of the best video's I've seen, and I really appreciate the work you and your dad have put in. Love seeing some of the surprises that popped up during the video, like the sign I referenced, and the mario cart. etc.
Between this and your layout tour of the BSNF Fall River Division, your narration is most impressive. It's really nice to see you and your dad share this hobby together. I've been an active model railroader since 1975 when I return from Europe. Your workmanship and concepts is a big motivator ( I'm 71 years old) and so glad your on You Tube. Well Done!!!!!!!!!!!!
In 1994/95 I lived in Swannannoa (East of Asheville) and railfanned from Asheville to Old Fort many times. I chased and rode the N&W 611 steam excursions through there, too. I've driven under the small bridge you modeled at The Loops. There are several tunnels between Asheville and Old Fort. I've hiked the tracks and actually walked through all but two of the tunnels. The first tunnel from Asheville is about a quarter-mile long - too long to walk through safely. The last tunnel on the line I never found until one winter day when the leaves allowed a view of one end of the tunnel. One short tunnel is the subject of local art for sale in the shops on Black Mountain. And, I'll never forget the smell of the wood chip pulp plants West of Asheville.
Love your layout tours, in the fact that you actually SHOW all your detail work, Not just a train running the track. Ya, train operations is cool, but I love to see all the work that has been done to support those operations. It looks amazing, and that's why so many enjoy model trains ... the modeling aspect. Spectators that is.
Josh you and your dad are AWESOME modelers.... I have been watching you for almost Ten years. I know I went back too watch from the beginning when I found you guys channel. I could watch you all everyday for hours without a break! It really is a beautiful layout. As always, I look forward to any new video brother. God bless YOU and your family! - Gary
Gary, thank you so so much! Always encouraging to know that our layout and channel has been encouraging to others. Take care, and God bless. - Josh and Tom
I have been following along for more than 7 years and it’s just awesome to see what you and your Dad created. Can’t wait to see what you guys think up next. All the best, John
Very nice railroad. You are doing a super job on it. Love that it is a father/son layout. I wish that just one of my kids or grandkids had taken an interest. Thank you for the tour. Best, Andy K.
Thank you. I have been enjoying your work for some months now. Its great to be a dad and son team. your layout makes me feel like walking down the roads of your layout. A wonderland. The tree work is awesome and shows the efforts you've put in. And of course, the coal loading and realistic running operations are a treat to watch. So many small interesting details. the dry stream bed takes the cake. superb. And the little chair overlooking the tracks!!! Too good. We need people in those restaurants. Hurry. Looks too much like a Covid-19 scene. Keep it coming. Thank you, again.
Great layout Josh!!! One word to describe you and your dad's layout "Awesome". You guys are very inspiring for other modelers!!! Thanks for the tour!!!
An amazing layout. You, your father and friends are all talented. Thanks for the update as I've been following along over a few years. It's very nice to see it coming together for you. Thanks again for the video update.
Wow what a great layout. The attention to detail is awesome. I would love to see it in person. Your narration in your videos are great. You and your dad have done a superb job.
Hey man. Greetings from Raeford NC. My dad and I used to be in the NRHS New Hope Valley Rwy Club in Bonsal NC. Real trains😉. I had a 4X8 layout as a kid but nothing even close to this. This is a stunning piece of artwork and true labor of love. I know that you guys have thousands of hours in this and it’s absolutely beautiful. Hats off to you all.
I live in Marion but work in Old Fort. I work at a factory there that makes automotive parts. NS brings us hoppers full of pellets that we use to coat the back of our automotive carpet. A long time ago we used to ship out everything via rail but now we just use NS to bring us the pellets. There used to be a set of tracks running in the building to shipping docks. The docks are still there but the tracks are torn up. The hoppers located right outside of the facility.
Awesome layout I have been inspired by your layout and pretty soon I will be building a 54 foot by 12 foot layout in a house trailer I got a couple years ago my layout will be showing a CP route in Alberta Canada layout has some old style buildings like wooden grain elevators and Stations so looks like the 1950s And the trains are modern 2011 to present it will be cool to get started you and your dad are so talented it’s amazing
In life you sometimes find works that inspire you to be better at what you do. This layout shows me what I can do if I really apply myself. This is incredible! Every angle and every scene is excellently done. The yard is big enough to actually do realistic work and all the little detail scenes that have nothing to do with trains bring the layout to life. I love the tree-lined valleys and signal lights in all the right places. Nicely done!
Thanks. Our hope is that we inspire as many as we can. Inspire ability, inspire creativity, and inspire fellowship by sharing this great hobby! Sincerely, Tom(Josh's Dad)
A magnificent and beautiful layout. You are a very lucky man to be able to work on this project alongside your father. My dad and I planned on doing layout, a much smaller version of course, but life happened and then the time was gone. God bless my friend, cherish these days. Once again, awesome!
Ingenious the way you’ve incorporated into your space, including the workshop. The photographed backdrops add an extra level of realism to the breathtaking scenery. Love it!
Great video tour of a really GREAT layout. So many nicely- detailed Appalachian scenes. You really capture the flavor of the Blue Ridge country. Thanks for sharing.
THANK YOU...for sharing. Fantastic tour, great workmanship throughout the layout. Thanks for the updated tour. Great to have a dad with the same interest as you.
Thanks Josh! Your Railroad is sincerely becoming one of the best I've ever seen! It's obvious that you've put a lot of love into it! It is a true inspiration for all of us who have not had a chance to build something this complete but dream of doing so! It's a simple railroad, but has amazing amounts of flexibility and staging, on par with much bigger layouts! It must be really fun to do operating sessions! Again thanks so much for sharing!
Being from Southeast VA, this is really close to home. I love these types of layouts. Ones that family build together and over a long period of time. Thank you for sharing with us. :)
your layout is a work of art, so full of detail and life a true pleasure to watch love the snow scene brilliant you have modeled on real places, gives the layout so much life. will be checking more of your videos kind regards Al.😊😊😊👍👍👍
Great update. This is a testament to what can be achieved with a focus on a concept over a long period of time. The Super Trees rand the general/store/rafting bus really make the peninsula valley scene come to life. I look forward to seeing more about the paper mill as you finish it. I am enjoying the excellent wood chip gondola models that I bought from you as well.
The continuing splendidness of the videos created by you never cease to amaze me - just as the modellling by you and your Dad does - utterly cracking (Scottish term for amazing) !
I visited Asheville several years ago, but did not get to see the railroad. Beautiful country - you’ve done an excellent job of capturing the feel of the area.
Fabulous layout. Magnificently presented. And so much better than all of us crowding around unable to see half of what you've created. Good on ya! And thanks for sharing your craftsmanship.
I saw the word modern and was about to pass. I clicked it on, and saw the first few seconds and thought...I thought this was supposed to be a model railroad. I was blown away. Awesome layout and A great description.
The time we have spent together is priceless. I truly encourage you to make it happen! It will be worth every minute and every dollar! Sincerely, Tom (Josh's Dad)
Wow! Well done by you and your Dad. Something I wanted to do when I was a kid. Thanks for bringing dreams to life. A lot of time, patience and money to create this great accomplishment. It really is an inspiration. I'm amazed the the electronics with the signaling, etc. Technology sure is great. Keep up the great work!
I’ve watched and enjoyed many of your videos but this tour is by far the best compilation of your layout. You and your Dad make a great team and I know others have done much to help along the way. This I most definitely my favorite layout. Thanks for sharing and keep em coming 👍👍👍😎😎😎 Cary
Truly inspiring work. I'm an 1980s-90s modeler but it's always great to see the more modern stuff since the remarkably detailed layouts like yours that I've visited almost always seem to be transition era or earlier.
Thanks, Josh, for the overview of the layout .......... very impressive! You and your father have done a magnificent job of modeling a portion of the NS in HO scale. There is so much beautiful detail throughout the layout ....... I especially like the old retired track through the road crossing at Louisiana Avenue. Very well done and keep up the great effort! Mike
So enjoy all your vedios. Great looking layout. My club is in the process of building a new lsy out to replace the old one. I have been showing them your vedios for new ideas.
Hello, how are you? Excellent video and what a beautiful model. Congratulations!!! I really liked the layout because you knew how to make the most of the space you had and also the organization of your studio. Very good!👏😃

Super cool!!! Unbelievable work. 15 years, that's a long time but what a journey and it's not over.. Well done!
Did anyone else see Mario??
Thanks Troy! Really appreciate it! - Josh
Notice Mario at the Louisiana Ave. yard!
NS years from now you'll look back on these years with your dad as some of the best memories
Wow, that is unbelievable!
Hi Jaw Tooth!
This guy is the Bob Ross of model railroading
Lol
The more you watch, the more you think about it.
Now that's a comment lol.

Imagine having such an awesome relation with your dad. Thats the best part of all of this. Cherish these moments.
Absolutely beautiful!! I pray to get my layout that big one-day with all the support here.
I could watch videos of you layout all day long and still find details I missed the first time. Just awesome.

I like the ditch lights dimming when flashing in the opening scene. It's just that extra touch of realism that really stands out.
I've seen a few train layouts and I gotta say your's is the most detailed, realistic, well thought of layout I have ever seen.. 👍👍
"Our Chips are HUUUUUGE". Great sense of humor. Josh, gotta tell you this is one of the best video's I've seen, and I really appreciate the work you and your dad have put in. Love seeing some of the surprises that popped up during the video, like the sign I referenced, and the mario cart. etc.

Awesome layout kudos to your Dad for his skills!! I love what you guys have built.
Thanks Ed!
Beautiful railroad, you and your Dad have some fantastic talent. Enjoy watching trains on your layout. Stay well.

Been waiting on this kind of video from you. Love it Josh. Y'all have put in a lot of hard work that was well worth it.
Thanks Kyle!
Been following your RUclips videos for a while and your layout is absolutely awesome as well as the videography and narration. Nice slow camera work with indept descriptions. Your dad and you (as well as others) have done a wonderful job. Will be using many of the layout construction concepts on my layout which I will commence this spring. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice presentation. I like the cunning way you've lost or gained elevation via your peninsula. Well done.
Excellent work, very inspiring. Love it.
MAN! If I were to buy your house, that's if you were selling it, I'd be
willing to pay a little more to have
that layout. That is MAGNIFICENT!
Incredible detail! Excellent craftsmanship!
Wonderful video. I've enjoyed many of your episodes as you and your Dad have built your RR. And it was good to meet you in person on the Fall River Division.

Big job building. Love to see this in real life
I thought you said there would be RAPTORS in the river 7:58! I thought you might be taking the freelance/prototype layout a little more freelance side. That is such an amazing layout. I just started building my first 4x8 layout to test my skills before I design my room sized layout. Your videos are amazing and very helpful. I have gotten so many ideas even though I want to model BNSF in Illinois.
Hello! Thanks for your video and the very nice layout. Greeting from Northern France.
Greetings back from Asheville, NC. from both Josh and I (the Dad!)
Great scenery with beautiful trees!
Fantastic layout. Love the snow scene! Excellent idea.
Beautiful layout - thanks for sharing.
