It's certainly doable to mix that much concrete yourself. I did 3 yards for piers in a couple of days. Had navyjack delivered, several bags of portland cement and a cement mixer. You don't need running water, just fill some totes/buckets from rain water or a lake/creek.
This might sound like a lot of money to you but $38.50 per sq ft is amazingly low compared to some places. (That doesn't include land purchase of course) Thank you for the information.
Thank you! It certainly helps to not have to pay for labour 😉😂. And yes, land purchase, pulling the electric wires to the cabin and in the future drilling a well are large expenses that aren’t included yet.
We are very close to starting a 16x24 . Purchased most of the materials just before the New Year. It will be a similar build process. Footings and piers with beams. I went 2x4 on the walls as it's only 1 level . And we will add exterior insulation for added R rating. One has to consumer shop forsure. I found some stores where better for certain items. HomeDepot is one. They had the best price for sliding windows. We will be mixing our own cement . It's $300m CAD here plus a pump truck cost of $900+ .
Thank you for the very detailed breakdown of your costs so far. I am really interested in your design plans with your 20x16 footprint. I think it maximizes the space available efficiently. Are you able to show us a floor plan or a link to it if you are using a cabin design from a web site please? Maybe you guys drew the floor plan yourselves and I missed that if it was explained earlier?
Thank you!! Jelger created the plans himself, so we can’t share a site. We’re going to upload them on a website at some point, but it’ll take us some time! 😉 (probably would have to scan them in etc) I’ll make sure to share when we do!
@@CaribooAdventure I followed your home build from day one. You really did and continue doing an exceptional job. Stay the course. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished interior.
@@kevincerce5056 thank you so much! We’re a building a bit slower right now because of work, but are hopeful to be mostly finished by the end of the year! 😊

this is not wilderness it is private property. it is illegal to build any structure on crown land in Canada. the cost of building a cabin begins with the price of the land.
You’re right! I call it that (because it’s kind of wild, lol), but I can see how that might be confusing. I updated the description to be sure, because we definitely don’t want to give the wrong idea. 😂
Thanks guys!, love the build and great pricing explanation
Our pleasure!

Doable yes, but we’re not mad we opted for the convenience/certainty here.
For the future if we’re building a shed or so we would. 😊
That certainly beats the price of homes now, I’d say you’ve done well for yourselves!
Thank you! We’ll probably double that by the time we’re finished, but certainly can’t buy a house for that. 😃
Thanks for this video. Very useful!
You’re very welcome! :)
That was a lot less than I was expecting, especially with the hike in lumber prices! Thanks
You’re very welcome! Definitely not done spending, haha, we think all the finishes will probably add up to the same (or more).
Yes it wasn’t cheap for us! Thankfully I was able to find a lot of used material & donated material 👍🏼
That sounds so good. It all ads up, huh. We find that even from month to month little items go up in price too. :(
@@CaribooAdventure For sure! Definitely not cheap these days. I’m hoping to purchase a portable sawmill to cut my own lumber 🪵
You did good on the windows. The cost for the metal roof seems a bit high considering you only have about 400 sq ft.
We heard the price for the roofing material went up even more after we purchased it. Hopefully it’s better again this year.
Howdy Neighbor! Funny enough, I have come across your channel before as I was already subbed! :)
Oh, nice!! Small world sometimes, hehe. 😊

That's about $14,514.73 United States Dollars. Not to bad
We think so too. Although we’re happy to see some better lumber rates now. 😊
