Music Teacher Reacts: JINJER - Vortex
I am reasonably sure there is not enough Jinjer on this channel and I am making that a priority right now!
Jinjer released a new song today and I could not wait to get all over it! This band is astounding and deserve any popularity they get each and every time.

Every time Jinjer drops something new I feel Tatiana has improved her vocal expressions. The last couple of years she has gone from excellent to out of this world and seemingly she keeps going. And let's not forget the guys, they are so tight and together and still have groove in spades. Truly mind boggling.

The music has definitely gotten more complex with their time signature choices and such... Very prog

Great Alice In Chains pick up. Tatiana said she tried to channel more Alice In Chains and Kurt Cobain with her vocals on this album! They said this is going to be their heaviest, darkest album ever. Tatiana even said fans might not like this album because it’s going to be very different than what we’re used to. If this is an indication of what we’re going to get, sign me up!

Her cleans were never that great. I enjoy Courtney LaPlante’s cleans from Spiritbox much more. But Tati has the best metalcore/djent/prog screams + growls bar none.

@@GOD999MODE 😂 Dude, they’re two different singers with two different styles and two different instruments and both learned in different ways (Tati is pretty much entirely self taught). But if you think that her cleans were “never that great”, you’re very much mistaken. I’m not saying that her cleans are the best or one of the best, but they are definitely a lot better than you give them credit for.

Vortex may well be my favourite Jinjer production. By the time Tatyana has finished her first phrase, I'm in full body goosebumps that stay with me for the entire song, fading up and down in intensity. You mention the layering on her voice in specific sections. What I find weirdly cool is that they don't have them as 'backing vocals' during live performances and, as good as they are in the recorded versions, I don't miss them in live settings...

At the 5:50 mark, I LOVE that gnarly distressed "spin" vocal ! I have not heard Tati ever do that and yet to hear anyone else pick up on that but MAN does it tickle my fancy! This band just stays tight and gets better. 👊

Loved the Nevermore reference. One of my other favorite bands. Jinjer is in a league of their own. They actually referenced Alice in Chains in their live stream before the premier of this video. Tatiana talked about what a big influence they are to her and how several songs on the new album will have that flavor. Great reaction!!! Love this band.

The guys compose the music, then Tati writes lyrics and weaves her vocals into the music. I feel an AIC vibe in the guitar work at the beginning. Tati did featured vocals on the Suicide Silence cover of Man In The Box during quarantine, so not surprised she used that vocal style, but totally digging it. Cheers!

She actually uses false cord screaming. Vocal fry doesn't create screams this strong or deep, vocal fry is more like this:
    ruclips.net/video/nbuNotrDeUI/видео.html
She said in some interviews that she started learning the terminology of screaming and definitions, and she says she's not doing fry screams (which is different from vocal fry itself) but rather doing false cord screaming.
    Which is more like this:
    ruclips.net/video/BBKiOyZuCJQ/видео.html
    Hope this cleared the confusion.

When dissecting the string-note portion of this song, I looked a t 90% of the content as if it was on a single instrument (both bass and guitar) For me, it really helped find the flow, and eased the transitions between the meters and partial meters .
    Anyway, great song.
