Is the Nikon D810 still relevant in 2020? I take you through where I think this camera falls behind in today's world, and also what I still love about this 6 year old camera.

Save yourself 8 minutes 36 seconds by reading this. The D810 is NOT a modern mirrorless camera and you wouldn't buy it to shoot video. You'd buy it (used) because it's an affordable and very capable high detail stills camera - and it works with Nikon F-Mount lenses (which are plentiful and much cheaper than mirrorless lenses on the used market.)
Cotictimmy hi there thanks for commenting. I agree that the D810 is not a mirrorless camera and is a wonderful stills camera, especially for landscapes. I do however find myself shooting more video than ever these days, and with the 810 my main body, I have no other video option. Interesting that Nikon’s own marketing promoted the D810 as a great option for video . Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and thankyou for taking the time sharing yours.
@@ThePhantomPhotographer From what you say about shooting more video, it sounds like you should consider a modern mirrorless with decent video capabilities. TBH I don't shoot video myself so I would not know which to recommend from personal experience. Just off the top of my head, I guess the Z6 is a reasonable option to consider as they are discounted now (and have new firmware) so would be less expensive than the latest Sony/Canon products. I'd probably hire to make sure it did what I wanted before splashing the cash. Best of Luck.

The Phantom Photographer A few times a year Nikon have decent sales, about 15 to 20 percent off. They won’t tell you when unless you’re a member of their professional program but if you keep an eye on the main sellers you will see the sales. I refuse to pay the RRP here in Australia, they’ve now shot the FTZ price up to around $450. Nikon won’t be getting any of my dollars the way they’re pricing stuff.
@@aussie8114 Thanks mate, I might wait until the announcement of the z6s then I reckon the z6 will come down in price, and I might swoop in then. I think the z6s announcement will be made in October, so we'll see!
One of the greatest, mind-boggling dynamic range sensors ever placed in a camera. That's all you need to know and that's why I still have/use mine every day.
Agreed. Still my landscape photography go to , til this day. Great for getting details out of the shadows and bringing back details in the highlights, without resorting to hdr.

You don’t “need” Eye AF. It wasn’t there prior to mirrorless so people that are complaining about it are becoming snobs. This camera was and still is perfectly fine without it and can take exceptional pictures that rival that of the mirrorless systems out there. Nowadays people rely a little too much on tech, features, or gadgets instead of really learning the current features of their camera and maximizing them to their advantage. DSLR’s aren’t mirrorless so comparing them and their tech is kinda crazy since they are two totally different cameras and each deliver something different.

Just because a feature comes out does not mean it is demanded from photographers. This is a stills camera, not a video camera🤷♂️.
I shoot with the d810, and ive noticed that most of the photographers that shoot with mirrorless over process their images with edit software instead of getting everything done on site. they relay to much on tech than skills. I use my d810 for weddings as a second cam while using my film cam as first shooter.
@@BL4CKLABLE10 I agree. That’s awesome you still use your D810. I sold my Z7 and still reach for the D810 or my D500 for photography. Between those two cameras they accomplish everything I need.
I can't part with my D810, still amazing for wildlife photography. If it ever dies it will be a nostalgic paperweight filled with great experiences through my travels...

The d810 is STILL the same awesome camera it has always been! That's one thing you can't do is to take away the awesomeness the camera was when new. It will still do what it did new!
I still use for landscape photography. Still a beast in this area 👍🏻
Photographers have survived without eye detect for years and have managed to carry heavier cameras around during the day. It does what is needed and remains a true workhorse of a camera. I have used it for wedding photography and for landscapes and it excels at those tasks. The need for the latest new gadget never ends and is never satisfied . I am happy with my D810.
Agree that the D810 is still a solid camera today. Still prefer this to my Z6 for landscapes. D810 is also still my second body for weddings as well. Thanks for taking the time to watch. Much appreciated.

Brilliant m8! I think it's an amazing camera still in 2023. 1st off, I wouldn't buy this for video, so many better options even back then. 2nd, it's not heavier then any single digit D (D3//5) of its time until you add the MB-D12. As for AF eye, none of the best sports photographers had this or 30 yrs before then. I myself learned sports on an F4E single point AF so I thought 5 point was an upgrade later. lol. I admit eye detect is awesome but not a deal breaker if you learn technique. I have bad eyes so I totally welcome any assist..
You are A GROWN MAN COMPLAINING ABOUT 2 POUNDS. Really?? It's a Pro level camera.. If it was any lighter, I would forget that it is in my hand.. As far as auto focus in video mode. It's not a Camcorder..
My dual camera setup. D810 and D4s. I drag them both around. The pics are so amazing and I’m so excited to shoot with this combo, weight, what weight !!!!

I put money into two D810 bodies so I’m not getting rid of them in a hurry. The weight is no issue because I’ve got 💪🏼 Nikon never really gave firmware updates to their DSLRs so that’s nothing new. I never do video so that’s not important. Eye AF is not that important if you know how to shoot. There’s been no eye AF for the last hundred years. It’s just too expensive to be upgrading gear so I’ll stick with the D810 until I win lotto.

Not true about firmware:
Just yesterday I found out that my D200 that struggled with battery life(on/of battery sign out of nowhere) actually had a firmware in 2008 that fixes the issue. I had that camera for 8 years (don't shoot a lot, not a professional) and only yesterday came to my mind to check the firmware (facepalm).
Got sick of that problem (and low light ISO and AF, AF even in good light sucks :D) and wanted to get a D700(~400$ here) but saw a "cheap", a bit rough, 170k shutter D810 with a Nikkor 85mm 1.8G for about 1100$ on the local site with used things for about 1100$.
Do you happen to have had the D700, too, any experience with the lens?
shmadmanuts They did do firmware updates but so few that my statement is basically correct. And pretty much only to fix issues, not to provide new features. I don’t have the 85 but my understanding is it’s a very decent lens. Perfectly good for professional portraiture. It does have some chromatic aberration but probably only noticeable wide open, even then most people would not worry about it.

Plus, for video, most pros use manual focus. I still prefer manual focus when it comes to video even on the sony mirrorless. Reduce the aperture opening to f/8 and you get everythin in focus. If you need the blur, then manual focus...
The D810 is not heavy at all and takes glorious images with suberb colour rendition. It has fantastic autofocus. I moved FROM a Z7ii because it felt too light and plasticy, and the blackout and battery life of the mirrorless fell way short of the dslr. Also the mirrorless camera did all the work for me; I have learnt much more about photography with the D810. I'm not a videographer. I have an iPhone for RUclips! ;-)
Thanks for commenting James. I still love my D810 for landscapes and real estate. Interesting comment about DSLR’s and learning more about the craft by using them. Hadn’t thought of it from that perspective.

Not to mention that per video I use video cameras for still photography I use a still photography camera I never use a pliers as a hammer
Love seeing honest reviews. Just ordered one of these myself! Been toying around with the Z50 for a while and wanted to step up into full-frame, but I wasn't willing to shell out for the current prices of the Z6 or Z7. Plus, I honestly miss the feel of DSLRs! Snagged a nice used one from KEH for just around $700 and it should show up in the next few days. Very excited!

I still have a d7100 I bought new in 2014, though half of my work is done using Nikon film cameras from the 1970s to 1990s along with a mix of an RB67 and Fujinon gl690. I am likely to buy a used D810 to go full frame digital later this year because of better performance than a crop sensor in the shadows and at low ISOs, not to mention most of my Nikon lenses are for 35mm or fx sensors.
I would also note it has probably best shutter sound for Nikon DSLR... not important for most but once you witness it, you cannot part with that sound...
you can setup the quit mode for more silence shutter sound through the back knob
That quiet mode on DSLRS is kinda useless, its like delayed shutter, nothing quiet about it. D810 still has the best smooth muffled sound of the Nikon DSLRs@@user-wu1tn5ww1b

I’ve started a RUclips channel ( my wife’s cooking channel) & I’ve videoed it with the Sony A7r4, the eye autofocus is absolutely amazing, so I guess I’ve got the best of both worlds! 😀👍

Hey mate. Great video. I just got a d810 and I notice the blacks are really crushed in video mode, to high contrast. Can this be adjusted?
Hi Nicholas, D810 is not awesome for video, but probably best to go to a Flat Picture profile. In the Shooting Menu, go to Set Picture Control and choose Flat. This will wash out the video colour and contrast, but is best used if you you going to edit in post. If you think this is still to much contrast, go to Manage Picture Control and create your own profile and reduce the contrast again- You can also save this as a preset. Highly recommend you DON'T use full time auto focus if you can on this camera as it will constantly hunt for focus. Do auto focus single, focus on the point you want, then lock it off to manual to eliminate this issue. Hope this helps!

Still use my D810 regularly, 8 years of owning it by now...
Love that sensor - more than that of my fuji's to be honest. Combining my fuji and nikon gear gives me a lot of coverage.
My skills and the lack of time that I invest are more of an issue 🙂

Hi There, It really depends what you would use it for. The AF system on the D810 is getting a bit pong in the tooth and not as good as the D780, although the 3D is still pretty good. As a sports/action camera, i would say no. As a landscape camera, definately. If you plan to shoot any video on on it - no. Would be an OK second body for portraits / weddings, but again lacks that noce autofocus systems and full viewfinder coverage that the new mirrorless cameras have. Hope this helps!

Yes you can. But you won’t make use of the whole sensor. Hope this helps.
Today, D850 vs Z7ii. Who wins?
An inexpensive solid gimbal head that I use with my D810 and Nikon 200-400 f/4 is the Wimberley Sidekick ! (around $250 us)
D810 has better low light ISO than the D850. Not by much but combined with less weight ill take that over a mirrorless or a D850
Is it possible to scale down the 36MP to something lower ( 24MP ), and when scaled down, is better ISO performance in low light like the d750?
Hey there, If you you shoot in jpeg, you get the option of large, medium or small format
You can change image area in the Shooting menu/ Image area : FX (36 x24), 1.2 crop (30x20), DX (24x16), and 5:4 (30x24) - a more of a square-ish crop. I use one the function buttons and shutter wheel to change crop sizes as needed. All these modes will give reduced file sizes. But really if you're not buying the D810 for the 36MP sensor, and large file sizes bug you, get a smaller camera. The D750 is still a killer 24MP FX body with outstanding IQ. But once you get used to the 36MP sensor, it's hard to go back, the D810 is awesome, heavy but awesome, particularly for stills shooters (like me !)

Hi There, If you press and hold down the QUAL button on the top left of the camera and then rotate the rear dial, this will allow you to change the image quality and type. Hope this helps!

Photographers may be videographers. But I still remember how proper video camera look like. It is not dslr alike. Photographer who cannot carry his gear around should maybe do something else. Quality lens is major weight in photographers backpack. No point pushing the blame on the camera. Wtf is going on with this world.
My friend is selling her d810 and 24-70 f2.8 vr for only USD1600 cuz she barely used it and she bought them just for fun... the shutter count is less than 10k... should I take it in 2020?
Hey there, if you are going to use it for general photography work then the D810 is still a good camera. If it is a newer version of the 24-70 2.8 than included this is a bargain. This is a decent lens.
Hello I have a question which battery is best for nikon D810,i have EN EL15 but it runs very quickly,so when i have to shoot weedings or other event,which battery you recommend?
Hi Vanja. The ENEL15 is the original battery. Nikon have upgraded the capacity with newer versions, especially since the Z series cameras were launched. The most recent and higher capacity battery is the ENEL15C. This will fit the D810 battery housing. Or you could just buy another battery and have that ready to go!

I have Nikon D810, this camera is giving me a tough time now as the recording button is not recording. I have been pressing it but no response. All I did is change the lens from 60 mm to 28 mm. Can anyone advise?
Yeah, use Sony for video.
If you want to splash the cash, buy mirrorless. If you want value, buy a used dslr. I’d sooner have a d810 and a d500 than a z6ii. No question. Both dslrs will swipe a mirrorless at wildlife. But then I don’t do video.

What's funny is I weighed my Z7 (with battery and memory card) with FTZ adapter and smallrig L-Bracket and it was 872g. So if you decided to shoot with f-mount lenses on a Z6/7, and weight is a concern, you aren't saving much. I ended up buying a well used D810 from mpb for $529. Such a bargain.

CAN SOMEONE HELP ME. I need help making a decision. My birthday is coming up & Im stuck as to what I should upgrade. I started photography with a Nikon D5300 with a 35mm prime f1.8 in 2019, then in March 2020 got a Nikon D810 & only have a 24-70 F2.8 to go with it. Don’t know if to get myself a MacBook Pro work on a website (only have iPad Pro no laptop) or upgrade body again & switch over to Mirrorless finally, Nikon Z6 maybe use an adapter for my 24-70 F2.8? ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED!!!
If you are primarily using the camera for photography and not videography, then the D810 is still a fantastic camera! If you get a computer, you can then get an editing program like Lightroom to really make your images come alive.

Hi There, it is still a good camera, especially for landscapes. For portraits it is good also, you just will not have eye detect autofocus and edge to edge focus points
What about the ISO? Is it any good?
ISO performance is OK. The the worst but not the best either.
OMG! I get what you're saying. My Nikon FE has really fallen behind the times. It has no sensor, no AF and it takes days or weeks before I even get to see the photos I've taken with it! And don't get me started on it's lack of basic video features. Why did they even bother making it?!

Coming from the film era what I see now is young photographers chasing technology. If you're a talented photographer it really doesn't matter what camera you're using as long as it does what you need it to and have the ability to use it properly. I don't use my D810 for video so can't comment on that aspect of it. It just seems that reliance on technology now is overshadowing ability. The technology is wonderful and is improving all the time, but I hope photographers use it to assist them in their passion and not lose sight of basic photography. When calculators became popular many people lost the ability to do simple math manually. I'd hate to see that happen in photography.
Agree. Technology vs Art (and what is the right blend) is becoming real in Photography.
I love the weight it's one of my favorite features of the D810 because it enables me to hold steadier.

I have a D7100 in a D7200, which are pretty good in shooting sports in continuous mode... are you saying their abilities ---- in focusing continuous with sports has declined, and worse than the two cameras I already have?😳😲😔
I have the D810. I have the Battery pack which allows for extended shooting probably beyond any other camera capability. Heavy? No problem. More stability at slower shutter speeds. My 810 has two batteries - theoretically I could shoot 5000 images without replacing the battery(ies). Video? Not a show stopper. I shoot 1080P for uploads to social media. Auto focus? Shoot in manual focus or as a B camera. Hollywood doesn't rely on auto focus for any of their productions. You are the focus puller. Deal with it. Start working out- wimp. I like solid cameras. Works well with VR lenses.

I love my D810 especially paired with Sigma Art primes for portraits , studio and outdoors. Luckily for me I don't do video ... lol
I have been shooting with the Minolta X-700 camera for almost 5 years and have taken beautiful photographs. This Minolta doesn't get firmware upgrades either, it doesn't even have firmware. And by the way, the camera doesn't have autofocus either. And the most glaring thing, you can't even make videos with it. If you buy a Nikon D810 today, it's because of the good sensor and the comparably low price.

It always amazes me how people moan about AF performance in any camera launched in the last 10 years, people should try shooting sport with a MANUAL FOCUS camera and lens, I did a lot of motor racing photography way back when in my youth, got pretty good at it using a Canon A1 with Canon zooms and prime lenses all MF. You learnt how to pre-focus and trigger the shutter just ahead of the subject arriving at the point of focus, you learnt your trade. You also used film which was pricey to have developed and printed (unless you did your own).
By comparison modern DSLR's and Mirrorless cameras are just fantastic, giving us all the chance to get that perfect picture in whatever genre we choose to shoot in so when I hear someone moan about a modern camera (from 2010 onwards) is rubbish at this or that I just wish that they could have been taking pictures when 3 frames per second using a bolt on motor drive was considered fast, only having one ISO to shoot at for 36 images (maybe more if no other film speed available) was the norm, and having to try and focus accurately in dark locations was a challenge. The improvement in camera technology in recent years is simply astonishing, we have way more features now than we have the ability to remember how to use.
I have a Nikon film (FA), Nikon DSLR (D810) and Nikon Mirrorless (Z7), all get used regularly, all my lenses can be used on the Z7 (via FTZ) everything F mount on the D810 and the MF lenses and D nikkors on the FA. The D810 is a beast of a camera but its the best to use with those bigger zoom or primes as the Z7 doesn't balance well, the Z7 is better with smaller primes, MF lenses via the FTZ and the 'Standard' Z series zooms, then it is a really great little system. I'm not sure that a tiny camera with huge lenses is the way forward, the latest top of the range offerings from Nikon and Canon hint at a bigger heavier body coming back into photographic fashion, and they are needed to help hold these big lenses that seem to be released on a regular basis.
To any stills photographer out there bemoaning the lack of some whiz-bang feature on their computerised marvel, just stop - look at that wonderful piece of tech in your hands and learn how to use it, learn your trade/hobby, that camera you own can make brilliant images but you need to tell it what to do, the camera is just a box of electronics - you're the creative genius.
I agree the D801 is still a fantastic camera. I still use it for landscape photography to this day. Photography is developing into more of a hybrid video / stills combo, and this is where mirrorless excels of DSLR's in general.
They're marketed toward tweens and tiktok weirdos so the camera has to do all the work for them

That really depends on what you are going to use it for. What type of photography or videography are you planning to do?

Then yeah. Big upgrade from the D700. You’ll really notice the extra pixel density with the D810. I still use this body for landscapes today.

because old camera like d750 or d810 if that things get hardware issue its hard to find the replacement,

You’re correct there are no Nikon DSLRs with good video auto focus... good thing the D780 doesn’t have the same sensor as the Z6 and has terrible video auto-focus
Hi Sean, yes, unfortunately all Nikon DSLRS are not built for video, which is really wierd, because the standard autofocus for stills is so good....

Hi Vitor, I disagree here. Many people are looking for hybrid cameras these days. Also if you look at the Nikon marketing for the D810, they actually promoted its video capabilities.

I would like to say that comparing camera technology from 7 years ago is a little unfair. I may be wrong, but the D810 probably had very good video capabilities when you compare it to other DSLRs of its day. True, there are cameras and lenses that do have what it takes to compete with modern ones, hence the high prices that some of them sell for on ebay and the like.

i think if they added this feature in the firmware no one would buy a new cameras. The D810 is a great camera for landscape. Maybe it would kill sales if it had multi talent. Im thinking this might be the new norm in cameras "use specific" one camera for sports another for landscape etc..
Hi Kurt, interesting theory on built in obsolescence for cameras! I think that the software on older DSLR's just doesn't have the horse power to run the algorithms for eye detect etc. Also trying to execute eye detect with only 51 auto focus points might just be a bit to challenging. Just my theory though!!
It’s funny how the D810 seems to get Pidgeon holed as a landscape camera. Not at all true, it can very successfully be used for almost everything, even birds in flight if you’re having a good day.

I agree with your concerns about video but I would prefer you’re stating it as something to consider rather than calling it a disgrace. I almost stopped listening and would have missed some good info.

Its a disgrace considering its not suitable for video unless you plan on doing manual focus. Also, lets not forget that Nikon was trying to push this for having good video features such as Auto ISO. Its very useful for anyone interesting in picking this up in the current landscape of 2020 where most cameras can do video fine.

They are some users who are purely photographers and interesting in solely great photography tools.
Having said that my iPhone 8 plus, takes great video and most importantly it is always with me ;-)

I have the z6 and the autofocus is shit, so I wanted to get an 810d for photography. It's a shame couse Ive spent 5000 dollars in the z6.

Weight and firmware are not important reasons to ignore this camera. The sensor is what counts. I rather have the weight, than a small Sony camera for my bigger hands. As for video, none of them are serious cameras, nor are the Sony cameras. Yes, you can do vids with the Sony's, and they shot some episodes of Two and A Half Men with the Nikon D800, but with different lenses. You want lenses that are color matched, focus gear capability, long focus throw, and hyperfocal scales, clickless apertures, and footage markings.....you get this with Zeiss Milvus, Otus, Irex, CP3 lenses by Zeiss, etc...lots of other brands designed for videography and cinema. You can shoot a movie with a 1960's 8mm camera, but there is a better way today. It is about the right lenses...while the body is more then enough. A 4k tv is only 8mp, our cameras are doing 45mp.....the body is more than enough......it is all about the lens build, built for videography. This is why they say you buy a lens system once to last a lifetime, but we will buy many bodies. Adapters are used, also interchangeable lens mounts in some lenses......they will have 5 different brand of cameras, and have to be able to switch the same lens between 5 different bodies. So video capability is not what this D810 is about....it is strictly a great still camera. See 9:55 at

Ok, I a little behind in the terms "Eye AF" is that the same as looking thru the view finder?.. if so , then I'm from the school of looking thru the view finder from 35-40 years ago when there was not big ass screen on the back.. real photographers look thru the view finder, this new age big screen is for who?.not me!!... I just bought this cam on ebay 46 shutter count!!! mint , I have a real video camera for videos.. in my opinion DSLR are for still images.. that's just my opinion..I have an arsenal of DSLR some can do video and I have never not once use that feature.. Not my style..
Interesting. I was strongly considering buying a D810 because I can get one for a good price, and even though I rarely would use it for video it would be nice to have a camera capable of decent video if needed. I guess I'll need to look at the D780 or D850 which will cost quite a bit more.
The d810 is still my go to camera for landscape photography to this day. I have a z6 for video. Mirrorless is so much better for video. Thanks for watching 🙂
@@ThePhantomPhotographer - Thanks for the feedback. Typically I use my iPhone 13 Pro for video. I don't have budget for two complete camera systems since I don't shoot anything for income (wish I did though). But since Nikon has finally figured out the autofocus on the newest cameras I'd like to be able to use m DSLR lenses for better focal length options. Then again, the price difference between a good used D810 and a D780 or D850 might be enough to pick up a used mirrorless with a couple of lenses.
A heavy camera means a very solidly built camera, which means you're getting your money's worth in that regard.
Weight is seriously no consideration for a professional model.
Does nobody understand inertia any more? A high mass camera is much more stable than a low mass one. I love my D810 and just got back from a 13 day cruise around the med … with fantastic photographs. Year now is 2023.
D800 is still a pro camera in 2022. It looks like a pro camera you look like a pro. Holding a mirrorless makes you look like a tourist if holding a D800 is heavy for you i suggest you bulk up as its not heavy. Todays photographers are such babies and most of the time dont know what they want not utilising 20% of the cameras functions yet yearning for more features, I had my F5 for 20 years no firmware updates since it left factory. It worked like a camera should. DSLR is a camera and not a video camera. If i want to shot video i will use a video camera. NO CLIENT WILL KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PHOTO TAKEN WITH A D800 OR MIRRORLESS. Any FX camera built from 2010 upwards is still viable to use professionally today. I can prove it, just look at high quality images from 2010 and tell me you can see its from that era and see how bad the quality of the image.
Are you actually suggesting you pick a DSLR over a mirrorless just because of the way it looks to other people? Wow, now that’s a new one.
It's sad and frustrating, but always the same: internet, marketing and youtubers too always tend to push and exaggerate all the "incredibile" news offered by newer systems and camera. I mean....it's sure obvious the a newer, more modern, lighter, faster, bla bla bla system is"better".
But: who can say to use 100% all the capabilities of a beast like D810 (I own one...) ? Who can afford the monstruous prices of mirrorless? Are we sure that lighter is always better in terms of durability? Not all the photographers use all these attentions towards camera, so, maybe sturdier is better sometimes.
All in all: I think that all these "DSLR are dead" is 50% true and 50% marketing. Keep your camera, use it, get to know all the secret, because it's almost 5-7 years that cameras have reached a peak wich is enought for many years (only photo I mean, not video...buy a professional video camera, if you need one).

You do realise that some of us photographers just want to take photos only? The D810 ias a high megapixel studio & landscape camera. If I want to take video I'd just use my GH4. I rather stick to Nikon with its awesome colour rendering compared to a Sony. It depends what one wants to use this camera for. If I were to get this camera I'd be putting my Nikkor AI or AIS MF lenses on it! ;)
Yep. I do realise. Just there is a huge growth in demand for hybrid cameras in the current era. I still use the D810 as my primary for landscapes. Still one of the best around for this.
Matching this sensor today will cost you over 2 grand. Hybrid is crap. Stupid kids thinking there cinematographers because they video their friends doing tiktok challenges 🤡 This is why hybrid cameras exist. Stupid. Also, you'll get around 150 shots before the battery dies on a morrorless equivalent.
Just purchased a second hand D810, finally rid of my Z5 and now it's me & my D810 & D700. The Z5 was an interesting experience and experiment but at my age I can't commit to a new lens system. The F Mount will do me fine...
You cant really complain about weight and then praise the build quality !! Its not that heavy !!!
What a crybaby when I started taking pictures I was using a Pentax spotmatic is the photographer for my college newspaper I love my D810 and my d700 I wouldn't trade either one based on I auto Focus alone and if you think this is a heavy camera try lugging around a bronica etrsi or any 4 by 5 I am 70 years old and this is not a heavy camera to me
Hi Michael, thanks for commenting. I agree that the D810 is still a good camera. I am merely stating that the mirrrorless cameras today have an advantage in weight saving. Also, some may not be able to afford 1 camera for video and another for stills, so a multi purpose body is the preferred option for many, like myself.

I have an ancient D200 and want to go FX, but not for much. D700 is about 400$ and there is one D810 for double that.

@@shmadmanuts D700 and D800 are two of the most incredible cameras ever made.If you are not interested in video, Both are cameras for life.I doubt anyone would need anything more.
Worldwide competitions have been won with just these cameras.
Amen to that, I'm 69 years old and still able to hand hold my D810 with the grip and 200-400/4 VR lens attached. Sounds to me like you need to consider a gym membership.

Autofocus for Video: Why are you even using auto in video?
Weight: Are you physically that puny?
No Eye Focus: Then focus on the face using single point which gets eyes in focus VERY sharp to boot.
Needless to say it's not the camera, it's the user. Do you really need an almost $5k A7RV to take pictures that will look literally no different than taking it with this camera? I purposely traded my Sony A7rii for this 36mp Nikon D810 on purpose. Yes I traded my mirrorless full frame for a full frame with a mirror simply because the results from a DSLR does much much better than a mirrorless and dynamic range is VERY detailed. Not to mention the lenses are ultra sharp and VERY affordable at the same time depending what you get. The D810/D850 will outshoot todays mirrorless fluff cameras, yes i said it.(Come on mirrorless gearheads, lets here your excuses about noise and yada yada) lol.

Noone needs eye detect AF, l keep mine on one single AF point in the centre... because I am the photographer... I make all the decisions that make the photographs. Otherwise you are just some untrained assistant pushing the shutter button for the camera, something that many "photographers" are these days. Its not heavy either, my D810 climbs mountains with me

Z6 was approximately the same price as a d810 at time of purchase. That’s a VERY broad brush to paint all mirrorless as cheaply made for tweens and tiktokers. Why is Nikon repeatly selling out of the $10k mirrorless Z9? Well, that’s Because professional photographers are buying it. It’s a fantastic, well made, professional camera.
