    I had just seen that drawer system for the 4xe online the other day. It's perfect for the battery offset to be able to have the back area lay flat and put a sleeping platform back there. Awesome video showcasing your Jeep!

      @TrailNewbie  3 дня назад +1

      Ya, I also have a 4Xe, not featured on the channel, and you are correct - this drawer system would level out a sleeping area pretty good. Not perfectly flat, but definitely good enough for sleeping. A solid option for sure. Hope your 4Xe adventures are awesome buddy! Cheers! Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

    Another "wheel-y" cool video. I got the Charger1 a few weeks ago and it's another game changer. I've used it on a couple of trips and have been very happy with it. I'm not even sure I'll need my solar panels unless I'm base camping for a few days.

    I received my Wheels & Feels for my 2024 Jeep Rubicon. It's nice but needs more refinement. The hinge pockets were not deep enough so I had to make them deeper, longer hinges would have been better. The side winglets would not sit flush until I countersunk a screw. The side covers just lay on top so would slide off, I added 1/2" tabs on the bottom to lock them in. The covering is just on top so you see the wood on the side. I painted the edges black so it matches. BTW, they didn't do cutaways to make it lighter, they did the cuts for the dividers and for the top to lay down flush.

    • @TrailNewbie
      @TrailNewbie  3 дня назад

      Some great info here. Yes, on the hinges for the top - I agree that is one area where there could be an upgrade there to something a little more beefy. Everything else was flush on mine, so I was good there. And - Great idea about painting the edges black! That would make it look really nice!! I just might have to do that. On weight savings - shoot! I thought I saw other areas that were routered out to save weight, but I could be wrong there. Good catch on that comment! Cheers, and I hope your drawer is treating you right! One tip for those side pieces not moving, I put a small strip of velcro at the front of each one and that’s all it took, stays on at all times on any terrain. Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

    One thing to mention about a soft top is that if the soft top is your only top you will have to wire in the Ursa Minor’s rear wiper. I saw that on another channel, cannot remember the channel off the top of my head.

    Love the setup. I really would like to find a used Ursa Minor. That $12K price tag is a little steep. I love how my dog could sleep on the first floor and I get the top floor. Remote start which you don't have and open the hatch to warm things up.

    • @TrailNewbie
      @TrailNewbie  3 дня назад +1

      Ya, the $12K price is definitely steep! I got mine gently used for around $9K if I remember right. Here was my thinking: 1) you can enter from inside, so you can still access fridge, and other things 2) the cost of a good roof rack plus install is around 2.5K (Rhino Rack backbone as an example), 3) a quality RTT is around 3K-4K ... 4) the weight of the roof rack and RTT is more than the weight of the Ursa Minor and lastly, I can still fit this in my garage if needed! That was a major decision point for me!! Thank you for watching and for your comment! I really appreciate it! 😀

    • @TrailNewbie
      @TrailNewbie  3 дня назад +1

      Thanks! And, great question! The bed jet is still in use! However, I did just get a custom diesel heater over the last year so that will be likely my primary source of heat. The cool thing about the bed jet is that it also helps on hot nights. It can blow air under your sheets or into your sleeping bag which helps a ton when the ambient air around you is in the low 70’s as an example. Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

      @TrailNewbie  4 дня назад +1

      Hahahahha, ya, that was sooooo 2 years ago 🤣🤣 It’s been fun building this rig up. The real answer why I was minimalist with no RTT for so long was because I was waiting for a pre-owned Ursa Minor to come up for sale in my area. It took a while, but - now indeed the minimalist approach is gone. 😢 Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

    Thanks for going into so much detail, especially when you crawl to the upstairs bedroom. I had a question about that uostairs: how did you stay warm up there? And also, when the wind comes up is the fact that it’s canvas and not a hard side any issue? And finally, in inclement weather, when you need to be inside the vehicle do you find that the space to move around - that is simply the backseat and the upstairs bedroom - feels too small?

    • @TrailNewbie
      @TrailNewbie  3 дня назад +2

      Great questions!! Happy to answer them all for you! 😃 1) I use a custom built diesel heater that I didn’t showcase in this video. 2) with regard to wind - yes, if it’s extremely windy it can be an annoyance … I find that some good noise cancelling headphones with white noise helps out a ton. 3) yes, in inclement weather, you nailed it … it’s pretty much the back seat and up in the bed/tent. For me, I’m fine with small spaces, so no issues there. With Starlink, the backseat can become a movie theatre. 😃 Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

      Hi Mary Beth! Yes, indeed, I’m relatively tall at 6’ 4” tall. And, the Ursa Minor is PERFECT. There is room above my head and below my feet. So plenty of room to stretch! And, like you, I really like NOT having to use a ladder. That decreases the possibility of falls/accidents and also allows for being able to fully stand in the back seat of the Jeep and change clothes as needed. I love it. 😀 Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

    Just curious…are you concerned at all about the charger addition effecting your warranty on your electrical system? That’s one thing holding me back from installing one. Unless of course you’re already out of warranty. Thanks …great rig!

    • @TrailNewbie
      @TrailNewbie  3 дня назад

      Really great question here!! Short answer is - - I hadn't thought about that. My Wrangler is out of warranty by about 15K miles, but I think if it was still in warranty I'd still install this. I don't have any major rationale for this decision ... just that I think this Charger1 has some protections built into it including a fuse if you buy the cable as an option. If you keep the charging voltage in line with the battery requirements, then I don't think there should be an issue. 12v Jeep battery only can charge using 27v which produces around 250w input. If you ran it higher (which you can go to 56v) then I could see how you could potentially damage the electrical system and have a warranty issue. So something to definitely think about here! Thank you for watching and for your comment! I really appreciate it! 😀

    I was wondering if you need to have your rear seats maybe you could delete them and get a lot more storage room plus I was thinking about solar panels on your roof

    • @TrailNewbie
      @TrailNewbie  3 дня назад +1

      Ya, both are 100% things I will do at some point. Only issue for me is - my wife and I have 3 kids so I still have a need for passengers from time to time. I've thought about the rear seat delete which would be incredible. At the same time - having a seat back there with the Ursa Minor gives a nice little area to come down and be able to sit if needed. It's my 3 foot by 3 foot living room! HA! Solar panels on the roof would be awesome. I just haven't gotten that far yet. And, with the new Charger1 that I installed - - I may never need them! • @TrailNewbie
      @TrailNewbie  3 дня назад

      That’s a great question, and … there’s not really a good answer. My thought though is: if I had all my stuff perhaps out for cooking and I needed to get in the drawer (and it was blocked), then I can open the lid of the drawer and get stuff out from the top. • @TrailNewbie
      @TrailNewbie  3 дня назад

      Great question! Short answer is - with a standard JLU the seats fold down sort of flat, the drawer system would be about 3 inches higher so you would want to put something to help level it out a bit. This would actually be good for a Jeep 4Xe where the seats are higher up due to the battery under them. It would likely level out really nice. Overall, yes, this would be a great option with perhaps just some minor modifications. Thank you for watching and for your comment! I really appreciate it! 😀

      AHAHAHAHAHHA, I know right??? Actually, you might be somewhat surprised. The Rubicon Wrangler base model back in 2020 was $42K!! I’ve definitely put in about 20K in upgrades to the lift, shocks, tires, etc. and then the Ursa Minor was $9K used. Indeed, probably around 70K spent on this rig - but I’ve had many others feel like it was a 6 figure rig over 100K. It’s amazing how much things cost these days.
