Rachel actually works these out herself , they don’t tell her, she is a maths genius, she has a Masters Degree in Mathematics she gained at Oxford University, she sometimes says it could be done multiple different ways on certain numbers games 😀
No, Rachel is legitimately that good at maths. You're going to see that "they" don't tell her what the solution is, when she has to bring out a pen and paper in some of the episodes.
This is arithmetic but she’s also good at maths
@NZExperience He said, while pushing his glasses up his nose
Yes. Just as Jimmy is a comedian, Rachel really IS a mathematician, Susie IS a lexicographer, and Joe is a ...
... actually, no one knows the answer to that.
@@AgentOccam Homeless.
Shame she's such a horrible person
When you say that they're telling the lady NO she's a mathematic expert she does it self, and the lady works for the English Oxford dictionary who's sitting down....
it's clearly difficult to believe that someone could be intelligent.
I'm fairly certain he just meant Sean and Jon were telling her how they "did it." She hadn't gotten to the actual answer part yet.
Course she is not been told. She is a matamaticion. If she was getting the the answer its not a game.
This show just gets better with each new series. Sean and John get new teammate each week. And Rachel, the letters and numbers girl is a legitimate genius with the math'S'.
Susie Dent is a lexicographer by profession she got a BA degree in modern languages at Oxford University and her Masters in German at Princeton.
The two experts Suzy and Rachel are legitimately that good at this. Nobody feeds them answers, youll see in some later episodes that some of them are legitimately a struggle and take them longer than the 30 seconds to solve
“I couldn’t see past pork!” might be my new ringtone! 🤣
I'm so glad you're enjoying it. The show only improves from here, and the fact you already get how to play the game makes it so much more enjoyable! You'll love every episode, so please keep going
Hey! I saw you in the audience! :D
You've lost me @watchreadplayretro
At 14:15 (for a few seconds, there you are! lol) @@TommyIgaro
Carrot in a box!!
A masterpiece....😂😂😂
Beamrules.
Trilogy available on RUclips with Sean, RIP, John, Lee Mack.
Yes!
I agree. But maybe after they know the show a little better. And the people on it. Adds to the fun?
You made is so fun because you both joined in & played along.. more of these please
Rachel is a maths genius, nobody tells her how it's done.
The original countdown was the first thing ever aired on channel 4.
8 out of 10 cats does countdown gets funnier and funnier. The captains have a guest partner and stars such as Lee Mack , Jonny Vegas and everyone’s favourite Bob Mortimer appearing .
I am glad I am not the only person to go word blind when playing along 😅
I used to watch this daily and play along when my children were younger. I absolutely love countdown and word quizzes generally. The more you do, the better you get xx
In the actual Countdown programme, winners just get a teapot.
It's all about nerd glory.
This version of Countdown gets really good when they have two comedians on each team.
Rachel Riley is a maths genius she does all the adding up herself just like carol vornderman before her
The original show started over 40 years ago. The trick is that the game is so simple you can understand it in 2 minutes, but it is always competitive. The 30 second timer makes such a difference. When the this comedy version of the show starts it is a 2 vs 2 team game mainly so you can have more comedians and jokes.
I'm always astonished how well Susie is aging. She looks incredible really 😮
If you see the real countdown. Weekdays afternoon on CH4, there are some extremely good contestants.
Also nobody is telling Rachel Riley the numbers in her earpiece. She’s great at numbers, hence they employed her.
I believe she has a masters in quantum mechanics or something wild
@@TommyIgaro she even gets the conundrum at the end, when sometimes both contestants don't manage to get it
Writing the letters in a circle, helps me Jodie
If you get the numbers round spot on, you get 10 points. If you can get closest, within 10, you get 7 points. So you don't necessarily have to get it spot on.
Fans of 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown watch it for the comedy. The games are only incidental.
This program is one of my favorites. Which is challenging from The States.
From the UK.
Enjoying seeing reactions to this.
Wait until it gets funnier!
Really enjoy your videos.
I've found over the years that if you don't wait until all the letters are there, but make words as each letter appears, then it becomes slightly easier. Hence I had Pet, Tape, Team, Tamper, Primate. However I was nowhere near whereon/whereupon, I had a 'five'.
The difference between a season and a series is a season is usually a yearly thing where as a series is a series of episodes that are complete in themselves so then you can have multiple series in a season(year).
Rachel is a well known mathematician and absolutely amazing at it. She does the regular more serious countdown show for that reason too.
It gets so much better as it goes along. I play along but my girlfriend just watches it for the later comedy skits they do during the countdown (and probably Fabio).
The more often you try the better you will get, I had huge problems at the beginning too.
Rachel is a mathematician, she is on the normal countdown as well, she isn’t getting someone telling her
Susie Dent was a lexicographer for the Oxford Dictionary
Loving the quick turnaround of these 👏🏻👏🏻😍🥰👍🇬🇧
Rachel Riley has a degree in Mathematics from Oxford University. There is no one in her earpiece telling her the solution, she is that good at Maths
A tip for the maths round is to at first, not worry about using the same number twice. Then, if you can get there, see if you can change the order of operations or add some brackets to make it work. e.g. for the 981 I also got to 975 and figured I could get there if I had a second 3, then went back in my working to before I multiplied by 2 to functionally get that double three
Thanks guys, great content watching and playing along. Can't wait to see more of the same. The show just gets better and better.
Rachel the girl who does the maths has been doing the original daytime show for 14 or so years and the lady who does the English dictionary has been doing it for at least 30 years.
Love that you guys are so into the game 😂😂
Really enjoyed this played along with you so fun
Another seven letter word for the pirate round was 'Migrate'.
In the whereon round there is actually a nine letter word that can be made that actually can be seen in the shot of the dictionary, 'Whereupon'. (Side note: I had paused the video before dictionary corner had figured it out. I had wrongly assumed they were going to let that one slip. I got excited that I had come up with a nine letter word.)
The episodes after Joe got fired by Jimmy are the best. Joe then keeps returning to interrupt the show in order to help Rachel with the numbers.
Countdown has long been a staple of British tv with much bigger viewer ratings prior to the 90s when we only had 4 terrestrial tv channels.
As cable and satellite tv became more popular, countdown was often joked about as typically being watched predominantly by pensioners but that's not strictly true. It's kind of a guilty pleasure for many of all ages but they don't want to look uncool.
The way 8 out of 10 cats does it is incredibly enjoyable and that guilty pleasure aspect goes away. Those that struggle with the games can now join in sporadically and if not, then they can just enjoy the comedy aspect alone. You won't find too many people that struggle to admit that they watch and enjoy this version.
If Jodi thinks she's bad at countdown just wait until you get to the episodes with Roisin Conaty 🤣🤣🤣
Before Rachel, we had Carole Vorderman, she’s also a mathematical whizz!
Rachel is a mathematician and quantum physicists, she's doing it.
You need to watch the more modern episodes, the comedy brings tears to the eyes.
Rachel is doing the maths she is a mathematician
Around season 10-20 is when it peaked. There are multiple episodes with WILTY favourites like Bob Mortimer and Claudia Winkleman.
I knew it would come back to bite Jodi on the ass when she said she doesn't do math, she teaches English
'Migrate' got it in seconds :P
Good skills Nick, impressive!
Rachel is a Math genius, this becomes apparent as the seasons go on, remember this was the pilot episode, more team members and outrageous comedy incoming.
Also technically there are 4 seasons in a year, Nick... :)
Keep the ball rolling with this great content 💯❤️✌️
Rachel Riley has degree in Mathematics from Oxford. In other parts of the world, beautiful women also get educated.
what has womens looks have to do with education 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha, love it, you two are hooked on this game.
Love you guys...I play along too...I've got a degree too n was math teacher. I'm no better than you guys, maybe at maths..but first time you played! It's a national institution this game, n this a fun spin on it! Love watching u guys❤
Excellent 👌🏽👌🏽makes the video with you playing along😂👍🏽I look forward to the next. Eventually they develop so that there are 2 players on each team for even better comedy banter👍🏽
Rachel is a maths wizz! Don't dis the Rachel, heehee.
What kind of teachers are you? Well I know it cat be maths and English 😂😜
Would have thought whoever recommended show to you would have explained the format, so glad you not just watching best bits
Love this reaction guys. You're so close to watching Carrot in a box, please make it soon
To make it easier for you to say Nick, we mainly call it cats does countdown! 😁 And oh, Rachel really is that smart!
Anyone can have a bad day doing the things they are normally pretty good at... On this episode Susie Dent missed a nine letter word... And I've also seen where Rachel Riley couldn't solve a particularly difficult mathematical conundrum... But a member of the studio audience could solve it... And actually explained to Rachel how to solve the mathematical conundrum... So nobody's perfect... And anyone can have a bad day in their chosen profession... So don't feel too bad about it... As we're only human after all guys. 👍
Rachel has a master's in math from Oxford University.
WLTY series 16, ep:6 (KitKat), ep:10 (unseen bits). Towards the end of each episode, Bob Mortimer is on good form driving David Mitchell to a nervous breakdown.😂
This show gets much better when they start having two guests on each team ......
The goal of the number game is to ger the number OR get closer to the number than your opponent.
Yea rachel and susie are incredibly smart. But maybe a lot of us brits are really good at these games since we played along since kids. Like id always come home from school and deal or deal or countdown would be on, sometimes theyd let us watch countdown in school and us boys would roast each other and fight about who won haha, kids love it, my girlfriends little sister i remember was insane when she was like 10 at it.
Enjoying watching these. Maybe jump ahead to later series when there were two celebs on each team. Not sure about you "pausing" though, to find an answer is ok!!
Okay. Now you have the gist of the show, please please look up more. They get funnier and funnier.
Yes they get better and better...needed time to bed in
You might think the teapot is a joke - that's the actual prize for the series winner of the real Countdown.
Still going on, the newest episode just aired. This show has always given nerds a way to do Scrabble and math while giving comedy GOLD!
If you keep watching Roisin is best.... Well worst....
Jodi abandoned English cos she was so disappointed at how had she was, I've been watching the genuine show and the cats version for most of my adult life, off and on, and still chuffed when i get a decent word or manage to solve the numbers, its not as easy as it looks, great reaction as always, looking forward to more
"I'm _just_ *six* away."
i think its great your doing this guys, it makes for a great show, i hope you continue, nice to have bit of rivalry, bet it contiues off camera lol
This is and mid have been said before a spin off from a more serious show, the exact same format
great job guys
Keep it up funny asf Andy from Morecambe northwest England 🏴 🇬🇧 🇺🇸✌️
Joe Wilkinson poem on this programme is hilarious
Rachael really is that smart.
when you write down your letters, write them in a circle.
The cats version is far better than the straight version of countdown.
I've never seen the early episodes at some point they changed the format. Kept Sean and Jon as team captains but gave each a guest team mate.
Some of the best episodes were when Jon had his wife Lucy Beaumont (also a comedy performer) as his team mate.
Wait for the "Carrot in a box" episode. Its brilliant.
Count down been on British TV since the early 80s with normal people 8 out of cats count down is new but the normal 80s
Yes, more
Carrot in a box is brilliant...
Under the pressure I not good really good to hear coming for a teacher 🤷🤷🤷🤷😂 (kidding)
I got one away by subtracting the 5 after the way u done it
As a teenager, I'd play along with my mum.
If you can find it, check out the clip when Catherine Tate is a guest, trying to work out the maths
You should watch a mashup of the original and ongoing countdown.
You think a season a year? There's 4 seasons in a year. Spring, Summer..........😂
No cheating!! Only English spellings, so no words like color (colour) etc. 😂
I'm pretty sure american spelling is allowed. At least words with z instead of s.
I actually think susie dent been doing count down since the 92 too she looks good for her age being almost 60
"I cant do math, i teach english", are you sure 😂
Keep going 😊😊
This show will be a bit standard at first but it gets into a lot more humor soon.
Especially while people are trying to solve the problems, Jimmy and Rachel try to distract them and it gets pretty crazy.
Four seasons in a year, so not a hard concept, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter. Go Nick or Jodi, not watched yet.
Here we/I go.
Yep. You have to react to Carrot in a box. One of the best games you will ever see. There were a few rematches but you’ve got to start with the original one.
Hope you stick with 8ootcdc, it's such a fantastic show and has become an institution. Math and Word games mixed with brilliant comedy. What more could you want? 😊
Susie dent is a lexicographer
Please check Carrot in a box out.😂😂😂
No it's her doing it 💯
I wondered where you got the name from boring reviews…today I got it.
What a pathetic thing to type , it's people like you that ruin comment sections .
Rachel is did maths at Oxford so I would say she's clever.
