I love this video for the magnificent undertaking of this build and also for an entirely different reason than most. As I'm watching this video, my very young nephew came over and asked what I was looking at. So I said, "some people building a cabin in the woods." He then asked, "how many trees do you have to cut down to build a cabin?" So I told him, what was so cool is the fact that these people re-used a lot of wood from an old farmhouse that they had from a long time ago. Curiosity, getting the best of his 7 year old mind, he asked me a very good question. "Uncle Tim, why don't we have an old farmhouse so we can build us a cabin?" For context, we are African American. Now, now, now, wait...just let me get it out first! lol. Long story short, I explained that there was a time when our grandpa's and grandma's were not allowed to own a farmhouse so If we wanted to build a cabin in the woods, we would certainly have to cut down lots of trees. (He's recently been learning in school about the Earth, animals, and how to live in harmony with nature). His response to me was this. "Uncle Tim, we should build a farmhouse anyway, so if anybody else wants to build a cabin they won't have to cut down a bunch of trees!" WOW.....you just gotta love the simple goodness of kids. So now he is as hell bent as a 7 year old can be about saving trees and building things. I think you guys and your video just might have started a fire on a career path for my young nephew, lol. No way you could have known or even thought this would come from the simple act of sharing your passion, and making this video. One never knows what, when, or how a path will be revealed. We watched the rest of your video, and we both would like to say thank you, especially me! Great job everyone and in every way. 8-)
I was just talking about using these types of RUclips videos about cabin building as a "class" for my son. The "Self Reliance" videos and others are good as well. These are skills most people will never have - not because they can't have them, but because these skills are no longer taught to our young people.
Beautiful💙❤accept Jesus Christ and you will be happy because God Jesus Christ is the only Holy and Savior🙏There is only one God and only Holy One the name is Jesus Christ mighty and Peace in the world Love and Save your soul💙
I love it we been building off grid as well we bought a sawmill and useing our land wood also the price of lumber is outrageous we have over 200 acres and a waterfall and fresh spring water + a creek kids can swim I loved ur videos thank you
Great build. I love the fact that it was built new to look old. Fantastic use of the old building material. You really should look into airbrushing or somehow making the mini split at 15:55 look old to fit the décor. 2 thumbs up. Im seriously thinking of spending a few days there with my wife.
The rusted metal roof, did yo seal it so it won't continue to go away?, I'm in Hawaii and we have to seal and coat all metal roofs and on this Island there are thousands of homes with metal roofs.
Absolutely beautiful. I loved the time lapse of the water slowly filling behind the dam, I've always loved seeing hydroelectric power generation and the infrastructure needed to do it.
I'm a big fan of Wild & Wonderful and Life Uncontained... so how is it that the RUclips algorithm shows me no end of random content but took nine months to decide I might like this?
In Michigan, we need to put our footings 36-42 inches deep because of the ground freezing. If we did surface footings like you did, we would have a home that would be bending and twisting during the winter because of frozen ground. You must not get much frozen ground in Missouri.
The bloke that built that for you is crazy skilled as a builder (that's what we call them in Australia). He has the skill and the ability to think out side the box. He is most definitely a master craftsman.
This was an absolute AMAZEING home you built!❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ so very stunning. I love the music you put in the background and I truly loved watching the step-by-step process. I think this is probably one of the very most admirable jobs of construction I've ever seen as well as best cabin ever and I'm not just saying that. My dad did construction call living.... from the time I was 10 I learned the process of laying concrete and helped him pouring concrete as well as laying block and then when he was 50 he decided to do only concrete and not build houses. He was a farmer as well as working for Maytag but he gave all of that up with the exception of farming and he was passionate about concrete but I learned a lot about building through him and IA went to college to be an architect, and due to the stereotype for women is architects only 10% of them are really loud still in the 21st-century from when I started in 1972 to advance and have their own office and not work under another male architect, I decided to become an interior designer. That all being said I have an appreciation for not just the skill that you have in building this fabulous two-story cabin but you're standing the plumbing the wiring everything you needed to make this such an amazing cabin especially up in the woods. I am just blown away. The finishing product is just beautiful inside and I want to live there❣️❣️😊 I went to the website where the music came from and it doesn't say the specific song you played it just takes you to sound stripe. Any chance you can tell me which song you picked out because I LOVE the music played in the background . You guys are to be highly respected for the job you did & the home you built.!! Thank you for sharing
@@stangoodman4021 I’m in California so no frost actually, to be honest we probably overkill our patios but my boss wants zero issues from tree roots in the future. Old timers used to stack rocks on the ground for a foundation, so maybe everything we do is overkill now

Would you consider coming building me one in 16 minutes and 35 seconds. You guys are awesome. Its beautiful, when you're home you will enjoy it. Now its time for " ON THE ROAD AGAIN". LOL love you guys.
As I watched I had one "criticism", then that beautiful waterwheel was rolled out and so I paused with my comment. As much as I love everything you did and the way you did it, I think it could/can be improved with a bit more contrast (some light, some darker, perhaps painted wood or other material) that really sets off the wood and other reclaimed old and honest material. The affect can be greater. That said, I'm ready to move into your beautiful rustic cabin with pond, etc Cheers from Vancouver, BC, Canada
I think you guys done a great job on the cabin from start to finish, just knowing when everyone loses there electric you will still have power. That's a great shtf build and hopefully I will have one just like it soon. God bless you guys and your family.🙏
I understand that it’s just a cabin so my comment isn’t directed at you but for any future builders watching this. You should tape the seams in your Zip sheathing and should always flash the windows with a peel and stick membrane.
I moved to the Missouri Ozarks 43 years ago and while I didn't build my house, I rebuilt it. It had a practically flat roof that leaked like a sieve, had NO insulation, windows leaked ( if the wind was blowing in the winter, it would snow inside), had cold running water in the kitchen (tho the well went dry the second year), an outhouse, the subfloor was inadequate---I could go on but you get the picture. I wish I had had a video camera then to record the transformation over the years. I had to do everything very slowly, as I got enough money to do the work. I did the majority of it myself, teaching myself skills that I had no experience with. Some months I would buy 4 or 5 boards because that was all I could afford. I did it all with a hand saw because I couldn't afford a chop saw or circular saw or any other time saving tool. No nail gun either. It was a lot of work and I enjoyed most of it. I now have it pretty much how I want it and I am getting too old to take care of it (79). But I still wish I could have made a video after watching videos on RUclips about people building their dream houses.
I know it's all the rage right now but I really dislike the rusted tin roofing . For me I could skip that. Very nice happy for you all. Enjoy your cabin in the woods .
I was wondering about the frost line also. But if some one can build a cabin like that, i'm sure they took care of the frost line stuff into the build. That was a super job. Well done people. The water works ,was also pretty good.

I was thinking the same thing. Even here in Texas with a very slight frost depth we pour 3 foot deep on the footings!
IN Australia they have to be 3 feet 6 inches deep.

We did dig down a about 12” even though it might now look like it on video. Not much frozen ground in southern MO. Average temp in winter is 45.
Good to know Jerry! We’re are in the Upper Peninsula and will be building a new cabin come spring.

Isn’t the green Zip sheeting supposed to be taped at the seams? Same with the window flanges.?

Would NoT recommend using soft wood red cedar for any type of horizontal support. Mayb vertical post but definitely NoT horizontal!
If your spring is cold enough you should stock it with some trout. Might be a cool lil detail.
Great video but next time don’t forget the zip tape. Without it you’ll have air inflation greater than plain OSB and house wrap.
The guy in Carhartt overalls is a stud,!!
Wow, that was awesome watching the damn dam construction!
Good job, you're lucky to find used material without pests in it. Here in Oregon we would have carpenter ants and powderpost beetles in a old barn.
