      @@CIRCLEOFTONE I always have a problem when it comes to these kinda movies. For example the movie The Haunting of Sharon Tate. Why the fuck you wanna televise such a thing? First of all Polanski is still alive. I don't know if he agrees or doesn't but it's a terrible, horrific tragedy surrounding one person and her unborn baby being murdered in such disgusting way. There are police photos of Sharon's body from the autopsy and from the crime scene circling around the internet for years now. And also couple of different shamefull movie projects on the same subject. I mean isn't that too much already? Aside to that, if Varg and others told them not to do it, then how the fuck do you get the legal right to televise someone's piece of life especially now that he served his time for it. But worse of all these actors, how can you interpret somebody based mostly on what you read in script or on the internet, again if the living and breathing person don't approve. I hope they get sued and I hope Varg and others get a great financial satisfaction for it. I don't agree with half of the things he says on his channel, but on this I support him all the way.

      Why? Black metal is mainstream. What other modern metal genre has more bands playing that style? It's so popular that a movie makes sense especially after the fake docs painting the scene as kvlt, kold and Grimm (when in reality it was kids wearing clown makeup wearing fake swords and posing in the forest).

It's in vogue compared to other types of metal. I think that's the saddest thing about the scene. It was rage and intensity. Now it's larping/hipster and it's ruined the underground. You can't fucking move for blackened this and frozenn lakke stygian blah blah.
      The so called underground is now bigger than mainstream metal. It's a mess and it's all down to copycats and the lifetime network style black metal documentaries which painted a romantic ideal.

Yes there are ripoff bands just like there always has but there are also bands that are taking metal in new directions and have crafted their own unique styles. The only people that say rock and metal is dead compared to back then are people that have been taking too much nostalgia Viagra and don't give new bands a chance because they like to tell themselves comfortable lies that "it wuz better back in muh day". Varg is more about being a pro pagan, pro European, than a nationalist. He moved to France because he married a French woman, France is in Europe. He criticizes Norway regularly, hardly what a nationalist does. Calling him a racist is kind of silly, if he’s a racist so be it, then every human on earth is a racist. Varg has stated many times on his channel that he is against the modern political narrative of the left/right. He is also pointing the finger at the establishment and the political movements that gets infiltrated by lobbyists in favour of those in position (you know the bankingsystem, deep state in general, etc). He has many interesting views that is refreshing in this time of controlled media and thought police, agreeing with him or not.
    I'm from Norway and the mainstream media portrayed him like the "devil" himself in many years after and used sensationalistic stories sometimes by inrelevant people to sell their newspapers. When ordinary people until this day hear Varg Vikernes' name here in Norway they shiver, not only by the "gruesome murder", but by the "satanic" surroundings. It's how media and church works.
    There are only two people that knows exactly what happened that day. Considering the circumstanses before the killing, it seems like a tragedy was inevitable sooner or later.

    I was rather disappointed. You're spot-on: the narrative was tweaked for normies. I thought the acting was rather poor too but I can forgive that because none of them are exactly known for their theatrical abilities. I think the writers / producers took some liberties - not just due to the lack of information or conflicting accounts but also because, like you stated, the final product had to be "Americanized" for commercial purposes. I can agree on the stabbings and Dead's suicide. They were done well but we know very little of their mindsets from the movie. "Dead was depressed." Yeah, no shit. "Faust had a problem with a gay dude making advances - that's probably why he stabbed him." Really? I'm sure there was more to it. Was it perhaps just an act to "outdo" the other edgelords of chaos? ;-) "Varg barbecued churches because 'muh Paganism'." Not buying it - arsonists are usually motivated by many factors. Some even sexual in nature. In certain respects, there was so much more room for "exploration" and development on these ends. I think the movie could've gone deeper and after all the hype, I guess I expected a broader / richer story.

    The thing that I personally was most afraid of (and probably not the only fan from that era with that sentiment) was, that it might destroy some "precious" illusions of the time, place, people and the "lore" itself. But glad to say: it didn't and the director managed to capture "the air of the time" rather well and produced something that somehow reminded me of a BM-version of "Dazed and Confused". As to the "problem child" Varg. I watch his videos occasionally. Some of his theories and thoughts are plausible, others are outlandish at best, or just plain insane.Of course he is a gifted storyteller, still charismatic but still enjoys nothing so much as the sound of his own voice. Which should remind us: prisons are not wells of knowledge and wisdom, and though many cons leave reformed, they rarely leave the joint more honest than when they entered it. A fine example would be that half a dozen (and counting) videos he uploaded on the topic of LOC, which all seem to have the same points: he really "doesn't care" about the film, hasn't seen it, and has no intention to see it, because it's crap. Trying to point out to him, that he gave up every chance of influencing the movie or story, at the very moment he refused to speak to the crew, will generally get you banned instantly (indeed, apart from the obvious SJW channels, he may well be the most easily triggered and block-happy content producer I have ever seen - usually not the character associated with somebody sure of himself). What is also interesting is the cesspool of his fanboi-base, which seems to consist of 70 percent South American and Eastern European kids, larping as super-aryans (and who naturally swallow each "Varg-widsom" like gospel wrapped in cotton candy).

      I agree with everything you said regarding majority of his followers here. But comparing to some of the political parties that are rising up in EU now Varg is just a hippie who reads fairytales. It's really reactionary state of mind to ongoing migrations. You have people like never before coming not only from war zones as refugees but also from the contries that are not even close by. And in large numbers. Countries in Europe don't have the means to integrate these people. The other day I heard Finland is paying 5000 eur to any migrant who wants to go back to his country. But just imagine you come from Syria, you barely speak english and you end up in Hungary, or Finland. It's easy when it's somebody from Poland or even Slovakia to move to Norway or Denmark, or somebody from Croatia to Germany or Serbia to Austria, Romania to Italy or Spain, cause it's almost a natural migrating process that was going on for years and slow, established small communities and lots of prospect for micro enterprises. But now you have large numbers pouring in with people that never had a natural impact on Europe, and I'm afraid more and more countries will choose their own little "Brexits". To this day Turkish community in lots of Eu countries are unfortunatelly treated as an outsider. Let alone someone from their neighborhood. So you don't have to share Varg's views to come to very logic conclusion that is not going to end up well. Wouldn't it be logical to at least split the numbers and imigrate these refugees to USA. First and foremost it's a vast country with a great economy and secondly it's nation of migrants. Sorry I had to talk politics but I really think people cling to his ideas because they cannot wrap their heads around with what is going on in Europe today.

    You make a really great point about the visual deception employed in the film and how it's a sort of tribute to the band photos used on old album sleeves. Just like those old band photos on the album sleeves, less is more when it comes to how much detail you want to show for creating a darker, more ominous aesthetic. It was a technique mastered by the guys in Darkthrone, whose album covers would have certainly appeared silly if not for the effects and distortion applied to them.

      Yep. A lot of black metal bots are complaining the movie has cringe. As if those Polaroids never existed? There was a lot of cringe but they blank it out and focus on the romantic ideal. I don’t feel like it added anything of substance to the story. They also did a terrible job of introducing Faust in the story considering that the murder in Lillehammer is featured in the story. Someone with no understanding of the story wouldn’t have known who he was. We just saw him hanging around Helvete up to that point. They didn’t even introduce him in the story. The characterization is just terrible and not true to the material. I particularly dislike how Dead was portrayed (mentally insane all his life and only happy when inhaling the scent of death, lol. He went downhill after he came to Norway and became very mentally ill due to being bullied and isolated), but of course, making Euro the antihero is just... And Varg a shy kid? He was well read even back then, more so than Euro ever was, and knew how to make bombs and get a hold of illegal firearms, which isn't easy to do in Norway (my country). Today we would've branded him a terrorist. No, I hope the nordic countries will at some point make a movie about this that stays true to the people involved and their story, hopefully the Swedes because here in Norway we can't think a single independent thought anymore and copy American movies that were never that great in the first place. Also, with all the movies about school shooters, terrorists, serial killers etc. that are out there, I can't see why burning a few churches on screen is so terrible. They should have stayed true to the ideology behind it rather than just say "Christian niceness dictatorship" or whatever. It makes this a comedy for people who know a thing or two about BM... Nice video btw :)) I like what you say about the underground. I dated a guy who was copying the scene the way it was back in the 90s. Varg's mom says, in general, he tends to have a different view of how things happened. She also said she overheard Euronymous say he could pay his bills just with the money coming in from the Burzum albums. You know that had to piss off Varg. Blackthorn didn't tell Varg that he heard Euronymous say he was going to kill Varg. That was put into the movie to just wrap up the storyline easily. Blackthorn was actually in the stairwell during the whole thing, but not in the apartment. Fully disagree. Black Metal was never supposed to be a musical genre. Being "Black Metal" was supposed to mean, being 100% original in whatever style of music you made. Clones of previous bands were pointless. Varg was slandered terribly in this movie. Varg was never a fat, shy racist, and was certainly not influenced by Euronymous. Varg was a fairly quiet, polite and well mannered young man who was interested in Role Playing Games. His influences were Techno/Rave music, classical music, and a VERY limited selection of heavy metal/rock music. He was totally against the "sex drugs and rock n roll" lifestyle. He was anti everything, in terms of music. He largely wanted to be anonymous. He had a 1 man musical project (not even a band). He created his own stage name. His music was ENTIRELY created by himself in every detail. He placed his trust in a like minded man (Euronymous) early on in his musical career to his error. His albums had errors in the song titles and lyrics due to Euronymous, and the money was literally stolen and used to fund Mayhem. While there is NO shred of proof Varg ever burned any churches (Please read the official court documents) he did use the imagery for his album art work and openly admitted he either supported the actions of the arsonists or simply did not care. He was young, and exceptionally proud. He could have said and done a lot of things to have his prison term greatly reduced but he never compromised in his opinions. As for the murder, if you believe Varg, he did it as an act of self preservation (Euronymous had openly discussed plans to kidnap, torture and murder Varg with his close friends and they TESTIFIED in court that they had informed Varg of these plans). If you do not believe Varg, then he literally drove to Euronymous to intentionally murder him. Personally I believe the former, as Varg had already surpassed the so called "Inventor" of Black Metal musically. He had made plans to leave Deathlike Silence Productions and created his own label, Cymophane Records and had made a deal with another label to distribute Burzum (Which they did until his arrest for murder). He had no logical reason to murder the man. Finally as a very politically minded man, Varg has been accused of everything from satanism to nazism. Ironically these are both unfair judgements. And while some of Varg's views are unpopular, it his human rights to have them and fully express them (Freedom should be ABSOLUTE), it is upto us the viewer/listener/reader to agree or disagree. If you disagree, express your opionions as he does, or ignore him and anything associated with him.

Necrobutcher has verified that Euronymous had threatened to kill varg and even the investigators of Euronymous murder found evidence that Euronymous made plans to murder Varg. You are just repeating lies told by the mainstream poseur metal press created for fake metal fans like you without actually looking at the evidence found in the investigation or what the actual people involved in the Black Metal scene say. Also Varg was never fat at any point while he was involved with the metal music scene of Norway. You are taking the accounts of Lords of Chaos at face value now. What motivation would Varg have to murder Euronymous? Also according to Varg he only stabbed Euronymous 5 times and the rest was from glass he had fallen on and even if he did stab Euro that many times it doesn't mean anything as he was fighting for his life and had the adrenaline rush in his veins so he made sure that Euronymous would not get another chance to kill him.

      CIRCLE OF TONE I am talking about the people that made this film and you. The people who made this film knew that the Lords of Chaos book was factually incorrect (Jonas said this himself) yet they decided anyway to base this film off of that book of lies which shows how little they care about the lore and the facts about what happened in Mayhem and were solely concerned with making money off of this disgrace. You are giving these people WAY TOO MUCH credit and are excusing them for their slander. Furthermore you criticize black metal for its supposed copycat bands when Black Metal right now is actually becoming more boundary pushing and their are plenty of bands innovating the genre. More bands in Black Metal are starting to be more controversial in this politically correct era by making lyrics about Aryan Supremacy and Nationalist pride thus making the genre the last bastion that truly supports free speech, non conformity, authenticity, having no boundaries and no ties to morality. Yes there are Darkthrone clones but there will always be bands that will push the boundaries.

      Think about it. Teenagers posing with fake swords in the forest, wearing makeup and making anguished faces while taking pics is cringe.
      It's like the Goths on Portlandia. The real truth is somewhere between the docs, Vargs blog and the movie. That's why I hope black metal jumps the shark. It's turned the underground into bedroom core with kvlt graphics. It's more romanticized that goth, post punk etc.
      What boundaries are being pushed? You are not allowed to shred, have regular production, have an image etc etc without being SHREDDED by Tru neckbeards. How many kold vintner lakez can you sing about without going insane?

    • @iamdeath4193
      @iamdeath4193 5 лет назад

      CIRCLE OF TONE I am not concerned that much about the cringe as I am more bothered with the gigantic myths in the film such as Euronymous having a girlfriend, him shaving his head before he was killed and the misportrayel of Euronymous as some good guy that was just misguided. The truth is (and this is based on the accounts of many in the scene) is that Euronymous was a shitty person that had his ego get the best of him, threatened to kill people, took pictures of his dead friend, and would try and police the whole black metal scene with his narrow minded mentality of what black Metal was supposed to be to try and out do others and held the scene back as a consequence. Euronymous planned to torture and kill Varg and that was the reason why he died and nobody in the scene was remotely surprised or mourned his death as they knew who he was. This film is a glorified generic drama film that does its best to be inaccurate.
      As far as the state of Black Metal is concerned and the boundaries that are being pushed there are bands that have regular production and guitar solos. It's not a matter of not being allowed to have regular production, guitar solos, or a distinct image outside of the traditional corpse paint and bullet belt image that has defined black metal. Its more about not fixing what isn't broken and creating black metal that does its job at creating a dark and grim atmosphere rather than trying to be different for the sake of being different. One of The reasons why the progenitors of the genre used lo fi production was because it complemented the music they were creating and added to the grim atmosphere. Regular production only works if it's done in the correct way which very few bands get right with the exception of a couple such as Dissection. Guitar solo's are still used however they are not so dominated within the music as solo's are more meant for displaying technical ability and used for metal that is more rhythm and riff oriented with technicality such as Death Metal however Black Metal is more centered around creating a grim and dark feeling than displaying technical ability and talent. Nonetheless you can still push the boundaries of Black Metal while retaining lo fi production and lack of guitar solo's. Drowning The Light has released some very interesting work and Peste Noir incorporated orchestral music and various different genres in their album L'Ordure à l'état pur. Then you have bands that play black metal in its pure style while having a sound of their own such as Inquisition and Satanic Warmaster. Also as I have said before it is also pushing the boundaries lyrically with themes like nationalism and supremacy in mind and in this politically correct era we live in making it a genre where you can do whatever the fuck you want and about rebellion.

    • @iamdeath4193

    I am old enough to have read about the black metal scenes in Kerrang! and the like. I have to admit in the decades that have followed, there appears to be almost 20 versions to almost every single event or story that have come about. Ultimately this was a bunch of kids that tried to sell themselves on grim and nekro and went too far in a competitive state. I think the biggest problem I have with LOC is that most people like me would have appreciated a full, detailed and as truthful as you could possibly make account of what happened. I thought that was the point in the movie. While I won't defend anyone, Varg is portrayed as a complete frustrated wimp which doesn't quite make sense. The first arrest, if he was that stupid and easily led, wouldn't the police have gathered some incriminating evidence on him? Even subtleties like the chocolate milk; it's widely spoken that while hanging out in Helvete they drank chocolate milk. How or why it appeared in the final scenes of Euronymous' demise seems like taking one factoid and presenting it to over-dramatise the murder scene. Ultimately it's not the totally true accounting of things evidently and there seems to be more besides. The big thing about Varg killing Euronymous for me is that he apparently knew that Euronymous planned to kill him. If someone was openly threatening you in this way, would you turn up at his flat at night on your own? Especially driving all the way from Bergen to Oslo? Nah doesn't add up! As for Euronymous having a girlfriend or being homosexual, I don't really care what the answer is myself. It doesn't wholly appear relevant to the events myself and if it is relevant, I don't think LOC is giving a truthful account anyway, more adding the love interest angle for the box office.

      That said, the Dead suicide scene... damn, that was a hard watch. That's the one part I thought the movie did very well. Of course nobody can know how exactly it played out for sure, but that was striking. Excellent piece of acting.

  • @hmpz36911
    @hmpz36911 5 лет назад +1

    Whether Per/Pelle/Dead actually committed suicide is still up for debate. Euronymous and Dead could not stand each other for weeks prior to the day Dead died. There is evidence that euronymous pressured Dead into killing himself and psyched him up real bad before leaving him alone hoping to return and find him dead. Euronymous was jealous of Dead and in fact took over vocal duties after the incident. He also really wanted the publicity. Which he pathetically exploited to no end. So it goes, Euronymous returned several hours later and found Dead still alive. He had cut himself and possibly wrote a suicide note, or partly, but changed his mind. As many cutters will tell you, something often holds one back from cutting too deep. It's often not to kill oneself but to release pain and feel something else other then the darkness. This is often the case of what Dead had done. In fact his deepest wounds were actually inflicted by Euronymous at previous times. So then many say Euronymous psyched Dead into finishing the job with the shotgun and many others say that Euronymous finished Dead off himself. Euronymous was there back and forth rearranging things, taking photos and gathering pieces of the skull. I think it was a couple days before the death was actually reported bye someone else that Euronymous had told. Euronymous slipped up and said things even and later would recant statments. Saying he was joking, or as if they were "what ifs". There was no investigation and as later fact and evidence came to light it was all dismissed because the scene had been to disturbed and too much time had passed in order to truly prove anyting. The police didn't really care. Especially with all the controversy behind the band. And the fact was that the poor depressed kid Pelle from Sweden was dead and nothing could change it. No one could properly mourn and focus on the truth as Euronymous flooded the media with disturbing photos that constantly changed and crazy stories about eating brains etc. Many try to just chalk Euronymous up as a publicity-hungry narcissist. But I think he's truly was a sociopath. He was constantly plotting she hurt people and even kill them. As was in Euronymouss last days that he said he was going to kidnap Kris (Count Grishnackh/Varg). Euronymous said he wanted to shoot a video of the torture and murder Varg. Varg was very paranoid for weeks. Euronymous lured Varg to his shop where he also lived. Euronymous told Varg it was to settle up on a contract or something which Varg was suspicious about. In the long drive there Varg worried. So when he went in and Euronymous attacked him with a knife (which is said to be the same one Dead used to cut himself his last day) Varg fought with Euronymous and Euronymous got stabbed a few times in self-defense and then they fell through the front window. All of the so-called wounds to Euronymous has back was from the window. Over 30 (if going by the common 37 claimed since that # often changes) of the so-called knife wounds we're in fact from glass and do not match up with the knife. The knife wounds in fact prove there was a struggle because of the trajectory in the neck and head. Varg also had wounds to prove it was self-defense but again the police focused more on the reputation of the band and especially the outrage from the church burnings that they were taking a lot of credit for. Police jumped on the opportunity to lock someone up and appease the public some. Most of band members enjoy the sensationalism and play into negativity as much as they can to play into the cover of their reputation. Many fans tend to enjoy the stories and ignore the truths. But even so the truths are sicker and sadder than what is commonly told...

    • @CIRCLEOFTONE
      @CIRCLEOFTONE  5 лет назад

      Yep the movie did show Euronymous telling Dead to kill himself if he wanted the pain of his depression to end. He also held guns up to his head etc in the movie. But Varg has also said that Euronymous was all talk and no action so he contradicted himself over the years. I don't believe either rumor to be honest. Dead's nickname was dead for a reason. He was obsessed with it. And Varg drove miles with a knife and the number of stabs is not self defence, that's a frenzy. Varg also wanted to die in battle and this was his chance. I mean dead cut himself on stage etc, that's not normal. But thanks for the info. It's best to get all angles.

    • @hmpz36911
      @hmpz36911 5 лет назад +1

      @@CIRCLEOFTONE I explained the cutting. You say it's not normal but yet it's very common. Among musicians and wrestlers. Depressed people do it all the time. Even Pelles last day his so called own inflicted knife wounds we're not deep enough to kill him. The only ones he ever had to go to the hospital for are the ones that Euryonomous inflicted on him. It took a shotgun blast (to the top of his head,[not xommon position of in the mouth] whike laying down partialy, at an odd angle to kill him) go figure? He died a couple times a child and questioned life. I myself have died three times and understand that well. One more thing we had in common. But he was really enjoying life for once and looking forward to touring coming to the states. Many factors that do not add up. & I never really went off of Vargs stories nor the band members. They made up so much crap and change their stories way too much and wanted publicity. So balanced from others i know/knew, with no other motives. Facts are Euryonomous was planning to torture and kill Varg for a while. Varg was not sure what to believe. He carried something like a wooden bat with him almost everywhere he went for weeks. Keep in mind Varg was only 20, 5 years younger than Euryonomous and aware of much that Euryonomous had done so was just in his paranoia. Yet still quite naive. So, That day, he took some more stuff with him to be on the safe side that he did not take in with him. He did not want to provoke anything in case it all was bs. Varg figured if things went down he could run to the car. But Euryonomous attacked him with a knife and during the struggle Varg turned it onto Euronymous and stabbed him a few times mostly while Euryonomous hands were still on the blade. Then they fell into the window, Euryonomous back first (thus the other MIS counted wounds) Varg had cuts on him as well from the blade and glass. That all was argued in court too. Someone from the court stated that Varg was kept in questioning with nothing to eat or drink for days as they kept pushing their version of the story and would not allow him to get any rest. All so they could make an arrest and get a maximum jail sentence and finally punished one of the so-called church burners. So twisted! Yet another reason Vargs stories are off and cannot be fully trusted. But facts are that all the real evidence favored Varg & justice is not fair!

    Varg is still a hero and idol to many. As is euronymous. But the real black metal spirit remains in norway. The rest of the world just adapted the things that the „inner circle“ did. Aarseth and Vikernes were the founding fathers. Mayhem, Emperor, Burzum, Satyricon, Immortal and so forth. They are les enfants terribles so to speak. But the past remains the past. Today, as of 2019, you couldn’t burn down a church just like that. It would be all over social media. And whoring yourself out to mass media isnt the thing to do when you’re a black metal musician.

    One thing I have to disagree with is the praise of Norway's reform system. When Varg was first arrested and released he said so himself that prison wasn't so bad, and just looking at there system it seems pretty luxurious in comparison to American prisons. If anything this may have influenced his decision to commit murder. Saying that he has a job and family does not make him reformed, he had those things already when he committed his crimes. The guy is 50 years old and still thinks that stabbing someone in the back while they are running away pleading for there life is "self defense", which to me seems like he carries the same mindset to commit a murder again over similar circumstances.

      Relativley reformed. Remember he was stabbing people to death 30 times and fantasizing about dying in battle, while dressing like a Neo Nazi while in prison. You can't expect that to turn into Ned Flanders. He's stayed out of prison was my point. One thing is for sure, Varg has padded the truth trying to paint his actions as more of a heroic endeavor and his fans lap it up.

It was a story that has stuck with me and I read about everything that actually happened during the time Euronymous was alive. I’ve listened to their music and I like it, it’s not bad. But all I hear are complaints about the two actors who play Varg and Euronymous and about them being Jewish, sorry but Rory is a Roman-Catholic just saying. Anyways they did a mamazing job play these two guys, so what if they’re Jewish or whatever, they absolutely killed it. They’re actors, ok, they are a handed a script that’s a little tweaked, they got police records, looked at band photos and had private guitar lessons but they still killed it. They are two good actors and I’m sorry if anybody else doesn’t agree but it’s my opinion. The movie was good and had its moments but to me it’s a really good movie, especially since I never heard of the bands before. Yeah it was about lies, truth and what really happened but it’s still a good movie and like I said it has stuck with me since I saw it and probably will for a long time.

    Honestly, anything made by Hollywood will always be tacky and oversimplified, no matter the subject. I hate to sound like a cliché, but it's true. So many missed opportunities for a more in-depth character study here. But overall it's exactly what I expected it to be. I guess for anyone completely unfamiliar with anyone involved, the music or the time in history it'll come across as a decent film. Everyone else? Not so much, but it's just an opinion.

      Yep. I think directors should bring out an extended cut where they put in lesser known aspect that were cut out to make it less shock value. I think it will sell. I mention that on my review of Motley Crue.

      CIRCLE OF TONE. That's a very good idea and should definitely be applied, when biopics are made. I'll check out that review right now.

    Isn't it odd how movie executives and most regular folks have no problem at all with close-ups of people being stabbed shot or beaten to death, but the image of an inanimate object (like an empty building) being burned makes them wet their pants? Oh yeah, because an empty old building is somehow "sacred," LMAO.
