Wow. well. this video just spoke to me. The adventure. The rig. The shower for the kids and wife. Just great. Am a landscape photographer and putting together my/our adventure rig ideas. Seeing solutions like this, really gives a guy ideas. Great video.
amazed at how much thought and detail goes into these things. All the combined years of thinking and living this way coming together to produce a machine and its camper, really blows me away. Well done folks, and it goes to show when you're truly passionate about something, walk the walk and talk the talk you find a way to make it a side hustle as well. KUDOS!!!
Thanks Mike and Kevin. You certainly got me more interested in the overland lifestyle. I've always been into boating adventures as I live on Vancouver Island. But we also have some beautiful places to explore on land in the mountains. Channels such as Live Work Wander, Bound for Nowhere, Lifestyle Overland, and Overland Bound got me thinking about selling my F150 4x4 and going with something a little more nimbler. And everyone should have an AED and know how to use it.
Great walk around with Kevin, what a nice guy! (psst, camera op, please point the camera at items being talked about, it will really help improve these videos.)
I love the Turtleback Trailers but they are literally the price of a new 4Runner, for that money I'd rather have a Four Wheel Camper that I can stand up in or a Tear Drop trailer with an enclosed place to sleep. Different strokes for different folks. Great video, nice to see it all in detail.
Tex Lee Totally understand your initial thoughts on the price. Just make sure you research the overall construction and determine if it will handle the terrain you intend to travel. There's a big difference between a typical RV, plywood teardrop, and these Turtleback Trailers. Glad to chat about it anytime.
I whole heartedly agree in regards to the majority of tear-drops and their plywood construction, there are however other tear-drop like trailers made of aluminum which offer much better rigidity and durability. I love the Turtleback and Patriot trailers, I just hate they force you into a RTT as your only option for sleeping accommodations considering the price point. FWC's are also of concern in terms of reliability and ruggedness, unfortunately there is no perfect answer here.
awesome vid, really inspirational as i daydream about overlanding with my family of five. curious as to why you recommend putting the fridge in the drive vehicle? and do you have a toilet solution?
This particular unit has the base suspension and tires. We can go up to a 37" tire and 3 inch lift with these! Plenty of room with the right setup even for my 6' 3" noggin'.
Devildogvet 666 Dan Perkins I hope the money we have invested in our adventures doesn't make anyone feel like this type of setup is needed for overlanding. It's simply what we have chosen use. We sold our house and now live in a 40' camper trailer to allow us the funds to do the things we love instead of working to pay a mortgage. Not that we would encourage everyone to take this path, but it's truly a new perspective when reduce your overhead and monthly payments to a level that opens up new opportunities. Hence our name; "Lifestyle" Overland we changed our lifestyle in order to live our passion.
Scott Gerry I thought the same thing when I first came across Turtleback Trailers at Expo West in 2015. I was blown away by the quality and features but the sticker shock had me scratching my head. I went home and did my research on other manufacturers and found that the Turtleback Expedition was the most competitively priced considering the features and construction. I then set out to build my own but after pricing out the material, equipment, coatings, suspension, electrical system, and appliances I found that there was no way I could build the same level of trailer for the price of the Turtleback when you considered the amount of man-hours required to engineer, fabricate, and assemble something of this caliber. It was about this time that they introduced financing options at 3.25%... that sealed the deal because instead of spending 3-6 months building, I could be enjoying something already engineered and tested to do exactly what I wanted. After 2 years of ownership, the chance came up to work for them and I jumped all over it because it's a product I believe in and I wanted to help make it even better. Now that I see the balance sheet and man-hours on a daily basis I can say without a doubt that this is the best value off-road trailer out there. We spend over $2,300 in coatings alone (hot-dip galvanizing, bed-lining, zinc powder coating, color powder coating, etc.). I understand that a 20-30k trailer isn't in the cards for everyone but the price is right for what is offered. This is the highest quality of trailers and it is built to last generations. We also offer another style trailer that starts at half the price of the Expedition but is built on the same chassis. We are working on branching out and offering trailers for multiple offroad styles and budgets.
@@LifestyleOverland I'm sorry but still... At that price point I can buy a nice hard sided camper to use when I don't need my custom off road camper that I built for under $3,000 (and that includes the Tepui ruggedized tent). I get where you're coming from, but it's not worth a new car or hard sided camper's price.
Love the trailer, I have plans to purchase one in the next 6 months. Turtleback did well choosing you as an ambassador and OM. I do wish I liked Toyota's more, I just cant get myself to like them. They are so dated, they feel like a 90's model at new car pricing. I am thinking about a Colorado ZR2 with the diesel, but there is little aftermarket support for them. Anyway, great video and you earned a new sub.
Hey, looking forward to seeing you as part of the Herd! We actually weren't chosen, we bought one 3 years ago and loved it so much that we went to work for them! Everyone has their own vehicle preferences, we've loved our 4Runner so much that we can't imagine traveling in any other rig. Thought the ZR2 is pretty sexy! Good luck on your adventures!
Awesome sauce. Just bought a pop-up and hope to start our family adventures soon. What would you say is one of your favorite locations to camp in the Phoenix area?
Excellent video...is there a build/spec sheet for the 4Runner? Curious about the rear suspension set up for both vehicle load out/towing of the TB trailer? Thanks!
This is a great setup. Just found your channel- lots of ideas for us to try and use on our own van setup before our epic adventure through Europe! Thanks for sharing!!
Kevin and Sarah both used to work for me in NM. You will not find better people and a more beautiful adventurous family. Great video. Safe travels my friend.
It would be nice to know what brakes you have, electric or surge hydraulic. I can see for behind a small/medium SUV that an ability to control the brakes independently from vehicle (using manual slide on electric brake controller on lower dash) might be nice. In my world of "overland" it's cold rainy, snowy ....generally NOT arid....I want to be IN a small trailer. RTT aren't for me. I am designing and building a "in draft" trailer for behind my wife's Liberty CRD. At 30-32 mpg it's a no brainer for us. Using galvanized box tube frame and insulated panels down low and a high end fiberglass "work truck" cap is my method. My moto, and her kayak will be on outside. Ability to stow valuables inside during travel and sleep there at night makes sense for us.
We have several models now. These Expedition units start at 21,995 while our Adventure model starts at 9,995. We are looking into another model that will be south of 7k for mid-2018. Check out www.TurtlebackTrailers.com
Its a nice set up but by no means the ultimate setup, especially for a family. They only have one kid with a way overpriced trailer. I have seen their overland videos. They are good videos. However, for the terrain they travel, I would think the ultimate setup would be a decked out military vehicle like an M1079 4x4, Mercedes Sprinter, 4x4 or maybe even an old ford conversion van with a lift and SAS if you are on a budget, for an average family that is with more than 1 kid and 1 or 2 dogs. They are crammed into that 4runner. . Honestly, I would be impressed if they were overlanding in their HJ43.
This is the Yuppie Setup...not to be a downer or anything. Navigaytion setup? Tablet? Phones? CB? Jesus.....You guys don't leave anything to exploration or chance. I would never want to roll like this. That's the whole point of getting out away from people and onto the land, to be more simple and techno free...
that family's youtube channel is why i want to crawl out of debt and live abroad with my family for a year or two. life goals.
Nice!! The defibrillator is a must after you see the bill for this build!!!
:D
😂

Love the TurtleBack. Dave Munsterman is a stand up guy and his crew makes a quality product.
Diego Zuniga Thanks, Diego!

Very well thought out. Enjoy all these videos. TU
Incredible trailer really cool. Kevin did a fantastic job explaining the trailer and options.
b palm Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome setup! Good ideas for other rigs. Love the West. We'd need the mosquito armored version here in Mid-West.
The answer is yes.
great build. only thing id change is the Icon suspension for some better quality Kings
B. Stone We love our Icon setup, no plans of changing it up!
Definitely agree @Kingshocks - family owned and made in the USA. Nothing but quality
Very nicely done! Love Kevin's channel too :)
Stuart Pocock Thanks so much!
He thought of everything, very nice setup!!!!!
Money DOES equal happiness. lol
Great walk around with Kevin, what a nice guy! (psst, camera op, please point the camera at items being talked about, it will really help improve these videos.)
Martin Broenkow Aw, shucks... Thanks!
Martin Broenkow yes I was literally wanting to peer into see the pots and pan drawer
Super great review with him keep up the great content
the gap by the rear tail lights from the bumper seem off.. fitment looks funky. nice stuff tho
Nice! I want one of those trailers one day.
Danan Coleman Thanks for watching! Give us a call when you're ready!
Rephrase that to “I WILL have one of those trailers one day”
I WILL have one of those trailers.
This is a super cool rig
Is the trailer actually bulletproof ? That would be an interesting feature :)

very interested in the battery relocation. how to vid?
awesome vid, really inspirational as i daydream about overlanding with my family of five. curious as to why you recommend putting the fridge in the drive vehicle? and do you have a toilet solution?
Great set-up! And Anza Borrego is always for to explore!
Cool rig. Great video.
I have a 1998 Toyota Tacoma. Where should I start kitting out my truck to overland full time?
RAD!! Thanks for sharing #lifetravelinggoal
Nice two channels I watch mashed up
Jonathan Suitter Thanks for watching!
Great trailer. My only concern how tall are you guys? It look like you are hunched over to walk under tent
Both north of 6 feet
This particular unit has the base suspension and tires. We can go up to a 37" tire and 3 inch lift with these! Plenty of room with the right setup even for my 6' 3" noggin'.
Very nice, way to expensive I guess I'll stick to the old fashion tent on the deck and bear boxes lol.

Awesome rig I’m jealous 😏😀
Great video, very nice trailer. Too bad they are so insanely expensive. I can see why they are pricey but I can’t see paying that for one

you guys ever get group runs together? I'd love to join up.
Great video, nice trailer, need better microphones, very uneven volume.

4.88 rear end too? Unless i missed it.
P Pha I think he said 4.56
Awesome sauce. Just bought a pop-up and hope to start our family adventures soon. What would you say is one of your favorite locations to camp in the Phoenix area?
Nefarious Activity We're just getting started in Arizona but loving the area along the Apache Trail and east of Roosevelt Lake in Tonto NF!
After watching this I looked up lift kits for pop ups and they exist!!!!
Excellent video...is there a build/spec sheet for the 4Runner? Curious about the rear suspension set up for both vehicle load out/towing of the TB trailer? Thanks!
Hi John! I'm not sure, but here is a link to their website. www.lifestyleoverland.com/
www.overlandbound.com/forums/index.php?threads/59/ here ya go!
Thanks!
Is the fridge connected to anything
It's connected to our Auxiliary battery via #8 awg dedicated cables.
Ohhhh, Europe would be a blast!
How do you get a defibrillator for next to nothing?! :D
Hey, Mike! Really cool stuff/vid.
I wonder if we have a similar company in Europe. Do you know anything about that?
Thanks!
Sweeet Setup!👌
A.C. S. Thanks!
This is awesome! im so jealous! haha
DznByLimbo I know! Same here!
I think that cool guy has a ccw-gun under his shirt ;) which one? :)
For the longest time I had no idea that he was an OB member
jdubshizzle Yep! OB0102 and the Mrs is OB0103!
Wicked!
alfredo ramirez so stoked!
Awesome truck but that rear bumper is horrendous. Those gaps!
NNN SSS The gaps are required because of vehicle flex. If it was snug it would crush the body (their prototypes did this and they adjusted).
Ugly gaps! Could have used a rubber trim piece of some sort to close that gap and allow flexibility... looks really bad

Jealous of that defib!!!
Trust Elohim Cripps Haha! Had to burn our FSA account before leaving my last job... Defibulators we're on the list!

Pepper Shaker something to dream about.

kevin puts out fantastic videos! Check him out!
Overland Generation Thanks, guys!
Whew..... $50K and still sleeping in a tent. Nope
Nice $80K setup....?????
Nah bro more than that truck is 50 to 60k and the trailer is about 30k and all the interior electronics it's most likely in the 100k to 120k range.
This is the Yuppie Setup...not to be a downer or anything. Navigaytion setup? Tablet? Phones? CB? Jesus.....You guys don't leave anything to exploration or chance. Nice trailer I’ll pass on the Toyota because it’s no Jeep
Matthew Fox Jeep doesn't have the reliability like Toyota. Toyota forever baby.
I’ll pass on the 4-runner and especially a Heep, and go straight to a 80 Series Land Cruiser.
If you want to drive into the woods drive a Jeep, but if you want to drive out drive a Toyota.
Not where we ride. Independent front end doesn't flex enough for us.
So, can you own a Toyota as long as you own a Jeep?
