Hi Joan-Marie, I made my first bag yesterday but I had an issue. After applying the napkin and letting the coat of mod podge dry,I went to apply second coat and there are spots the napkin was bubbling up and separating from the base. Can you suggest what I did wrong? I did apply 2 coats to prep like your video , used new mod podge. Can I fix it?
After placing the napkin on, any spot missing Mod Podge under it will bubble when you put on a top coat. Give every coat at least a day to dry/cure. Apply Mod Podge, using the same brush as I did. You can try ironing again. I also suggest practicing on scrap canvas (drop cloth) if you can. I also recommend you watch the video one more time. Good luck- Joan
You can also put the Fabric Mod Podge or DuraClear on the other side. I started doing both sides now, a little tricky on the sides but that’s a good alternative too! Have fun! 😃

Hi Karen! Yes the bag is 6 x 8. I used a guest size but a smaller lunch size will also work. Just open up a napkin you like and see how the design fits. - Joan 🙂
Hi Laurie! In most cases it’s ok to use a hairdryer to speed up the drying process. But not glass because the paint will crack. They should dry for a few days. Hope that helps! 🙂 - Joan
I did 2 canvas bags but they are both sticky after applying the second coat of mod podge fabric. Does the varnish in your video take away the tackiness of the mod podge?
Hi Maureen! Sure, that’s a great idea especially if you don’t want to do the back. Just make sure to put the card and parchment inside the bag before applying the varnish! Thank you for watching and I appreciate the feedback! ☺️- Joan
Hi Lori! You may have used too much MP. Apply 2 thin coats of MP, cover the entire surface, don’t miss a spot. Make sure the glue is completely dry because any glue that is not dry will turn into steam, that’s bubbles. Good luck- Joan
I have made several of these (like about 40) but when I use a little water to take the napkin off the top by the zipper much of the napkin comes off. I am using a lot of mod podge, do you know why this is happening?
Hi Riviera! You must make sure there is glue under the napkin up there. I use a very stiff brush I cut so it’s almost like an exact knife. I am also very picky . You can just cut it to fit instead. I love making these and I have s couple more coming out that are a bit easier. You will want to make another 40, lol hope that helps- Joan 🙂
You can on cold water gentle cycle, I don’t wash these bags. If you think the bag will get soiled and only put a napkin on one side, then put a coat of fabric MP on the blank side. Then you can wipe them off. - Joan

@@JoanMarieDomino Thanks!
How long do you usually wait between each layer of mod podge to dry? Is it totally dry when it’s no longer tacky?
Hi Karen! Yes when the sticky is gone. Could take a day or more. I almost always give lots of time for Mod Podge to dry, better results! 🙂 Joan
Awesome tutorial! Filled with tips and tricks and lots of inspiration! When I find Fabric Mod Podge and the Deco Art Duro Clear, I will definitely try this project. The Koala is so adorable! Are the bags waterproof after this technique?
Hi! Thank you so much! The front where you apply the napkin can definitely be wiped off with a wet cloth. If you do both sides, you can wipe off both sides. 🙂 Joan
@@JoanMarieDomino Thanks! You're awesome!
Does the fabric have to be a light color? I did this on a dark color shirt and it didn't work 🤷♀️
The napkin is too sheer so the background will show thru. Better off sticking to lighter fabric and the colors will pop! - Joan
Did you use the 6”x 8” bag? If so, what napkin size did you use to cover entire front?
Hi Karen! Yes the bag is 6 x 8. I used a guest size but a smaller lunch size will also work. Just open up a napkin you like and see how the design fits. - Joan 🙂
Is it OK to use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process?
Hi Laurie! In most cases it’s ok to use a hairdryer to speed up the drying process. But not glass because the paint will crack. They should dry for a few days. Hope that helps! 🙂 - Joan
@@JoanMarieDomino yes it does thank you
I did 2 canvas bags but they are both sticky after applying the second coat of mod podge fabric. Does the varnish in your video take away the tackiness of the mod podge?
Yes that’s why I included in the video. Fabric MP will remain sticky for awhile. Thanks for tuning in
Do you ever varnish the back of the bag so that it’s resistant to getting dirty?
Hi Maureen! Sure, that’s a great idea especially if you don’t want to do the back. Just make sure to put the card and parchment inside the bag before applying the varnish! Thank you for watching and I appreciate the feedback! ☺️- Joan
If my napkin gets bubbles after applying mod podge after ironing, does it mean I didn't use enough mod podge?
Hi Lori! You may have used too much MP. Apply 2 thin coats of MP, cover the entire surface, don’t miss a spot. Make sure the glue is completely dry because any glue that is not dry will turn into steam, that’s bubbles. Good luck- Joan
Are these washable..
No, spot clean only.
Can these be washed in a machine afterwards please?
You can on cold water gentle cycle, I don’t wash these bags. If you think the bag will get soiled and only put a napkin on one side, then put a coat of fabric MP on the blank side. Then you can wipe them off. - Joan
Where can I buy canvas bags from please

Can you do it without the iron?
