I met you in Quartzsite Jan 2022. I wondered how long you could keep going at the rate you were going. You started out for freedom and built such a following the you were back to non stop obligations! Now you sound so relaxed and happy again. We discussed how we both lost our sons. That taught me to slow down, enjoy my family and be free to do what makes me happy. I was 77 when I started, I'm 80 now and in an apt. That van life trip was amazing and one of the best things I've ever done. Thank you for all your videos that helped so many of us make that life changing trip. It's your turn freedom again. All the best to you.
I was thinking the same thing. Bob is a true & real innovator. He's made some money on his "brand" but he seems to remember his roots about survival & minimalistic living. I respect that about Bob.
This is so hard for some of us to do. Especially for those that have been living a life of "pretending" , hoping to keep the ones we love happy, content, and fulfilled. Maybe this is just the cost of compromise.
I could live in an RV if I were single but no way will I not have a bathroom and live in a car and not at least be able to stand up. Running water and bathroom facilities are the most important thing to me. It's about cleanliness and if the weather is really bad what do you do? Freeze to death or get drenched in rain or possibly hit by debris during a storm? As a 61 yr old female in good healthy condition, I would not like to go without a shower or restroom. And I also eat every meal at home, I am not into eating out so cooking is important to me too and I don't want to cook outside in a storm or freezing weather. Anyone in their 60's needs to think about a full time place to live in case they get too sick to travel. This living in a car is stupid in my opinion.
@@charleshood at first, I kept smiling, waiting for the punchline. But being a nomad really is an emotional journey and The concept of freedom is fluid.
This is why I bought a RAV4 hybrid. I fabricated a thin solar panel on the top of a rooftop cargo carrier, and ran the power cord through rain guards on the rear window into two battery banks. A goal zero 33amp battery linked to another 33 amp battery. Runs all my power, even though the car is one big battery bank as well. I can sleep in air conditioned comfort in the outback of Australia, in mosquito infested hot country, while sleeping. I use a manufactured paper machete cover for my lights, as the newer models cannot turn lights off, and makes my car stealth in suburbs when sleeping while having air-conditioning running at night while sleeping. Uses about 2 dollars in petrol while having car in standby mode on air-conditioning. I prep my food using a freeze dryer, and can set out for long journeys up and down the eastern seaboard of Australia. Plus I have a disability permit and get free parking anywhere overnight, as National laws on parking for disability parking overrides local council parking rules.
I think I’m in the same boat as you, Betty Sue Long. I’m also 70 & wish I could find the right resources to find a travel companion, mainly because I’m afraid to drive the old Class C by myself that I’ve had for 2 years. Cool to see this this. I had an 03 Forester, loved it. Traveled all over, slept in it even at 6'1". I called it Subaru backpacking. Drove it all over in crazy steep places. Been a photographer, backpacker, sea kayaker and river runner for decades. I totally relate to the freedom you're talking about compared to the maintenance of big rigs. I'm 68 now and have a 4runner and teardrop. Not the great gas mileage but still fairly simple. My wife loves it too. She was an Outward Bound instructor and river guide. Both retired now except for the fun stuff. I base in eastern AZ. Maybe we'll get out to Quartzite this year. Cheers amigo....
Bob so great that you found a Forester that works for you! As a Subaru Finance Manager for nearly 20 years I was glad to see you opted for Subaru Gold Plus coverage. It will definitely be there for you when you need it! I thought you put a lot of miles on your vehicles, so remember it is X years or X miles whichever comes first! Pro Tip, as you reach either threshold get an oil change and ask them to go over it - Subaru pays the dealer to fix anything they find! Cheers, Michael Albuquerque NM USA, PS I fought many battles with my dealers about selling inadequate third party coverage. I made a bit less perhaps, but I slept well! I was the finance guy people asked for again and again! Win-Win!
Congratulations Bob! I’ve been following you for many years. I’m glad you’re enjoying life, listening to your heart. You truly walk the talk and we all love you for that! ❤
I can never thank you enough for your example and willingness to share the ups and downs of your life journey. I've mentioned it before, but one of the best things that's ever happened to me was losing my apartment during the initial Covid outbreak. My daydreams became a reality, simply by being unencumbered from paying rent. My Hyundai Santa Fe Sport has been a comfortable, sturdy and super cheap drive that's gotten me from Texas to Leadville, to Flagstaff and Quartzite X2(!) now. Your advice has always been spot-on and I'll always be appreciative of the first hand accounts your channel offers hopeful nomads, such as I was. My best to you and your son and I'm looking forward to seeing your new vehicle build!
Hi Bob , my next door neighbor bought a Subaru Forester in 2023 . He just got back from Alaska 2 weeks ago and just loves the car . He was that NAVY radioman that got lost on Kodiak in 1964 and survived it by sleeping in trees at night and eating nuts , berries and peanut butter . He also wrote a book about it . I'm your age and remember when this happened in 64 . Bruce is 81 . Also , he was lost for 10 days and nights . Enjoy your Forester . Their great cars . 😊
@lzemo I was stationed on Kodiak 1979-80 (US Coast Guard Support Center & Air Station) and even though it's a BIG island, you gotta go pretty far inland to get away from the roads.
I’m so happy to hear you are car camping/living and loving it. I’ve been living out of a Prius for 4 years and I LOVE IT! 45/50 MPG and I drive anywhere anytime just because….true freedom. Enjoy!
I have to move back to NYC and of course I can't afford an apartment, I will be living out of my Prius C. Been reviewing some builds and it looks doable.
I exist out of an Outback. It's a super capable rig and I think you fill the space you have. Lees space just means less crap. All my necessary stuff fits in my backpack. Groove much, fret little. Love your stuff, Bob.
Bob this is great stuff. I've followed this channel despite being very much in office job/suburban homeowner/family mode, because I think it's a great way to stretch the mind. Thanks to you and all your friends, we get to see all the different ways there are to Do and Be, and yeah as neat as converrting an ambulance or a bus or box truck is, you suddenly get married to diesel maintenance, air brakes maybe, and the price of truck tires. So the fact Bob Himself can say, You know what let's dial this all back, speaks volumes. To me, Cheap RV Living and the whole nomad life is all about finding that freedom, no matter what your rig is, how you sleep in it, or where you may wander. And always follow your heart!!!
My mechanic told me to keep up with changing the trans and the fluid in the AWD system, and they will last forever. I have an 08 Outback, and he recommended head gaskets when I did the timing belt. Yours is newer, so I do not think yours has potential head gasket issues.
Just FYI, I just got a 2013 Forester with 140K miles and paid additional 7K to replace lower control arm bushings wheel bearings exhaust system, everything except the 2 catalytic converter sensors Dealer provided a free rental, brand new Subaru Ascent unlimited miles. Seemed like they would stand behind their work more than an smaller shop. Dropped my car off with a half tank of gas, got it back on EMPTY !!! Going to get the car inspected again by an independent shop. Unfortunately, forgot to take a picture of the mileage. Wish I could find a Scotty Kilmer mechanic in my area !
I live in Maine and there are a TON of Subaru owners here. I see them everywhere. Maine has some harsh winters, numerous unpaved gravel roads, farms, mountains, mostly two-lane winding roads, and lots of camping in the woods. Plus, most Mainers drive a lot because there's usually a fair bit of distance between towns and cities, so it says a lot that Subaru is popular here. I think you made a great choice!
I understand completely. I downsized from a Ford E150 to a minivan. More stealth, double the gas mileage, got rid of all the clutter I never needed from the other van. I'm a much happier camper now.
Build an 'SOS'( Solar off-grid Shed) like I did in Arizona. Park your ambulance in the SOS and use it as you 'home base'. No bills, just power it from the Solar on your roof in the shed and drive your new Subaru where ever you want to go.
I have a 2016 Rav4 that I camp out of. Took out the two passenger seats, put in a fridge, Bluetti, and storage drawers. I sleep on the other passenger seat folded down. I recently added a Yakima roof box. Can confirm that a Rav4 is freedom.✌️ Can't wait to see the Subaru build!
You can now get the RAV4 drivetrain in the Mazda cx-50 hybrid... Just like Subaru, Mazda has teamed up with Toyota to share parts, factories and even ENTIRE drivetrains
Bob, you are exuding happiness and joy! Your new freedom is obviously good for your spirit. Enjoy it and congratulations on the journey that brought to being able to hear your heart 🥰
I can't wait to see the build. I love my 2020 forester. Sleep on the 60 side, my stuff on the 40 side. Solar on the roof, bluetti for power needs. Thanks for sharing Bob
@@pambeni5635prebuilt stuff is garbage. Buy one good 200Ah LiFePo4 battery, an isolated DC-DC charger, 2 AWG power wire, some switches, and an inverter. Boom, you’re set to charge your battery bank off your alternator while driving. Lasts forever and you get more Kw per dollar this way than prebuilt poorly named Chinese brands.
Good going! the worst thing is to collect up too many vehicles! Much better to restrict yourself to a single vehicle. Otherwise you are going to go nuts running back and forth trying to maintain all your vehicles, throwing money down the drain and you can only drive one at a time meanwhile the other one is sitting there rotting, Good on you Bob for minimalising your material possessions and lightening up your life for more living and less maintaining
Fabulous Bob, I just turned 70 myself and like you I have been steadily downsizing my rigs. I currently have a van which I will be giving to my daughter. I am going to start living out of my Prius and tent. Pretty amazing. I've gone from travel trailers to motorhomes to vans and finally back to a car. Right back to where I started. Best wishes.
Can we see your layout inside? How you do a bed & bathroom? I have a minivan & have to crouch to use my porta potty - yet grateful for that, just the same - I'd rather have my own private "facilities" than use a public toilet ... how do you manage your bathroom setup?
My kia suv automatically came with a 10 yr 100k warranty . No extra $ out for an extended warranty that the manufacturer should provide anyway. Makes no sense to have a 4-6 yr loan & yet the manufacturer only covers you for 3 yrs. If they knew they had a good product, they'd give you a long warranty. Jus sayin. Continue to enjoy your travels, Bob 😊
Congratulations on your new Subaru and enjoying your freedom. You have helped alot of people and deserve to be happy. We love our Subaru has over 200k miles.
I am so very happy for you. Been following you since the beginning. Love all the changes. Some people want to Travel light, far, and fast. Others want to have a full apartment on wheels, with all the luxuries. And there are so many variations of the two. The preference of each individual needs to be respected. Even when it changes. At the end of the day it’s your life, try it all, and live without regret. Yes! LIVE LIFE! I have been planning to get the Runaway Rouser 6x8, to pull with my 2020 Toyota sienna.
I rented a Subaru Outback during the Oregon ice storm of 2022 and it was a revelation. All the other guys I was contracted with chose Dodge Chargers and Kia and Hyundai vehicles, and they were all stranded at the hotel. I laughed, and reminded everybody, now who’s the soccer mom? Tigard, Oregon has a few extreme hills that most vehicles couldn’t climb, all except the mighty Subaru…
having had a Hyundai awd and a forester, the Hyundai was better in snow, ice and gravel than the forester in the CO mountains. Now it's been a while and I have not tested the new ones but Subaru had a bad bit of time with engine oil leaking problems they did not address for years on many different models until they got threatened with a class action.
@@justindeclemente1130 I love your story. As I mentioned above when I was considering buying a Subaru I decided to hang out in the dealership maintenance waiting room and ask questions because if that will people will be pissed off at their cars if they feel like they're lemons. One of the many compliments that I was told by the Subaru owners was how they "love to climb". Two other people that day told me that their whole families own nothing but subarus.
I had a '15 Foz with the 6spd manual and I absolutely loved that car, I regret now selling it. It served me and my young family (at the time) well and we had many adventures in it. If I could have any one vehicle from my past back, that would be it. 👍Anyway, congrats on your new Forester and I trust it will serve you well too. 🙏Thanks for sharing, take care and Cheers!
I have 2014 outback with a 6 spd manual the clutch is on it’s last leg it’s a bummer. It’s the very last of it kind in the US. It grinds a lot and pops out of gear sometimes. I am surgical at using the clutch and heel toe downshifting so it isn’t a skill issue. The engine is a tank though and has 205k miles and runs fine though.
Congratulations, Bob! In my opinion you made an excellent choice. The only car I ever bought new was my 2003 Subaru Forester and I still have it. I couldn't afford a RAV4 either, so what I did was I sat in the Subaru dealership repairs waiting room where I figured people are generally the most pissed off at their car and I asked people questions about their Subarus. They gave me the most positive answers! So that pretty much sealed the deal for me. Enjoy your freedom.
@@OkieJammer2736 I'm so glad I did it, I consider it one of the smartest things I've ever done in my life. Lol. They were telling me things like their whole family drove Subarus, or how foresters love to climb, or that my outback is 10 years old and just now starting to have a little thing going on here or there. I liked the (2003) Forester over the Outback because it was completely assembled in Japan versus the Outback assembled in the US from Japanese parts, and also the Outback was more expensive.
I live out of my 2014 Subaru Forester. It’s the best decision I ever made. You’re right Bob! It’s complete freedom ❤ I have all terrain tires and she runs like a champ off roading ❤ I’ll never drive another car again. I’ll always have a Subaru
The older I get, I'm starting to like minivans because of the sliding doors. Car doors don't open wide open. Im waiting to see if a new van will come out in a few years. Maybe the Subaru idea or who knows, maybe Chevy may bring back the Astro van.
Subaru Forester... tempting! Am 80, and just got back from a trip up the west coast in my little 2013 Ford Transit Connect van. Went offroad all over the place... 7.2" clearance, FWD goes through most anything except heavy sand. Only 3600 pounds, small and light. Am not comfortable way offroad in much larger, heavier vehicles. Your Subaru looks perfect... should even get you through the occasional sand trap. Space for sleeping? Hey, as long as you can sit up inside, no problem. And it looks like a generic car... perfect for stealth camping!
So happy for you! I traveled this year for 3 months all over Alaska and Northern Canada in my RAV4. Absolutely loved it. So comfortable and cozy. My kids don’t understand why I want to live in it, but it is all about the freedom. ❤
Your excitement and joy over your new setup is so palpitable that it made me smile. I look forward to hearing a 10 year report on the Suburu. 80 is the new 70.
I saw the link and I didn't click on it because I thought it was just him interviewing somebody that had given up their van life and was moving into Subaru. Someone on a forum that I follow posted this and explained that the man the myth the legend was giving up this ambulance and moving into a Subaru, that's why I'm here watching this video
Hey Bob, love how you are always re-inventing yourself! I love too, that you always provide an example for how anyone can live cheaply and make a simple build. I can't wait to see your build! I love the wisdom in how you put freedom as your top priority in life and you truly are living your best life!
I lived in my van once for three months and I lived in my car once for six weeks , I never got a good nights sleep in the car but I slept great in my van . I hope you do well in that little car ❤
It's nice that you're showing people the option for when you have to travel or when you just want to stay at different areas or you want to be on your own private land. I think people get to fixated on one type of living situation when we have so many different options. Congratulations I'm glad your heart is singing with joy with your amazing gas mileage and headroom in your trailer. ❤
Yeah I like having the option of having my very reliable '04 4Runner AWD, Prius, and my motorhome they all do me good for my different living situations. And planning on getting a utility trailer to build out. And start building tiny homes ❤️ so many options. And I absolutely love having a home base. I think that's one of the most important things.
I HAVE THE SAME Subaru; you are right; it goes through everything easily. I am in northern Minnesota, and it's amazing in both snow and mud. Great choice.
I love it! Congratulations Bob! Ironically - i just did the same, sold my camper van for a Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness! Yay for you. Your joy and energy in this video is palpable. Clearly your heart is singing! :)
I’ve been traveling part time in my Subaru Outback, and it works well. I’ve been thinking about getting a camper van, but you have literally changed my mind for now. I really look forward to what you do with your build!! You always lift me up to follow my dreams, thank you!
Thanks for your great ongoing gift to the community Bob - You are one of the great YT personalities! Your boy is very lucky to have such a big hearted positive adventurous Dad! Enjoy that awesome new mission wagon... You are going everywhere now!
Congratulations Bob - two magical words = Freedom and Happiness. Sounds like you are pursuing both with everything you've got - I say go for it! (I am almost 10 years your senior, take care of your health and wear that Subaru absolutely out!). 👍👍
I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU! You have people in place that can help you with your many obligations. I LOVED HEARING THE EXCITEMENT IN YOUR VOICE! Bob, good luck to you on this new chapter in your life. Keep us posted! Love you!
Bob, I have a wonderful idea for the old ambulance. Save it for your museum. You could include a place to play the videos, the ones showing the build and the lifestyle. Trust me you are THAT famous. WHO's with Me??
Hey, a museum would be neat, good reason to drive out and see what his ideas were in person instead of video, Amanda a nice chance for nomads to bump into each other right?
Thanks for this video share, Bob. It's wonderful to see you so empowered to live your best life as you have been helping so many others to do. Many blessings on your next ten years dear man. 🌸❣️🌸
If you want to travel widely with a vehicle, fuel economy and reliability are paramount. New reliable brand and warranty even better. After retiring, I initially planned to buildout a Transit or purchase a Toyota hybrid with a lightweight trailer in tow. After waiting up to a year on orders, I ended switching to a Tesla MY receiving it in less than 2 weeks and then going on 3500 road trip. Did a modest buildout and it has served very well on up to month long trips, from low 20's cold to over 100 in death valley. The built-in heat pump and large battery along with addition of level platform, foam mattress, and window shades makes for comfortable sleep. Better than tent camping with temperature control and sound isolation. Enough storage space including a concealed electric cooler, no need to have external storage that would decrease efficiency. Already 25k miles with road trips in 18 months. Best part is no ICE maintenance and no long-term issues from direct injection, forced induction, or CVT transmissions. BEV travel works fantastic with electric camp sites where you can "fill-up" overnight which can offset the campground fee.
I do understand downsizing the ambulance, but I’m kinda surprised you did not just get another van… you don’t get the mileage of a car for sure, but being that it’s your home…
Bob I can “hear” your heart sing in every word you spoke. I laughed when you described the Subaru’s technology. May you have 100,000 miles of happy trails. 😊
I just did what you did…my choice Chrysler Pacifica with a Hiker square drop…I dropped the middle seats and the van converts into my living room…the set up is great for relaxing in the evenings, watch RUclips, then retire to my bedroom in the hiker. A surprising change for you…and a good one at that. Hope to see you at the RTR this year! Congrats enjoy your newfound freedom😊
Congratulations Bob, your happiness is obvious! After everything you've done for others, you deserve a change of pace. Thank you, I Love You, and I'll see you down the road!! ☮❤😎
Love your video, I just sold a Winnebago Travato with Lithium that I loved, but like you wanted something simpler, so just bought a Rav4 Hybrid that I outfitted with bed platform and mattress. Much less comfort and convenience but with the Travato always something to fix or take care of. It was great, and had all the conveniences, but had the urge to live simplier. Keep up the good work. Just turned 70 also.
I do like my Subaru but I wouldn't be as enthusiastic about their warrantee. Every warrantee claim I've made was a battle. They refused several repairs that later became class action lawsuits and then they reversed course but by then I fixed the problems myself.
I did a van for a few months and I was very comfortable, it was a for econoline, than I switched to a GMC Yukon, and U recently camped in it for a week and I was very uncomfortable, not while sleeping I was fine with either for sleeping, but just space to move around and keep it clean etc is way harder with less space, i gotta have at least a Van
I love this, Bob! I'm now full time on the road, and I'm still in a minivan after 4 years. I won't "upgrade" because of everything you've mentioned. The freedom a minivan gives me is incomparable. The ONE downside is not being able to stand up, but it's not a deal breaker since I like to live outdoors. I owned a Forester many years ago and loved it. Congratulations! Excited to see the build process.
I’m so happy for you. You are a treasure man ❤️ This is the commercial Subaru didn’t know they needed but it’s everything car commercials TRY to show but this is REAL So excited for your new adventures 😎
I’m almost 73 and live in my 24 CRV hybrid. It’s not a great off roader but not bad. Great choice with the Subaru and I think it was a better choice than the Toyota which has had well documented problems lately it seems. Looking forward to the new build. I’m still experimenting with mine. 😊
I totally get it, Bob! I've gone down the rabbit hole for better gear, more gear, bigger rig, etc, and tho I now have an off grid trailer on my piece of property, I camp out of my AWD CRV. Sometimes I take my big Bluetti, solar suitcase, 12v fridge ,SUV tent, etc, but I love that I can camp without all that stuff and sometimes I just wanna Keep it Simple, Stupid. : ) Good for you. You dared to listen to your heart and go and do a 180 with your home/rig! Just one of many reasons you're my hero! : )
I just came off 8 months in a Chevy traverse. Was great for a couple months but all the bending finally did my back in. I am still recovering. I ended up with two blown discs and two pinched nerves. Be careful.
Park the ambulance at your property and use it as a bunk house. Best of luck with your new build!
Likely cheaper to have $5,000 cargo trailer.

Congratulations Bob! I’ve been following you for many years. I’m glad you’re enjoying life, listening to your heart. You truly walk the talk and we all love you for that! ❤
I thought this must be his VERY FIRST video!!! OMG, I’m stunned!! 😮
Same.
I also thought this must be the 1st video or an older one. Less is more!
Welcome to your new freedom, Bob!
I am so happy for you.
When your heart sings you have to go and DANCE 🕺🏽💃🏽
Living in a car is a lot tougher than living in a truck or van. But the nimbleness, mobility, and economical ownership are unbeatable.
Please tell us more about why living in a car is much tougher than a truck or van.
good point. i opted for a highlander, old but good, with one back seat out...
@anastasiahopkinson5676 SPACE.
Nissan versa part time dweller here. Had a Nissan kicks before. Smaller is way tougher because of headroom bathroom usage and room in general
@RAJ_E3 That's what I was wondering, how do you potty in a small vehicle; especially for females??? Can you use a bucket 🪣 in it?
Wow! Thanks for sharing that story!😮 (I was only 6 in 64, so hadn't heard it.)
Wow that's nuts, thanks for sharing
Wow, thanks for sharing that anecdote as I had never heard about it.
Mmm...unless your injured and can't walk out how do you get lost on Kodiak?
@lzemo I was stationed on Kodiak 1979-80 (US Coast Guard Support Center & Air Station) and even though it's a BIG island, you gotta go pretty far inland to get away from the roads.
I’m so happy to hear you are car camping/living and loving it.
I’ve been living out of a Prius for 4 years and
I LOVE IT!
45/50 MPG and I drive anywhere anytime just because….true freedom.
Enjoy!
@kasondaleigh - yes! Prius Gen 3 is my dream car for camping & travel!
2015 prius 3 camper. Love it love it
I have to move back to NYC and of course I can't afford an apartment, I will be living out of my Prius C. Been reviewing some builds and it looks doable.
100% - Why not have the awesome economy the prius offers?
Bob's voice is full of the joy and happiness and lightness of a weight off his shoulders!!!🤗 You do you, way to go!!!
Glad your feeling , happy & free
I exist out of an Outback. It's a super capable rig and I think you fill the space you have. Lees space just means less crap. All my necessary stuff fits in my backpack. Groove much, fret little.
Love your stuff, Bob.
Outback ftw
"Groove much, fret little." I'm writing that one down. 😉
I loved my Outback but I sold it after 5 yrs and 95,000 miles. Got an Ascent. ❤
Where do you go to the bathroom?
@@juliecastagnaro2868when I bought my 2018 RAV4. The ascent was not quite available yet, ... Why the ascent over the outback? ...
That is awesome Bob! It's a good deal. And I never woulda guessed you were almost 70!! Life is treating you great brother.❤🕊️
I’m really happy for you Bob 😊❤️ Well deserved freedom to roam! Happy and safe travels 😎🚐
I bought a new Subaru Forester in 2015. Just oil changes and a new battery so far. No leaks yet. Greet reliable car.
My mechanic told me to keep up with changing the trans and the fluid in the AWD system, and they will last forever. I have an 08 Outback, and he recommended head gaskets when I did the timing belt. Yours is newer, so I do not think yours has potential head gasket issues.
Just FYI, I just got a 2013 Forester with 140K miles and paid additional 7K to replace
lower control arm bushings
wheel bearings
exhaust system, everything except the 2 catalytic converter sensors
Dealer provided a free rental, brand new Subaru Ascent unlimited miles.
My 2014 Forester needs brakes every time I turn around...done brakes 4 times at less than 100k miles...
Congratulations on the new car and piece of mind of the warranty!!! You absolutely deserve it!!!
My dad was a car salesman and always said Subaru #1 by far.
Excited to share your new adventure!!❤
I understand completely. I downsized from a Ford E150 to a minivan. More stealth, double the gas mileage, got rid of all the clutter I never needed from the other van. I'm a much happier camper now.
Build an 'SOS'( Solar off-grid Shed) like I did in Arizona. Park your ambulance in the SOS and use it as you 'home base'. No bills, just power it from the Solar on your roof in the shed and drive your new Subaru where ever you want to go.
That's a good idea and suggestion.
RAV is a solid choice!
You can now get the RAV4 drivetrain in the Mazda cx-50 hybrid...
Just like Subaru, Mazda has teamed up with Toyota to share parts, factories and even ENTIRE drivetrains
Fellow Rav4 camper here! Mine is a 2013 and I LOVE it!
@@timothyp3378 Which year is the Mazda?
@@timothyp3378 Word to the wise, research & don't buy from Mexico factories.
Bluetti is your choice of power needs? Why do you use bluetti? That is my next purchase but wasn’t sure of which brand.
Kudos to YOU Bob for what you bring to this channel and less is more!!!! Great Job!!!!
CONGRATS BOB!!! If anyone deserves a break, it’s you!!
Good going! the worst thing is to collect up too many vehicles!
Looking forward to your adventures. I'm on my third Subaru Forrester! 235,000 and still trucking on!!
I’m in my 10th Subaru and will never change go back to any other brand. It’s awesome
I tried RAV4, Tacoma, and various other cars on Turo to see which one I liked. Just got another Outback, I don’t think I can switch to another car. 😂
I’m so happy for you, Bob. ❤
Bob, your joy and excitement is palpable! Enjoy this new chapter in your adventures!
I drove a Subaru for about 15 years. Not one thing ever wrong on it in the entire time. Good luck on your new ventures in your new Subey.
I'm from Estacada Oregon and you are SPOT ON!!! Way to SHOW "them" how it is done!!!! 👍🎯
Always funny passing Jeeps slipping on snowy roads in my Outback 💪
having had a Hyundai awd and a forester, the Hyundai was better in snow, ice and gravel than the forester in the CO mountains. Now it's been a while and I have not tested the new ones but Subaru had a bad bit of time with engine oil leaking problems they did not address for years on many different models until they got threatened with a class action.
Yay on ur subaru! 💓 its got to be a conspiracy w all the sensors too 😅!! Awesome to be able to have a great warranty!! 👍 😊
That's an EXCELLENT idea - get the reviews live and in person.
It’s complete freedom ❤
I have all terrain tires and she runs like a champ off roading ❤ I’ll never drive another car again. I’ll always have a Subaru
I will never understand why Subaru hasn’t created their own version of the Dodge caravan. It’s exactly what we all need!!!!! PLEASE
Subaru and other Manufacturers do make a sms,l van but, you would not like them. They are mostly for town use. Look up Subaru Sanbar.
I agree! Our last four vehicles were Subarus but when we wanted to travel in retirement using our vehicle to “camp” we had to switch to Chrysler.
The Ascent is pretty large
Yes yes yes!
I have a 2015 Forester that I’ve been driving for over 10 years. 175,000 miles and she is still going great.
i bought a Subaru Forrester and I absolutely love it. I bought it new in 2020 and it has served me very well so far! Congrats!
I’m 62. Started 40’ Class A. Now Subaru Crosstrek & it IS my home. It’s my happy place. There’s no way to express how freeing it is. Take Care!!
Hello Bob, Thanks for sharing ! I am so happy for you! ❤
So happy for you! I traveled this year for 3 months all over Alaska and Northern Canada in my RAV4. Absolutely loved it. So comfortable and cozy. My kids don’t understand why I want to live in it, but it is all about the freedom. ❤
Me too, funny I wonder how many YT folks I must have passed on my trip now
Nice, in 2015 i drove from Florida to Alaska in my little Honda Fit, i had a job waiting for me at PrincessLodge near DNP drove through Canada.
Your excitement and joy over your new setup is so palpitable that it made me smile. I look forward to hearing a 10 year report on the Suburu. 80 is the new 70.
I have a class A but I have been full timing in a Honda fit with my dog for about 2 years now. Absolutely love it.
That’s hardcore lol
I saw the link and I didn't click on it because I thought it was just him interviewing somebody that had given up their van life and was moving into Subaru. Someone on a forum that I follow posted this and explained that the man the myth the legend was giving up this ambulance and moving into a Subaru, that's why I'm here watching this video
Hey Bob, love how you are always re-inventing yourself! I love too, that you always provide an example for how anyone can live cheaply and make a simple build. I can't wait to see your build! I love the wisdom in how you put freedom as your top priority in life and you truly are living your best life!
This
We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our 2017 Forester! We are close to the end of our 100,000 mile warranty. But man, what a car!
I lived in my van once for three months and I lived in my car once for six weeks , I never got a good nights sleep in the car but I slept great in my van . I hope you do well in that little car ❤
Same
Agree. I miss my old Chevy "boogie van". Vans are a good balance of tradeoffs imo.
He got a pointless warranty
WHO's with Me??
that's a mighty fine idea!
I'm happy for you Bob! You have helped so many people, you deserve happiness and a easy ride into your 80's 😊👍.
I do understand downsizing the ambulance, but I’m kinda surprised you did not just get another van… you don’t get the mileage of a car for sure, but being that it’s your home…
Hes so fixated on that $12 to the gallon
Yes! Best video ever. Listen to your gut, be free, be your joyous self. Be present with yourself, with others and really Live! Bless you Bob.❤
So happy for you Bob! Love ya! Thanks for all you do for the people! God bless you!❤
Oh, Bob, I'm SO glad you listened to your HEART SINGING!!! Yay for you!!!
Woohoo 🎉 Congrats Bob !!!! So happy for you & the new sense of freedom! It's never too late to change things up ! ✨️✨️✨️💫
Bob, so happy for you! Your passion for freedom comes through.♥
I do like my Subaru but I wouldn't be as enthusiastic about their warrantee. Every warrantee claim I've made was a battle. They refused several repairs that later became class action lawsuits and then they reversed course but by then I fixed the problems myself.
Congratulations on your new home, Bob
I'm glad you found freedom!❤
I did a van for a few months and I was very comfortable, it was a for econoline, than I switched to a GMC Yukon, and U recently camped in it for a week and I was very uncomfortable, not while sleeping I was fine with either for sleeping, but just space to move around and keep it clean etc is way harder with less space, i gotta have at least a Van
I am absolutely thrilled for you, Bob! What a great (unexpected) video!! 🚙
Good for you Bob! Enjoy!
Btw we love our Subaru, 12 years old and going strong!
Thrilled for you !! Follow your free heart Bob, you've helped so many of us do the same!
I’m so happy for you.
You are a treasure man ❤️
This is the commercial Subaru didn’t know they needed but it’s everything car commercials TRY to show but this is REAL
So excited for your new adventures

I’m almost 73 and live in my 24 CRV hybrid. It’s not a great off roader but not bad. Great choice with the Subaru and I think it was a better choice than the Toyota which has had well documented problems lately it seems. Looking forward to the new build. I’m still experimenting with mine. 😊
I bet you go through that 100,000 miles of warranty a lot faster than 10 years.
Congratulations on your "new found" freedom! It's important to listen to your heart and your instincts. I hope you enjoy every mile.
Congratulations! Fully understand you. Do you have a video of the Scion xA? Would love to see its build. Thank you!
I just came off 8 months in a Chevy traverse. Was great for a couple months but all the bending finally did my back in. I am still recovering. I ended up with two blown discs and two pinched nerves. Be careful.

Wow Bob!!!! How awesome for you! I'm always drawn to van and car living! It is such a cute cozy option AND freedom!!!
