The bubble color was NEVER about identifying Android users! Waaaay back when Apple gave the middle finger to the carriers and allowed iPhone users to text each other for FREE, (instead of paying carriers by the character) Apple highlighted SMS as a different color than iPhone messages. SMS was the default protocol if not iMessage, now it will be RCS when it’s not iMessage.
Now this makes sense
Apple didn’t create the problem intentionally, people did that themselves. Apple do however now benefit from it and are happy to have that thought exist in young people’s minds.
Finally someone who knows the truth.
@@b11480 not only did Apple not create this problem, but the “people” who did were High Schoolers! The absolute apex predators of our lifetimes. Nothing will stop their judgmental snickering when they decide what’s in or out. They will ALWAYS find something! I honestly don’t know a single adult who cares about “bubbles”. Even the media has to admit it’s a bunch of kids being kids.
Ahhh your right i remember this!
‘Fondled by Time Cook’ best line ever. 😂
If you have issues with the color of the bubbles when texting, you need to grow up. It's sad that this is a thing to begin with. At least when I had a Windows phone, I could change the colors of the text screen and bubbles to what I wanted. But sadly Microsoft effed it up (as usual) and we don't have a legit third choice for an OS for phones.
If you actually care about the color of a text message, you are one very shallow person. I honestly don't think anyone will really care about the green chat bubbles and just be happy that we can now share high res pics and videos, read receipts, and have group chats between android and iphone now. This will be a great thing.
Yeah this sounds like one of the bullied kids of green bubble💀
Found a shallow person, more basic than Wonderbread
Don’t ever give your Apple ID information to another person (Nothing). If you do that, just go ahead and give it to the NSA, FBI, and the CCP.
Now this is solid advice right here
As if they need you to give it to them..
Yeah but if you use it just for messaging then its not that bad
Why u scared of the cops? U hiding some pedo ring u all up into?
If you have a separate account for messaging there is no downside other then if the service just goes offline. Because the other option (sms) has no encryption and the carriers and all the three letter agencies can see it anyways
I love the direction this channel has gone. It’s separating itself from these other “leaks” channels and really giving us things to think about & gives a different sort of insight into the news and leaks coming out of Apple and other companies. I love this channel. I’ll be a subscriber for as long as Jern is a youtuber
Apple 1000000000% did this just so they wouldn't have to be forced to put RCS on the iphone and instead put their marketing spiel
this is so true.
Wrong.
Governments shouldn’t be getting that involved to begin with.
No one marketed this. This was just a quiet little press PR release. Only founded out about this because I’m a tech nerd who reads MacRumors and 9to5Mac.
if you think anything apple does is “quiet” you are quite naive
Apple should make the RCS chats purple bubbles because it's important to differentiate SMS from RCS
I'd honestly absolutely love to see purple bubbles.
I think the Nothing iMessage thing is not too bad. For me as an Apple Guy I wouldn’t use this because I don’t have android stuff. But for people that are not even Apple People and don’t even have an Apple ID they could create one for this App and since they don’t use Apple anyway it wouldn’t be bad if their credentials were stolen.
So glad Apple is Finally adopting RCS, and Apple already confirmed the bubble colors will not change. But it's not the end of Apple, they just need to get with the program like the rest of the world. Also RCS is more secure than SMS or MMS.
No it’s not. At least not with iMessage. Apple said end to end encryption be the same between iMessage users but will not be between iMessage and non iMessage users. That will be up to the carriers to enable.
I disagree. Governments dictating product decisions like this is a can of worms you don’t really want opened.
@@CeeMKERCS support is not a feature being added to iMessage. RCS will be an additional form of communication available in the iOS Messages app, alongside iMessage, MMS, and SMS. iMessage is always encrypted, but will still only be available to other iOS users.
@@CeeMKEregardless, rcs is better and safer than sms/mms. Might not be on the same level with iMessage, but is still a welcome improvement. I for one have multiple friends and family with an android, and I would absolutely love to send and receive pictures that don’t looks like they were taking on a camera from 25 years ago
@charless.1106 RCS is more secure, apple's implementation is not. Because "fuck you youll buy this shit anyway."
One of the best advice in End and one of the most Epic endings on this show 😂
10:25 you forget that most android users don't have apple ID. So they would have to create a new account. Most won't even worry if the account is stolen because there's pretty much nothing on that account. They only signed up to try the iMessage. But if you were an iphone user then yes there would be a lot to worry about.
Still if the data is encrypted at the server level then there is nothing to worry about.
About time, RCS should be everywhere
Apple obviously had the RCS change in the pipeline but I wouldn’t be surprised is Carl Pei had at least something to do with the announcement happening right now.
I found it funny how Carl open iMessage on Android but ONLY for Nothing phones. Same way he was making fun of Apple for leaving iMessage just for Apple
to be fair to him, he is trying desperately to grow his company and he would be actually braindead if he rolled this out everywhere. Keep in mind that this is a partnership between sunbird, and Carl really has no control over their server capacity either. I'd be surprised if sunbird could do this with any other manufacturer and not instantly blow up their servers
RCS, the iPhones 16 greatest upgrade ever, this is real ambition, courage, setting the industry standard.
One thing I don't understand as an European is the fact that iMessage still needs internet connection to work, compared to SMS which use carrier credit. I've seen friends with iPhones that still get green bubbles from other iPhone users and I thought that was the norm lol, people still saving on data, which is weird considering the US carrier prices are like 10x more expensive for the same amount.
iMessage runs on WiFi and cellular data, you can go into settings to turn this on or off.
I’ve actually never seen anyone out in the world with a Nothing phone.
its because u were asking them the wrong way. when u asked some rando, it went like this: What are holding in your hand? Response: Nothing. What are going to use if you need to call someone? Response: Nothing
@@srobeck77 Nothing, like wishful thinking.
@@erichc5814 plus, how do u measrement the amount of Nothing
So far I’m ok with Apple being pushed, pulled, or cattle prodded to make these changes. But I do worry about the slippery slope too
They cave to china's every whim
Its been confirmed that Sunbird in fact "misrepresented" some of the qualities of their service, like the end-to-end encryption. I love life sometimes
How does RCS hurt Apple? I guess it removes some of the lock in aspect and might help with kids being bullied. But that wont impact Apple negativitly IMO
Exactly, people would still use iMessage.
If you’re referring to the slippery slope section, he’s referring to potential future regulations, not this one.
Eating broccoli won’t negatively affect a person so we should force feed them broccoli every day.
@@firebrand_vinay requiring a standard is important. All this does is limit the need for sms and mms, which are very dated. Apples refusal to include things like USB C was not for the consumers benefit, it was for apples pocket book
Its not the fact that they have to add rcs but the fact that they were forced to do it by EU. Which means if this trend continues eu could eventually just force apple to become android
I'm definitely looking forward to RCS and the redesign home screen coming to ios 18.
Amazing info thank you very much i have been waiting so long for
usb-c on iphone, once rcs is out no more iphone for me
There's always gonna be a green bubble. Apple has to keep class distinction so we know our place. Us poor folk are down here on the bottom levels, eating lobster.
It was never about that though. It was about identifying SMS only, since they were letting people text for free through iMessage than through the carrier.
Lobster? I hardly know'er!
@@SLD-bz9so that was like 15 years, so that excuse doesnt carry any weight for over a decade now.....just sayin
S23 Ultra cost more than most iPhones
Apple users: they poor
@@planetphatness your definitely arent comparing apples to apples here. The Ultra has way more ram, better camera specs, and the s-pen. In reality, if you compare similiars specs, the The Samsung S23 is a little cheaper than the iphone 14 equilvilent.
Plus, in greedy fashion Apple downgraded the non-pro screens to only 60hz.
Tested sunbird for the first time in the UK. Really works well. Maybe too good 😂
...."Some dude making tens of phones".
Just lost it right there. 😆
just something i didn't see you mention is that iPhone is going to work with GSM to have RCS Universal Profile have E2EE encryption by default.
they basically dont want to use Googles E2EE because they dont want Google to have that power on those messages.
Then it’s much appreciated
I was waiting on this video lmfao good stuff!!!!
Google stated that they are working with GSMA and will work with Apple to add E2EE to the GSM version of RCS. Google will still use Jibe on the Android side.
I like how you celebrate the most simple change on a device thats still has the design from 15 years ago 😂
Thanks for this.
Love that Nothing’s app got pulled after a single day for privacy concerns 😂
Nothing just pulled this Chats app out of PlayStore due to "bugs" - which are actually serious security flaws.
Did you have to give them your Apple ID. That was a flaw in itself
@@Drkbardockssj imessage requires appleid already so that’s needed. Though there’s methods that don’t use 3rd party servers like pypush which is command line at the moment that can use iMessage very limited.

USB C port on iPhone pro max sucks! I am about $150 in on buying cords and adapters trying to find one that doesn’t disconnect CarPlay randomly constantly 😢 It’s dangerous to have to reconnect phone and navigation while driving on highway!
Missed opportunity to change the green to grey just to piss off Google
Thanks for all the info. Lmfao and the ending, I lost my shit on that one man 😂
6:30 " Just like usb-c, this hurts nobody and benefits everybody"
Hypocrisy at it's finest.
You've bitched about it for 6 months before the release on iPhone 15.
And how the Eu is bad, etc.
Now you're praising it.
Every time I watch this dude, I just realize if the world ends today, it will be caused by those Apple users, the ones people call sheep
USB-C was added to iPhone not because of pressure from the EU. It’s about recording those high data rates to the external SSD drives. Imagine trying to transfer that data on usb 2 speeds. 😂
USB-C was officially mandated by the EU, not just pressured.
RCS was pressured by EU, but they didnt mandate it yet.
not the “tens of phones…” 😂😂😂 u cold!!! but its funny as hell😂😂😂
re: the 'C' port vs Euro thing.. Research shows Apple was working on changing the entire line way before someone else's 'demands' came into the picture. The court proceedings delayed the date by which it was ordered only as far into the future as Apple needed to get it done on Cupertino's schedule. 'Nuff said.
🤣 the opening... 😅
i think its not a lose for nothing cz it still uses servers which are running imessage on macs so it will be a feature for nothing phone users cz only their messages will show up as blue bubbles for iphone users and all the good imessage stuff. So its a win win for them
It’s interesting how Apple has clearly stated they will be working with the GSMA on RCS.
This is why it SUCKS to have investors. That’s the reason why Apple can’t ask the EU to buzz off.
Maybe the EU will mandate that android software be put on an iPhone.
😂😂😂
Nah
I enjoyed this episode of fa pa ta 😂😂😂
Welcome to the rough marketing waters, Jon! It's just marketing, no qualms. I do admit it does sting at the receiving end sometimes though!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Apple 100% will still make android users show up as green calling it now
Edit
I commented before watching the whole video
You to late they already said the green bubble for Android will stay.
It’s literally in the video. Green bubbles are here to stay.
They literally said that captain obvious 😂😂😂
@@ThatShitGoodi literally updated my comment hours before you commented…..
I don't think that it is a really really big issue? Green bubble or blue bubble is not a problem. It's just that Google Android cannot compete Apple and they can't seem to have the security that I message offers. And if somehow when you're online you'll send the message through your carrier, isn't it?
WE GOT THERE THE ONLY WAY WE COULD'VE!!! I mean I feel like if theh go too far and there ia backlash eu will stop because there won't be reason to do it...
Thank you for this video
Great job eu. Now we need sideload apps to ios
You can just create an appleID to use for this feature and not have any important information linked to it. There's loop holes for everything.
Don't mind the green bubble and blue bubble. They can use that to lock in their customers. But it's unfortunate apple is not adding end to end encryption. Says a lot about how they care about consumers privacy.
The ironic part is how Apple markets privacy as a selling point but then does this
tonight i had to choose between "rome", "sopranos" and "rick&morty". i chose you john prosser
Carl Pei definitely had something to do with the apple RCS merge. Stop it!
I love my Apple products but I'm also happy to see Apple put in it's place. Sorry you don't like how it happened but this was THE ONLY WAY we were going to get RCS and USB-C on iPhone. Apple would have never supported right to repair if they didn't see the writing on the wall. Apple will always choose what's best for them over what's best for their customers unless forced otherwise.
I agree . Apple would've never caved in and changed the way they do things.
Agreed. RCS and USB-C were needed
Good afternoon 😊 holiday season
@FPT @John @everyone else, if your not aware if you set up two factor protection on your account you can setup app specific passwords and then use that password for it and they won’t have access to your other Apple ID stuff
lol there is already beeper which does the same job
Living in Germany, I almost see only green bubbles. Sad tho they implement it without end to end encryption (?!) since I wanted to get rid of WhatsApp when RCS goes live. But now… well… time will tell…
“HOORAY FOR ME BILLY!”

Me and my equipment will always be fondled by Tim Cook! 👍🏻
I will never understand Apple shills.
Jon, you are such an Apple fanboy you might as well be an employee
On one hand you complain about the slippery slope, but then you skip over the fact that they have ignored USB-C and RCS for 5+ years
I’d say Apple’s response is “oh you want to force us to do stuff again? F-U”
Tens of phones. Bodied. ☠
There is something so satisfying when you type in a new number and it immediately turns blue (so you know you typed it right 😌)
I've heard about this whole blue bubble green bubble thing around older teens but my brother just started highschool and guess what, none of them text. Everyone just uses snapchat. It doesn't even matter that he has a Samsung phone.
i mean... if i have android. and I want iMessage I'm not using my apple ID for anything else. All that stuff you just listed. Is on my Google account?
So that Nothing Chats/Sunbird thing went well
Apple said non-iMessage messages will be green. So not the end of classist BS. heh.
Google also uses different bubble colors to differentiate between RCS and non-RCS. I don’t really see the difference tbh.
Very good point. People tend to point the finger at Apple and kind of consider them the leader in all the wrong ways. When in reality they’re definitely the leader in most areas but they really do much more good than harm. Most of what they do that’s not great is something that either everyone else it doing or everyone else immediately copies (including a charger anyone?)
@@Epicgamer_Mac You can tell that they’re the market leader, because they’re the only ones who get any real scrutiny. Never mind that Android copied the gestures from iOS 11 wholesale, as well as a lot of the modern iOS animations starting in Android 12, or that some features we take for granted now like NFC payments were done first on iOS. That never really gets any attention; instead, Apple gets mocked whenever they do something that Android has already done, even if they make an effort to put their own spin on it.
@@halkon4412 Yup, I do agree with you for sure. And Apple’s not perfect but when they screw up we REALLY hear about it, whereas it gets swept right under the rug with everybody else!
@@Epicgamer_Mac
@halkon4412
I never said Google didn't. But this woudln't be the modern internet if we didn't engage in whataboutism. As far as Apple always getting dinged while others are let off the hook ... please tell me you live in a bubble without telling me you live in a bubble. If you swept a Note 7 under the rug, it would have exploded. If you want to have a proper anti-trust trial, ya gotta invite Google to the party. And for good measure, invite Microsoft an make sure they bring the Halloween Documents.
yadda yadda yadda. 🙄
10:30 but Jern, i don't use Apple ID for anything else (Android Lifer), could this Nothing Chat be something for these type of users? I will never, never, use an iPhone for my daily driver. I used to work at at&t mobility tech support and delt with enough (PCs (Macs included), Blackberry, WebOS, Palm OS, Android and Apple OS) devices to hate the iPhone.
Now I would buy a MacBook, if i could afford it. And, would love to buy Apple AirTags if they had an Android app for tracking easy. But i don't because I'm not going to workaround in a browser.
Well you still sign in with that Apple ID on some Mac in a server farm. On said Mac, your messages can be read.
@ 0:02 This is gold! Please make this a Tik Tok clip.
Tbf, a vast majority of android users dont actually have any data in icloud. The only thing they would be risking is their messages
What if the EU mandated any app published in the Play Store must also be published in the App Store (and vise versa). Could this be a possibility?
Nope, but next up EU is going to be forcing Apple to allow side loading, which could be a good thing
I don’t understand what the big deal is about your Apple ID being on a Mac mini on some server farm. If you are an android user you’ve never had an Apple ID before you’ve never made purchases or have anything stored in the cloud anyways. Android users are just making an Apple ID for texting. The only concern is making sure you don’t text sensitive content if you even care.
Okay starting off I’d like to say that I like the idea of the eu making usb-c a standard for electronic devices however If you have a Taco stand that only serves tacos with chicken then should you be forced into serving tacos with beef just because your competition across the street sells them, and then being forced into serving beef tacos by a government? This sounds like a power move.
sunbird : "don't worry android you will have blue bubble too"
People who buy Android, do not use icloud or apple id... if they sign up and use apple id to sign in, it's just specifically for imessages
Apple has stated that they will be working with the GSM org Tomás encryption to RCS by the time they launch. Come on Jhon. You can so better
They’re not changing the green bubbles
I agree with you, where does the intrusion stop once the EU got their foot in the back door?

So if you Apple or apple sheep helping people communicate better is a bad thing ? Gotta love humanity
Wow, he literally said the opposite in the video and you’re still mad!
I mean he literally said he was happy with the change. You not watch the video after 1 minute went by?
I would laugh if RCS messages are orange bubbles.
The way it is. If I just move away from Apple, I won't have to deal with any of these issues.
Not true because someone in your life with have an iphone
skipped ahead through the video and he was going on about giving apple IDs to hobos 😂
This is end to end decryption lmao
They should make rcs another color
It really does not affect us here in Asia. We seldom use imessage anyways.
as an android user im happy for the casual texts that i do but this doesnt effect my group chats that are on whtasapp and signal. but it was a painful process getting iphone users to just download a F******* app to make the group chat better
"think about all the stuff that is on your apple id that they will be able to see" yeah, all the nothing other than the messages an Android user would have. Sure if you don't want your messages seen then yes it is an issue, but it's likely nothing else is gonna be compromised if you are using an android phone.
But Jurn
Couldn’t this be 200 IQ move to say to EU see iMessage doesn’t have to be opened up to android ?
This man has been touched by Tim Cook
I don't think people who use nothing chats have an apple id
