Donna Summer has always been under appreciated... especially by today's generations... I couldn't even imagine a Whitney Houston having the creativity or vocal chops to record such a song ! She is so much more than the queen of disco (which was in reality, about 4 or 5 years of her career), she is the most versatile female voice that pop music has ever had. She is definitely under rated by what I have viewed on line.
Whitney who? Donna Summer was The Voice to me. Still is. Whitney was a great singer too, but Donna's versatility and actress characterizations in her songs made her stand out and much more appealing to listen to. And, she took care of her instrument until the very end. God bless her and Whitney both.
Oh Lord!!!... She's sooooo ADORABLE!!!... I'm still in complete shock!!! I'm so devastated and saddened that Donna is gone!!!... cuz I love her sooo much!!!, Oh my God!!!... her music just brings so much happiness into my life!!! R.I.P. Donna :(
There are no words to describe the artistry of Donna Summer she has left a legacy and broken many glass ceiling and color barriers America we need to dance more. Debra Sinkler
R.I.P. dear Donna! We will always love you. So beautiful voice, such a talented artist that changed the way the pop music sounds! Her songs are a carrier of positive emotions and good mood.
I love donna summer and i love this song, as i love the most of the things she did. thanks donna for being here in this planet the same time i was here. i was very lucky.
At the very beginning I thought it was a weird song, but after 50 seconds, I understood the real meaning of it and I fell in love with the melody and the beat!!! Donna Summer was one gorgeous woman, one of the best female voices in music history! GREAT SONG!
I remember waking up on a Saturday morning at about 5.30am hearing this song being played by my sister and thinking I was dreaming. She played it over and over and I stayed awake listening to it. That's how good thing song was.
The song is also essentially perfect-bridges, breaks, fantastic melody all building to a record you want to put on replay 30 times. One of the best single pop songs of the entire decade. Just see if you can listen to it only once, lol.
so right, Walter... i vividly remember being totally baffled in 1987 when this tune hit the airwaves and then went no where with the public or with radio. i remember too thinking at the time, "Donna, you're back on top with this one" and then....nothing. The All Systems Go album tanked as well and that collection of tracks is sublime. Try to understand or figure out the music industry. You can't.
Again, it's an unknown. Just put it on again for at least the fortieth time. Not being biased, I was never a collector of Donna's work, but this record deserved to WIN a Grammy for best single. The combination of Donna and Brenda working together was just at least a notch above all the other female vocalists of the period. This is a RECORD!
well, over the past four decades i've collected pretty much everything Donna ever did and "All Systems Go" definitely qualifies as some of her best work. Her LP/CD "Mistaken Identity" from 1991 also qualifies in the same category, but for what ever reason, it did not resonate with the public either. The reason undoubtedly had everything to do with her record companies just not promoting her. Had the public gotten more of a taste of these tracks via radio play as they did during Donna's reign in the late 70s (example, the Bad Girls album) both MI and ASG would have rightfully found their places at the top. Both of these albums are superior products. Nobody can rightfully argument that.
Are you kidding me this song got so much air play doing the summer of 1987 on NYC station like 98.7 kiss fm and WBLS. I first heard this song on the streets of Newark while being played kiss fm. It was one of the top 9 at 9pm on kiss fm for weeks.
I always liked this song! I'm 19 and mum used to play it at home since I was 5! I adore you my beautiful Donna Summer... I always adored you. R.I.P endless voice.
Like so many mornings, i wake up with a tune in my head, and RUclips has it always. It's a 100 % success rate with RUclips. This song is so crisp and amazing now i listen to it again.
I sat and was trying to think of the words of this amazing song. The concept is amazing .I wanna have dinner with Gershwin .Just to be in the company of a few geniuses in history .Wow Brenda Russell and Donna Summer. In my opinion this is her best.
Donna Summer is right up there with Elvis and Frank Sinatra.....she was the queen of disco and more. Back in 1979, I went to see "Thank God it's Friday" at a cinema/theatre in LA and the "audience" quite literally got up and applauded when she first appeared........awesome stuff!!!!
I can't stop listening to this beautiful masterpiece. And crying . Queen you definitely did your job .Thank God Brenda Russell wrote this and you fell in love with it .We all want one touch of Greatness in our lives .Thank you Brenda Russell you are a Genius to come up with lyrics like this.
Donna is sadly missed- but her musical inspiration and her even more importantly her spirit lives on. This is a really nice vibe song and Donna really made some wonderful songs in her musical life. Just listening to this song makes me feel so good.. I adore Donna's voice and would like to thank you with great appreciation for posting this fab video. Tony.
When the USA were ignoring summer over alleged comments about gay people. She was still having success in the UK. this bring back good memories.I have the album all systems go.
i have always loved donna voice from a little girl she was a true gift from god to us her voice was just beautiful i am sad she is gone now but her music lives on forever thank you miss donna summer
My favorite music video of Donna Summer's reminds me of Jody Watley a little bit singing in the deep voice like Still a Thrill song of Jody Watleys, they kind of looked a like too.
Not alone at all...I had my first kiss with my now husband while this song was playing! I remember back in 1983 Donna Summer came back to Boston to get an honorary diploma from the high school she went to and she gave a free concert to the city. The mayor proclaimed it "Donna Summer Day".I skipped school so I could see her. Will never forget any of her music, Rest in peace Donna and sorry we wont get to hear anymore new music.
Donna's early days in theater in Munich (Hair) always served her well. Her moves are always perfectly restrained, expressive, and have a professionalism few in popular music could approach. She always knew exactly what she was doing physically on stage and transcended labels of dancer, performer, etc. She just did it.
Sad news to lose such an amazing talent.God Bless, Donna. Thank you for being such an inspiration and for giving such a joyful soundtrack to my life - I will always love Disco- you made us all want to dance!
God, I really love this Donna Summer hit from the 80's. If I remember, I was in my last year at senior school. Remember listening to this on the radio in the mornings. GREAT SONG!! GREAT MEMORIES!!
Dinner With Gershwin for me is up there with I Feel Love for me. In 1987 I listened to this and watched the video over and over as well as the Solid Gold performance. Such a GENIUS track and unfortunately wasn't as big as it should have been. R.I.P Donna and thank you so much for making this absolutely immaculate track as well as many others, bless xoxo
The incomparable Donna Summer! I saw her in Minneapolis in 2005, where she joked about her age. I shouted "You have a beautiful voice", to which she replied "Yeah, for a 90 year old!" Who can be likened to her? My favorite female singer, w/o a doubt!!!
"I wanna get close to you." Donna, I want to go back to singing and sing with the same joy and conviction you always showed and maybe then I will be if not as excellent as you, then one very happy performer that takes a queue from one the best there ever was.
finally this album and many of donnas other cds are being reissued in re mastered form at a reasonable price. I,m getting this album and the quincy jones produced donna summer album.damn she was hot! and the power of her voice un rivalled today !!
Donna was never underrated. She may not have sold albums like MJ but she was not underrated and is the queen of disco and there are songs out there by her that have made her a disco icon. She had a great life and an amazing career and more importantly; did it her way.
She sold plenty of albums, sold over 20 million in the US at the end of the 70's with Casablanca Records (not to mention the ones that went unrecorded and/or sold on the black market). She was a much bigger star than MJ was in the 70's. She pop music's first female mega star. She is under-certified by the RIAA, because they only had Gold/Platinum certifications until the fall of 1984, and her record certifications have never been officially updated.
What made Donna standout so MUCH was that she understood the profound soulfulness of the African American musical tradition but was ALSO able to marry it to a highly intellectual and conceptual brilliance that appealed to a multitude of cultures.
Pretty much. Donna was raised in Boston and had a up on all kinds of culture. Including going to Munich for a while. She was very worldly in her music outlook.
#RIPDonnaSummer This *4 Minute Slice of Heaven* still makes my *Soul* so very *Happy* (Her Greatness, Her *Voice*, Her Magnitude...was never fully grasped or *appreciated*)
pezzo stratosferico, mi viene sempre la pelle d'oca quando sento questa intro...sarai sempre tu la Regina indiscussa della Discomusic!......stratospheric piece, I always get chills when I listen to this intro....you will always be the undisputed Queen of Discomusic!
I love this song to death! This song is one of her most underrated songs in her song catalog!
Absolute TRUTH
Her best ever song 😘
1987
Donna Gaines!!! Thats her name!!!!
Me too
How underrated is Donna Summer as a singer, even now? She sings with such warmth and feeling. She's got the power but she never shows off.
Very 😢
This song is addictive, can't stop listening to it.
Donna Summer was simply a great singer and a beautiful woman .God bless her.
Donna Summer has always been under appreciated... especially by today's generations... I couldn't even imagine a Whitney Houston having the creativity or vocal chops to record such a song ! I concur with your analysis.
I agree with everything you said about Donna Summer! Nobody compares to her talent!
Whitney who? Donna Summer was The Voice to me. Still is. Whitney was a great singer too, but Donna's versatility and actress characterizations in her songs made her stand out and much more appealing to listen to. And, she took care of her instrument until the very end. God bless her and Whitney both.
Zunelander I agree with every single word you said! I love them both!
Donna was awesome , don't really see the need to shit on Whitney though she could really blow too
Oh Lord!!!... She's sooooo ADORABLE!!!... I'm still in complete shock!!! I'm so devastated and saddened that Donna is gone!!!... cuz I love her sooo much!!!, Oh my God!!!... her music just brings so much happiness into my life!!! R.I.P. Donna :(
This song and the way she carries it are beyond awesome, beyond amazing. I can't listen just once....I need to listen more and more.
What a awesome track still sounds fresh, And a big hit in the UK made the top 20 :-]
There are no words to describe the artistry of Donna Summer she has left a legacy and broken many glass ceiling and color barriers America we need to dance more. Debra Sinkler

GREAT SONG!
I remember driving through the streets of Miami, in college, when this jam came on the radio...I really had the wind at my back!!!!
Sounds like so much fun to be you when this song was jamming! Thanks for the memory!
I remember waking up on a Saturday morning at about 5.30am hearing this song being played by my sister and thinking I was dreaming. She played it over and over and I stayed awake listening to it. That's how good thing song was.

It really IS brilliant!!!!!

Uno dei migliori pezzi di Donna Summer !!!
My favorite music video of Donna Summer's reminds me of Jody Watley a little bit singing in the deep voice like Still a Thrill song of Jody Watleys, they kind of looked a like too.
I noticed that too..Jody Watley does resemble Donna Summer a little .
1987
Donna was so sophisicated and gorgeous in this music video! The song itself makes me smile. I enjoy it.
