You are just explaining why you do what you do to get a better finish. Thank you for the tutorial, it was very enlightening on how to do decoupage. 🙂
This is very pretty, something I would like to try. And your directions are so clear and detailed. Thank you.
What a beautiful human being you are my dear, wow your tutorials made me so happy, it's a peaceful moments for me ...Thank you 🌷
Your directions are so clear and complete! Thank you so very much for sharing a wonderful project that will be fun to do, but also so practical.
Pro Tip! Put parchment inside the bag anyways...or do a test area. My bag was obviously not as thick as the one in the video and I had to scrape cardboard out from the inside because the glue bled through the bag 😢
My canvas bags were pretty thick unlike the zipper cosmetic bags from my other video. Parchment paper is a must with thin fabric. Sorry this happened to you😘 Joan
Thanks!
Thankyou for your tutorial. Ive never mod podge on fabric before. Ive just finished my 1st ever attempt and it looks lovely
Wow! Congratulations! 😻 🎈🎉 Joan
I have never seen this technique before. I am definitely going to try it. Thank you for the great tutorial. ❤
Great instructions. My decoupaged canvas tote bag is beautiful.
These are so beautiful 😍
Wonderful! Your step-wise instructions help me to learn easily. Lots of best wishes from India.

Hi Karen! Thank you! 🙂
Great project! thanks for clear easy directions to follow!
Love this video Joan!! Thank you!!
One of my nieces just graduated with her nursing degree. First licensed nurse in our family! I am making her a bag like this but will put her name and degree on the other side with iron on vinyl. Thanks for the tips on measuring first with the tape!
Hi Julie! A wonderful and thoughtful gift! God bless her for choosing a nursing career, I wish her the best! 🙂 Joan
Love the bags!! ❤️❤️
well done video top to bottom. very creative, thanks.
Wow! Love it ! Thanks for the explanation!
Very Beautiful!!!
I will definitely do this thank you
Incredibly informative. Thank you! 💗🙏💗

Hi Pam ! Thanks so much! I like detailed instructions myself so that’s how I do my videos. Makes it easier to have a successful project...as long as the video is watched completely 🙄
Hi,Joan, I really like your ideas.I love those bags ,they are so cute.
Thank you Deb! 🙂
Just finished some cosmetic bags using your technique and they came out perfect! Now to order some tote bags, thanks for sharing!
Hi Catalina! Thank you for watching! Have fun and let me know how it goes! Joan
I love, love, love this project. I have done a few smaller bags to practice on, but now am going to try a larger one. Need to get some canvas bags. Thank you for all the tips and tricks too.....I love the painters tape trick! Love all of your videos....Thanks for sharing!!
Hi Patty! Thank you so much and let me know how it goes! Joan
This is very clever! I have been using your plastic wrap method to get napkins onto paper. Great success!
Thank you! 🙂
Thank you. I want to try this. I will check at hobby lobby since it is local. I enjoy your video. Always very good step by step instructions.
I hope you find some Steve. Let me know how it goes! Joan
Which modge podge should be used for which craft working with napkins and wood etc I’m just learning the napkin crafts and I really love the styles so beautiful
Hi! With fabric you use the “fabric” variety. With most else like wood, glass, metal I use original formula in matte finish. I think the Plaid website has detailed info on all their formulas. - Joan
Bonjour C'est super es que vous utilisez de la colle pour tissus et de l enduit ou autre merci
I love this idea.. I actually do have the Cricut EasyPress Mini already. We have to bring our own bags to all stores here in NewJersey now. I might have to get a
Yes we need to bring our own bags now if I can only remember, lol thanks for watching! 🙂 Joan
@@JoanMarieDomino I'm not totally used to it yet. I may have to get myself some canvas totebags and make some bags to bring with me to stores no matter if it's food shopping or walmart or even Dollar Tree or whever I go.
I really like this idea. I have the bags and now I would like to know what size those lemon napkins are. Enjoy your videos bc you are very precise. Thank you for all you do.
They are the smaller size, I believe 9 x 9
❤️ your videos! Did you use high heat to iron? These are so pretty!
Hi Linda! Yes I used the hottest setting. Joan
So lovely results😂 thank you for sharing. I have done some decoupage on other things but never on bag. Its so nice , I have to try, you inspired me. And I like your way to show it, so professional and informative and you have so calming voice😊 If I may ask - can I use different mod podge, and what kind of bag to buy, is so of those liike tote bag, canvas etc and I am confused 😕
The bags are canvas and I recommend the fabric variety of Mod Podge for best results. Both those products are exactly what I used in the video. Maybe watch again? - Joan
❤

😊🌻❤️
Help! my napkin didn't adhere in the center. The edges did so I can't lift it up. Lots of bubbles in the center. can I fix this? I did the cosmetic bags and they worked great!
Hi Lindsay! I don’t know why you got all the bubbles in the middle. Not enough glue? Too much glue? Glue was still wet? Didn’t iron enough? Did you iron from the center out? If you did the edges first then the middle of the napkin will have air under it snd cause bubbles. You can try to iron it again and maybe it will lay flat.
Do the totes and any fabrics you are attaching need prewashed? And will this method work putting fabric onto a tote rather than a napkin? I want to cut up a tea towel to put on a tote.
I did not pre-wash the tote. Washing first is a good idea if you decoupage an item that will get soiled. You can put fabric to fabric, that is the original purpose of this formula. Works great with fabric just remember to read the label on the container before starting a project. Have fun! - Joan
Dear Joan Marie, I've just decoupaged an old wooden tray that I stripped the paint off and then repainted in white. I used the iron method with Mod Podge and, at first, it looked great, but then when I sealed the tray with more Mod Podge, my decoupage paper went wrinkly and it looked awful!! Now that it's dried it looks better, but there are still bubbles and wrinkles in the paper. Should I iron the paper again with the baking paper in between the iron and the decoupage paper, because I'm really not sure what to do and I don't want to throw out the tray because it took me a while to do the project and I'd hate to lose it. Thanks for any advice you can give me. Love from Amanda Jones in Melbourne, Australia ❤️ P.S. I love your channel and the project you did with the canvas bag and the napkins. They look gorgeous and I'm definitely going to try making some as gifts, and to use myself.
Hi Amanda! Yes you can try the iron-on on top again and it should smooth out at least some of the wrinkles. Don’t put Mod Podge on top but go right to a spray sealant. Very light coats letting time to dry between each coat. Joan 🙂
Do you have to use a light color bag? If so, do you have suggestions for darker color bags such as black, blue and reds? Thanks for your time.
Hi! If you want to see the napkin you’ll have to put down a coat of white paint where you want the napkin
Got it. Thank you so much for keeping it simple. Love your tutorials ❤
Wonderful tutorial. Thank you so much. How would you decoupage a piece of fabric to a straw hat? I'm doing this, but I do t know if I'm doing it right.
I have never decoupaged fabric onto a straw hat. Maybe you can do some fabric trim around the middle rim? If that makes sense. - Joan
@@JoanMarieDomino I already did 2 and I loved them. Thank you for your quick response.
Just 'discovered' you today!! I've subscribed & given you thumbs up!! You are such a great teacher!! I love your happy, cheerful energy! Your accent reminds me of my Aunt Mary. She came from Connecticut. Question: Can we use tissue on canvas bags, or only napkins? Now I'm inspired!! I guess fabric on fabric would work with this method??
Hi Carol! Thank you for all the nice words! You can try tissue paper on a scrap piece of fabric, it maybe too thick. Fabric to fabric is great! - Joan 🙂
Hi Joan l love your videos , l just came across it on your smaller canvas bag l see that you removed the baking of the napkin ! And on the tote bag did you remove it also Or not ? And can you put on your regular clothes ?
Can u tell which iron I r using so small. R the decoupage napkin is paper or fabric
Hi Joan the bags sure turn out pretty! I have a question. I saw behind you what looked like a little flower pouch made from a tp roll. Am I correct? Anyway, it was hanging up and I guessed it might have a magnet on it. My question is what kind of magnets do you use for those? Thank you and TYFS all you do with us! ❤
Hi Denise! You are correct there was a little posy pocket made with a cardboard tube, it was from paper towels because I wanted longer. Here is the video ruclips.net/video/7ryIgkQR3wM/видео.html on how I make them. I do use magnets for other projects. They are very small but very strong and work great! I get them from Amazon. Joan 🙂
Thanks for this tips.I would like ask tree things. If we can use ricepaper in canvas bag with this glue and how is clean it??on hand or machine on 30 ??
I’ve never tried rice paper but I don’t think it would work. For a napkin, wash in cold water, gentle cycle, hang dry. I’d try spot cleaning before washing machine.
Hi I put a napkin on a canvas bag. I also used stencils and put on Merry Christmas with paint. Would you suggest putting the varnish you use on the napkin on the stencil.
Hi Donna! It really depends on the paint you used on the stencil. The varnish can make the paint run. Test the varnish on the paint first before you put it on the bag. Sounds like a very cute Christmas bag! 😄 Joan
Hi Joan,,, just did my 1st bag... just ordered the matte finish,, HL here had the satin varnish,,, tried on a small piece but it was too shiny... My bags are not white but beige color and I ordered some napkins from Amazon... did the torn method, but it still shows the outline of it... may have to do some kind of blending method... will use these bags up before getting more... My question is how would I blend in the edges of napkins and what step should I do in... also once the duraclear matte varnish is on .. do I let it cure.. What to sell these bags.... I wash them.. thanks for the great videos... hope this make sense.
Use white napkins on white bags if you want to tear the edge. Or do one entire panel of the napkin as I did in the video. Allow as much time as possible for DuraClear to cure. I don’t machine wash the bags but you can follow the instructions on the Fabric MP bottle. I don’t sell them so I can’t help you there. Thanks for watching!
Hello Joan-Marie,
I would like to know if I use the fabric mod podge on my burlap to seal it. I have seen
a video on how to mod podge the burlap
So that it won't fray? I'm a free hand artist
I use acrylic paint, mix media as marbled leather and paper, as well as recycled jewelry. For this project.
Thank you
E. Ash
Hi! You can try using fabric MP, it’s a glue so it should keep the burlap from fraying. There is also a product sewers use to stop frays when cutting fabric. Hope that helps! - Joan
@@JoanMarieDomino Thank you.
Amazing, thank you for sharing, incase i don't have a cricut iron, will the usual iron give the same result?
Hi! Yes you can use your household iron, no steam - Joan 🙂
@@JoanMarieDomino thank you so much
I love these projects!! What a great gift they will make. I was wondering about washing the bags but you covered that, THANKS! Thanks for sharing. Are you going to do Christmas in July?
Hi Dean! Thank you so much and I think a great gift! I washed and had no problem, however I would go over the instructions on the bottle of fabric Mod Podge too. Christmas in July? Do you mean a Christmas project? Joan
@@JoanMarieDomino Yes, Christmas projects. I know it is really early and you always give such great ideas already but it is a thing on youtube.
Well, I do have a small project I included in the next napkin haul which will be out in a few days. That diy is for Christmas. There will be a bigger napkin haul coming with “Christmas in July” theme and I will plan a little Christmas diy for that too. 🎅🏼 Joan
What setting are you using on the iron?
The highest setting
Hi 👋🏻 I love this! Will this work on clothing? 🥰
Yes!
Thank you so much for the detail instructions! 😊
Do you have videos on how to decoupage on burlap/jute bags? Is it the same iron method?
I have not done jute bags but I have done burlap fabric. I didn’t do both the same way ruclips.net/video/r2JgKeHWzUY/видео.html&feature=sharec
@@JoanMarieDomino Thank you! Just watched it. Very good instructions 👍🏻🤗
Joan,
How do you clean your tote bag? I'm sure you can't wash it, I would not want to!
Love your DIY's!
Hi Louann! I think you can wash them in cold water, gentle cycle and no dryer. But you must seal them as I did in the video and also read the label on the bottle of Fabric MP for washing instructions. Joan
Can you use paper on the canvas bags from artwork from an inkjet printer ?
I never used paper, I think it is to thick and ink Jet prints will run.
I tried this and it turned out beautifully, but, I used a manilla file folder inside and when I tried to remove it, it had adhered to the fabric! What is best to use inside the bag to protect during process?
I used a file folder and that did not happen, maybe my canvas bag was thicker. Put a piece of baking parchment on top of the file folder.
Can I do this with rice paper as well? And I believe you said in the video these are washable? Thank you!
Hi! Never rice paper so I don’t know. For washing machine...cold water, gentle cycle and air dry. I don’t put mine in the machine, I wipe off. Joan
Hello.. Loved your video.. I'm a beginner.. Would you please tell me difference between a decoupage paper and decoupage napkin??
And which one is best for cotton and jute tote bags?
Can we use normal napkins for decoupage on tote bags?? Kindly reply
Hi! I am not familiar with decoupage paper so I don’t know. I use paper napkins on the cotton bags in my video. I’m not sure what you mean by ‘normal’ napkins. Paper napkins you can use. You can also use cloth napkins. I hope that helps 🙂
Can you use gift wrapping g paper?
I never tried gift wrap but I would say NO - Joan
Can these bags be put in washer after decoupaging? Im thinking no?
I spot clean mine you can try gentle cycle, cold water and no dryer. Also please read the label on the container of Fabric Mod Podge. 🙂 Joan
I found you yesterday and ive been binge watching away. You're incredible. I noticed you said plastic bags weren't available in your area. Im guessing you're in Jersey too lol.
Yes Jersey, no bags! 🙁 thank you for watching! 🙂- Joan
@@JoanMarieDomino Jersey shore here. Lol. I have an over abundance of reusable bags because I always forget them 🤣
I know!! I think I have about 50 just from the Christmas tree shop! 😂🤣
Can I do this using a thick paper instead of a napkin like kind of like a cardstock type of paper I found it in the scrapbooking section hope you see my comment thanks for uploading the video
Also if I cannot get or access an iron is it not going to come out?
No you cannot use thick paper and you need an iron. You need to follow the steps in my video including supplies for best results. You can always experiment on your own and let me know how things work out. - Joan
Hi Joan. I’m so happy to have found your channel. You have some great tutorials and I can’t wait to binge a few! I’d love to decoupage some tote bags I bought from Land’s End but not sure they would work. They don’t lay down flat like your bag does. If you Google “Small Natural Open Top Long Handle Canvas Tote Bag” from Land’s End, you’ll see the one I’d be working with. Do you think this technique would work on this bag and what, if any, modifications would I need to do in the process since it’s not flat. I don’t want to mess them up since they are a little pricey (I’ve had them for years so I didn’t pay the current price, thankfully!) but I have about 10 to do. Thanks for your great tips.
Hi! I would not do that bag that does not lay flat. You can try using an ironing board and stick the ironing board inside the bag opening. I still would not do it, too much bulk.
@@JoanMarieDomino Thanks for your advice.
Hi where did you get your totes from? I ordered the Mod podge and the dura clear sealant.
Hi Steve! Ok, I put a link for the canvas bags but they’re not exactly the same. The problem with Amazon is they mostly sell them in LARGE quantities. Check Joannes, I think they have them plus you can purchase a smaller quantity. If you need to get a larger size (which I recommend) you can use the exact same techniques! 🙂 Joan
Very good tutorial, like all your others I have watched!! Can you use material instead of napkins? If so, do you use the same technique? Thank you.
Hi Nancy! Actually a little different. You can put the Fabric onto the bag while it still wet. Smooth it with your hand. Wait for it to dry. Iron and then a top coat of Fabric MP.i think there are also instructions on the bottle! Fabric won’t rip like a napkin so it’s easier. It just has a different look. - Joan
Thanks so much!
Do you use clear sealant gloss or matte after you are done pealing off painters tape and iron it down
Hi the sealant is my final step and I don’t iron it, only the Mod Podge is ironed. I prefer matte
@@JoanMarieDomino ok thank you
Did you do a video for fabric on fabric?
Not yet. It’s easier then a napkin. I think the label on the fabric MP has instructions if you want to try. I’d like to do a video 🙂 Joan
@@JoanMarieDomino oooh i look forward to seeing it! I have these 3 inch bees i would like to modpodge onto some fabric for some curtains.
How do you keep from having a white ring around the edge?
The tape
What if you cut down a canvas picture to put on a bag? Can you use a regular iron?
You can decoupage canvas to canvas using the fabric Mod Podge. Yes you can use a regular household iron on high, no steam. Joan 🙂
@@JoanMarieDomino Many thanks ...Pam
How is it with water?😊 Can it be washed? Or if it rains? Will the decoration fall off?
If you follow step-by-step you can wipe it clean and the napkin will stay on. If you MUST put in the washer then cold water, gentle cycle and no dryer. I’ve never washed mine.
Could you tell me the product names please? I didn’t see them in comments
Everything is in the description box not in comments, it’s right next to the hashtags. It’s a lot of things. If you still can’t find the products please drop in another comment.
Is there any way to decoupage on the polyester bags with company logos on them? There are so many of them floating around. I see people trying to give them away on Buy Nothing groups, but there are no takers. I’m sure they end up in the landfill.
Maybe a piece of fabric on top of the logo or covering the entire front. You could sew it on. I’m not sure Mod Podge would hold fabric into something made in polyester- Joan
Yoy could use the cow bag for carrying home your dairy groceries
Great idea! 🐄
Hello!
Vippies don't send to South Africa :(
I also can't find Fabric Mod Podge in South Africa #sigh
Could I use a different type of fabric glue?
Hi! Vippies does not sell any of the Mod Podge products. I found that the Mod Podge fabric formula worked the best. I wish I could be more helpful Joan
@@JoanMarieDomino - Sorry, I didn't word that properly. Vippie's doesn't ship to South Africa (I was hoping to order in some napkins - we call them serviettes). Then, on a separate note, I can't find Fabric Mod Podge in South Africa. There are a few types of fabric glue out there. May give one of them a go, just to see.
Vippies is only set-up for the US right now. I don’t know, maybe a fabric glue would work. I wish I can be more helpful. Good luck Joan
Can this be washed? I’d love to do this on jackets!
Please read the label on the container of Fabric Mod Podge. I’m not really sure if it would hold up in a washer. You can always test. Cold water, gentle cycle, no dryer. - Joan
How long to dry between each step?
Hi! I would give each coat at least a couple hours to set-up. Mod Podge will stay tacky if you don’t allow enough time, the longer the better. Don’t rush! 🙂 Joan
Joan,
I made a tote, with your video directions and I'd like to post it on your group page, but I dont know how. I also can't find the group page now.
