I’ve said this for years but not many people really understand it, but I know you will. Jinjer is a musician's band! if you’ve been any sort of musician for more than 10 years you’ve kind of heard and seen it all. With a band like this, it’s finally something that gets our attention and makes us realize there is still a way to be incredibly creative instead of formulaic. I think the average music listener might not understand this, but I know musicians with a lot of years of honing their craft will.

I fully agree. I was just telling a friend of mine that this is the first band I've been excited about since Tool came out back in the 90's. Yes I'm that old lol. But I've been a musician for 30+ years and I cannot tell you how much it bothers me that more bands aren't this free with their creativity. Like you pointed out, they are too formulaic. I do think the average listener gets it, just not the same way you and I do. I think it's more of a sub-conscience understanding. It's not your average intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge/solo, chorus, outro but they get it. Jinjer just has a way with their musicality. I also think people need to read Tatiana's lyrics. She is a brilliant lyricist that doesn't get the credit for it. People are too stuck on her screams and don't look at what she is saying, and for English being her second language, her use of the language far exceeds those that are native speakers. Perennial is a great example.

Well said. That's definitely their most progressive song so far, which is also why I struggled with it on the first day, as I was way too tired to follow along.
Now I really love it. The vocals, the lyrics, the instruments, the video, the overall production (amazing clean mix and awesome harmonies!), it all comes together and shows how much Jinjer matured. I feel it is also weirdly catchy, which is one of the things that I missed from Jinjer, but this song is now weirdly stuck in my head.

    • @coleG112
      @coleG112 3 года назад +5

It's progressive, but it's not just a salad like some prog stuff is. There's still just enough familiar pieces throughout and just enough patterns that it still makes sense. And everything goes together so well, so often there's a great prog musician in the band but the rest are just supporting, so it feels like the two pieces are battling each other. Or two technical musicians will be battling for priority, so it sounds kinda messy.
Everything here has clear hierarchy, and a good flow, but is still so technical and ever-changing.

According to Eugene, Vlad composed every song but one on Wallflowers, the new album. The guy is a genius. About a week ago JInjer Hellfest from home 2021 premiered. One hour of what I consider some of their best songs. Excellent production and sound, from an empty field in France. They absolutely crush every song. Search for it on RUclips, you will not be let down. Be careful though, it might melt your face off. Keep loving music.

I saw that Eugene comment about Vlad too and I’m like whaaaaaaat?! Who does that?! What other band has the drummer writing 90% of the music? I mean really he’s just barely a drummer, right? 😂 It’s like his 3rd or 4th instrument; piano is really his thing. He’s classically trained on piano, self taught on drums over just the past few years. He’s just a noob on drums lol.
His classical composing chops really show on a song like Vortex. No traditional pop/rock verse, chorus, refrain, lead break, etc. No part repeated again, just a constant flow, centered around that crazy swirling part in the almost exact middle of the song. Genius indeed.

Buy those tickets. They are selling out fast, 9 of 40 shows sold out already. Got mine for Seattle. A concert performance is out already at Hellfest with this as the last song on the set - links to each song in the comments.
I think Tatiana must have put some time and work into improving her ability to switch quickly between growls and belting during the pandemic. She's said she's been afraid she'd mess up the 1-second switch near the end of Pisces live, and the songs where she switches from growls to belting live have always had about 2 seconds in between such as Judgement & Punishment and Words of Wisdom. But in the Hellfest performance of Vortex she's switching in a split second. Something you might ask about. ;)

I felt the same a few years ago when I first stumbled upon them by accident. I watched "Lost in Vegas" react to them playing Pisces (the song that "caught" most of us :P ). My life has never been the same since. I have always loved music and I enjoy many genres, but like you, they move me more than anything ever has. I've met these beautiful people 3 times and I will never forget my experiences seeing them deliver their melodies and musicality before my very eyes. Everything from the lyrics to the instrumentation. Their unique sound and message has managed to keep me afloat when depression tries to pull me below the surface. I have seen you react to them before, but today, I could tell that you now see them as I do. They deserve so much more for everything they have given back to us.

Yep, I feel the same :). I totally resonate with them as well on many levels. I haven't been this...well, you can say obsessed...with a band in a long time :). It's not just one thing. Each member of the band is excellent at what they do. They are very unique in their approach to music. They think outside the box. I just love that. They are also just cool, laid back, down to earth people; no ego. It's clear they love what they do and as a group have a very close bond. It comes out in their music. It's almost like the music is just an extension of who they are instead of them being in a band playing music...if that makes sense?
Definitely get those tickets. I got my VIP tickets for the sold out show in Portland, OR Oct 24th. Get to meet them as well. Very looking forward to that! I have a friend that was going to go to that show as well, but he didn't buy his ticket in time (he thought he had more time), so he's going to the Oct 25th show the next day (they opened another show because of demand - which is awesome!). So I also bought another ticket for the 25th so I can join him. Yeah, I'm up for two shows in a row of Jinjer :) Absolutely want to support them as much as I can. They deserve it.

They are a welcome antidote to the all too prevalent verse/chorus form that has consumed most of modern music. What they have really created here is a rhapsody - a free flowing series of musical episodes that serve the meaning of the song. The way they can marry insane technicality (appeals to my analytical mind) with beautiful lyrical melodies and harmonies (appeals to my emotional mind) is truly something.

I freaking love Jinjer, but the only thing I don't like is that I can't really introduce them to other people....even some self professed metal heads. They either can't get past the growling or they can't follow the time signature changes. This is definitely a band that requires you to have an ear for music and the willingness to study it.
Most people just aren't going to take the time to do that and Jinjer really isn't a one time listen band. You rarely, if ever, "get" it on the first listen. I've had to listen to Vortex 20-30 times to get familiar with the time signature changes, riffs, drum patterns, and song structure and I'll be damned if I don't continue to hear something new each time. You just don't get that with many bands.
I haven't felt this excited about a band since Pantera. Hell, Jinjer is the first music I've actually paid for SINCE Pantera. Just bought one of the pre-release vinyl sets. Only 400 made worldwide. It was the one with the white 7 inch record and the signed booklet. USPS better deliver it unbroken and undamaged or I just might go postal.

Roman uses OD guitars made by a small luthier shop in Poland I believe. They are amazing works of art.

Roman is using an OD Venus (seen in this video), and an OD Rhea guitar. OD Guitars also offers 4 other awesome models, with their own unique look. You may also see Eugene with a really cool Overload custom Achilles or Chrono bass guitar, in addition to his Ukrainian made Stas Pokotilo custom bass (this video), or Ibanez (Pisces live session), and other bases. Vladislav uses Tama Drums, Zildjian cymbals, and Promark sticks.

Glad to see this make you nerd out as it has me, this song is just a banger multiplied by a banger to the banger power. Also, I always feel that Roman is neglected when people talk about Jinjer, but this feels like a showpiece for him... His riffs, phrasing, and tone are just insane on this song.

This song made my day when I first heard it too, and your reaction was a great cap to today. After a long day of jamming in Marching band seeing someone as happy about music as I am really closes the day the way I wanted it to.
I've been really into punkier things recently (because of the new poppy EP and the Eyehategod Album from earlier this year) but going back to something in the groove world has been nice for the last week because that's where this song takes me. Rock on dude, I cannot wait to see more of your reactions as the new album draws closer.
