Ex-audio engineer, turned pro photographer, turned full-time RUclipsr here... Love the setup! And you can never get too nerdy. Ever. Man, the placement and usability of that wall mounted 120D is off the charts. 👌
I'm starting to run in the same "smaller field" - moving from only doing audio to now having a RUclips channel and getting to learn, practice, record and edit video! Just happened to find @Dunna Did It channel and subbed.
I'm shocked by how many people say "Sorry for getting too nerdy" or "Not to get too in-depth" like bro that's what I came here for! Don't apologize for being detailed!
15 years, no wonder you’re audio is so clean! Would LOVE an audio production breakdown from you, especially since you’re so experienced in that field. Maybe something like “A Beginner’s Guide to Crisp Audio” where you don’t go too deep, but maybe just focus on the fundamentals that a new person like myself can practice in order to get better and better at recording audio that is clean, but also has depth and character. I have a lot of the same/similar equipment as you, I just need the practice..That guidance would be SO helpful:) thanks for all the free help you give on this channel!!
As a tech manager, I found this tour of your tiny 9x9 foot RUclips studio setup to be incredibly informative and inspiring. You've done a great job of maximizing the small space and creating a professional looking studio with minimal gear. Your attention to detail in lighting, audio, and color grading is impressive. I also appreciate the inclusion of your gear list in the video description, it helps to see what equipment is needed to achieve a professional look. I will definitely be taking note of your setup when I create a studio space for my channel. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience!
...after 9 minutes my mouth was unconsciously wide open in disbelief. I am like, is he really just... going to give us ALL HIS SECRETS? Like even what camera, lens, specific camera settings? And then exactly how to color grade it.. unbelievable. THANK YOU SO MUCH BRO.
I'm coming from a professional audio engineering background as well in post production, still do work in audio but have been doing video off and on. I appreciate your perspectives on your channel. Also, your room and colorgrade immediately caught my attention. Love how perfectly balanced your lighting is on your skin tones.
I love watching how other RUclipsrs do their setups. I love the Teleprompter idea, really means that you cannot miss a thing. A little more pre-production, but maximum quality and ease in post!
Made it to the end. I'd like your take on the audio aspects of a RUclips video. I think the most important aspect of a RUclips video (besides the story) is audio quality. It's a mystery to a lot of rookies/experienced users. Insights are welcome.
Your audio sounds the best on RUclips. It actually sounds like a lot of broadcast audio where it’s natural and you don’t hear the mic or the processing. Would love a video on that, especially a “free” way to do it with what comes with Adobe
Cudos from a live sound engineer pushing his video production company. Sound is more than 50% of the success of the vid! Thanks for such an in-depth tour.
Audio tutoriallll pleaseeeeeeeeeee!!! The breakdown was incredible Dunna ! The blue trick out of your skin tones shows how much thought and care goes into making the videos. 😍
I wish I'd watched this a year ago! My new studio is also quite small but I've nerded out as usual, so it's going to be interesting to see how it looks. I've run my channel faceless so far but it's time to start doing some of the exposition direct to camera instead of shooting lots of b-roll and creating graphics. Sometimes just telling the story works better. I'm using my Sony 40mm lens on the A7-IV as the main camera, but I have to mount it on a wall bracket to get it far away enough, the tripod simply doesn't give me enough space. I have some of those wall mounted arms for my lights, they are great. I have a simple smartphone autocue/mirror thing that works well. I need to do a lot of macro shots and stand-up demonstrations so I went for an electrically-elevating desk as a luxury option. It's great having presets and it allows for a radical scene change with very little effort. Good tip about the audio absorbing panels. I have books lining the walls of my existing audio recording space, but it has racks full of microwave radio testgear that I need to power off to remove the weird hums and fan noise, so moving to another room is a must. I watched your color-grading vid and that changed my perspective completely, so now I'll have to binge-watch everything else. Thanks for the time and effort you put into these vids.
Love the nerding out! I'm a pro photog getting into video and this all is awesome. Especially with sound, its not something you notice as a viewer unless somethings wrong. You're one of my "comfort youtubers" because of how chill and easy-viewing your videos are so its super neat to see the tech-y side that influences and creates that feel.
A million thanks for your transparency. I'm in the process of modifying my home office for secondary use a youtube studio. I also want to upgrade from my Canon DSLRs to Sony mirrorless, but learning color grading seems overwhelming...wish it were some way to get optimum out-of-camera colors w/ Sony without color grading. I realize there's always a lot of work in producing with excellence. Peae & Hope.
So cool to get to see a part of the whole process and the "Behind The Scenes" of it all. Love how much of a nerd you are about the whole thing. I hope to someday have as good of a studio setup as you do. Would love to hear about the most unexpectedly easy or unexpectedly hard parts about the whole youtube-video-making process.
I've been running grip arms off of the same C-Stand that holds my 120D to boom my mic for years, but this Spidercrab arm looks like it would be so much simpler and quicker to use and adjust. Great use of this space, man.
thanks fr sharing ur cool effective small room setup. the wall mount light stands r so helpful when it comes to managing small spaces. I can perfectly understand .. i hv my youtube video shooting setup + editing desk setup + a bed .. all in one 10-10 room. been filming and sleeping all in one room. its such a struggle and every inch of space is so important
It's great to see how you were able to become one of the real Premier channels on RUclips. With all of the photography and audio programs you run it would be extremely helpful to see your full computer setup. I hope you do one of those soon.
I now use the Godox VL150 LED Video Light. I have 2 of them and i use the Aputure Light Dome mini II and the Aputure Light Dome II with them I love these lights
I am dealing with a 6ftx10ft office space and i got to make this work. Thanks for this video, i really needed inspiration on how to setup my new office for youtube.
I watched some of your older videos a couple of days ago, such a huge difference between what your studio/room used to look like and how it looks like now. #mindblowing
Nice setup! You made me realize how much space I'm wasting having a separate mic stand when I should just clamp it onto my lights C-Stand so I'm going to make that change! I'd be interested in the audio info, I've been meaning to get fabfilter for a while, just haven't decided what program to use it with as I'm primarily Windows based and most of the info online tends to focus on Apple solutions.
This video gave me different ideas when it comes to image processing. I feel confident to start making videos anytime. I would like to see a video talking about audio and your audio processing. You can be as nerdy as you want. I'm a controls engineer, so I understand nerdy. 😁
With you on the “above” if the ceiling allows it. I went with Falcon to allow me to do that. (Don’t have that high of a ceiling) Great tips so many of us can relate to. Thx for sharing Dunna.
At 3:15 of the video you show your key light and the shotgun mic is mounted on the c stand, I use varipoles for my lights and want to do this with my mic to mount it over my head instead of on my camera/tripod. What clamp/device are you using there to mount it?
Just getting back to production after a lot of years somewhat out of it. Had to laugh a bit with the sound blankets though. Reminded me of when I was doing my own outdoor TV show circa 2000 and I used to drape comforters from my bed over a closet door and around the closet to create my own voice over sound booth. and our first "lighting kit" was some 300w dual head halogen work lights from home depot with diffusing gels (aka tracing paper or some sheer material like pantyhose or thin sheet). All shooting the latest and greatest "prosumer" (as that became a word back then, I don't event think it is a thing as much anymore) gear. This coming from the most cost limiting BetaSP cams and the first AVID and Media100 NLEs. Crazy to think the original cost of either one camera or the Media100 NLE would probably cover much of your studio set up. Really an amazing time for content creators to start relatively inexpensively, but also have access to high end equipment for what I see as a little more. Anyway, cheers and thanks for the break down.
An excellent clip, and yes, PLEASE consider doing an in-depth Audio segment as it is super tough to grip, and resolve colour modes are a nightmare... Thanks
Look at that luxury of space. In my work area I can stand in the middle of the room, stretch out my arms and touch the walls on all sides. We make the best of the space we have, that's for sure.😀
Love the details you go into in this Dunna, especially around the grading. We've been running an improv podcast for the last 18 months and 2022 is where I'd love to up our audio game so an in-depth audio process video would be sick.
Hey Dunna, have you tried the Promptsmart app? It has voice track scrolling, so it starts and stops when you do. No more remotes! Absolute game changer for me.
I don’t think I’ve tried that one specifically but I tried one other with voice activation that didn’t work too we’ll. But I’ll give Promptsmart a shot too! Thanks for the suggestion!
Just when I thought Gerald Undone is the biggest Tech Nerd (in a good way) 😳 WOW! Great Job Donna! It's time for me to build my studio and start RUclips. This video is the best example that you don't need a lot of space to build a home studio!
Haven't watched too much of your channel yet but I gotta say I think your RUclips Studio setup looks top notch. I will absaloutely be watching more of your videos in 2022... subscribed!

Wow, You have so much knowledge about entire production/postproduction process. Any possibility to see a tutorial how to mix dialogue? Would love to see it :)
Dunna .. can u make a video on how to place the acoustic panels & foams, blankets etc .. properly to acoustically treat a small room like this ? it will be a very useful video
Fellow audio engineer turned RUclipsr/video creator here. Would LOVE to see your audio process. Big fan of the FabFilter stuff myself! Loved this breakdown too!
I am a total nerd too.....I love the setup and I also enjoy using Waves audio plugins. I need to check out the ones you mentioned here. Great video as always!
Dude, I just want to hang out with you and listen to you talk. So much information on all sorts of subjects. Thanks for creating this vid. Other content creators need to learn how to share like you did. Not once did I hear I'm going to tell you about this, you just did it. Going to order some lights today.
love it! I'm bouncing light off my white roof but looking at yours at the back might be considering another soft box. Really cool look and great setup and I like how things are moving away from that dark and moody emo style.
I have pretty much the same size room so this was extremely helpful. If you don't mind me asking where did you get that shelf behind you and do you remember the name? That would be great to replace my $20 target shelf that's like 10 years old and falling apart.
Man! I've watched your videos for the last few years (since I started working with video). Like you, I come from a professional audio background. Seeing your progress is so inspiring! Your coloring really clicks with me. Then you topped it off with the audio BTS, and I'm like yes! I'm not alone! This is my favorite video from you so far. Thanks again, and I'm about to hit that bell.
Small point of order: The Sennheiser mic is an MKH-416, not an NKH-416 as you said (and printed) in the video. This mic is widely used by us VoiceOver guys, and is known in some circles as "the Hollywood mic" because of its wide use on movie trailers and TV promos.
I definitely said MKH in the video and I even showed the name of the mic, looks like it’s just an error with the captioning thanks for pointing that out, I’ll fix it next time I’m at a computer.
Ex-audio engineer, turned pro photographer, turned full-time RUclipsr here... Love the setup! And you can never get too nerdy. Ever. Man, the placement and usability of that wall mounted 120D is off the charts. 👌

Amen to the whole ‘from managing sound-to-doing that AND visuals as well’ kinda challenge!
But we like challenges, yes we like challenges!!!

I like this idea of a "Basics guide" Great work as always. Beers if you are ever in Vancouver.
Consider it added to my “ideas” list.
Would love this as well.
Same here!
That would be amazing

I REALLY like your, "All of time is happening at once," sign. That instantly humbles me in the best possible way.

Huge nerd 🤷🏻♂️
Donna, definitely Audio Editing tutorial ... a must video, especially with your background...YES PLEASE.
I’m absolutely in love with this set up! It’s both practical and amazing looking! Taking notes!
I’m a musician / audio guy also, mostly on the UAD platform. Count me as one vote for more info on how and why you are using the audio plugins.
Cudos from a live sound engineer pushing his video production company. Sound is more than 50% of the success of the vid! Thanks for such an in-depth tour.
Great video and gave me tons of ideas ! Thanks
Audio tutoriallll pleaseeeeeeeeeee!!! The breakdown was incredible Dunna ! The blue trick out of your skin tones shows how much thought and care goes into making the videos. 😍
Sick video man! This might be the tipping point for me going Resolve. Looks like it runs circles around Premiere for grading.
It does… 100%
Hey what’s up Brian, Resolve was born with only grading in mind. I will be switching back from FCP eventually.
Do it man! It has gotten some amazing updates lately and it's great for everything.
I tested all 3 major NLE’s over the past year and resolve is my favorite for editing, grading, effects, and audio workflow. It just crushes.
I wish I'd watched this a year ago! My new studio is also quite small but I've nerded out as usual, so it's going to be interesting to see how it looks. Such a great showcase of your office and so jealous of everything 😍
I just found this older one and love it. Great to feel your professional approach shining through. Thanks!
Monitor + App is super awesome, no brainer for everyone with an iPad and a Sony Cam
Wow that audio workflow is definitely something I would watch.
An audio tutorial showing all those fancy plugins would be amazing!
What an incredible space!
I really dig those magnetic lights a lot.
Definitely a well utilized space! Totally agree on mounting lights up off the walls where you can! I have zero light stands on the floor in my studio.
The black paper in the windows is a genius cheap hack! Thats the biggest problem I have in my very small office space as well. Thanks!
Great sounding audio...definitely knew there was some audio engineering experience. Respect
This is one of the most informative, to the point and generally amazing setup videos i've seen.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

This is the first video that I've seen of you and now I am an official SUBSCRIBER.
So glad I was able to grab the Accusonous plugins before they shut down! So far, they have been the best audio plugins.
Definitely want to learn more about those audio programs/plugins!
This video gave me different ideas when it comes to image processing. I feel confident to start making videos anytime.

I’ve just started using monitor +. It’s great especially when I can’t access the camera easily say in the middle of shooting a podcast or something
great video, clear and concise guide for those of us that want to up our game.
I'm starting my own studio so I appreciate you sharing how yours is setup. Thank you!
Cheers!
Awesome. Nice getting a behind the scenes look at your process.
Yes please on the desk setup video! 👊🏼
everything's lookin and sounding real good brother!
Great walk-through, gear and process videos are always greatly appreciated.
Hands down the best setup video I've seen. And yes to more in-depth tutorials on everything. 👍
Another Monitor+ convert 🤙🏻
Very good, straight forward information. Loved this video. Thanks for the info.
This is the best lighting I've ever seen
At 3:15 of the video you show your key light and the shotgun mic is mounted on the c stand, I use varipoles for my lights and want to do this with my mic to mount it over my head instead of on my camera/tripod. What clamp/device are you using there to mount it?

Just when I thought Gerald Undone is the biggest Tech Nerd (in a good way) 😳 WOW! Great Job Donna! It's time for me to build my studio and start RUclips. This video is the best example that you don't need a lot of space to build a home studio!
I was thinking aboout how to add/redo my home recording/youtube studio and boom, saw this video. Appreciate the info.
Need a video on audio setup, that would be so helpful, for so many newbie creator out there including me🥳
Thank you
This has to be the only RUclips setup video with a shout out to Fab-Filter. Love it!
Haven't watched too much of your channel yet but I gotta say I think your RUclips Studio setup looks top notch. I will absaloutely be watching more of your videos in 2022... subscribed!
Thanks!!
Very interesting setup. Lot's of good recordings in the future 👋
Wow Dunna! So inspiring! That nerd part explains a lot! Years of experience along with that nerd level passion is what sets anyone apart! 👌🏻
I’m also interested in audio. I do audio engineering work on the side, but wouldn’t consider myself a pro. But I’d 100% watch any videos you make on the topic.
computer setup right NOW! love how you used the small space in such a creative way.
Lol I’m about to get a new computer so we’ll see what that looks like lol
That was incredibly useful - thanks for taking the time to run through things so thoroughly
Would love to hear more about the audio setup in a future vid! Maybe take a two-pronged approach where you offer tips for 80% of people to get 'good enough' audio, then share the over-the-top configuration for those wanting to go the extra mile?
That’s a good idea! It’s always tough because I just go ALL the way most of the time, but I try to throw in the disclaimer that it’s overkill haha
Your studio is a mega sized treasure chest! Super awesome setup man!
Thanks so much!!
Yes to the audio video!
I am a total nerd too.....I love the setup and I also enjoy using Waves audio plugins. I need to check out the ones you mentioned here. Great video as always!
Another commenter wanting you to make a more in depth video on the editing from start to finish because this is sickkk Thanks!
Love this walkthrough. We're about to build a 6x8' studio in the back of a garden... will take a few tips for sure 🔥
Dude, I love your setup, really helps motivate me more when I'm currently busy building a podcast studio setup.
Please do a video for processing audio. That's the biggest pain point in my workflow now.
THANK YOU! Been looking for good sound curtains 🤜🤛 great video man, learned a lot!
Wow! Those 15 years of experience show!
Awesome space man! Really cool to see how you have made every inch of your office. FX3 gang!
Would love to see a deep dive into your fab audio workflow. Thanks!

Yes. Please give us the desk tour.
I have pretty much the same size room so this was extremely helpful. If you don't mind me asking where did you get that shelf behind you and do you remember the name? That would be great to replace my $20 target shelf that's like 10 years old and falling apart.
You're right. Understand bit by bit, then try to make a simple soft. You will learn as ti goes on. Even if it's havoc, don't worry, co
Man! I've watched your videos for the last few years (since I started working with video). Like you, I come from a professional audio background. Seeing your progress is so inspiring!
