    Worth watching just to hear you rip on photographers complaining about the weight, two thumbs up! I bought mine three years ago whilst choosing between the D3S and the D810. The best part is I was able to use the glass from my Nikon F5. I always stay a couple generations behind in technology so the D810 will likely be my last camera with no plans to go mirror-less.

      Thanks for watching and your great comments. I like to feel I’ve got a camera in my hands and you get that from a DSLR. Mirrorless are great, but you have to add the battery pack to get them to feel like a pro tool....enjoy the D810 📷😊👍🏻

    I have the both bodies, the D3s improves substantially when you set the profile to vivid with these type of shots. Where the D810 really shines is not so much sooc but in post processing, mainly the dynamic range, the shadow recovery is insane. You better have a powerful computer and a heckload of ram though.

    • @rileyphotos
      @rileyphotos  3 года назад +4

      You're right about the computer, D810 on large files takes some RAM! Interestingly I prefered the D3s on standard colour but my colleague preferred Vivid. You're right about the shadow recovery in the D810 too. surprised me how good it is. Thanks for watching

    First - thank you. I actually prefer these "practical" reviews, over the "technical" ones. I just purchased a D810 a couple weeks ago, and while I've tested it, I can't say I could give a full review on it. I have a lot of Nikon cameras, and I do like what I'm seeing from the D810 no doubt. I don't think I could compare it to my D4 (or D3(s) ) because they serve different purposes. I think the color and contrast from the D810 is much better than most cameras (even D800/e). Personally I don't think it tops the D700 for straight out of the camera clear color pics though; although they are 3x the size. I do concur and support Riley in his assessment that the D810 is a GREAT high end camera for those with moderate to high photography skills. It's much more affordable than the D850, and cranks out great photos when pointed in the right directions. And if you can't get what you want from 36 Mp, then the bump to the D850 simply isn't going to help you.

      I'm thinking of buying a camera Nikon D810 vs Nikon Z50 I'm interested in the quality of the photos, how big is the difference

    • @rileyphotos
      @rileyphotos  3 года назад +1

      I’ve never used a z50 but have reviewed the newer Z6ii. The main difference is size and weight, the Z series being mirrorless are much smaller. They take a z mount lens and there are not so many to choose from, but you can buy an FTZ adapter enabling you to use Nikon F mount lenses. The Z50 isn’t weather sealed like the D810, and having an electronic viewfinder means battery life in the Z50 will be much lower than the D810. I can shoot thousands of frames on a full D820 charge, the Z will give you no more than 400 frames before needling to plug in. The EVF does give you the benefit of seeing the exposure in real time though. Image quality? They will both be good, it’s more a case of them being a different way to use the camera. I have a video on my channel about making the jump from mirrorless to DSLR, here it is ruclips.net/video/TZYgsWurrwE/видео.html . Thank you for watching the channel, good luck with your new Nikon 📷😊

    What a great video ! You gave me the will to make more on my Channel! What a great dynamique you share. Thanks a lot.
    Regarding the D810, I’m thinking of getting one as they are at good level price compared to D850 still expensive on second hand market. I own D3S and D3X and I think the D3X is certainly somewhere between the D3S and D810 in tonality dynamic and details.
    The D3X is to be considered today as they are really cheap. The benefit of the D810 is it’s more modern and faster in AF and burst and it is lighter for the occasion you don’t want to bring this heavy line a hummer D3X!
    It can also be a second camera in shooting cession where the customer needs more than 12Mpx. I could bring the D3X and D810.
    You convinced me it’s a good camera for what I do.

    • @rileyphotos

      Thank you for those lovely comments Didier. I think the D810 and D3s pair brilliantly, I use that combination often on jobs, the D3s giving me beautiful colour management, and the D810 giving me fantastic higher ISO, particularly with a little flash added, a great combination for awards ceremonies when you want to keep detail in the big screen behind the recipients. The D810 also has those BIG files, so if you are working with a creative director for an ad agency, you can supply the extra large image- you are right about the value of the D810 compared to the D850, much better value in my book. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it 👏📷😊

    Hello, In these days I consider to buy a Nikon D3s or a Nikon 800e in used condition. Because I am a beginner in the digital photography and I more prefer the camera with the 36MB RAW output. The reason is that must see in which direction I go and in the next years when I love the photography I want to buy a used Nikon Z6. But the Nikon D810 is a very good camera for landscape and areas where you have much much details in your photos.
    Thanks for the comparison of this two cameras.

    Hi Riley, just found your video on the D810. I've been using a Bridge camera for a number of years learning how to be a better photographer. And yes I have the camera on Manual, all the time, I just don't want the technology to do what I should be doing; and it's always been that way, and it's my way. I'm now retired and I now have the time and opportunity to really explore this beautiful country with a camera, before it is lost forever. I decided almost six months ago that I needed a camera with more resolution and more dynamic range; but without breaking the Bank; the bells and whistles didn't really concern me. It has been a journey through a maze trying to find a camera that would be 'just right'. I thought "how difficult could this be?", but it has been. There seems to be a lot of commercial pressure to buy the latest technology and for a while my head was turned. Good gear I suppose, but what would I do with it that I'm not already doing now? It didn't make sense, so I turned the corner and went in a different direction, of my own choosing. I discovered the D850; it's price tag blew my socks off, but I Felt I was going in the right direction. I discovered the D810 and it looked promising. I came on to RUclips, typed in 'Nikon D810' and voila!

      @rileyphotos  Год назад

      Paul, I’m glad you found my channel, welcome Sir, and thank you for sharing your journey of discovery to unearth a camera capable of doing justice to this fair isle. Your though process resonates with me, you are right, the new cameras are worthy tools indeed, packed with technology, but will it make a difference to landscape photography, I think not. Some of the older DSLR’s are unbelievably good value now. The D810 with is large file size. The D3s with probably the best colour rendition of any camera I’ve owned (and I’ve owned a few in a 40 year career). And weather proofing that will shrug of the worst a British Winter can throw at it. I hope you find the camera that does the job for you Paul, if you have any questions, please ask, and if I know the answer I’ll be glad to help.😊

    I have the opportunity to either get a low shutter count (40,000) Nikon D800e, or a more used (129,000 shutter count) nikon d810 for approximately the same price (D800e is slightly cheaper). Which one would you recommend?

    • @rileyphotos
      @rileyphotos  Год назад

      Ohhhhh that is a tough one. The D810 is a slightly better camera. Two years younger, better ISO, faster processor, better screen. But the 800e has a low shutter count. From memory I think the shutters were guaranteed by Nikon for 60,000 actuations, (I’d advise you check that, I may be wrong) so the 800e is well within that. External condition should help make up your mind, look for the one that seems to have had the easier life. Whichever you go for, they are both great cameras. Good luck 🤞

    Will you suggest to get this one in 2021 and use for a couple of years for event and action photography

    • @rileyphotos
      @rileyphotos  3 года назад +1

      It’s a great events camera, the low light and ability to crop in so much make events so much easier. The sensor will be an asset for action but the continuous shooting won’t keep up with a D6! Fast enough for most though, I use one all the time for events. Thank you for watching 👏📷😊

      @@rileyphotos I got a offer to buy a d850. But the shutter count is 1.25L already. But the camera is in good condition. Should I go for it or get the d810

    • @rileyphotos
      @rileyphotos  3 года назад +1

      Hi, the D850 is a great camera, and has an even bigger sensor than the D810, so even more cropping in for sport and events. It doesn’t have a pop up flash though, so a speedlight is a must, and it doesn’t use CF cards, it uses QXD cards, which are super fast but more expensive, and you will need to buy a QXD reader too if you don’t want to keep plugging the camera in to your computer. There’s an SD option in both though. The screen res in the D850 is better and it focusses and shoots faster, so better for action. I’m not sure how many exposures the shutter count you mentioned is. If it’s 1,200 then it’s like new, if it’s 12,000, then I’d still be happy, it’s guaranteed for 60,000 and Nikon expects it to do about 200,000, but if it’s 120,000 then it’s past it’s guarantee and well into mid life, price should be slightly cheaper to reflect that. Both of these are great cameras, I’m sure you’ll enjoy either of them 👍🏻📷

    Love this video - "It's so BIG & HEAVY Man!" I've always liked the idea of buying the old tried & tested 'Quality Stuff' used when the prices fall to low levels. The rebel in me rejects buying the latest shiny new stuff for MEGA-bucks. I bought a D3X 3 years back in Jan 2019 for £650 (150K actuations) and loved it from the very first moment. Falling used prices have enabled me subsequently to buy D3S, D810, & D4 bodies for small fractions of their original prices. My plan was to compare and then rationalise by selling a couple when I found what I liked best. The problem is I like them ALL and now can't decide which has to go. PS. I do portraits and casual people shooting. *Weird but true - the used prices D3X bodies do not appear to have fallen noticeably in the 3 years since I bought mine.

    What I don't get is, why does my d610 24 megapixel camera give met files around 25mb in size and a this one over 100mb? The resolution isn't even twice the amount. I am afraid disk space and cloud space will fill up so quickly with the d810 or d850.
    What is the best way to reduce disk space, is it resizing by lowering resolution or setting the jpg quality back to 95% instead of 100%? Any ideas?

    • @rileyphotos
      @rileyphotos  Месяц назад

      Vince, first thing is to make sure that your image size is set at Large and image quality is set at fine. Then make sure the aspect ratio is 4:3 so that you use the whole of the chip. After that, choose jpeg and the files will be at a maximum size in a manageable format.

Way smaller than the Z8 with pretty much all the function. And now the z6iii has been released watch them drop on the second hand market. Even a Z6 will do an unbelievable job at a fraction of the cost and weight of a Z8.
