People should learn how statistics work. If you want an IOS device you only have one manufacturer to choose from. On the other hand, Android offers hundreds of manufacturers. In total Apple only has approximately 16% global market share. If more manufacturers could offer an IOS device this chart would look different.
people are losing their brain cells every day. how hard is it to read the chart. the chart says bestselling phones per model. there are only 4-5 iPhone models to choose from. but on the android side, there are over 500 models to choose from. so even if 80% of the mobile users in the world use android, that 80% is shared by 500 different models. and the rest 20% is shared by 4-5 iPhone models. and if you do the math, the 20% will have the bestselling model.

I will argue that we need more mobile OS choices, not the phones themselves. Most phones use Android and iPhone is winning because of iOS (and its ecosystem with the other Apple OS). However, I think it is too late for anew OS to drop in (unless they are Linux distros)
why would anyone want to only have one phone platform survive? Imagine having the option of only one car to buy, or one style of jeans from the same company. Having options spurs innovation and competition. Not sure if I want the company that limits USB-C speeds on the non pro models to USB 2.0 transfer speeds, or the same company that won't display the temperature 69 on it's phone for some reason (maybe they think their buyers aren't mature enough to see that without giggling). More importantly, why would anyone cheer on the demise of competition for devices that we get our information and content from? As for ecosystem, that is as silly an argument as "green bubbles".
It's a catch 22 if one platform is completely purged. If iOS is purged, you will eventually lose the freedom given by Android. If Android is purged, you wouldn't have all the cool software features in iOS being developed as fast, and most apps probably wouldn't exist. If the iSheep wanna be locked down by Apple, let them. It's great for quality of life tbh
I'm vendor-agnostic within the Android ecosystem. I've owned multiple different models from HTC, Sony, LG, Samsung over the years. I go with whoever has the best specifications (fastest SoC, most storage and RAM, smallest, lightest in the 6.2"-6.7" range - I believe 6.4"/6.5" is ideal). I can't consider Apple because of how proprietary and locked down they are. I need to be able to customise my home screen to the way I like it and to be able to just plug my phone into any computer and copy files to/from it without any special software. I am keen to move to a folding phone when they're 8mm thin and a normal screen ratio on the outside that just folds out to a nice small tablet without added thickness when folded in normal use. Apple doens't seem to be doing anything in this space either. Samsung is really pioneering.

China dropped, cause most middle class already bought their iPhones, remember China went through a huge economic development in the last few decades, so between that period and now, the sales of iPhones were inflated higher than other countries, but now the market has desaturated, still growing faster than other brands, only Huawei and Xiaomi have a huge presence and that's mainly due to nationalism The same thing is happening in India and many other countries.
@@FrontPageTech yes you do, but you look at 10 top sold, not at total market. Total sales of 10 most popular devices consists only of 19.8% of total sales of all mobile devices. So Apple is 70% of that 19.8%.
Not really, they have just shown the chart of the most popular devices. Apple generally owns the flagship market as they have over 80+% market share in flagships and as you should know flaship market is the main market that makes profits as cheaper devices have much lower operating margins. In total apples q4 global marketshare was the highest of any phone brand @23% (historically samsung used to be over 30% and since then fell)

I switched from android to iPhone when the iPhone 15 came out. The eco system drew me in through the iPad I used for university. There's definitely pros and cons to both but I like the consistency and interoperability that won out for me. Never cared about the whole iMessage green bubble/blue bubble thing, but I did care about cross-device apps and switching smoothly between phone to tablet to computer ect.
So who's gonna tell him that if Apple's market share is 29.27%, Android's market share is over 70%... Highest selling phone models aren't a good metric, because one company (like Apple) may have very few models, while another company (like Xiaomi) may have very many models. So say people buy a new Xiaomi, maybe a million people, they will all get various phones, so not one phone will have a million from those sales. If a million people buy a new iPhone, well the 15 is the new iPhone, so the iPhone 15 series (split over 3 models is it?) will get the million sales.
the chart shows best selling phone models. not best selling phone manufacturer/operating system. from that pov iphone 14 was sold the most. the chart is there to tell the most bought phone model not the most bought phone manufacturer.
Just choose what works for you. I love compact devices and I was a diehard android fan before I switched to the apple with an iPhone 11 pro. It was a great phone but a little bit heavy for me. When I saw the 13 mini, I said thats it. Hardware-wise it was the peak smartphone, everything you need in that small device. I gave 11 pro to my cousin and bought the 13 mini. I used it for 2 years and recently I switched back to the android again with Zenfone 10.

I have been around for the smartphone wars ever since Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) was new. Crazy how times have changed, and I’m not entirely sure it’s for the better.
I usually switch between Android and iPhone every time I get a phone. The biggest issue I run into is disconnecting my number from iMessage. I like the iPhone but I am usually tempted by the customization and technology on Android. My last phone upgrade was an iPhone 13 Pro to a Google Pixel Fold. I plan on using this phone until it breaks or apple comes out with something more tempting.
I got rid of my iPhone recently within the last month. I haven't ever been tied down to an ecosystem before. I switch between the two every once in a while, but I started liking android more.
Overall in all price ranges, yes, but if we see the numbers from Apple's entry price point i.e $800, Apple dominates with over 70%, it's basically like Androids are what you use while you hold out until you can afford to get an iPhone.
I was Android until December 2016. It lost its magic for me. I’ve been with iPhone since. I’ve been happy with it. But, even if I wanted to switch, I couldn’t. I’m too deep into the Apple Ecosystem. They got me. I even got the flippin credit card!
If you add up the %s of each Apple model in that first chart, it's 16% of total sales. Would've been better to show all models with >1% or >0.75%. As is, the chart implies Apple market dominance which is simply not the case globally, and maybe not even the case in the US.
the ACTUAL reason why iphones are all in the top 10, is cause whoever wants to buy new ios phones is limited to those. BUT, in android, there are dozens of companies making new phones, so most people opt for what suits them best, and the sales split into more phones. for example, my friend group, 6 people, all have different androids. i have a realme gt2 pro, one friend has the samsung a 54, another the xiaomi note 13 pro, another has a motorola and the last friend of mine has a poco. if it were only one android company, like samsung for example, samsung would most likely have the top phones, as android marketshare is higher and those phones would be purchased by the people who preffer android, making the numbers overall bigger.
Depends on how you use it. If I swap from Android to iOS, I lose access to games I bought on Google Play, as well as TV episodes bought through Google Play. Google already purged my music library, but I saved that before Google Music shut down. Edit: big thumbs, small keyboard
Which makes the phone world boring and I am iPhone user. Because when Apple wins it just a slight bump every year and Apple doesn’t have to stretch themselves.
I’ve pretty much exclusively used iPhones since iPhone 7, and this news sucks. Apple needs good competition, if you think their prices are high now, wait till android doesn’t have any market share…
Honestly I was a lifetime android user, but I upgraded from my Note 9 to the iphone 15 pro max. But I did so purely for my business (because all of my clients use imessage). Other than that though, I miss Android in so many ways. I am so limited and restricted on this iphone. I will jump back to Android as soon as I can - which will hopefully be when RCS support comes to iphone. Then I don't have to worry about imessage. But ya I don't see iphone winning the way because their device is actual shit. If their device was good, then ya.

If a million people buy a new iPhone, well the 15 is the new iPhone, so the iPhone 15 series (split over 3 models is it?) will get the million sales.
the chart shows best selling phone models. not best selling phone manufacturer/operating system. from that pov iphone 14 was sold the most.
the chart is there to tell the most bought phone model not the most bought phone manufacturer.

the ACTUAL reason why iphones are all in the top 10, is cause whoever wants to buy new ios phones is limited to those.

I’ll be “that guy”. I switched to the S24 Ultra two weeks ago after being on iPhone since the iPhone 5.
It’s not over because most of the phones aren’t available in the United States should as Hawei , and other phones
It's US only, iOS are losing market share globally and especially in Asia
Which makes the phone world boring and I am iPhone user. Because when Apple wins it just a slight bump every year and Apple doesn’t have to stretch themselves.
Man the quality is skyrocketing with each video you post! From the presentation to the sound 🤌🏽
Always a good way to end the night here in Poland 🙂↕️
Same here in the Amsterdam 01:29 am
I’ve pretty much exclusively used iPhones since iPhone 7, and this news sucks. Apple needs good competition, if you think their prices are high now, wait till android doesn’t have any market share…
this list is most popular phone models sold. but if you shift to most popular os ,its android, its misrepresentation of facts...
You know what's pretty funny? He just laid the DoJ case right here and he didn't even know it.
But there have been so many glitches and just stupid decisions apple makes that I am already sick of this thing after only 6 months.
Probably not going to receive a response to this question, but... I love FPT's music choice. I miss when the show used to have credits at the end and I remember your library used to Epidemic Sound. Are your music still from Epidemic, are they commissioned, or did you switch to another library?
It has to be because the iPhone was the first to adopt USB-C charging.
Is this satire or serious ?

@@Randomdude21-eso - everything ELSE uses USB c. The only reason you only have lightning cables is because you only bought apple products. YOU painted YOURSELF into that corner. Don't blame an outside force for your own lack of wisdom.
I've ditched the "ecosystem" a year ago and....nothing happened. It's more about understanding what you really need to use rather what you are being offered to use.
Just because iPhones dominate the market, does not mean that people are in on the Apple ecosystem. How many of those iPhones are getting Spotify installed over Apple Music, Google Photos over the photo app, and Dropbox over iCloud?
Besides maybe the uk, most in europe don´t care about apple ecosystem in my country we use google services, spotify, netflix, have android set up boxes, use mostly windows instead of mac os,most don´thave tablets but the ones that have them they are android ect
I switched from my iPhone 4 to Samsung and had the Galaxy 5, 7, and 10e. I loved getting new features first and customizing endlessly, sideloading, etc. But, the slow progress of Android/Windows connectivity and unpolished features and feel got to me. During the Apple Silicon transition it became clear that Apple was finally considering user feedback in their designs (more ports on MacBooks, customizable lock screen, interactive widgets) it became no contest. They were implementing everything I liked about Android but with way more refinement. I sold my Galaxy, decommissioned my Windows laptop, and picked up a MacBook and an iPhone. I have not regretted it an ounce, it really is a killer combo.
Main reason FPT doesn't mention is most girls are on iPhones.
Android won the war a long time ago, pocket mode alone is a reason to never even consider Iphone.
I been in the android ecosystem since 2017 I am Pixel guy since 2XL and I switch phones every year currently on Pixel 8 Pro

@@FrontPageTech Hi... Big fan here from INDIA. I can say one thing for sure why the IPHONE sales are up in INDIA. Iphone 13 and 14 are the hot selling phones here. Just because of the fact that they are available at $550. Sometimes even lower. This was not the case before. Because we can't get an iPhone for less than $700 or $600 before. And the ecosystem thing you are bringing. I don't think that's a factor here. You won't see a single person here who will buy a iPhone for iMessage and apple watch. Pretty sure most people here who buys iphone don't know that iMessage can be used in such ways
I’m from South Africa, our iPhones cost a lot more than in the USA, but slowly but surely everyone I know is starting to buy iPhones.
It used to be maybe 1 guy in a friend group had an iPhone, but now the 1 guy in a friend group has an android and everyone else has an iPhone.
I really hope Jern does more tech reviews, his style is truly unique to ANYONE on the internet doing tech reviews. Everyone follows the formula MKBHD does, it’s refreshing to see something new and unique
Yeah Fr
I was an iPhone user for over 10 years. Just this last year I switched. Samsung Z Flip 5! I got tired of the boring iPhone. Yes they are great. But man are they stale. It just hit me that I had been buying the latest top tier iPhone for the past decade and hadn't noticed much change in the last several years. It was just a phone and just a camera. I was no longer excited about it. I missed that excitement. So I found it elsewhere. Thanks Samsung and One Plus and Google for keeping the excitement in the smartphone market!!
I'm still using my iPhone 11 Pro Max and I really don't see any reason to upgrade at the moment. The phone market today for me has stalled and I really don't see any real progress happening.
True ... No real progress happening
I think we have reached peak smartphone.
If you only consider the iPhone...then yes. You're right. No reason to update.
But if you consider switching to Android there are a lot of reasons to update.
@@stgabyabledo you realise that, that is actually a bad thing?
@@stgabyablehonestly why should anyone switch phone companys. I mean if your happy with your Samsung, google pixel, or iPhone why should you even consider to switch. Stay with what your happy

i tried a new iphone for three weeks like half a year ago.
what ca i say. it does what a phone is supposed to do. i'd choose an iphone camera over an android one everyday, but my next phone will be a galaxy with an s pen.
it's quirky, it's perfect!
Our cameras are better now. video is getting closer than ever before
I honestly don't get why people obsess over the camera in their phone... the cameras are the thing that I use the least!! In fact, I'd sacrifice my phone's cameras for either a second microSD card slot or a physical slide out keyboard.
And then there is me with a MacBook, Windows Pc, iPad and an Android phone.
Apple makes good prisons. They should get into the private prison business.
This!
I think Marques Brownlee switched from an iPhone to a Galaxy S24 Ultra in an instant and it probably doesn't affect his life at all. He seems to enjoy going to the Android OS and he's certainly an Apple advocate for the most part. If you're good with tech, you'll adapt in a short time to a different ecosystem.
My friend switched from iPhone 13 to Pixel 8 Pro and I went from S9 to XS Max...
Your friend will come back to iPhones
@@Hhhh22222-w why? pixel is good
I think alot of android manufacturers mad the mistake of thinking android users wanted iphones so they started making they're version..but what made android so great was that most companies were pushing the status quo we didn't know and were very excited about what was coming next now its just the same boring bore every year.
Apple is for people who are mystified by how toasters work.
Whatever Jon has been cooking up recently is straight fire
It was fun experimenting with different versions of android over the years, but now I just need a phone that's fluid, smooth, reliable, and premium.
Get a Samsung they are at their peak with apple it's either you like freedom and versatility or plan and just easy to use
@@Mob3tta_01 you gotta be specific. by saying "get a samsung", someone would get the entry level samsung.
be specific and say "get a samsung s- series phone" cause thats the true premium samsung phone.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the pinnacle of fluid, smooth, reliable, and premium.
@@ironspider6851depends on the features you need. I always go with the Galaxy A series because I still use a microSD card for bulk storage that I can quickly use anywhere
You have lots of options for non Apple-devices that fit that description. You don't have to throw away your freedom to get it.
I’ve been an android user for years. Two years ago I switched to apple. If LG came back I’d switch is seconds. But since it’s gone forever, I’m staying with apple.
iPhones are just Harley Davidsons of the mobile world. They may create beautiful machines once or twice but they are horribly engineered lately.
BS
This made zero sence…
Could it be? Is Jern stepping away from the Apple leaks and stepping into tech Jernalism? I think we need to coin the term Jernalism at this point. 😂
Sir! Back in 2010 BB was the BEST option for a "power user" and I loved my BB Bold 😭
Not totally true, the iPhone had way faster internet, I had a bb storm cause where i lived Verizon was the only option, but I longed for that iphone... but in 2011 I went in to buy an iPhone for that faster internet and bigger screen and walked out with a Droid x... by far better than my blackberry storm (except typing, typing the the storm was amazing).
As an Army war Veteran I never laughed so hard at “this is our Vietnam!” 😂 Also nice green bubbles shout out to Sam!
If Android disappears (and if will if the usage numbers drop below a certain point), there goes all the arguments “if you want sideloading use Android”.
wouldnt apple also be a monopoly in the mobile market
I miss when Sony, LG, Motorola, HTC, etc. had flagships that battled with Samsung. Those were the true wars in my opinion.
There's still tons of premium/flagship 1000$ mobiles made by a ton of manufacturers. Asus, Oppo, OnePlus, Google, Xiaomi
Also I don't think flagship battles are good since it seemingly leads to crazier prices like the current >1000$ devices we have now.
True... I use to be Samsung Note guy until they started blowing up,. Samsung now finally went back to a flat screen, that curved screen was so irritating that it kept me away. I tried the S24 Ultra, trying to move all of my keychain passwords was a nightmare.
I sent the S24 back lol
But man the customization is just sooooo good.
You should have kept it after you got all your passwords back it took a little time for me some transferred over but once I got back in a single fingerprint scan and wahlaa everything works perfect
Switching to Android would IMPROVE my life. I wanna OWN the phone, not to get enslaved into their restrictive, monopolistic ecosysten (though if macs weren't so terrible at gaming, and i had one then maybe i wouldn;t)
Comparing Top 10 Best-selling Smartphones to Smartphone market share seems a bit off to me
I will literally never get an iPhone because
1. Overpriced
2. Nothing new except slight increases in performance, battery, cameras etc.
3.i hate the UI and never was able to get used to it
4. To some people it's a godamn social status even if they own a iPhone 6 and will straight say "well you've got a Samsung" even tho I've got a Google and they just assume all androids are Samsung's. Like if you judge someone because of what phone they have stfu
Edit:
5. I am stuck in the pixel ecosystem too and don't wanna leave
