    To anyone who follows the advice to use your phone as your face camera, be very very careful. I used my phone for about 5 months before the phone started dying after 15 minutes of use. Phones are not meant to be used as a constant running camera for hours and it will overheat your phone if you are not careful. Just as a heads up, I'd recommend using an old phone that you don't care about anymore.

    some of your videos are clickbait and have little to no use for the most of us but i like your attitude towards lighting and audio both of wich are my favorite things to mess with in my videos and my favorite things in general. So many people like to overlook these two things and just buy whats popular and everyone is using rn and ending up looking basic and just boring despite having sometimes a lot of followers and resuorces to spend on looking good in videos. Ty for making this imo it helps a lot in understanding this topic :)

    The rim light is distracting, there is a lens flair upper camera right. You should look into either a grid on the light or bigger hood to cut the light falling onto your lens from said rim light. Ideally you want to light the subject not the glass. The reason behind this is the flair will draw the viewers eyes away from the subject to the flair as it is a bright spot on the screen surrounded by black. This has the effect of creating competition between the flair and your subject. This also can flatten an image “less pop”.
    The rim light should be used to pull your subject out of the background. I would use it all the time, even for zoom calls, but work on minimizing that flair. JJ Abrams we are not.

    I always struggle trying to light two people, but not an interview type of configuration. Two people behind a desk doing reviews or Pokémon card openings. At this time I'm lighting everything from the front with room lighting providing the fill and maybe some rim lighting, however it might be better to shuffle the lights around moving one center front (between the two subjects) and the other two on opposite corners and behind to provide both rim for one subject and key for the other subject (cross keying).

    • @CinemaSteve
      @CinemaSteve 2 года назад +1

      What lights do you use? One of my favorite modifiers for 2 people in most settings is actually a lantern modifier. It adds a globe of light and is perfect for tons of settings from interviews to people sitting next to each other etc. The lantern modifier is different from the normal light modifiers such as a dome softbox because it's not a direct source of light and it allows the light to be dropped in overhead or in front.

    • @mobilechaosyt
      @mobilechaosyt 2 года назад

      @@CinemaSteve Neweer 660s three lights with umbrellas but I have 2 on one stand because they are not producing enough light to be used as the Key Light. The globe is a nice idea but I don’t have any bowens mount lights.

    • @CinemaSteve
      @CinemaSteve 2 года назад

      @@mobilechaosyt ah that’s tricky. I’m a creative director and I personally try to not use LED 1x1 panels :/. Cross keying can be effective but it depends on what type of lighting you’re trying to portray. Harris uses a lot of 3 point lighting to cast a shadow on half of his face while using a fill to soften that while still feeling moody and cinematic. It sounds like you’re going for a high key look so no mood lighting and just presenting the people on screen with the product? Do you have a small budget for another light? Bowens mount lights have become way more affordable such as $200 for the Aputure Amaran 100D. But I’m not trying to tell you to spend money when you do have perfectly working lights!

    • @mobilechaosyt
      @mobilechaosyt 2 года назад

      @@CinemaSteve From the videos I have recorded it seems like we get plenty of face shaping given we are using umbrellas and two lights on one side and the fill on the other. I think the only thing we are missing is probably background separation. Some of that probably is how close we are to the background and the amount of light spill on the background. Probably using hair lights would also help.
      I tried using a bowens mount light, however because the light color was so different it would have required a complete rework of everything and it really isn't an option.

    • @CinemaSteve
      @CinemaSteve 2 года назад

      @@mobilechaosyt what type of camera are you using? Creating depth is a balance of camera settings and lighting. Hair light definitely does help. Have you tried using color for hair lights? Like what Harris was saying, the contrast between a more yellow light on the wall or on your hair helps create contrast which creates separation. I’ve also got a small RGB tube light that cost $50 on Amazon I use on a gorilla pod for color contrast on a back wall or hair. I use it for more run and gun shoots but it works really well. Light spill on the back wall isn’t a big deal as long as you can offset it with another light source to wash it out or create another color.

    On the point of epoch cam, at least for Android that was already a thing. I have droid cam X which allows me to use the back camera of my note 20 ultra allowing me to basically have a 108 megapixel webcam. Then I run that through Nvidia broadcast for background stuff. Only real issue is it's 1080p 30 however I could probably tweak it to get 1080p 60 and the other issue is you can't use ur phoneunless you use like Samsung Dex on a second monitor however if you don't wanna spend money on a webcam and you have a decent phone it's definitely something to look into.
