Bear in mind, this is the cast of 8 out of 10 cats playing on the set of Countdown. It was only supposed to be a couple of one-off specials but they proved so popular they were continued.
Susie is a lexicographer and has written 14 books on the topic so she does not have someone telling her things in her ear
I think that you're mistaken . However brainy and gods with words someone is, it's very unlikely that ANYONE would get the longest possible word every single time. Also, she quite often has to check in the dictionary what the longest word means, as they can be very obscure.
@@SouthCoastRichshe doesn't get the longest word every time.
@@SouthCoastRichChecking in the dictionary on this show is what they have always done (as in normal Countdown that's been on for many many years). The reason is so that they give the precise Dictionary explanation of the word not because she doesn't know the words basic meaning (although at times maybe that's the case). She is also not limited to the 30 seconds rule so she has far longer to find more words. I'm not saying you're incorrect as it is possible they use an earpiece as well but I don't think that's ever been mentioned if that happens. Id genuinely be Interested to know if they did do that as I always assumed no.
I've done some research on this and, apparently, producers may "occasionally" advise Susie via an earpiece if they think that they've found a longer word than she is. Susie Dent apparently commented that they like to give viewers as much info as possible. So I suppose that most or all of us in this thread have included at least some correct or partially correct comments here. 😊👍
Rachel Riley who does the numbers has an MA in Applied Maths from Oxford (and remember in UK universities you don’t Major in a subject - it’s the *only* thing you do for 3-4 years). And of course Susie Dent is a lexicographer as Jimmy frequently points out
Saying Rachel Riley is quite cute is like saying a Bugatti Veyron is quite fast
She becomes less attractive when you know her political views, if of course you agree with them
They absolutely do not have anyone giving them jokes in their ear, this is British and Irish culture honed to perfection - humour is much more important in every day life than in the US and is used much more, Jimmy has the introductory jokes but that’s it (later you do get more pre-prepared spots like the mascot bits and the dictionary corner spot).
Are you 100% sure about this . I always thought mock the week was spontaneous but it isn’t . They’ve given the information earlier and then that way they can come up with material
Correct! It's improvised comedy at its best.
I’m afraid not. It’s heavily prepped, collectively and individually but with a lot of space for off the cuff jokes and banter. They’re all heavily prepped.
Jokes in the ear, no. Prepped jokes, most definitely. And not just Jimmy.
Can’t recall who it was but a comedian who guest starred once said, that’s there’s loads of waiting about whilst they work on their ‘bits’.
@@ticklemetrout9625true I saw MTW being filmed once, took ages as the re did the comedy.
Hi guys. Don’t worry yourselves about following the episodes. The pleasure (& enjoyment) is jumping in @ anytime, as the evolution of this show (like WILTY) gets better & better.
and they are better a year+ in because they've found their way to make a cool comedy vrsion of coutndown. These first ones were almost like the real ones.
Stick with this and keep going, it gets better and better
It's always very funny, though later series work better as they had teams of comedians, not just John and Sean. So, there is more interactions.
Agreed 👍
I can happily watch you watching these shows! You can tell you both enjoy them! keep them coming guys!
They began with a half hour trial then with adverts, made it an hour show and Jimmys intro then takes up the first 20 minutes.
To clarify... it’s not how many words you get, rather the word using the most letters! Players get points for each letter used in the word they use.
They know that don't they?. I just think she was trying to write down everything she came up with to help her not double words.
You 2 are just ace! I love your channel. Please stick with 8OO10C as it gets better and better as the series goes on. There's loads of hilarious footage of this game show on YT that'll give you a flavour of the chaos and hilarity that ensues.
Not long until you hit 100k guys! Keep up the great work. 👊🏻👍🏻👍🏻
RIP Sean lock what a legend.
So many belly laughs to come. So many different comedians coming .
"FOEMAN" as in, "enemy in war". A little archaic, but still viable.
You have know opened the doors of fun
Really enjoyed this reaction guys, please watch more, i look forward to watching you every morning ❤😂
They always make a silent joke in the 30 seconds you need to see XD
There's not much they can do about that. They really seem to enjoy playing the game so for me it's fine that they'll just have to miss most of it.
FOXING - like dogging, but more rural.
is an age-related process of deterioration that causes spots and browning on old paper documents such as books, postage stamps, old paper money and certificates. I'm proud of myself, but I only know it because I used to date a book-restorer.
I love Susie Dent I saw her show at the theatre it was fascinating, amusing and she is stunning in real life
Carrot in a box
You should do an episode of proper countdown, for a bit more context and to see how good the genuine contestants are.
Carrot in a box, carrot in a box!
This show is amazing, but you definitely don't need to watch them in order. And it gets better when they figure it out a bit more.
Here's a tip, look for the end of words first, eg if you have the letters I, N and G there are thousands of possibilities for what could go in front of them.
Great stuff. Keep them coming
2 pieces of paper shown. Jodie's appeared to have more effort so for that reason TEAM JODIE RULES.
This is you fly-fishing instructor, excellent presentation..!! Robin.
The best thing about British TV is that you can say anything you wnt after 9PM without it getting bleeped out. Which is something I don't get with American late night talk shows, even after 10PM you can't swear
I once read the watershed in Australia is actually 7.30 ...quite different down there.
My new favourite clip reaction series you do 👍👏🏻😍🥰😁🇬🇧
Think the later ones with two on a team are more fun 😊
I got 'Banishes'
Magnox as in Magnox Nuclear Reactor
I got that, Roger, but had to disallow it because it begins with a capital letter. Grrr.
I adore Jodi.
I got mango for the first one (and OxFam) and by 14:30, I had banshee.
Beans mean baine game, Fang!
Goof!
Hey, at 15:18 I had "heinies" for 7 too, she's not far off.
You should check out Sean Lock's best bits and Joe Wilkinson's poem
Looking forward to you guys reacting to Carrot in a Box'. '
you need 8 out of 10 cats does countdown with Bob Mortimer partnered with Sean Lock against Sarah Millican with Catherine Ryan.
Parts are fine. It's not hard to watch the next part once they're all out.
Like the show when Sean & John, get guest teammates,
Just noticed you wife and suspected Dent look quite similar. Can't recall if it's 8 out of 10 cats dose countdown of just 8 out of 10 cat's but there's one called carot in a box it's very funny 😊😊😊😊
You can’t use the same letter twice 👍🏻👌🏻❤️🇬🇧
You should skip to the season where they play teams and Joe Wilkinson joins in as Rachel Riley's Assistant which happens half way through the show
I thought Magnavox on those first 4 letters too. But you could have had Magnox .
No, both are capitalised.
This was a bit of an experiment after the original idea proved popular . Incidentally proper nouns aren't allowed . A bit more comedy injected whilst still keeping the game fairly important . The series proper seed John & Sean joined by guest comedians to make teams and is much more anarchic leading to some classic comedy moments .
Magnox that what i picked
I'm pretty sure Suzie has something on her computer that gives her possible words then she double checks them in the dictionary for show.
Someone else was saying she might have an ear piece and be told. If she had a computer she could get the max every time so I do hope that's not the case. I always assumed she was getting them herself as on occasion the player has gotten longer words than she was able too. Remember as well that she isn't limited to the 30:second rule.
Ahem. Long subscriber so maybe that’s it but how many times does Jodie get a new haircut? 😜
Excellent 👍🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽❤️❤️
John Richardson is now married.
You have to watch 8OTCDC Carrot in a Box and the rematch, it's like watching WILTY
Any word that you come up with must be in the dictionary, but it is an English dictionary. Which means that it is allowable to come up with an American word - for instance faucet (tap) or cilantro (coriander) etc - but it is not allowed to come up with an American spelling as opposed to the English spelling i.e color instead of colour.
hasbeen - I lose
Hasbeen.
Try writing the letters down in a circle
I thought the two of you were teachers
hasbeen...
Hi Jodie, I think that at time stamp 17:48 you'll realise that you misspoke and actually meant to say "I couldn't care less" didn't you?
I'd say it that way too but your comment comes across as condescending. Read what you've written, it's so passive aggressive. In America they say it in a way that doesn't quite make sense, that IS how most Americans say it and I'm sure she said it exactly as she meant to. If you wanted to bring up how Americans and other countries like Britain say it differently then you should say that but the way you've just done it is almost like you're talking to a child. That's not cool.
They could of had Mongo Before anyone loses their mind it's a monetary unit of Mongolia,
For the second one i got Beanies. as in the head wear
United States
Mongo, Indiana, United States, an unincorporated community.
Banish for second one
Is Jodie okay?.She looks a little sad.(English bloke)
Brave advocat 31
16:00 I got “ Hasbeen “ or Is it hyphenated?!
Me too,.it is hyphenated so not sure that's allowed.
You are missing half the fun when you keep trying to solve the puzzles ....
Surely it's about perspective. Watch them, they enjoy playing the game, that IS fun to them. They can't do both so I'm fine if they chose the fun of playing over seeing the 30 Jimmy Carr bit.
Sean could of had moog.
There's nobody telling her answers in her ear . Please read the comments & understand that fact 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I don't know now. Someone else said she might (in this day and age) have a computer to help in some way. I genuinely would like to know the answer from a Countdowny source. Personally, I'd always assumed she done it herself and that was part of the game as well, she isn't limited to the 30 second rule so that would definitely help.
Jasur birodar 40
No one in her ears....
Dude.
Don’t tease her for brainstorming words. That’s how brains work.
Banish
