Hey man, you captivated me with your color balance. So my question (as a fellow Sony shooter) is, how do you set up your camera settings when shooting S-Log and still get that quality without any noise?
Thank you for this!! I’ve been doing research about lighting for over a month now and ended up in a rabbit hole of items to buy. You hit the mark in answering all my questions! Can you link the products? Like umbrella size and the equipment you used? I want to take senior portraits for my daughter, rather than outsourcing it. Much love to my Icelandic brother!
Ok that eye light and the mist filter for talking head shots somehow blew my mind! :D Thanks as always for sharing my friend :) I still have a very basic lighting setup: one light and one shower curtain. Have to setup every time when I want to shoot at my kitchen table, but with two small kids I don't have space for a permanent shooting space, so I do my best to get these videos out with what I have. But I will definitely try your mist filter tip!
This was such a beautiful tutorial. I learned about the mist filter for the first time and it makes such a difference. I might get myself one. You didn't add it to your affiliate links though.
Awesome video friend. Do you have a tutorial on how you color grade your Slog3? I have a Sony FX3 but can’t get the results you are getting. Would love a tutorial. I’m going to buy your Luts pack
You said your key light is at 5500k but you didn’t share what your backlight is set to or your fill light 😊. Lastly, do you use a 1/8 mist filter? A response would be freaking awesome! Thanks for the vid! Super great!
I'd even take a video about your magic background! You can do a back in the day video about magic, Peter Lingren and Jason Morris could do there back in the day about bodybuilding!
Funny enough the lighting set up you said didn’t look good reminded me of the social network but I can understand why the one you chose is better for RUclips type is videos
Cool video! I tried to purchase your RUclips Studio Masterclass, but all the links redirect to the same page so not actually sure how to do the checkout process :)
@@InWilderPlaces thanks for pointing this out, on desktop it works, but on mobile i'm getting linked back up, some sort of bug, will investigate now and talk to support, thanks for pointing this out to me
@@InWilderPlaces Alright found the problem, I'd accidentally made so the "offer" would expire today, it's acctiive now and should work. :) Thank you again for pointing this out and let me know if I can help you any further
Very good timing for this video :) Been looking at getting the godox SL100BI (need the variable Kelvin to match up with some other stuff), but: my question, when using the SL100D with the placement of the light you have in the video, what strength are you running it at? I’m torn between the 60 and 100, and knowing me I *will* pretty soon find that the lowest powered version (60) probably is gonna be a bit weak.
I used the 60w for years as my main light, the 100w in this video is at 30% if I remember correctly. It just depends on your space and how far away your lights are from yourself.
@@thaticelandicguy Yeah, thanks :) might be doing some slomo (60fps) product presentation video stuff down the line but sounds like 100watts should be powerfull enough for that, and experiment with the light further away for harsher shadows on products for a more stylized look which of course requires some power and ooomph :)
@@thaticelandicguy Thanks :D Not gonna hold you against it if it turns out to be a little weak for the slomo though ;) Knowing myself and the complexities of the inverse square law and all that one *always* need more power when ambitions takes over and the goals are set high ;)
I really love this video and am using it to help but guide my own setup but just want to flag that the reason your "before" shot looks so bad is because of white balance, not because of anything to do with the changes in your lighting setup. You get great results, you don't need the fake gimmick.
1. Turn the cap forward. 2. Put on glasses. 3. Place a wall right behind you (99% of people don't have a separate room for a studio) and move the desk right up against the wall. 4. Include the desk surface in the frame. 5. Add a camera from above for a second shooting angle. It's easy to suggest setting up lighting in ideal conditions. But that's not what happens in reality.
I'm very bummed out that nowhere there's any tutorials on how to light youtube studios that are not talking head scenarios. 99% of the youtube videos are "Turn your bedroom into a studio" or "How to light a tiny studio space". So I'm out here winging it :D

Easily the most comprehensive beginner lighting video I've seen... I took notes! Thank you sir.
Your course and explanation is very easy to follow. You're good teacher!
Good tips in here off to check out the Masterclass as it is bound to be good from the Master !
thank you Hieth!

I am in love with this accent sorry I have to rewatch the video to pay attention ❤🌷
me too! I really enjoy the charisma so I tend to ignore the topic a lot =) But yeah, cool stuff
Good lighting setup and colour makes all the difference, much more so than which camera body or lens.
I couldn't agree more
I love your Lighting at 05:15 the most

Why camera point from the bottom up? I've noticed top down is a much more flattering angle for me.

yea there's something special about the mist filters! :) Do it man, I used to film in my grandmas kitchen when I started out lol

truly appreciate your comment my man 😌
Great video! What do you think about the noise of the Godox SL100D?
Love the video. Really helpful thankyou. I need to up my game 😁
Awesome video, legitimately good advice and not a bunch of fluff!
I appreciate that!
Great job!!
Thanks for the video, could you tell me what is the reference of the blue light tube?
As you saw in the video it’s just a cheap gel I put on my light :)
Hi there, may I ask you how many watts are the yellow lights behind you?
Great videos! Thank you so much!

my mist filter is 1/4 :) Fill light same as key light and my backlight just a bit colder.
Which brand / name mist filter ?
Thank you for this! ❤
Interesting video, it can be tricky to get rid of shadows on faces on outdoor video without light.
Yea for sure, I’ve used reflectors outdoors to bounce light it helps good ☺️
Which lens are you using here? I went back and not sure if I missed it or not specifically mentioned.
sony 20mm f1.8 :)
We need a video showing how you video edit and your workflow!!

Why don't you make a video about the differences between videographer and filmmaking and cinematographer?
Why doesn't your face go red when filming with iphone camera (back and front)? I have fair skin and my face is red and wrinkled.
