    And Drone footage of the year goes to.....Ben Tayler! Perspective is everything. Seeing that swell grow and melt from the air is mesmerizing. Nice progression.

      thanks mate, yeahBen is killing it on the drone, check out his channel @foilfilms if you havent already. Yep the perspective is epic, i am focusing so hard on the destination way off in the distance when I am out there that I have no idea where I am until i see the footage

    Epic footage man, this is what drones were made for! Love the medium-wide angle shots where you get to see the maze and all its paths.

      thanks mate, yeah the wide angle shots are epic at showing one of the best things about downwind - an ocean all to yourself with endless bumps

    That looked awesome. It was nice seeing the hard part of getting up on the foil. And as usual, great drone work.

      Thanks Tony, it shows how things actually get easier the further out you go. When I was trying to paddle up I was in the wind shadow of the headland and there is insufficent fetch for decent size bumps to form

    Well done Cam. Pleased to see that list of yours is getting smaller. I used the foil drive to go upwind from the Nth wall Ballina last week and I must say its a lot harder than it looks. Great to see youre progressing well on your DW journey. Hope to be able to join you for a run soon I get my Sultan soon. Great video.

      hey mate good work having a goi from north wall. I have done 2 flatrock to northwall runs and its definately a harder spot than tallows to broken. The best spot to get a feel for the bumps is at the pass when its 15 knots N-NE. No car shuttle required and really good training for the more exposed ocean spots. going to hit it this arvo if your keen!

    Great surf foiling and great footage and tunes. This makes me want to add a downwind foil board to the quiver. But I'm also interested in foil assist but maybe the boards alot cheaper 😂

    • @camjrdn6318
      @camjrdn6318  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks mate! I would definitely recommend the dw board addition to the quiver. So good for winging too and you only need one board! Foil Drive is certainly one way to learn but I think its cool to be only powered by nature and your own body. It's difficult, but not that difficult that I would fork out for foil drive

    Curious to know if you’ve tried to prone paddle in to the runs with that board? Looks pretty epic for it

    • @camjrdn6318
      @camjrdn6318  9 месяцев назад +1

      Nah I have never tried paddling into bumops without the sup paddle. I have seen Mr Bennetts do it successfully a bunch of times on this run (using an 8ft board). It looks good but I dont think it will get going as well in lighter conditions (ie when base wind is less than 20 knots). I committed to learning with the sup paddle. If you get stuck paddling, you can cover alot more ground with the sup paddle than prone paddling so you wont be stuck in the ocean for as many hours

    Fug it . I'm gonna buy a downwind board ! I'm about 70kg , I can shred a 7.6ft 120 l sup , I can surf foil prone . I don't want to buy one then want a smaller one after. What size board you riding? What size board you think I will need, I'm thinking 6.6 x 19 x 100 litres or something ?

    • @camjrdn6318
      @camjrdn6318  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hell yeah!! If you are already a good SUP rider then that is going to help alot. I had done some SUP but not in a while and started with a 7 2 x 21 x 100L. That board got damaged and I had order a replacemenrt and at the time was struggling to get going so I went bigger and got 7'11" x 19" 115L. Until the new board was ready I have to borrow the blue board in these videos which is 7' x 18 x 100L and using this board it klinda clicked and I wish I ordered the new board with less volume. I am 75kg but the biggest wing I use is 970cm2, so depends what foils you are going to use. I would probably get something that is 7' 6" - 8' x 19 wide and maybe 100-110L for yourself. The really good guys are now getting boards over 8ft so they can get up as easy as possible and they are ripping hard so i dont think the length causes any problems, only benefits.

      I got a 6 11 x 19 x 99l it's challenging af . I can prone surf foil it 😂 good fun , I can sup paddle but yet to sup paddle take off . I've got my mast in the middle good for surfing but I'm wondering if I need it forward for flat water , down winder paddle up ? Will it make any difference?

    • @camjrdn6318
      @camjrdn6318  6 месяцев назад +1

      nice mate sounds like a good board you picked up. keep practicing with the sup paddling and throw some flatwater paddling in the mix if your not already doing it, then focus on being able to sup foil surf it which whill build your skills more and then you will be ready for paddling in the bumps.
      A big tip i found is actually moving the bast back makes it easier! This is because if you move it too far forward its gonna want to wheelie at low speed and will want to climb too fast and not get enough speed up to efficiently ride the foil. Instead you want to be able to build the speed of the board on the water without the foil lifting too fast. that way you can 'feather' it up.
      My other big bit of advice for getting up in the bumps (unless epic conditions) is that you need to keep paddling with the paddle until you are comfortably up and riding. This means paddling while youre halfway up on the foil and corrdinating paddling with the timing of your pumps.
