My one prayer to content creators is to please start listing names/weights and the amount of yarn needed for the projects, even if it is a rough estimate.
Hi there, I saved this video years ago when I was learning to crochet and I just wanted to say thank you! I hope to keep learning from your expertise for many more years!
This is the quickest pattern of a hat I have ever made!!! I plan on making it into a unicorn by adding ears, mane and a horn! Thank you for this!!! It is amazing and fun pattern!! Thank you Mikey!!!!!
Hi Mikey, I have been crocheting for years and I learned from a friend at the time. I learn better visually seeing the actual item and stitches done as you do and you explain it all very well and clear. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this as it makes a difference for me and I suspect many others to learn the newer stitches that are now out. My favorite is the cable ones because they look so much like knitting ( which I don't know how to do even though my Mom did and tried to teach me). Thank you, Thank you again!!!! devoted new follower!
Thank you!!! so much for your easy instruction and sharing. I wanted this hat in the colors I like but there is nowhere to be found but now I CAN MAKE IT! of my colors! I sincerely appreciate for your simple and easy instructions, plus now I have all the hats w/flaps I need for this coming winter. Thank you and Thank you! Love you video, see you again soon.
Thank you thank you thank you! I’ve been crocheted to you for a very long time! It’s football season coming up and I was looking for a team hat with braids! Yours popped up and now I’m gonna have to check out the rest of your videos when I’m done with these braids!!! Very easy to follow through! 😊😊😊🏈🏈🏈
I just made this one. Seemed too small from the get go, so I started over using an old beanie pattern. Use a tape measure. Make the crown 7". This is a regular adult size crown. I'm going by an old beanie pattern. All the starting rounds are 12dc, no matter which size hat you make. Using a "J" hook and RedHeart Love yarn, I did five rounds with this pattern. Normally I use an "H" hook and do seven rounds. I made the hat 8" long. Obviously, you can do the eight double crochets, in the starting ring, like this tutorial and just keep increasing until you get a 7" crown. You still have to place the flaps though, which the count is thrown off as you increase for larger sizes. But, it's simple basic math. I wanted my seam in the center back of the hat, instead of above an ear. Which meant a little basic math. So, I cut my yarn on the final round, then...., counted off 10 to the left and started a flap. To place the second flap, I went back to my center seam in the back and counted off 20 to the right and started my second one. A side note, once you start the sides, you can rotate DC's with HDC to get the desired length. Which is what I did using two colors of yarn. I also only "chain 4" at the point of the flaps. It's a little tight, but keeps it from sagging when you put the braids on.
It would have been helpful if you had stated how many stitches were required for each round. You did at the beginning but then there was no mention of any stitch counts. I only got up to about 5 and a half mins through. Lovely pattern and a lovely hat but the instructions could have been clearer.
Can you advise on size for a child aged 7-9 please. Would I just miss the last increase round and do less rows down the side. And the flaps won't need to be as big so could I start with 8 hdc instead of 10? Thanks
Asking for sizing and stitch counts is not harassment or negative. That's supposed to be the advantage of online instead of reading a pattern out of a book: we can ask questions.
Row 6 is confusing, do I double crochet every stitch or do I crochet 4 dc then 2 dc in the same st. and continue pattern? I did the pattern but the stitches don't match to what you are saying in the video, the video says you end up the row with the 4 dc sequence??
Thank you so much for showing all of us how to do this. You are awesome at instructing. You have become one of my favorite go-to for crochet. Will be exploring more on your channel. Thanks!! :-)
Reading comments already left, I think you will find this is a child's size hat. Just do another 1-2 increase rows with 5, 6, sts between the increases and make the earflaps wider for a bigger size ??
Thank you so much i lost the video of the beanie i wanted to make and found ur helpful ved. Instead but when i made it was small size for a baby or little kid not adult how could i fix this or do bigger size?
It feels like the stitch count on your written instructions are slightly off. And when you begin round 3 in the video, you don't mention how many stitches there should be when the round is off. Following exactly as you show, for round three, I don't wind up with a single DC--I wind up with 2 DC... I rechecked from the beginning and counted as you. Otherwise great video. Clear view, easy to follow along. Thanks!
I love this hat.... One quick question. .. how do I keep the pom pom from spilting more than I did them.... I made 2 pom poms and put them like pig tailed on the hat... I truly love both of u.... great couple...may the Lord bless both of you...
Yes. I made this hat with a comparable yarn and I am not a tight stitcher. I was thinking mine would only fit a pre teen, but after reading your comment I wonder of its a large toddler size. It certainly doesnt fit me and I dont have a big head. This pattern is not for beginners because the video and pattern do not correlate. You have to know how to fill in the gray areas.
Any Super Bulky (6) weight yarn. Not sure where you live to suggest particular brands as they may not be available near you. So just look for a (6) weight yarn.
I'm checking. I know the pattern was discontinued with Schachenmyr went out of business. I probably should just pull down the tutorial... Let me check. I know I tried getting the pattern through the Wayback Machine and I couldn't locate it. I'll let you know in a few minutes. I will most likely pull down the tutorial.
I am taking down the tutorial. I had taken down the article off the website as the linkage to the free pattern was severed due to the yarn company going out of business. Thanks for the reminder. I am removing this video as an option.
Free pattern has been located once again. Get it at thecrochetcrowd.com/usa-peak-braided-hat/
Mikey, Is there a way to resize this hat for kids? If so would you just make that magic circle as large as you need it and then dot he flaps? Thanks
@@spinningbug you could try. It may be easier to find a free pattern on another website to get the correct size.
@@TheCrochetCrowd Thank you so much!!!! Will do! I just spin, the patterns are another story LOL! Thank you always for your tutorials and learning

We do. It's in the video description for the link. You can have all of that if you wish.

I think this is the correct stitch count
R1:8 R2:16 R3: 24 R4: 32 R5: 40 R6: 48 R7-13: 48
Thank you! His written pattern is so wrong.

I made this pattern but used linked double crochet stitches instead of regular double crochet, it came out so warm and soft ❤
Thanks so much for sharing this hat pattern I’m definitely making this for myself and my granddaughter
You’re welcome 😊

hi I really like this tutorial but I was just wondering what size inch head this will fit?
Obviously this is too small as many people have said.
I also asked him about sizing.
You are an awesome teacher!! Thank you!!!
Awh hell yeah! Now I can be Craig from South Park!
Whoop Shoop OH SHIZ I SEACHED THAT UP
THE EXACT REASON IM HERE OMG
Oh my, I didn't think of that! I actually came here because of Sock Sowachowski lol.
That's the only reason I'm here tho 😂👌
THIS IS THE SAME REASON I SEARCHED THIS UP
Hey I love this hat but I was wondering if there was a way to size it up? The hat as its written is to small for everyone that’s tried it on.
Thank You for this tutorial of this hat.
Thank you! I am making a hat for my brother
Love the hat tutorial. I did more increases to make adult hat. it fits great.
How many increases more you added? And in which row? Thx
hey ruth how many increases for adult did you do for your hat?

@@kritterville2 sounds like you should do a tutorial for us that want the larger size..
@@wandagonzalez3311 , that was 3 years ago. I've moved over to loom knitting. Having more fun with that.
How do I make a 9-12 month haree we ugh this pattern?
Really pleased with your work great job thanks
I followed this an ended up with a toddler size hat??? Could it be because of the yarn size?? I used a 6.0mm hook.
thank you for the peak hat pattern I love it
You're welcome.
Very pretty
Thanks I think for small children's we can crochet smaller braids Happy new year!!
Great teacher!!
Fabulous,just finished this xxxxx

Do you have a pattern for crocheted slippers for adults?
Reading comments already left, I think you will find this is a child's size hat. Just do another 1-2 increase rows with 5, 6, sts between the increases and make the earflaps wider for a bigger size ??
Did the hat but not like yours, and I like how you narrate.
Thank you so much

I LOVE THIS THANK YOU
The button that says ...More only has negative comments it should also have excellent words to mark as well, just my opinion! Thank you Mikey!!!!
Thank you, love it!×
You’re welcome.
Do you go all the way around the hat once your done with the earflaps. So before you start the braid you go around the whole hat with single crochet
Can you post tutorial for adult size please?
Where would you buy Schachenmayr yarn?
very nice! Thank you for teaching.
Is there a written pattern please ?
What size head does it fit?
Thank you😍
I love your tutorials! Could you please make a child's football helmet style? Thanks☺️

Are you counting the changing of 2 as a hdc?
Hi, for how old is the hat. it came out so small. I wanted to crochet a hat for 10 yd.
+Lillit Doodai mine came out so big that i had to do another, smaller... maybe you used different (smaller) hook?
it is small and I can't seem to find one for an 8 year old. any ideas?
Yes. I made this hat with a comparable yarn and I am not a tight stitcher. I was thinking mine would only fit a pre teen, but after reading your comment I wonder of its a large toddler size. How would you attach a pom pom to a braid like that one?
Love this hat! What kind of yarn is the pink & green hat made out of? I would love to make one in those colors. Great tutorial!
Yes you are very good
What other yarn could be used for this hat.
What about sizing?
Hats are Always too small for me.
What size hat is this
we wont get 6mm hook so any other option for dat plssss reply
Thank you! :D
I'm pretty sure the top of the hat is missing some stitches. I don't know why it would be so pointy otherwise.
Jennasie Hart it's pointy with me too I don't know why.
Its called a peak hat. The pointy part is the peak. Once you attach the pom pom its not that pointy.
I tried making this hat using worsted weight yarn size 4 and it came out too small. Did this only work for chunky yarn?
For the sizing yes... the yarn is a chunky weight yarn and the stitch work matches it.
Thank you for responding.
is this for a kid ? it looks small
oh crap it does say at the end for kids dang wish that would have been specified
Whats a good alternative yarn?
Any Super Bulky (6) weight yarn. Not sure where you live to suggest particular brands as they may not be available near you. So just look for a (6) weight yarn.
6mm hook for a super bulky yarn?? Mine says to use 9mm hook. Is this an adult size hat?
You explain it well. However, I was hoping it would fit my 7yr old. It fits my 2yr old instead. It's still nice though.

EXCELENTE
Toddler and child size please
Love this pattern do me a favor pls when you fasten off dont leave so much out
I don’t understand.
What do you mean by leaving so much out.
The pattern indicates that Round 2 should have 18 stitches, not 16. I believe it must be an error in the pattern.
The written pattern is not even the hat you do in the video. Where is a written pattern for the actual hat in the video?
I'm checking. I know the pattern was discontinued with Schachenmyr went out of business. I probably should just pull down the tutorial... Let me check.
