These last few episodes show how pathetic Griffith really is. He suffers one major set back (albeit it's a pretty messed up one) and instantly he gives up. By comparison Guts has had countless struggles in his life starting back on the day of his birth and yet he still presses on. On initial viewing the torturer may have destroyed Griffiths body, but all it really did was expose the ugliness that was inside of him all along for the outside world to see.
It wasn’t even worth it in the first place. The reason Guts presses through is because he lives for the sake of living and seeing what life has to offer. But everything Griffith did was for his obsession with a childish dream. And he was too arrogant to admit that it was Guts and the Band of the Hawk that carried him this whole way. Yeah he’s good at scheming, battle tactics, and sweet talking, but it was the battle victories that attracted the kings attention. Griffith didn’t fight those battles himself, and so many people died for his stupid dream. When that kid died, that should have been his wake up call. It was his chance to realize that his fantasy wasn’t worth pursuing, because he realized the cost of what he was doing. But instead of showing real sympathy for his fallen comrades, and dealing with the shame, he made it about him. He convinced himself that he alone must shoulder the burden and that’s why he let that other king… well you know. It’s also the reason why he never confesses his admiration and respect for Guts. Even when Guts reveals he’s leaving, what did Griffith do. He made it about him. And then he tried to handle it in the most prideful way possible. He had all this time to confess how much he values Guts, heck he could’ve done that when Guts was leaving. But he wouldn’t, not only because it would hurt his pride, but also because he would admitting to himself that he values something other than his dream. He didn’t rape Charlotte because he gave up. He raped her because his pride was hurt and the one thing that was more important than he dream was gone, and it was his own fault. But just like with the kid, and with Guts, he didn’t accept true responsibility, he didn’t deal with the shame and made it about him. “How could he do this to ME.” Then he just wanted to be petty and have some sense of control over the whole situation. The lesson I took from this is that it’s ok to have dreams and goals, but there are things that are more important and to takes maturity and humility to realize that. Once you realize that, you won’t step on others and use others to get somewhere. I think Gings final quote in HxH anime applies here.
It wasn't just a temporary setback. It was the total destruction of his dream. No tongue to command his armies. No strength in his arms to wield his own sword. No beautiful face to capture the hearts of his people. His dream was no longer possible. The torture of griffith took away everything he needed to achieve his dream. There would be no King Griffith. That's what made it so devastating for him and why he took that final chance to achieve his dream because he knew there was no other choice. Without the interference of the Godhand, his dream was officially dead. He would never be able to just get back up and try again. He couldn't even walk or talk. No one would follow a king who could not command his army or fight in battle. Griffith chose to sacrifice his friends for his dream because he knew that it was the only way it would ever happen.
I’m a certified Berserk stan, so it would be awesome for me if you reacted to the Memorial Edition/movies. There aren’t a lot of reactions to the Japanese dubs of the movies, so it would definitely be unique-ish content from a RUclips perspective. I love the movies almost as much as the 97 anime. There’s some janky CGI animation in parts, but it’s fine since it’s mostly used to supplement the regular animation. It’s really interesting to be able to compare scenes from the movies to the anime since there is a lot of overlap. Watch it! 🤙
cant wait for the last 2 eps
