You gave me a perfect idea......When I start mine I'm going to make the second floor 6 ' tall. instead of the regular 8' tall. In the past when I did a second floor I didn't even think of making the second floor shorter. So thanks for doing it your way. Keep up the good work and please ... more videos.
Another cool video! Awesome how you put a tarp over the build site! That was a great idea. You definitely continue to amaze me with your carpentry skills! I like how its going. I was a little scared when you put up the end walls, I probably would of put outside braces to stop it from sliding off the 2nd floor. But it shows me how little I know because you had them installed easy! Keep up the cool videos! I am definitely learning a lot! As always thanks for taking the time to share! Rick From Virginia
Thank you for the kind words :). It was definitely tricky to raise those top walls without brackets, but we had no choice because the plywood was already and extended past the bottom of the wall (to cover the band joist). So we took it slow and it worked out :). Glad you liked the video!
I find it rather amusing how one will put on ear protection to use an electric nailer which is not loud at all, but will not wear them when they are using a hammer, which is probably 5 to 10 times louder. Good ole OSHA. It's not just you, builder, it's a lot of tubers doing this.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVING Your house!! I've binged on all your videos. Looking forward to see your progress and Congratulations on your land and home! Love how you're doing the 2nd floor. Great idea on shorter walls. How tall will be the pitch on the roof? How tall are your 2nd floor walls? How tall are your 1st floor walls? How long and wide is the house? Sq ft of the house? So sorry for so many questions (maybe I missed this info) but I'm planning to do mine in the woods also and would like to get some ideas. Yours seems the perfect size! Lol Once again, Loving your videos and looking forward for more! I just subscribed! Blessings for you both!
Thanks so much for the comment! - Roof pitch will be 6 in 12 - 2nd floor walls heights: 4 ft for the pony walls, 8 ft for the end walls (to the bottom of the ridge beam) so a tad bit higher than that - 1st floor walls: 8 ft (96-3/4”) - foot print of the cabin is 16 ft by 20 ft, so 320 sq ft surface, but 2 floors that size (minus the stair well). Good luck on your build, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
Hi there Jelgar, thanks for the great video. I am curious, with housewraps, they sell these nails with a plastic cap with the idea being that the plastic/rubber retainer will help avoid penetrations in the housewrap. Did you research this option and if so, what are your thoughts on it. I have seen people do both methods (i.e. staples and nails with plastic retainers) but am not sure how much difference on a practical level there is between the two. If possible, kindly provide your thoughts. HDH [: { ].
Hi HDH! Thank you for the kind words. 😊 When speaking with a contractor at the hardware store, he told us that it’s overkill/not necessary and a lot less convenient to use. But de home wrap manufacturers definitely require it for warranty purposes. So while we went for convenience (and also noticed contractors in the city don’t use them), maybe in the future we wijl do it differently.

Great idea covering the second floor pony walls with the tyvek before setting them up, brilliant!!!
Thank you! Saved us the sketchy job of balancing on a ladder to put it in place :)
You guys are so awesome and inspiring. Thank you.
Thanks for watching! We appreciate it!
Like it. You must bring the plywood down over the band board on the first floor. Vinny 🇺🇸
Thank you! Will do once we put the siding on, wasn’t a priority :)

Tall person will hate the shorter floor
@@bennym1956 Yes, I agree. I’m over 6’ tall and wouldn’t be able to stand up completely.
I can’t wait to see your second floor with an amazing view. SUBSCRIBED
Thank you!
Very nice!
Thank you!
Nice job for both for both of you!
Thank you!
Nice progress!
Thank you!
congrats from France 👌👌, I am going to finish my own wooden house in mountain, hope snow don't come soon😆
Thank you, and good luck with the construction :)

You’re right, a hammer can be louder. More protection would probably be better.
By any chance, would you mind sharing the prints for your build? 😅 I'll be building a 20x20 2 story home, and I like how you build yours
I wish I could send them, but they only exist on paper. 😬 we’re currently away too…
Jelger drew them by hand…
Great job, is there a reason you didn’t go full top floor?
We thought it would look weird because it’s so narrow. Way too tall for a small surface. In hindsight it might have been nice to have more storage. 😂
Your framing experience shows is this what you do for a living?
Thank you! It’s actually my first build ever. I had no experience with construction in any way :)
What dance move is your weird friend doing at 6:00?! 😝
Right :)!
Everything looks awesome good job 👍 did you put flashing on the windows.
Thank you! And yes we put lots of butyl flashing tape on the windows :)

Well done!
🇧🇷👏👏👏👏👏
Trees are nice, but I'm not sure I want to live under them because they cause mildew and stuff that breaks down the building envelope.
Never heard about that, guess time will tell :)
