@@usssouthdakota5541I wouldn't like to start from Gotenhafen and then sail for 5 days to just start a battle. So thanks Wargaming for downscaling things. 😅
True, although also worth noting that was the *maxium* range. I don't have numbers, but from what I've read the actual effective range (at least as far as being able to reliably hit, say, a capital ship-sized target) was somewhat less.
Different Montana. The one that was about 40% built was a 1920s era South Dakota class super dreadnought. The Montana that most people know and love had some steel cut & a handful of MK-7 406mm barrels set aside in preparation for construction. Unfortunately the entire class was canceled before construction could start
No, just no. I don't know where this rumor originated but all the Montana-class battleships were cancelled before any construction was started. Not a single keel was ever laid. Period. The hull form is not remotely the same between these two vessels. Some moron tried to go on about this with Drachinifel and he mentioned it the other day as one of the strangest fan interactions ever; guy was very aggressive about being wrong. The only thing the Midway-class carriers and the Montana-class battleships have in common is that the type and arrangement of the propulsion systems for the Midways was largely based upon the proposed Montana design.
You might be confused with the carrier USS United States (in game as a super CV) was laid down and the keel was complete, with much of the steel allocated, but she was canceled on the ways.
Wrong Montana. The USS Montana BB-51 was canceled while under construction due to the Washington Naval Treaty. USS Montana BB-67 was never canceled before construction began.
To be fair, neither shot on the Moskva was RNG. The first shot, the moskva angled in and took it on the belt, while on the second shot, BelowAveragePotato specifically aimed for the upper nose of the Moskva, as he knew he could overmatch that part.
Jingles,so hoping your health is getting better dear sir. We're in Western Queensland and absolutely love your world of anything. Keep well and repair your health above any levels available.
The actual range of the Mk.7 16"/50-cal gun was on the order of 45 km. Its effective range, limited only by the radar horizon, was about 30,000 meters. At the Battle of Surigao Strait, the USS West Virginia, armed with 16"/45-cal guns, but sporting the same fire control system as a fast battleship, scored a first salvo hit on IJN Kirishima at 22,000 meters--without visually sighting the target. So, yeah, the guns and fire control system were THAT goo. The 16"/45 was, in fact, slightly more effective at long range, because its lower muzzle velocity gave it a steeper trajectory for plunging fire.
Having a radar in a cyclone is also great. The enemy can only see 8km but if you use your radar you can see them as far as your radar goes. That catches people off guard all the time.
If a carrier waits in Que to long, MM does a que dump to get them in battle. Super Carriers have an even shorter wait time. I've been in a 3 v 3 random during prime time for just this reason.

We're cursed that our only state ship is famous because of the Spanish-American War, and BB's didn't survive long enough for us to get another one. After all these years of playing, I finally have USS Maine, so happy. Just need to wait a bit for the popularity dying down so it won't be 3 Maine's on each team in MM.
There actually was a second USS Maine, BB-10. Of course, it was a pre-dreadnought battleship commissioned in 1902, so the chances it comes to WoWs are slim to none unfortunately...
