  • After finishing the platform for our cabin, we built the first floor. Things went a lot faster than expected thanks to the help of our amazing neighbors. Watch us framing, and raising the first four walls.
    Everything you see in this video, we learned from the book The Very Efficient Carpenter by Larry Haun, which you can find here (affiliate links):

    Awesome video. Just came across your channel and was impressed on how you were putting it together so of course I went and watched all your videos. Cool series! You actually make it look easy. But I know you had to put allot of research into building a house. Thanks for sharing your house build and as a new subscriber I will be looking forward to your next video!

      Thanks so much Rick! You're spot on, even for us looking back it's funny how easy everything looks, yet remembering how much hard work it took to complete.

    Did you use plans, how did ya know what to order in lumber package

    • @CaribooAdventure
      @CaribooAdventure  10 месяцев назад

      Jelger drew the plans. He calculated the lumber with formulas (Larry Haun’s book was great for that!)

    Hallo ihr beiden
    Darf ich mal fragen wieviel Tage ihr benötigt habt bis ihr die Holzarbeiten bis einschließlich Dach fertig getellt habt ?
    Danke im voraus

      @CaribooAdventure  Год назад

      Hallo Rudolf,
      Vielen Dank für Ihre Frage. Ich glaube, wir brauchten ungefähr 4 Wochen vom Anfang bis das Dach darauf wahr. Aber das war nicht vollzeitig (kann man in den Videos sehen). Also vielleicht drei Wochen in Total.

      Thank you! And isn’t he the best! We used regular grade 2 or better construction lumber. (So here that’s pine/spruce/fir)

    Don't forget clear trees near you house, danger if trees to close. Afraid of wind only.

      Thank you, we had a professional arborist check before the construction, and he removed all the risky ones :)

    People make mistakes when building cabins. It should be prepared for rain by constructing the roof first after framing the walls. interior later

      Lol, that’s what we did, just not super fast. 😉

      They covered it at least so the wood didn’t swell and possibly warp throwing the whole house out of level until it was fully framed and dry set or wet out or whatever the proper term for water proofing a house is.

    Did an engineer size the headers for the windows?

    • @CaribooAdventure
      @CaribooAdventure  2 года назад

      No, the building code specifies what size is needed for what kind of spans. So I took those numbers, and went an extra step up.
