Well, that was a bit of shock - working with Faux Yarn! I gave up on the accurate COUNTING of stitches. Instead, where the pattern called for a certain number of stitches around - example Row 3 of the Inner Hat called for 27 stitches - (2 DC in the next st, DC in the next st) 9 times - I took stitch markers and simple divided the "pie" into 9 equal pieces, place a stitch marker at each place, then crocheted the 2DC at each marker, followed by one DC in between. NO COUNTING NECESSARY. I followed the same protocol in all the following rows. I wound up with a round hat but I shudder to think what it looks like without all the FUR covering the out-of-place stitches.
It's a whole new technique using Faux Fur - not for those who absolutely MUST have every stitch in exactly the right place. If that's you, save yourself a mountain of frustration and don't even try.
