    WARNING! Consider carefully before resetting your camera as instructed: "clear all camera settings." You may spend hours getting your camera back to your previous setup.

      I perhaps should have set the context for this video more clearly; specifically, this video is made for students at the university where I work, and they hire equipment from the university stores. The kit is used by different people with different agendas so it is important that students take control of the equipment they hire and set it to their own requirements. In the face to face sessions I make a point of stating that if they own their own camera, then resetting the camera is not a necessity every time you pick it up to use, because they will be the sole user. One thing I would like to pick up on is your comment where 'you may spend hours getting your camera back to your previous setup' - I'm not sure what you would be doing for hours but the Nikon D810 is really not that complicated. In addition, by getting used to setting up the camera and using the menu, the user will develop a familiarity with the kit's software/menu system which is something I encourage to students to do, not shy away from. I would be questioning why it would take a student hours to get it back to a previous setup, after all this video is only just over 11 minutes for starters. Nonetheless, I appreciate the comment, and thank you for your feedback! Have a nice day!

      @@iopvideo3137 Thanks for the response. And yes, doing the reset is perfect for your students who will be working with loaners. I agree, the 810 is not complicated but over a long period of time I made a lot of changes to settings and had to do a lot of hunting and pecking to find what I needed and to make matters worse I couldn't remember all the changes I made. I got a refresher which never hurts. Also, I decided it was high time to set up some shooting banks which I might not have done if I hadn't come across your channel. So, thank you for that.

    I never heard anyone praise the D810 video, but after recently replacing mine with a Sony A7R3, mostly for the reported good 4k footage, I look back at my D810 1080p footage with good quality glass like zeiss primes and Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 and I am kinda regretting selling mine to part finance the Sony. Wish I'd just saved a little longer and hung onto the D810, which has very clean footage and is so smooth at higher frame rates esp.

    I have been searching to see if the D810 would be 'enough' of a camera to get into videography, I have one for stills and it's gorgeous, but I've never shot video. If I only want to shoot 1080, is this enough, would a D850 suffice? I prefer DSLR over Mirrorless but maybe it's not capable to get into documentary filmmaking.

      Thanks a lot for your kind comments! The videos on this channel were initially made for the students we teach at our university but I'm super chuffed at reaching and helping a wider audience than was originally intended. We use Premiere Pro at our place but your can do quite a bit with iMovie nowadays. Editing in its simplest form is initially choosing the best clips, trimming them, and sequencing them into an order that either informs, entertains, makes you think, tells a story, etc or is a blend of all or some of the aforementioned elements. GOOD LUCK on your filmmaking journey!

    • @iopvideo3137
      @iopvideo3137  2 года назад +1

      Hi and thank you for your comments. When advising students, as an instructor I recommend they format their SD cards before using the camera to minimise the chance of any corruption and optimise communication between the camera and the media - it is not guaranteed that corruption or some error won't happen, though. Once it is formatted, it should be fine to switch from video to photo mode.

    I want to take a video with gimbals but the image is out of focus, what should I do?

    • @iopvideo3137
      @iopvideo3137  3 года назад +1

      What camera are you using? Depending on what you are filming using a gimbal will influence how you set up your camera. A camera with decent autofocus in video mode is preferable if you have a face in shot. Having the camera in manual focus with deep depth of field (f8 or something) and/or using a wider angle lens can all help to keep the main subject in focus as well as maintaining a consistent distance throughout your planned shot. I would watch a few videos on how to use a gimbal to get these ideas into your head and then practise over and over. Hope this helps.

    Hi bro, how to do back focusing while recording video?

    • @iopvideo3137
      @iopvideo3137  3 года назад

      Do you mean focussing in general because 'back focussing' is often used to describe, "... when the focus plane is further back than you were expecting it to be (so your subject is out of focus, but something behind it is sharp)."

    Hi I was wondering if the video quality is better or worse than a modern day IPhone?

    • @iopvideo3137
      @iopvideo3137  2 года назад

      Video quality is dependent on different variables depending on how you define video quality. From a technical point of view, just thinking about a modern day iPhone, even though it may be able to shoot in 8k, not all pixels are created equally. Sure it may be sharp, but this is often what makes video look too video like and not organic. Add in the fact that phone sensors are smaller than DSLRs and things become even less straightforward. Low light capabilities are also not just about the size of sensor particularly when you start to delve into base or native ISOs...and we haven't even mentioned the quality of any given lens we might be using. Generally, phone lenses struggle to create the shallow depth of field look unless they fake it, i.e. not through fast lenses. And we haven't even discussed the competence of the user...

      @@iopvideo3137 interesting. I use 14-24 2.8 for landscape photography. I never ever use the video feature in my D810 hence why I searched and found your tutorial. I’m filming a short clip showing my boys skills with nunchucks and have softboxs fill fill/key/rim lighting so we’re all good with lighting. The iPhone seems to hunt the subject better in auto focus and it’s just easier to set up. I might try both and compare. Thanks for your time and feedback.

      @afti03 2 года назад +4

      @@MrYou76tube im using my D810 for commercial video productions, but you HAVE to use a good prime lens, otherwise the poor quality of non-prime lenses will start to show. the ACTUAL QUALITY is exactly the same as a 1080p jpeg, so it looks exactly like the pictures. Use da vinci Resolve to stabilize your footage, shoot in 60fps at 1/125 shutter speed and slow down the footage in post. ALWAYS use manual focus! the nikon can't handle auto focus on video. it just can't. what you do is go into photo mode, you get your focus and then switch back to video mode with that focus still there and start shooting. the moment you switch frame or move, you do the same thing again, or pull focus manualy. good luck man!
