    • @MitchZero9

      In terms of what exactly?
      Its not the most naturally appealing sport to most females and a few that have manage to go alright still haven't had the goods to complete at the highest of levels.
      For the same reason why we were whinging about Paul Romano being seconds slower 22 years ago, still no use throwing an uncompetitive driver in there now who will do the same thing just for the sake of equality development or whatever rubbish agenda its called this week.
      Simona was a payed driver. I liked her, she done okay, took a while to adjust to tin-tops and didnt have terrific equipment in the Nissans but lets be honest, it was a marketing gig and brought in sponsor dollars. Renae Gracie tried but went off to ride a dildo for dollars instead. I haven't kept up with Chelsea Angelos movements.
      No use claiming we havent developed as a sport/category (and beat a dead horse that is the whole equality agenda) when there are bugger all females wanting to race from the start, and the others who do aren't top tier material that sponsors want to support or fans want to watch.

    Thank you for sharing this. I think Castrol and Perkins helped to drive forward womens’ participation in Australian motorsports, even if it never showed in the top level. Simona De Silvestro came and showed that women can match it with the best in Supercars, and maybe we’ll see a homegrown challenger in the next few years who can push further on than recent racers such as Renee Gracie and Chelsea Angelo.

      I would think that leanne tander did the same thing Simona did but many years earlier. Leanne chose to forgo her racing career for family life which is her decision but she could definitely steer and I doubt she has lost much of her talent.

      The way I see it if they want to do it they should give it a go, start off in karts like anyone else, but the fact is a lot more boys are interested than girls are it's that simple really

      Motorsport I think is a great equaliser, we had great drivers like Christine Gibson, Leeanne Tander, that French lady who nearly won the world rally championship Michelle something back in the 80s, I for one would love to see more women competing in Motorsport.

    • @har234908234
      @har234908234 2 года назад

      As a casual observer, it would appear that the hard part has been getting parents (likely dads) to put their (young) daughters in karts and have both of them thinking it's the right place for them. The question of how to get more women at the top levels would appear to be a question of probability - Where: if the pool of female drivers is greater, then in similar proportions as there is elite male drivers to the overall pool of male drivers there should be more elite female drivers. Hard to know if Castrol Cougars style programs have much affect... the general dickishness (word chosen carefully!) of many to pan female drivers for being gimmicky when they don't show success may have a diminishing influence... no idea to be honest but there would appear to be more women racing now. Maybe in the future the smart strategy will be to get preteen girls sim racing?

      I know it's 9 months late haha, but yep car exists. It is in the museum at Mt.panarama! (Bathurst)
      And that car is in fact the VERY car that Perkins & Ingall drove from last to first to win the 1995 Bathurst!!
      Pretty wild history, it swapped hands half a dozen times before the current owner bought it and put it back to its 95' glory :)

  • @patrickparisienne1917

    Great initiative, but the truth is that that car was run as a shoestring effort. I remember at Sandown on Thursday all the work being done on the 2 main cars, and that car sat there all day.
    In the end you can assume not all the extra allocated money was spent on that entry any more than required, more so to augment the budget if the main cars. Larry was no fool….

    • @perkinsengineering
      @perkinsengineering  2 года назад +4

      Not sure that’s complete truth, the Cougars car had allocated mechanics and technicians, it also had its own transporter. Car was prepared the same as the others and maybe the Thursday you’re referring too the girls car was ready for Friday and the other 2 weren’t?

      That’s sounds completely fair if you were a rookie driver, as LP said in the footage just pay attention and take it all in, I doubt anybody including the drivers themselves expected to be front runners!
