    I don't think you've yet grasped that no one cares about the scores on panel shows and celebrity quizzes, even though guests may pretend to every now and again, to humorous effect. They're really always about the interplay between the guests. It's all about the conversation, wit, banter and humour. :) QI took it even further by not bothering to explain the scoring system. All we know is that you manage to avoid a negative score, at the end, you've done well... somehow. :)

    Yeah, this is the first one where the comedy really kicks off. A good few more episodes will come close to this level, but I think the original Goth Detectives in 2006, with David and Rob sulking and petulant by the end, remains the pinnacle of BFQ.

    The Take That reunion tour happened on my 40th Birthday party. The only people who turned up to my organised party in a local club was the people who couldn't get tickets for Take That.
    Later in the night I had to give a speech and I said " Even I am thinking that I should have tried harder to get those Take That tickets."...
    I feel sorry for my Mom and My Granny. My mom paid £200 for the use of the club and the DJ and My Granny put £200 behind the bar for drinks... There was still a good number of us in there about 60 or 70 but the club can handle 200. So it looked emptier than it was.
    We still had a great time. It was 80s themed so we were all dressed in 80s clothes. I found a dark pink trousers and jacket combo, like Miami Vice, and I wore a yellow smiley face t-shirt. Lot's of the girls were wearing large shoulder pads and even larger hair. My Mom, bless her, had tracked down some of my old school friends that I had not seen in 25 years so it wasn't as bad as I say...

    Swimming the English channel is not something anyone can do. It's 25 miles (22 at the closest points) in sea water that is about 5C in temperature.
    One or two miles a hour is what you can expect from a good swimmer. And yes there was support boats around him to give him food and water. Not even the best swimmer on the planet could go for that long without some fluid intake...
    I am going to just ride the spoiler line but in future episodes David is back and on another team is Eddie Izzard who once ran 30 marathons in 30 days or something like that. And he says that what he did was easy compared to swimming the channel.
    Running 25 miles every day for 30 days is easy compared to swimming the channel...
    Just think about that.
    Swimming the channel is very very tough. And not something to be taken lightly.

    • @6022
      @6022 8 месяцев назад +1

      If there's ever any doubt as to how challenging it would be, remember that at the evacuation of Dunkirk, there were 338000 troops stranded on the wrong side of the channel as the Germans approached. Some were desperate enough to try and swim for it. There are no recorded cases of any soldier swimming all the way. Even at the very narrowest point, and with support, it's an extraordinary acheivement to make it across.

      They were mates and hung around together for a while after he left Take That. Noel was one of the first to hear some of his solo songs and was quietly impressed, though I'm sure he'd deny it now.
      I was a massive Oasis fan at the time, and it's why I decided to give Robbie a proper listen, because I absolutely detested Take That.
