Welcome to our Berserk reaction!
Back at the camp, everyone is forlorn because of Griffith's terrible condition. The Raiders ask Guts to take them along with him. Casca feels she must take care of Griffith, and tells Guts to leave. Delirious and horrified at what he has been reduced to, Griffith takes off in a wagon and crashes into the river. He finds his Behelit and unintentionally activates it, taking everyone present to the Astral Realm.

5:23 it was at this moment that Guts realized that he already had what he was searching: companions, friends. In any other story, it would be a coming of age realization. In this story it is as if someones orchestrated the events to bring Griffith from the height of hope to the dept of despair.
The behelit opened a rift, merging the astral world with the real world in that small area. A behelit is activated when it owner is at their lowest point.

all guts ever wanted were true homies. a family....its heartbreaking that he only came to that realization amidst the tragedy with griffith. and to see griffith in the water like that, completely powerless and hopeless, almost resorting to suicide was so damn sad.

When tendons are ripped off 100% it's impossible to use the muscles of what the tendons were conected into, in this case wrists and ankles, phisically he shouldn't be able to walk nor grab, unless cirugy, I'm not sure if cirugy for tendons existed back then

Unfortunately with Griffiths tendons being cut he can move his limbs enough to walk or do much of anything without help. Cut tendons have to be fixed with surgery shorly after they are severed or else they will never heal on there own again, its like a broken rubber band

Ps. What Griffith was thinking upon Guts' approach was more understandable in the English dub.
He says "If you touch me now.....if you so much as touch my shoulder.....I'll never be able to......you and I....will never be"
The blank word is "friend". If Guts comes to his aid. If he approaches him during his lowest point, they'll never be able to be friends. This is because of what Griffith initially said about his followers and them not really being his friends in the earlier episode between he and Princess Charlotte by the fountain, which as we all know is why Guts left them to begin with.
